Politics › Re: Presidential Debate on NN24 by Pharoh: 12:18am On Mar 19, 2011
Kobojunkie:
So, a legitimate media house is still not right for a presidential debate? WHY?
They are right for a presidential debate but not the major debate judging from peoples post here that the opposition should boycott the debate organized by BON.  BON should have been the first to host a debate and then there can be other debates by private stations. I will be in support of NN24 if BON and the other national station srefused to host one or they have been ill prepared to host one. I was against debates because i don't want to see personal attacks against PDP or the president but just forward suggested solutions to our problems simple. The governorship debates was more of an attack than a debate but i am impressed by this debate. I have been rooting for BON because leaving it in the hands of a private station might have affected the quality but i give a slightly passmark to NN24.
Politics › Re: Presidential Debate on NN24 by Pharoh: 12:06am On Mar 19, 2011
Kobojunkie:
NN24 is a LEGITIMATE entity -- it is licensed under the NBC. Or what else does a media house need to be legitimate?
They are legitimate to operate as a media house and there is absolutely no doubt about that but they are not the right candidate to conduct the presidential debate that should have been the number one yardstick in Nigeria. BON or NBC should be the one doing that and not a private station that just springed up yesterday so that's my point.

kokoA:
when will they hold First Lady's debate? I am sure madam patience will show up.
First lady is not an electable post and has nothing to do with governing Nigeria so it is not needed.

Newscaster:
They cant even speak English - I wonder why their supporters speak so much ill against Dame Jonathan.
They were in a hurry to castigate goodluck and his wife but with this debate i think they have been humbled a little bit judging from their comments. I have always said it that debate will not win any fucking election in Nigeria and the internet minority is just blowing hot air like their votes even counts.
Politics › Re: Presidential Debate on NN24 by Pharoh: 11:53pm On Mar 18, 2011
Sky Blue:
So in a nutshell he prioritised political survival over defending his candidacy and vision for the nation under arguably more in-depth scrutiny?
He is going to do that under the legitimate entity that should have conducted this debate which is BON in conjunction with other local stations. It is coming up on the 29th of this month and this nn24 is a new private station that does not have any form of national coverage.
Politics › Reason Why Jonathan Did Not Attend The Presidential Debate by Pharoh(op): 11:50pm On Mar 18, 2011
NIGERIANS CANT BE FOOLED BY ATTEMPT TO USURP THE RIGHT OF BROADCATING ORGANISATION OF NIGERIA[BON]OVER PRESIDENTIAL DEBATE.

I don't know what is wrong with Nigerians, all this noise about presidential debate and Jonathan is simply opposition, antics to divert our reasoning from the reality.
Ever since debate is is being organized in Nigeria,it the right of BON in conjuction with local broadcasting stations.
If we take United kingdom into consideration, its the BBC that host the presidential debate while other broadcasting organisation hook up to broadcast the debate.
Also,in the United State of America it is the ABC with WMUR-TV that host the presidential debate with other broadcasting station joining the broadcast.

Why will that of Nigeria suddenly change?
How come we have allowed ourselves to be deceived by these mischievous politicians trying to re-write history to suit their selfish interest.
When did NN24 come to the airwaves of this nation to be qualified to host a presidential debate?
If Jonathan and Sambo had attended,it would have been a let down on the nation.
I salute their courage despite all the name calling by these disgruntled element to conscript them to attending, they hold on,thereby upholding the national image.
We shall stand behind BON and its affiliate stations in conjuction with known TV stations such as Channels TV,AIT and a host of others to host a credible presidential debate not a phony one.
ENOUGH IS ENOUGH OF THIS DECEIT.
GOD BLESS NIGERIA
.
I just got this from a comment posted on facebook, can we analyze the excuse given by this Nigerian?. In my opinion i very much think that they are genuine and legitimate with all other added factors.

So I should ban all the tribalists? And all troublemakers? And all unserious people?
You have to make very drastic and unpopular changes, trust me nairaland was on course to be the best internet portal in africa. I read your interview and your fear about facebook but trust me facebook has been beaten by so many local champions. There is no way facebook will serve the Nigerian or African members better than you because you know the market more than them. They can only beat you on the international stage but not in the local stage if you put your house in order.

What you have to do is to call a conference of people who are willing to fix this site where there will be a discussion about the whole process. To fix this issue quickly, i think each section should have about ten moderators for a start and it gradually reduces as the site is fixed. I doubt if you have a management team overseeing this site except a collection of super moderators. I have not seen any direction or changes, new sections or ideas, just people come every day to do the same stupid things.

There will be continued progress and development in Nigeria only if the opposition do not cause any trouble.

Blazing99:
I agree with Bakare but he should have let this lie low. CPC vs ACN conflict is not what we need now. We need unity against PDP.
Fake unity only for it to blow in our faces after they succeed in defeating the so called evil PDP?. Even the Yoruba people say, you kill the evil immediately you discover it and never postpone it. It is either the opposition opts out for a total progressive movement or we have the same thing in another skin.
European Football (EPL, UEFA, La Liga) › Re: FC Barcelona Fan Thread: "Més Que Un Club" by Pharoh: 3:51pm On Mar 17, 2011
Nice gesture from both teams and i think UEFA refused in other to concentrate on the tragedy in Japan because they had some minutes silence and a banner displayed on the field before the kickoff. It was more of not doing two things at the same time and taking the most important one. It is good that both teams still did what they have to do after the match and we all hope everything goes well with abidal.

PDP said they will rule for 100 years and thats for the presidency, you cannot upstage the biggest party just like that in africa. grin

We all knew this was bound to happen at some point but not this quick, anyway let the fight continue so the bad eggs we will be exposed. cool

Abbycrown:
What should be the first on the priority list of the state government? Shouldn't it be the health of the masses? The nurses & midwives might have gone too far by going on strike because of the patients that would require their attention, but the state government should review the case and take immediate and proper action. Renegotiate with them or something or else, lives(patients') are at risk. cry
I would not be happy if any of my loved ones is to be affected by their actions but also i have to consider their own point of view. They have to be paid the agreed salaries and whatever agreements the state government has entered with them. Striking is the only way to pass your message across and sorry negotiation will never work in this case so let everyone do their bit to resolve this issue.

The best for everyone is for this country to separate to the different nations that actually make up the present entity called Nigeria. There is no basis for our unity and there can never be one, it is either we separate peacefully or do it the hard way and still separate through the negotiation table.

Politics › Re: A question for Aisha2 And Jarus. Is Nairaland an anti-Jonathan forum? by Pharoh: 2:05am On Mar 16, 2011
There has been so many unfortunate changes in nairaland because of this election and our hatred for each other. To be honest this forum has lost it and i don't think it would ever be fixed to be the forum that we all desired. The election will be one of the defining moment if we are still going to be together or as separate entities. This forum in my opinion has contributed more harm than good to us as a nation but i hope there will be changes in the future.

Back to topic

I really don't care if the forum was pro or anti because that's not the point to me, i am more concerned about the organization and how things are left to just go down the way it has gone. The thread about the goodluck biscuits should not have even lasted one page because i believe it should have been locked by now. It is only in low grade forums you see people abusing the president and the english of the first lady. What is the meaning of all these insults and fighting going on here?. What is the purpose of these forum? to trade insults and fight each other?, we do not even behave to each other as if we are citizens of the same country.

In essence there won't be debates the world over then. A man that has something reasonable to say looks for platforms to do this. Rejecting invitations in the first place just shows how unprepared he is. I wonder if the guy can even deliver an impromptu speech.
Seems you are a better candidate than the president but why didn't you go and contest for the position so that you can debate, win the election and fix the damn country?. It is easier to sit on nairaland and criticize the president but the truth is let everyone support whomever they want to without badmouthing the other parties.

WHERE WAS ANENIH,OBJ,IBB WHEN WE FOUGHT FOR HIM AGAINST TURAI

NOW HE IS BUSY ROMANCING THEM, HE DOESNT EVEN WANT TO DEBATE
Good luck will win the election fiar and squarely without any rigging so throw that kind of thoughts to the gutters please, you guys are looking for excuse to cause mahyem when he eventually wins. The apeal or supreme court is there for you to contest the results of an election if you think that it has been rigged okay. What happened in egypt is about under performing dictators and not about election rigging or votes.

Guy trust me he his romancing those who put him there where he belongs to and they are the ones that helped him to fight turai. What you guys did was not significant trust me so spare us the we fought for him against turai, the real fighting was done underground by those people you are quick to condemn. Did you forgot that OBJ was one of the few Nigerians that flew to saudi arabia to see yar adua and said that he is finished?.

I'm sorry but things like these make me believe they were trying to avoid the debate. Things like these furthermore make me distrust my president. What can a patriotic 9ja gal do but speak out when she senses her esteemed president being evasive.
Hmm you have valid points but i just want to correct something for you, actually the president was invited to about five or six debates. It was not just one debate as you made it to look, i think they went into negotiation with the debate organized by channels television. The other excuses were for the other debates so all the excuses given were not just for one debate which would have made them to be inconsistent. To me everything is strategy and you just don't jump to impulse about any debate, you have to think well about your actions and obtain the best conditions that suits your interest. Debates is not going to win election in Nigeria but it will give you some significant amount of support and votes.

In all honesty from the context of the Nigerian situation, a president does not need to participate in a debate before he can pass out his message. Campaigning is the best avenue to do that and party meetings or whatever means because we are not on par with other countries like in the western world. He was never afraid to debate but in Nigeria you can hardly find a true objective entity hence you just don't jump into any debate. You try to seek for the best condition that will favor your goals and target. This is what PDP has done and from the points of politics, they are very valid and comes from good strategic thinking. But just like you the past is gone and they are ready for debates, so let us all come together and make this work.

P.S You have been very objective, i really like that which you also can see that it is very different from the obvious bias we are seeing in this thread.

BON?? Fairness and impartiality? really?
A govt owned organisation that supplied 'expo' to the govt is fair?
Yes BON equals fairness because it is a collection of all the media houses in Nigeria and there will be no basis for bias towards any candidate. Please can you provide evidence that BON supplied any expo to the president?, no candidate is special and they will all get the same treatment from the organizers.
