Decent prices can't be a cheap as rekitting .. Some of us are very cheap we don't like to replace what can be repaired for fraction of the price for replacement.

I guess it's a DIY thingie, so big shops probably don't do it.

I did do this some 2-3 years ago and the pump is still doing great. The Honda service manual has the exploded diagrams and only indicates replacement if certain parts are worn. It also recommends steering gear overhaul in certain instances; but too many special tools required.

I visited Briscoe service centre in abuja only to find gallons of empty 20w-50 engine oil in their dumpsite. I was shocked. And then imagine how much customers pay to have their cars serviced in such centres only to be rendered poor services

This is the problem. No accountability. Even one Elizade my friend was using used 20w-50 as well! Same Abuja as well. You spend so much only to have your car kazimized by Kamaru's in coveralls

Will be good to address those. If you compromise on those 2 things, your catalytic converter is at risk of failing.

I will do the rebuild with Rad without blinking. I have been waiting for these kind of services a loooooooong time. I will even ship the engine from Abuja to Lagos for the rebuild. I actually think it's a particular clientele that would demand rebuild services. I just won't be at peace to choose a replace when there's a proven rebuild available. Will have gone for a replacement if your type are not available.

Reminds me of how I once drove over 500km (gombe to Abuja) in 2010 to meet a Honda Place mechanic on account of a P2646 (was very naive knew nothing about cars). Car was in limp mode but I planned driving slow and steady. I was out of luck with Gombe Kazeems; the most promising one told me "Oga walahi na senso froblem" in the end he blocked inlets to my IACV . After a few days with my car acting like a drunkard, I told Kazeem to reverse his evil engineering. He did.
Long story short, when I commenced the journey to Abuja the CEL disappeared before 100km. Looking back now, it must have been a loose connection. I still continued to Abuja and the Honda place guy turned out to be an English speaking Kazeem . Told me to replace fuel pump. For a P2646

This is one of the major problems in Nigeria, car owners/mechanic using non-recomended fluids/parts. This is something I don't joke with. In fact when I buy toks parts I MUST go with the broken one pulled from the vehicle. It must be an exact match. Just because something fits doesn't mean it's what should be there. There a plane that crashed because, one maintenance engineer eye-balled the bolt size he was to replace.

Why is it that we all rush for Toks vehicle instead of naija-used? It's all this abuse that messes up a car whether Toyota or Honda.

A quick update. Car is back to 100% efficiency and Performance.

How did we do it? It was simple and straight forward. The panel beater pulled out a sensor and blocked the sensor inlet. 5 mins after, car started misfiring. This morning, removed the catalytic converter assembly from the manifold, started the car, rev up to 3000, inserted a different catalytic converter assembly, inserted the upstream and downstream sensor, started the car, all misfiring and 02 sensor code disappered. car has driving 15 miles from Ikeja down to Ikoyi, No single is back as at yet, and it was confortably doing 120kmph this afternoon, without hesitation.

Can you believe I bought an LG G2 phone then- brand new from Amazon. I was a novice and phone shipped from "Shenzu" (of course it was cheaper). Immeadiately I did an update the phone bricked! I'm sorry if I'm asking a question that has already been answered previously, but I really need help.

I recently bought a Honda CRV, 2003 model and it's been one headache to another. I've not even been able to enjoy the car.

Recently, the car started having some issues to start. I'll turn the ignition severally and it won't even make a sound, talkess of starting...(you know how a car does when it's on D or R).

The mechanic I consulted checked it and said there's something wrong with the kickstarter. He had to loosen it and he discovered it was a problem with the solenoid or something.

I've changed the solenoid but the problem still persists. I'm at a loss on what to do now. Could it be another thing that's making the car behave like this? The annoying thing is that it doesn't happen every time.

I tried to start it when i called the last electrician and the car started one hand. It was now as if I didn't know what I saying. I also noticed that there's something draining the battery of the car. Could it still be related to the same kick starter problem?

Please tech gurus, help a brother out.

When this happens, does it start in neutral? The issue may be with the neutral safety switch.

I think obeke has summed it up here. If you are not about maintenance, if you will hear noise and ignore it until the car gives up, I would say Toyota. But if you are proactive about maintenance, Honda. Not to say that Honda's can't take abuse, my recommendation is based on the greater strain that ball joint's ungergo in wishbone suspension systems. Wishbones contribute a lot to the better handling the Honda has compared to the Toyota.

2008 Toyota Rav4

Thank God for the wisdom to do car inspection when I bought my car 9 years ago. Although it was a Kazeem I used, he knew what to look out for based on what his people do to vehicles.
Paying for inspection is so worth it and nobody who plans to buy a car should skip it except you know your onions or buying brand new.

In other matters, I scanned a vehicle yesterday and it takes the record for the most warning lights on any vehicle I have ever scanned, most codes too. Powertrain had 4, ABS 5, SRS 5, AT was clear but even the P/S system had codes. My scanner does not assess P/S systems but the warning light was on.
Practically all warning lights were on except the low oil pressure and alternator warning lights. Vehicle had been heavily kazimized. Of course cooling fans were running direct. Guess what? Owner was talking of selling the car off. Maybe to an unsuspecting buyer who would be told "Oga the lights no mean anything".

Bros friendly advise, better go for something higher o. If some of those Kazeems that stand on the breaker bar to tighten bolts e.g spindle nut, handle your tightening when you're not looking you go know how far

No rebuilding for this engine. Such an engine should be replaced, if possible replace person in charge of its maintenance too

Reminds me of the day I bought petrol in a gallon at one funny station in Asaba. Thank God it was in a gallon! Of the 15L ish I bought, 2L was pure mud and water!

I have the dream of buying a portable octane tester just to do some research.
Do you know many of the codes we get are due to poor quality petrol? I once bought petrol somewhere and a little after that my fuel trims kept climbing until my LTFT got above 19 and I got a CEL.
There is no amount of troubleshooting I did not do (that was when I acquired a fuel pressure tester). In the midst of this, tank got low, I bought another tank and that was it. Trims went back to normal with no intervention.

Personally, I will prefer to rebuild if I have the OEM parts, a capable machinist that will rebore cylinders and whatever needs to be machined.
The truth is a replaced engine is no match for a properly rebuilt engine. A rebuilt engine is practically new.
But again, this depend on location and available funds. Although desirable, rebuilding may not be feasible. If you are in Ebonyi (no offence. Most other states join sef) you are better off getting an engine replaced.

On the topic, I think the car already suffered warping of the cylinder head in the overheating episode and the full synthetic oil exposed the overall wear in the engine.

The English speaking mechanic should have started from 10w-40 (synthetic-blend at the most) and see how the car responds before going to lower weight oil. He should have also instructed Uncle to check his oil level every morning for the next month or so.

After getting tired of the almost every other day work on the car, Kamaru tells yusuf he will open the engine and replace the top Gasket. At that point, yusuf decides to sell the car, He is contemplating on how to do it, when he shares the idea of selling the car with ejembi28 his co-worker and he tells him how he sold his problematic car in a couple of hours at a good price.
he directs him to 54srac, Yusuf's cleans up the car and takes it to Kamaru for another session of tweaking (without touching the gasket) , he drives to one of the inspection centers and is met by cardoctor who inspects the car, takes it on a spin and makes him a mouth wittering offer... Kamaru takes the offer and the deal is concluded in 45hours


slamstanlee Buys the car from 54srac and gives it to stacyadams to use on uber. Stacyadams returns the car to factory specs, and the engine knocks in 3days of use.


Uncle gets a Honda accord V6 2010 model, he goes straigh to Kamaru to tropicalize the vehicle and change the engine oil to 20w50.

The engine knocks after 6months of use on his way to ilorin.

You just dip the exposed end into the brake fluid reservoir and it has indicators that read the water content. At 3% (water content) you should plan to change the brake fluid. Greater than 4% means you should change as an emergency due to significant risk of brake failure
