Some parts are non magnetic and also I've found that some parts fall into tight spots where the bigger magnetic head can't penetrate but the small claw head can get into.

I have assorted number of these things. They are very handy and cheap.

And for the real stuff, most times that 100 quid is just for the bare unit you still need to acquire charger and battery.
Almost made a decision to get one recently but have deferred for now

Im trying to get me an impact wrench lol cos I lost the tyre lock key for my RRS, so need the lock remover.

Thanks. Make it a double on the impact wrench. I need one too something above 400Nm. No time for bearing down on bolts anymore. But the cost na die!

Pic 1: The Jetta has an underbody panel that needs to be removed. It's about 8 screws. i curse the engineers at VW everytime I do an oil change when Have to remove it but it serves a purpose by keeping air in the engine bay. Do not leave this off.

Pic 2: I typically use a jack and stand but I used the ramp this time. Which do you use and why?

Pic 3: Always pre fill the oil filter when possible. This will help get oil pressure quickly doing the initial cold start.

Hi Egun, thanks a lot for this thread. Always delighted to see auto part pics.

I'm laid back with tracking in between oil changes...was using a print out of the service schedule from my manual. I just enter the mileage and maintenance done. Nowadays, for oil changes, I use my Trip B function for tracking. I change between 3k - 4k miles and use Dino oil. My car doesn't call for synthetic.

I always delight at adding new life in the form of parts. In fact it's relaxing for me working on cars. Maybe I should become a mechanic

Rebuilt my rear brakes yesterday; shoes, drum, all return springs, wheel cylinder(both had minor leaks), self-adjuster, retaining clips were all replaced.

Actually my attention was called to my rear breaks when I went in for my road worthiness test. The left side was said to be 60% less efficient than the right. Of course I failed the road worthiness test!

Should do a blog post once I'm done fixing the highlighted issues and get a pass.

Correction, this is actually £5 or roughly 3k per quart. A customer must have dropped it in the wrong section!

we are paying 28-35k for crappy batteries that will need to be replaced every 2yrs, why won't we pay 70k+ for batteries that will be replaced under warranty so long as the warranty is beyond 4 years

Since I learnt what to look out for when buying a battery, they last me 3 yrs approx. Seems good enough for me for the price

i think it i more a case of poverty mentality - a lot of nigerian businessmen hustlers are a afraid of selling quality items because for them, long lasting goods are reduced sales.

if i buy a bulb that lasts three years, that is money lost vs my buying bulb from you every 4 months.

I have learnt the lesson on this one; I only buy Belgium bulbs! I have the eye to tell the ones that still have A-grade filaments. All the Chinese bulbs are no good. They will die on you and when FRSC stops you you will almost swear that the bulb is still working!

My personal opinion... Not sure if batteries will be a good line to stock. I think Nigerians generally are not into premium batteries. Also consider the fact that batteries are perishable, having them sit on the shelf for long will increase your inventory costs and possibly lead to more warranty replacements.
Maybe the auto guys in Lagos can comment on the willingness to pay for premium batteries.
I could be wrong though.

Nothing just yet! Still minor leak or should I say seepage. BTW do you have the front mount for the 2003 Accord LX 2.4L?

I use a Lexus es 330 and I have changed the battery twice in a week, at first I thought the battery I bought was fake not until I bought the second battery and I still have the same problem. Whenever I park and off the engine the car refuses to start unless I start the engine with another battery then put in back mine. I don't think it's the alternator because sometimes after using another battery to start the car I can still drive it out, park and come back home without giving me problem and sometimes it just won't start​ after I park. I also noticed when I'm driving at night if I put on the headlight my dashboard light will go off, the AC will go off and the DVD system and sometimes even without putting on the headlight​ the AC and DVD goes off.
I'm afraid of calling a rewire to come check it because they sometimes just create extra problems.

If you are good with DIY it's really not a big deal. I have done this. All you need is a multimeter. If you don't already own one, it may be best to just take the car to a good mechanic. However, the summary of the procedure is that you set your multimeter to amps and disconnect the negative battery terminal. Use the multimeter as a bridge between the negative terminal and the ground on the body of the vehicle (e.g where the negative battery cable connects to the chassis). If there's a drain you will have a significant amp reading. (BTW all accessories must be off while you do this). What's next is to start pulling fuses/relays one at a time while checking the amp reading. The one that drops the amp reading indicates where the problem lies.

I am yet to see any accredited dealer of Cars or Mobile Phone recall anything in Nigeria.

Even Samsung during the messy Galaxy Note recall, the thing no reach Nigeria.

We kinda have a weak CPC (Consumer Protection) in Nigeria.

Toyota Nigeria (Elizade, Briscoe, Globe Motor etc) and Coscharis (Jaguar, Ford, Range Rover etc) do donate free cars to agency that are supposed to fight in justice done to consumers in Nigeria.

So once a dealer pocket agencies responsible for protecting consumer right, who go fight the battle.

A well-known accredited car dealer was said to be using a wrong engine oil grade to service new cars that are still under warranty and free service year, so if a car dealer can use a 20W-50 to do free engine oil change service for car made between 2010 - 2018 and such dealership is still in business till this moment, why do you expect such dealer to do vehicle recall.

You haven't seen anything. A friend of mine has a 2015 corolla bought brand new. After some years of servicing at a top 3 Toyota dealer in Naija was complaining bitterly to me that the car was being a bit sluggish despite the thousands he coughs out per service at the dealer. He decided to change to a Kazeem for servicing and went to ask one of his buddies at the top 3 dealership what oil to use. The guy told him to use Visco 2000 that the oil is even better than what they use at the dealership! Maybe they use amasco oil (no offence to amasco). I advised him to get 0W-20
Finally when he got Kazeem for servicing the Kazeem had serious doubts whether the oil filter had ever been changed

Please my Honda accord 05 pulled up the P0175 code... after a reset, it comes up again... initially i was having an EGR issue... so i changed the valve... dats sorted out. now the check light comes up with the P0175 code... please advice

I once had this problem from bad petrol. I simply changed where I buy petrol from and it has never returned. In my case I didn't bother thinking AF sensor because I replaced it with a brand new Denso direct-fit like 1-2 years prior.

Regarding the Caliper tool, make certian that the piston(s) are push in and not screw in types.

My VW uses a screw in type piston.

Wow. We learn everyday. Never knew of screw in pistons. Mine is push in

2 new additions for me;

1. brake caliper tool

2. Disposable dust mask (for brake jobs)

Just for those who may be in the same situation, I have found from research that denatured alcohol or methylated spirit is a readily available substitute that can do this job.

My search ends... Dump methylated spirit into a spray bottle and spray away!
