Politics › Re: Youth Alliance Group Supports Fuel Subsidy Removal by PHIPEX(m): 9:12pm On Jan 03, 2012
Can someone remind me all the economic issues in Nigeria that protests and strikes ever solved, I taught NLC should hv learnt from ASUU. I still don't know why so many poeple are protesting on Nairaland instead of the streets. Pls go and protest but don't forget to post ur pictures here so we can chart. How long will Naija enjoy free food in this free town? Pls lets learn from Greece!

Obinoscopy:
But PHIPEX if corruption is removed there would be no need for subsidy removal because lots of money would be saved!
Your are right at the above but removing corruption is not something that can be giving a deadline and if the current administration thinks that one of the ways to remove it is by removing subsidy, why can we give them the benefit of doubt? Truely there is a tendency to embezzle more bt there is also a possibility that the money which we could hv used to subsidise our consumption will be used for a more fruitful end.

As at when GSM was introduced in naija, we were paying one of the highest rate in the world why didn't we ask for subsidy in call rate so that the poor one among us can also make calls?

Obinoscopy:
gregg and PHIPEX, do you think with the high level of coruption that the government can use the money saved from the subsidy removal in bettering the life of the common Nigerian?

Meanwhile I even laugh when the govt says it it will use the money saved because what the budget is suggesting is that there is no money saved from fuel subsidy removal, it only suggests that we won't go begging again.

Our government have no agenda for us, if they do they should tell us in black and white, the amount that will be saved from the subsidy removal and then they should draw a special semi-budget for that money on what it should be used for. They need to transparent, accountable and plain. They should not be equivocal in their statements (as they are doing right now!)
Ofcourse, corruption is a serious issue but that should not enough reason for Nigeria to borrow to finance fuel subsidy, if we must borrow lets borrow for capital consumption. we cry of corruption yet are not willing to pay this price of closing one of the avenues of looting our collecting treasure in the name of giving us free launch.
Politics › Re: Video-update: Policemen Protest In Lagos Over Subsidy Removal by PHIPEX(m): 5:11pm On Jan 03, 2012
They are not protesting cos they hv ur interest at heart, its just cos they will hv to collect egunje from about 10 danfo drivers before they can buy a litre of fuel which is more stressful. if there should be a protest in naija i think it should be against naija police high handedness.
Politics › Re: The Fuel Subsidy Removal Is Not A Bad Thing! by PHIPEX(m): 4:53pm On Jan 03, 2012
Would we hv prefered if the govt came out to say that since the price of fuel has been constant for the first time in about 2 decades it therefore intends to increase it to 100 naira a litre since the price is no more sustainable even though the subsidy remains? Let this subsidy go and lets forget about the usual increases in fuel prices ones and forall. Remember that OBJ increased fuel price 5 times in 8 yrs yet Nigerians did not kill him some people even asked for a 3rd term for him. I believe in this Okonjo-Sanusi policy.

May God bless the poster, finally I'v been relieved cos mine has gotten to a point where I use to ask myself if my future wife will not complain of being bored around me. I can afford to think and plan for what I will do in the next 5 yrs bt will hardly communicate wt people around me, even do it has made me a little more successful in relative terms bt i know that some people around me don't like that aspect of me.

If they are not afraid of dieing y not confront the soldiers that are at their door step rather they will go and blow up a church in a rural community that has done nothing.

The subsidy on diesel was removed long ego and there was little protest from civil right groups, why are they waiting for the removal of subsidy on fuel before they will protest or are producers that use diesel not Nigerians? Am happy that atleast one loophole which currupt elements use to loot has been blocked, it will create a larger hole in my pocket but will make me think of better ways to urgment my sources of income; enterprenuership to the rescue.

So if Boko boys threaten to bomb churches on sunday we all should say good bye to our services in order to stay alive, isn't that the best way to for them to even win the war? Here we are complaining of GEJ not having balls but a simple threat has driven Christians to their houses. SHAME! How many times did MEND issue altimatum to the oil firms to vacate their region, was it stupidity that made them remain?
Politics › Re: Chaos looms - Buhari by PHIPEX(m): 11:35am On Dec 31, 2011
If he has turned to a Saintly adviser why not advise his terrorists called Boko Mallams to stop their activities, why will a man leave his house on fire and goes to separate his neigbours that are quarrelling? The entire North has turned BLOODY, Buhari remains one of the few voices that will bring back sanity to the region but he chooses to attack the govt in the name of advise in other to score cheap political goal. The only way his likes will win my support is to first call his "Foot Soldiers" to order if truely he loves Nigeria. Of what gain will his advise be to the nation if they are taken and the people who are supposed to enjoy its benefits are killed like Fulani cows? Its said that Charity begins at home, so lets advise Buhari to begin his godly advise from his home region first, perhaps if he can help GEJ take care of that area then I will blame GEJ if he fails to perform. tomorrow now it will be Atiku or IBB, nonsence.

Hypocrites that are afraid to die.
In some parts of Middle East & Asia, christians are being persecuted daily and here in Nigeria, a pastor is cancelling worship service in Lagos because of boko haram in the North.
O men of little faith.
If churches in Lagos have suddenly developed a cold feet to hold their services what then do they expect the Churches in the North to do? does this not show that we are more of bread and butter Christians? Why then do we blame the Disciples that left Jesus when He was arrested afterall according this our logic, Its better safe than be sorry?

This may be their strategy for the supposed new yr bombing so that when they strike no one will say its religious bt God pass dem. This their new strategy will be their greatest undoing.

Maybe it has several loopholes like our constitution that makes it easily taken advantage of, I suggest u guys should think about amending some of its passages to suit our civilised era.

With this level of criticism from our educated ones, those that promised to frustrate this administration will think they are really succeeding. At thesame time I simply hope the Caliphate understands the level of damage it's doing to the religion it thinks its fighting for, I wonder who will willingly convert to Islam in times like this.

Make i hear say she wan dey answer her papa name. The next question now will be; is it compulsory to pack to ur husband's house after wedding? Is it compulsory for the children to answer their father's name afterall both the man and the woman contributed equally in creating them? If u like ur papa well well why not remain unmarried in his house. By the way does ur mother answer her maiden name in ur father's house?

Borno and Yobe State are the gate way which the bombs from Libya are delivered into this country through Niger and Chad. I need a strategic warning to be issued to the governments of Chad and Niger republics. The era of Nigeria acting as a big brother is over. If we start a war with Chad or Niger it will serve as a great distraction. Enough is enough.

Am not in support of the excess life style of thesame people that are telling us to endure this "hardship" for a better tomorrow but I also don't think that the removal of this subsidy will lead to our death. Even while we had the subsidy, the price of this same article was increased for more 500% btw 1999 and 2007 yet we all survived. Ordinarily the best thing would hv been to put the refinaries in order first but that will be like asking the Obasanjo's administration to put NITEL in order before introducing GSM due to its higher cost. From the moment I started following petro-politics in Nigeria, repairing of refinaries has always been in the news yet no solution in sight how do we then think that the solution will come now with the likes of OBJ and others that feed fat on its inefficiencies still very much alive? As far as am concerned it may be in our best interest in the long run if this evil called subsidy is taken away once and forall cos even if its retained it will not stop them from increasing the pump price for more than 200% btw now and 2015. remember that the question noe is increasing it for about 100%.

Initially the complain was that Jonathan is afraid to act now its the complain of possible death of civilians but permit me to ask, are Boko haram members not civilians? Even if they are called millitants do they wear uniform. If ur a soldier how will u differentiate btw civilians and Boko harams. Its quite unfortunate that some innocent civilians will be killed but are those civilians truely ignorant of the activities of these terrorists around them? Why have they failed to report them to the appropriate quarters in order to avoid this sort of repercussions?

As far as am concerned, history will judge Obi as the best Governor anambra has gotten since its creation. Mind you, you don't expect him to transform awka to a VI cos development is evolutionary unless u want him to focus all his developmental effort in just one Senatorial zone like Ngige did. I expect more from him bt I know within me that he has not done badly expecially with respect to even development of all the Senatorial zones.

As for Uba, I would'v been happier if he was sacked completely without any need for a rerun. Kudos to the judiciary!

There is no difference. If we stand up to the bribe extorters, no matter the pain (except life and limb are at risk), they weill no longer be able to demand routine bribes.
What we really have is an ecosystem of bribery and corruption; from the police check points to the passport office; from lecturers to invigilators. It is everywhere and our society is rightly labelled corrupt; I have long since learnt that what is normal and routine in Nigeria is absolutely shocking in almost every other country (including neighbouring Benin Republic).
U said it all, the problem persists cos we are either too afraid to challenge the statusquo or too much in a hurry to get to our destinations.
