Exactly.

Erdogan has been a thorn in flesh for US, Israel and Europe.
No doubts, they have been dreaming of getting rid of him.

This coup has long been anticipated. Even the London odds makers had already staked out the odds.

It's quite ironic that Ironman Erdogan, who used to send soldiers to quench very peaceful protests, is the one now holed up somewhere, begging the people to go out in the streets to protest.

Power is transient, very very transient.

I'm laughing.

Well, if you can recall a similar situation in Egypt not too long ago, all the US has to do is to fiddle with the semantics a bit , by say, calling it " an unanticipated transition" , but not a coup.

In geopolitics, duplicity and ambiguity is the name of the game. No one plays it better than the US.

In fact, John Kerry has already spoken, and has surreptitiously telegraphed the US support for the this " unanticipated transition".

Rather than condemn the coup outrightly as would have been expected of a big Ally of Turkey, he was somewhat circumspect when he said " we look forward to restoration of peace and continuity".

That tells the whole story.

There is nothing like a passed state. I just gave you the definition of a failed state and I explained why Nigeria doesn't fall into that category. I know you are frustrated with Nigeria, we all are. But there are many Nigerians who have returned home from western countries and they are doing much better here at home. Yes Nigeria has failed to live up to its potentials but it is not a failed country. It is still a land of opportunity for those who are patient and willing to make the necessary sacrifices.
Bros, I agree with most of what you're saying. We all do.

But consider for example, if you were a citizen of Benue, you stand there and watch waves of Ak-47 wielding Fulani herdsmen kill, pillage and sack one Benue community after another, proudly parading around their prizes with their AK 47s, while the police looks on from a distance, impotent.

Would then consider Nigeria a failed state or not?

Consider as another example, the residents of ikorodu and parts of Ogun state fully under the control of bandits that Rob, rape and kill residents as they like.

Ikorodu is in the outskirts of Lagos, the financial hub of Nigeria and infact, Africa.

Can you tell the residents of these areas that you have a functional government in Nigeria?

hmm, i fully agree with Sanusi this time around.
The Floating Exchange Rate policy which was fully welcomed has to be fully implemented.

Just look at remittances from the Diaspora, it was approximately 20 billion in 2015; since the policy the official rate rose above $300 per dollar, encouraging most Nigerians outside Nigeria to send money home.
I am certain 2016 remittances might almost double this.
The people in this government are not smart enough to recognize that the remittances from Nigerians in the diaspora is a guaranteed alternative for forex earnings, forex reserves and liquidity in the system.

By playing hide and seek with their forex policies, the government exacerbates an already bad situation.

Nigeria is not a failed state. That term has a specific definition in political science. According to the Fund for Peace, there are four criteria for defining a country as a failed state. If a country has a government that can legitimately initiate the use of force for maintaining law and order, if the govt can make collective decisions for the public, if the govt can provide basic public amenities and if the govt can interact fully with the international community then it is not a failed state.
OK.
Yahoooo!

Plaetton, Nigeria is not quite a failed state, but it is very nearly one. Be that as it may, Nigeria is where it is today because we are culturally hostile to failure. Nigerians don't necessarily glorify failure, they just pretend it doesn't exist because we treat it as a taboo. You only need to speak with carryover students from Nigerian universities to understand how society ostracises people who have failed...heck, you just have to read some comments on this thread. Alas, when failure is seen as a bad thing instead of the inescapable exemplification of human imperfection; as a thing of shame, instead of a thing to learn from, we are bound to shy away from trying (for fear of failure), then pretend we can't fail.
So you see, It's not the glorification of failure that makes Nigeria this mediocre, it's precisely the opposite: hostility towards failure.
I kinda get your point, but I disagree.

You can't rationalize FAILURE, make the rationalization of failure a sub-culture, and then expect to compete favorably in a competitive world.

If we continue to rationalize FAILURE, that mentality Rob's us of the necessary impetus needed to make corrections and move forward.

Just entertain yourself with the plethora of excuses our leaders at every level rationalize for their many many failures.

How many of our past and present leaders have ever ever admitted a mistake, failure, a regret for their policies and actions ?

None.

Another good example.
Nigeria is a FAILED state.
Each time I say that , someone is quick to tell me that it's not, despite a universe of evidence pointing to the obvious fact.

GEJ Mismanaged our economy
What exactly does " mismanaged our economy" mean in the Nigerian context.

For example, we can say that George Bush mismanaged the US economy after years of robust growth and employment left behind by Bill Clinton.

Who left the Nigerian economy robust that Jonathan and the PDP mismanaged?

Except for perhaps the 70s, the Nigerian economy NEVER had it as good as it was under Jonathan.
This is a documented fact.
Every socio-economic index was Green and pointing higher during the reign of Jonathan.

The Nigerian middle class expanded for the first time in many many decades during the stewardship of Jonathan.

If those are not indicators of good economic management, then perhaps we may need a Nigerian redefinition of " economic management".

Good point you make.

Though, if you ask me, we never had good productive value from independence.

Our economy at 1960 was dependent on revenue from agric and some mining (Oil was there but it was not a major contributor till the 1970's...for various reasons). AND we had a guaranteed market in the UK.

Once our revenue from agric started falling in the 1970's ...we just switched to oil. We did have some manufacturing capacity, but thanks to free oil money...we did not develop it.(Why make biscuit when you can import it).

Once prices go down, the true nature of our economy gets revealed. And it happens every time.

Hi
Thanks for coming into the picture. My argument have not been strictly from spiritual point of view. I have just tried to be objective as a scientist and a spiritual man.

If you can scientifically prove that the following are BORN and not made, then you can easily prove that a homosexual is Born and not made.( Anorexia, Kleptomania, Phobia, Paedophilia, Psychopathy, etc all the same family of ailments. Are these all not acquired based on our exposures and experience?

There are several cultures with not a single historical record of Homosexuality eg. Yoruba, maybe IBO culture. They do not even have words for it..in their local language. However, now because of exposures to the western world we now have several men and women, guys and young girls from these cultures who are homosexuals. If people were born homosexuals, every culture must as a necessity have local words for the behaviour.

I am a physicist and I know that not everything we do has a physical explanation. We accept somethings without expecting to know why the seemingly impossibility seems possible.

Example: we have a theory called wave-particle duality of matter. Simplified, it means that matter(solids, liquids & gases)- things that are tangible are transmutable into energy(capacity to do work- waves, heat, electricity etc) and vise vassal. In quantum physics for instance, the probability that I can jump through a solid wall is not zero i.e. if the condition is right, everything is possible.

The difference between me and you is simply that you look at things ONLY from the PHYSICAL frame of reference. I STRONGLY believe that other frames of reference exist in addition to the Physical (SPIRITUAL inclusive).

You know they say, experience is the best Teacher. My understanding of the spiritual is not from speculation. From my spiritual frame of reference, understandably you are completely naive. It is impossible to explain everything purely from the Physical frame of reference if indeed you want to scientifically and unbiasedly look at things. An example is NDE phenomenon.
You keep up blabbing about anorexia, kleptomania, pedophilia, etc being diseases.
Yes they certainly are. They are diseases that cause pain to the victims and the society at large.

But you refused to answer my question whether left-handedness is also a disease.
Is it ?
Pls answer.
If yes, tell us why you think so.
If no, pls also tell us why you don't think so.

In the remote past, European whites once considered black skin a disease. Infact, go back to South Africa 30yrs ago.

Homosexualism is a disease that needs treatment just like Anorexia, Kleptomania, Paedophilia, Hydrophobia etc. The disease is not Pathological but Psychological. Let's not justify stupidity because some oyinbos agree among themselves that it should be part of their expression of modernization.
First of all, there is no such thing as homosexualism. I am sure you meant homosexuality.

Secondly, what is your definition of a disease ? Is left-handedness also disease?
Cam we say that left-handedness and kleptomania are in the same category of abnormalities?

My point here is that a person born of a condition THAT DOES NO HARM, NO PAIN to him/ herself NOR to the SOCIETY cannot be considered a diseased person.

That you dislike or are disgusted with homosexuality does not make it a disease,.. especially considering that they tend to be happier (gay), more creative than you.

Infact, a good case can be made that YOU, who harbor a morbid fear of something that doesn't negatively affect you in any way, are more fit to be labelled " psychologically DISEASED" than a happy homosexual.

And when homophobia is rooted on religious faith , it becomes the case of the pot calling the kettle" black".

Because we believe in demons, spirits and curses, a huge number of African descent men are massively insecure in their sexual orientation. Like shadeyinka, legions of us understand the world and our identities through the notion of 'possession'. We can never be our own people.'Demons' of murder, theft and gay ish can control us unless we submit to the white Chizoss spirit who alone has the power to free us. We can never have our own sense of self because the idea of self possession is alien, even hostile, to many of our cultures.

We don't know who we are and we don't want to.

Thus a great many of our young men waste their time engaged in the utterly irrelevant focus on battymanism.
The rest of humanity rightly laughs at us, my people.

It's actually one of the arguments I posted earlier on this thread

https://www.nairaland.com/2353987/three-arguments-gods-existence

The argument from consciousness: Consciousness is not a physical thing. It's also called awareness and that's not physical. It's not a physical thing that you can observe and measure but is the means by which you observe and measure. It's critical to my argument that consciousness be understood as something immaterial, which it actually is, going by its definition. If you think about it all knowledge stems from consciousness because to truly know anything you must be aware of it. You cannot know what you are not aware of.

Now if atheists are right then there should be no consciousness at all. In a purely physical world consciousness would be the anathema, something strange. But there is consciousness and therefore the atheist is not correct. Consciousness being immaterial cannot be explained by physical means. It did not evolve since evolution applies to physical beings. It does not spontaenously emerge because emergence typically deals with how complex PHYSICAL systems arise from simpler precursors. Atheism being materialistic in nature has nothing to offer to explain mental awareness. But the theist believing in an eternal conscious God has a means to explain consciousness. And that my friends wraps up my argument.
