So Yoruba people have community outside their land,
Yes we do. The probable reason why you didn't know is because we respect boundaries, we respect our host communities, we conform to the rules guarding whatever society we find ourselves and we don't play meddlesome politics. We are Omoluabis, we have a high sense of self worth.

EventsRe: Who Is To Pay For An Introduction Reception In A Bride House by placeofallure(f): 3:55pm On Apr 17, 2023
BmAe:
During an introduction or let me say bride price negotiation and payment, the man will bring drinks, bring gift then carry his people down to his woman's house and then pay money for the wedding.

The question now is will he be the one to also pay for the food that the woman and her parents will cook when he and his people visit?

Will the man pay for the food or support since he is coming as a visitor with his people.
Well in my case, my dad was really enthusiastic about the whole thing. You'd think he was the one getting married. Mind you I wasn't the first daughter o. He got yams for pounded yam and bush meat, enough! A bag of rice and drinks. He got my traditional aso oke wrappers specially made because each one has a specific name and meaning according to culture. He got chairs and he painted the whole house.

I got money from my husband too for general planning. We didn't spend much from that since few expenses remained like video coverage and photography, musician fee etc.
My husband's family brought food though but they took it back because it was surplus to requirement.

Anybody can foot the bill once there's understanding between the two families. No hard and fast rules, that's old school.

Money go, woman go. When I was warning you guys in my post that a woman needs to be taken care of if you want your marriage to last, some empty skull said I too like men matter. Now see.

This skill is what you ought to have learnt first, then build your financial security before talking about marriage but You men like putting the cart before the horse.

Number 2, marriage is not for children. Forget the general opinion that it's better to marry a younger girl. mature ladies are still far better in terms of managing hard times and handling tough situations unlike your 23 yr old who has not been through lifes hurdles or surmounted challenges on her own. Prolly she just moved in with you from her parents house where everything is being done for her.

As long as you're still broke and can't meet her needs yet, no amount of begging will make her come back cos that was why she left in the first place.

Focus and complete your skill training. Make sure you learn it very well and start sourcing for jobs.. Also keep looking for a regular job to sustain in the meantime. Forget about her but try to send upkeep for your child

If you hammer tomorrow, look for a mature lady and marry.

All this 20 yr old ladies without tangible source of income rushing into marriage with average Nigerian guys, I pity all of you. You people think marriage is childs play. Make una dey play.
You're correct 100%

They are looking for the trouble again then now say Igbo and other non indigenes are being put in their place as visitors by their Yoruba hosts.

How this concerns APC or Igbo like OP beggars belief. The film makers have not even done as little as apologise and beg for understanding that they were not out to hurt the sensibilities of the heritage of the indigenes they disrespected.

There is nothing exceptional in asking for film be withdrawn. In the early 90s, there was a Yoruba film titled "Arugbo To Re Mecca" that generated uproar, it was stepped down with wisdom and re-edited . The lead actress is still active till date. Even about same time was KIng Wasiu Ayinde's song that denegrates the Yoruba sub ethnic Ogu people of Badagry but he stepped down the song and reworked it to remove the offensive lyric. K1 has gone on to achieve even greater milestones afterwards.

They are ignorant yet forming woke as if they are the first to act or script film that need to be reworked.

Those in the film and those behind it are now in real trouble. Just remove the offensive part and replace the real names of location used with fictional names then apologise to show your art connect with real people.
check my signature for free stuffs!
You're correct. That old movie actually is titled "Asewo to re Mecca" I beg your pardon.

Even my darling Tope Alabi has had to rework the lyrics of her song hyping the late Ireti Ajanaku, her supposed spiritual father. Kwam 1 apologised to the women when he sang "Eyin Mama e senpe" translating to - Old Mamas, take a chill pill..." There's no big deal. You may not see it in that perspective but once it's pointed out, rework it.

But common sense, they say, is not common. See them ascribing everything to APC. Children of perdition, children of hate. If out of ignorance I misrepresent Arochukwu or Amadioha, una no go talk? Nonsense and Concobility!

Aminat, I stared at your picture for long and you stared back.
Your eyes were prying.
They seemed brilliant too.
You died and your dreams died with you.
You didn't stay long enough to make the world shake for you.
Then I wondered what killed you; you didn't give a clue.
Were you indisposed?
Were you famished?
Were you depressed?
Were you bewitched?
So many unanswered were yous....
Your poor father could not fathom why you had to go so soon.
You left your mates in bewilderment, Amina.
Those eyes are saying something but we're too undiscerning to know it.
I hope you have a good passage.
May Allah grant you Aljanat Firdaus

Reminderz:
to be honest, I'm tired of all these make money make money women will come... the problem is not that women won't come, the problem is that who are the women coming? are they coming to take their share, drain you, destroy your life, improve your life or kill you because of what you have?

the more you grow as a man, the more carefully you should choose a woman carefully... the more powerful you become, the more careful you should be around women... most women are mercenaries... what you mostly need to win around women as a man is confidence, experience and your ability to sweet talk your way around them... anything else is secondary... never use your resources to win or impress a woman, you must continue doing that, else she leaves.
You're very correct. I like it and find irresistible men who have confidence. It always feels like there's an enigma around them and you'll be curious to unravel it. If you flaunt one useless wealth around me, it's minus one for me. The signal that sends to me is - who do you think you are? - I switch off instantly. I've always believed in making my own money, that won't fly. Unfortunately, most women these days will rate you according to how deep your pocket is. shocked

Before I got married, I made this resolve of No Third Parties and it has been helpful. If I decided it's him, then I have to be responsible enough to handle whatever comes from it and not bother other people who didn't make that decision with me. My principle is: Always take responsibility for your actions.

I was talking with my mum last week and in passing she said I never reported my husband to him one day in all the years - about a decade. He offends me but I know early in life that third parties will only fuel up your small issues. We solve our issues ourselves. Young ladies learn please.

I remember back in the late 80s and early 90s when as a kid in Festac Town, Eyo Festival was done and it was a sight to behold. The festival for almost three decades have stopped at festac. I think it only holds at Lagos Island. Such a beautiful rare event.

If the film portrays Eyo Festival as bad, then the movie should be banned. That's a sacrilege to a culture people practice.
Some Woke Shoyinka wannabes right above you thinks differently. Oga Thesis writer thinks it's ok to misrepresent the cultural heritage of a people. Sacrilege!

One thing I was made to understand about that kind of environment is that people living there hardly prosper...I may be wrong though na hear I hear am.
You are very wrong.

Infact I was smiling as I read through everything the writer said cause I can relate. I have lived in that kinda environment. I was born there and grew up there and every character the OP described was present in our house. We do fight but those fights never last beyond hours. And if an outsider dared to fight anyone among us, he is in deep trouble.

We have eaten sacrifices too but we're good. You know that thing they call "saara", we don chop am. We're plenty. There was no house in our neighborhood then that could boast of about 50 or 60 children except our house. Even from the nearby streets, they come and hire or rent us to come and eat saara and our parents oblige gladly. grin grin Damn!

We don't shy away from running errands, in fact we love it. All the children will gather today and fetch water for Iya Bose. Tomorrow, we will fetch for Iya Idowu, we will fetch for Iya Sara etc. My mum was the disciplinarian of the compound. Every child fears her, she's Madam Kogberegbe. That attitude shapened me and I'm eternally grateful to her for that. My dad doesn't beat, he's never beaten me as a matter of fact.

Talking about being successful in life, more than half of us do not live in Nigeria anymore. They live in overseas countries and they're doing well. We have chartered accountants, we have lecturers, we have bank managers, we have CEOs now. I have fond memories of that house and all of us still communicate till tomorrow, we attend family events together still. We loved ourselves truly.

Sadly, all the elderly males (the fathers) are dead except my dad yet he wasn't the youngest then. Talk about God's superfluous blessings.

Fond memories, fond thoughts.
