Health / Re: Nutritional Benefits Of Red Palm Oil by pharmow: 8:15pm On Jan 04, 2014
Adeniyi A.:
palm oil is palm oil, which one is red palm oil, white palm oil dey ni?

There is difference between Red palm oil and white palm oil. White palm oil is know as Palmolein which is an industrial processed red palm oil. Palmolein is the vegetable oil of choice in food manufacturing industry. The reason for use of Palmolein preference could be due to the color as palm oil could possibly influence the color of the final product. Having clarified that there is difference between white palm oil and red palm oil, I believe the red palm is highly nutritious has confirmed by this report. The problem is that we haven't unfortunately done any justice to researching our indigenous foods and determining their nutritional values ourselves

Anvaller:

If I were to be in Nigeria and part of a committee to debate this and determine a way forward for Nigeria on this particular topic. I can imagine how very frustrated one can become if u have to debate ppl like destino. Are u just taking a stand to win an argument or u honestly want to see reason? The answer to ur question is so simple, I would advice anyone to go to uni in Naija if they can but the point that is being made here is, that is not how it is supposed to be because that is not how it is in the developed countries.

It is obvious that some ppl like it to remain this way so they can say "well I am a uni grad, I am better than a poly grad" The reason why we are backward is obvious. We don't reason objectively, craps like sentiment, egocentrism, discrimination etc control our sense of judgment and in that case there is no way forward.

You have said it all my brother. Nigerians are egocentric and have low self esteem. As a result, they always have a way of bringing other people down to show superiority. 1 thing I always thank God for is for making me leave that country and see things from other part of the world. Don't be surprise to see HND graduate undermining NCE graduate if a similar argument ensue about NCE being equivalent to HND. It is in us Nigerians to wash others down in order to feel important. I was baffled to see the number of people without post-secondary qualification that are living a good life and enjoying what they are doing here. But in Nigeria if U don't have BSc or Masters U are "doomed" which explain the reason why the unemployment rate in Nigeria will never go down; because not everyone can be managers. Like this dude now, he's on top of his world. Though he may not have a job, but so far he's a university graduate and feels superior to ND or HND holder he's alright.

Education / Re: Hnd Is Equivalent To A Bsc by pharmow: 7:28pm On Dec 30, 2013
All what I see here is a typical Nigerian ego flexing where one feels he is superior to others. Is only in Nigeria that you will see where people of a particular tribe claim superiority over another tribe. The same applies to religion and every other things they can use to show superiority. I believe this is as a result of low self esteem. Talking about the issue at hand, though Bsc is not the same as HND just as NCE is not the same with HND. Each of these qualifications has a purpose they serve and it's a pity that the government of yester years and now aren't channeled these purposes into building a great nation Nigeria should have become. However, by looking at the number of credits passed to get HND program, the OP is not wrong to have said HND is equivalent to BSc in number of credit earned.

Another valid thing to point out here is that you having Bsc doesn't make you better than someone with HND. Nigerians in North America here can attestify to this fact that someone having MBA for example cannot demean another with Diploma because without those people with technical qualifications, you cannot carry out your duties in an organization; and that is the way a normal system works.

Education is very important, and I pray our government pay attention to this important component of life. Nigerian educational system is in Abysmal state, U will know what I mean if U study in western world. And without education, I'm sorry Nigeria can not go forward.

Hypocrisy, Ignorance, Stupidity and Bad-mouthing are some of the things I see among Nairalanders. How many of these critics even understand the concept of "Marriage"?. Someone put the pix of his new born baby out, congratulate the couple first and wish the baby well. Whether born out of wedlock or not is none of your business.
One Idiiiot even have the audacity to call the baby a bastard. I don't like cursing on this forum, but you must be stupid and insane to make such vulgar comment about the innocent baby. Do you know the number of people born out of wedlock that became great people in life?

Before I say anything, who knows the fate of the woman? Because from the conversation they were having, they told her to call her father and promise to continue torturing her until she says what they want. Also, the similar fate seems to await the other lady in the Video (Nike) because the victim claimed she only stole pepper while the other lady was the one that stole the cloth they were torturing her for. In essence, we are looking at sexual violation and barbaric torturing of two women by these animals.

I will advise we get the face shot of some of these animals and try to trace the uploader of this video on youtube to these animals if possible. Something must be done about this. Enough is enough, It is time we said NO to Jungle justice in Nigeria. We are in the 21st century for God sake.

Literature / Re: Wole Soyinka: Things You Didn’t Know About Him by pharmow: 9:01pm On Nov 26, 2013
Though his father was an Anglican minister, Wole was an atheist

I will never judge a man based on his religious Ideology. He has his reason for being an Atheist and I respect him for that. Besides, those of you criticizing him for being an Atheist, how many of you, your pastors or Imams ever stood up for the poor people cause to the extent of putting their life at risk.

He’s got some pretty influential family members

I must say this is one of the most influential family to ever come out of Nigeria if not Africa in the modern time.

He helped found the first confraternity in Nigeria

Shame on the Ayes, Eyes, Buccas etc. that have bastardized the reason why Confraternity was founded in Nigeria and killing themselves like chicken. Up till date there are confraternities in American universities that are for social and political causes

He’s been arrested multiple times

Knowing that this man was vocal against Military government where Human right was not in existence and one could be dealt with without trials makes me respect him a lot. Is political activism was more pronounced than some bigots that claimed they fought for democracy

Despite imprisonment, Soyinka was wildly productive, writing and producing several plays

A lot of great people have written extraordinary literature work while in prison. One thing I know is that no matter how enemies tried to confine great minds, it will always blossom wherever it is. This attestify to this man greatness

Wole went into voluntary exile amid concerns over the political situation in Nigeria

At times, it is important to leave the warfront in order to get recharged and have a wider and holistic views of situations.

He has been married three times and divorced twice

This is to show that it takes Grace of God to deal with women in marital relationships. Even an intelligent brain couldn't avoid having issues in his marriages grin

He has never been afraid to criticize other nations or his own

This is what I respect him and his cousin Fela Anikulapo Kuti (Abami Eda) grin Respect! for. They never fear bearing their minds on socio-political, historical and economical issues both at home and abroad. U will never see them engage in tribalism or racism talks because intelligent minds will never involve in such. They support their opinions with reasonable facts. I remember one Fela live performance in Glastonbury where e dey yab oyinbo in their face grin. That man and confidence sha grin grin grin

In Nigeria, he is considered a political activist first and a playwright second

I believe his name is more synonymous with literature because of his achievement as the first and only winner of prestigious Noble laureate in literature from Nigeria.

He has been named Commander of the Federal Republic of Nigeria

I know that handful of the National awards are given to people that didn't deserve them but this one is an exception as this award befits the holder.

Nna my brother, the story no make any sense at all..
oasislomo:

I think you, @chi22 and few others are the only people reasoning here, the lady mite be demanding for sex and threathning the mumu boy with a sissors aswell lipsrsealed

For those justifying what could have transpired between the deceased woman and the accused. I also like giving benefit of doubt to an accused and looking at a case like this from different angle. Because no matter what, an authority of a country will never give an account which support a foreigner that testified to murdering a citizen of their country irrespective of what transpired between them. However, no matter how many angles you look at this case from, it is a pity that this guy has both hands deep in total mess.
Firstly, Let's assume that the story from the police is genuine. There is no further story, the dude will be convicted of first degree murder and will face appropriate punishment.
Secondly, Let's assume the story from the police is false. There are two possible scenarios. The first one is that the woman had an interior motive for taking the boy to her house which could be for sex or for other reasons known to her. While at her house the deceased threatened him with scissor in order for him to agree to her demand. If this is the case, the guy doesn't have a solid case because it would be believed that he is stronger than the woman and can easily overpower her, take the weapon from her, walk away and inform the police of the sexual harrassment. Also, a woman that wanted to have sex with you is not likely to wanna kill you. Hence, no argument for self defence here. The second scenario is that the woman basically single out this guy because he's homeless and hence nuisance to the community. She took him to her house in order to involve him in racial slur and racial killing. If this is the case, then the same argument for the first scenario applies. He's stronger, could have overpowered her, take the weapon from her and inform the police immediately for insecurity of his life. However, let's imagine the unimaginable scenario that this woman is one heck of strong 60 year old muscle that overpowered an 18 year old hard knock homeless guy and was on the point of killing him with her scissor. The guy's counsel can argue self defence of his life. But from the evidences and the aftermath of the happenings, self defence is useless because (1) the woman's phone was used to trace the guy which means that he robbed her before or after her death (murder intention). (2) he did not suffer from body injury. Hence the woman did not attack him and he killed her for his selfish interest (3) He strangled the woman with scarf and covered her face with plastic bag hence there was intention for murder. Otherwise he would have left the woman when she had been weakened by the enstranglement before she died (4) he did not report the case to police, which implies that he knew what he did and believed he's not gonna be caught.

From the arguments presented above, it is very likely that the police account is genuine or the first scenario of the woman trying to have sex with him. In either case I'm certain that this dude will be convicted of first degree murder and face maximum punishment ie. life imprisonment.
Another argument his counsel can present to avoid the maximum punishment is that he's mentally ill as at the time of incident. But he doesn't have a dime, so how can he get a good lawyer? and Italians will never accept a foreigner killing their citizen to go scot-free. His story is a sorry one that has just an outcome. Thank God for him that Capital punishment has been abolished in EU. Else, he would have faced firing squad of mean looking Italian soldiers grin

infiniteloop: Interesting list. I won't be shocked though if it happens that some people yet unknown earn more than these people.

In the scale of things, N38m/annum is not lot of money. That's less than N4m/month. I really think there are people who earn more than that, that are not in this list.

The COO in my former company, an ISP does. Not even a CEO. A good job in an oil company and you will have a starter salary of more than N10m/annum, matter of fact. Let alone a job as a senior mgr. My Engineering friends will agree to this.

Great list all the same. smiley

What U said is true. I knew of someone that earns about #30m per annum in one of the oil exploiting companies and he is not even near the position of senior manager talkless of executive director
