Oh, I see! That's fine though if the offer is from your fam member in the UK. I've got fam in the UK... My younger brother lives there too with his immediate fam. There's been a spike in inflation in the UK due to global financial headwinds, but with focus, one can develop streams of income to weather the storm. London is more expensive than areas such as Manchester so you just have to figure out how to cut cost.

You should give it a try though since it's for education and work ... and you have a small nuclear family.

The exchange rate differential majorly is what makes folks in Nigeria to want to leave, otherwise, why go to struggle in another country? I still remember how back in the early to late 1980s, Nigerians used to fly regularly on holidays to the UK and NY onboard the iconic British Caledonian, PanAm, and Nigeria Airways and return. Those days can still be got back and even better with proper decentralization of the economy based on
innovation.

Talk to you later.
Hmmmn! You are knowledgeable about many things. Something tells me you are a bit elderly too.

Hey, Placeofallure, how's it going?

Are you headed for the Middle-East (Asia), Canada, UK for work or academics?

Here's more of my POV below:

If you've done your due diligence and the offer is genuine (with real testimonials from others and references) in the medical or tech fields for instance, then just do it. But then again, since your subconcious is reacting to the
RED flags such as you having to leave your man behind in the interim, and the "pushiness" then you have to step back more and logically analyse the situation.

There have been horrendous stories though of innocent and unsuspecting young women and men from Yorubaland and elsewhere who spent millions of
Naira (derived from selling their family lands or borrowed money) to travel to Oman, Lebanon, etc, and ended up getting their travel passports seized and turned to sex slaves as housemaids instead of getting the social worker or other formal or semi-formal jobs they were promised.

Abike Dabiri's intervention got the ladies out of Oman and Lebanon back to Nigeria.

It would have been better if these folks had used the millions of
Naira spent to travel out on agribusinesses and other investments back in Nigeria.
No, nothing of the sort. It's UK and for studies and work. The man pushing is family, an uncle, me no wan go, but he just wants me to go. He

Well you could be right but not certainly all of us are like that.

I do caution my big sis at times when she's having little altercation with her hubby.

When I got married, I got to see first-hand how impossible you men can be at times.

We, hubby and I, don't run into problem often because naturally I'm your typical introvert.

Then the words of one of my pastors always reverberate - respect and submit to your husband, his stupidity or egocentrism regardless, the Bible didn't attach any clause or condition to it. I am very "churchy"

Many times, Men are not the wisest or the most tactful creatures, the woman's innate abilities must be expressed here to keep things sane.

Sometimes, I let things go awry so he can see my point without me necessarily engaging in an argument or scuffle. He'll make a detour with an apology.

Possibly, you could do a thorough self evaluation too. The problem may not be the girls.

The first two to three months of Nigerians getting abroad is always like;

"ohh my God, see 24hrs light, Nigeria failed us" most even forget they pay $300 for utility bills every month. LoL

"See road. Ohh my God, there's no road and fine cars in Nigeria, we all trek on mud"

"Mehn, see fine fine oyinbo, I'll Marry like 2 oyinbo for here and get papers within two years" only to later realized this is only but illusion as most Nigerian guys are ugly and might not be good enough to even get dates.

"Damn. See how much my salary is wen I convert it to naira. Now, I'm earning more than a bank manager in Nigeria" Only to later realized that 60% of this money will go to taxes and bills. Nigerians at home will also bill them

"Take pictures every day to pepper ignorant Nigerians at home" only to get tired after two months when reality knock

That was me when I paid $350 for light in February

Add yours

You guys shouldn’t have said that Lagos is a no man’s land.

Lagos is NOT a “NO MAN’S LAND …. and will never be!

Anambra is not a “NO MAN’S LAND

Kano is not a “NO MAN’S LAND

Bayelsa is not a “NO MAN’S LAND

London is not a “NO MAN’S LAND

New York is not a “NO MAN’S LAND

Durban, South Africa is not a “NO MAN’S LAND

Malaysia is not a “NO MAN’S LAND

The same attitude that you guys are using to cause problems and give Nigeria a bad name in South Africa, Malaysia and so on is what you are now repeating in Lagos.

You guys need to do an introspection and examine yourselves, especially your foolish toxic - tribalistic dominance mentality.

Look at the first military coup in Nigerian and the role you guys played? That was the beginning of Nigeria’s mess that we are still trying to get out from..

Also look at the civil war when you guys wanted to leave Nigeria and betray the federation just because CRUDE OIL had just been discovered from your region (NB: The first oil well, Olobiri oil well was in old eastern region)

You guys are PERPETRATORS of problems in Nigeria and NOT VICTIMS.

At least after today’s election, that your foolish sense of over-importance will reduce.

You have lost the presidential election, you’ll lose Lagos too today.

You have awoken the ethnic and tribal consciousness in most of us, including our highly intelligent youths who don’t normally bother about things like this before.
I hope this truth will sink in. But the truth is dem no dey hear word. They think everything is by aggression, never so. Strategies win wars not aggression. Follow the teachings of Tai chi...

CSTRR:
First and foremost, the federal allocation.

Oil resources are sold, and the revenues shared to hungry states in the SW, including Lagos.

Secondly, delta state is a major source of federal govt dollars.

Without delta state, govts would not be able to carry out infrastructural projects in the South West and yorubas would not be able to source dollars from the bank, for schooling trade and e.t.c.

Without dollars, imports cannot happen, and I don't need to tell you what that will lead to.

And lastly, without delta state, Nigerian currency would be less than tissue paper because there is very little dollars that would be coming in to support the naira.
The vast majority of Nigerian dollars come from oil exports and delta is a major major oil state.

So respect your elders.
You have much more of listening to elders to do than me. Listen to XAUBulls

XAUBulls:
I have to robustly step in here to educate you on Delta State's contributions to Nigeria's national income before you twist current and historical facts further in your reply to @placeofallure.

First off, Bola Tinubu who is a technocrat, accountant and former treasurer with the American multinational oil and gas giant ExxonMobil, was responsible for laying the financial foundations and increasing the Lagos State IGR from a mere N13 billion annually to a huge N400 billion annually (mostly through PAYE and more) as of today through the continuity of governance. In addition, Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu is a brilliant investment banker that worked in the international operations or
Foreign Exchange departments, and he is a former treasurer in the banks where he worked all before the age of 40.

Peter Obi only increased the
Anambra State IGR by a mere N1 billion per annum from N7 billion to N8 billion in his 8 years as Governor.

Kaduna State under Governor Nasir El-Rufai increased their IGR from N15 billion to a stellar N96 billion per annum in 8 years.

So, Lagos State can survive without
monthly Federal allocation from oil exports because Lagos State generates more internally than it receives from Federal allocation, and the onshore and offshore oil and gas producing Ilaje-Yoruba areas of Ondo State have been contributing to the sustainance of the Nigerian national income too in Naira and USD, hence generating more income from oil and gas than
Imo and Abia combined based on official data that can be found uploaded on NL and on other online platforms!

The Itsekiris of Delta State in the oil and gas-rich areas such as
Ugborodo (Ugborodo is the original name NOT Escravos), who have pure and direct Yoruba ancestry with their Ilaje cousins in Ondo State, have also contributed a LOT to the national income through crude oil export terminals from the Okan, Meji, Meta, and Meren oil fields, and more despite major oil spills that have led to water pollutions in those Itsekiri communities in Delta State where the largest percentage of crude oil and gas export earnings in Delta State come from.

So, Yoruboid states or communities cannot be accused by you of parasitism or being "hungry" because of the vast contributions of the Ilajes and Itsekiris (who originally evolved from Ijebu, Ilaje, and Ife ancestral bloodlines all from Yorubaland) before the arrival in the 1490s in Ode Itsekiri (an Ijebu settlement which had Chief Lenuwa as their leader) of Prince Ginuwa the son of the then reigning Oba of Benin kingdom. Ginuwa's mother was one of the wives of the Oba of Benin and a Yoruba woman from Ile Ife in the modern-day State of Osun.

I worked with a major multinational oil and gas company from the 1990s in PH as well. The vast contributions of the oil-producing States or areas such as Delta, Ondo, Edo, Akwa Ibom, Rivers, Bayelsa, Imo, Abia, etc, CANNOT be minimised in the grand scheme of things and they deserve a better deal before crude oil becomes useless in the near future.

You the younger folks must also get informed on historical events and stop the ethnic bigotry.

I hope this helps.
