Religion and Nigeria.

I wonder why these people are so religious but can steal without remorse.
Indeed.
Starting off with fasting and prayers is a very bad omen for this beleaguered state.

People who do not understand the rational cause and effect relationships of state and resource management, should never be nominated ,let alone elected into office.
Unfortunately, the citizen voters themselves do not understand it either. So , we continue the merry go round .

When leaders , especially an incoming governor, resorts to magical thinking and invoking religious superstitions, it is usually a sure sign that they have no concrete vision to offer the citizens.

I will say that Nigerians deserve everything they get from their political leaders.
In fact , they deserve more punishment, more humiliation and more pauperization from their new elected governments at all levels.

In any country where the president chooses the leadership of the parliament, that country cannot be said said to be practicing democracy.
Therefore, Nigeria's Democracy has obviously failed.
The lawmaking body is supposed to be completely independent as a separate arm of government. The legislative function is primarily to checkmate and hold the executive arm of government accountable.
When the head of the executive arm ultimately decides who is the speaker or senate president, then this democratic experiment has failed.

I was going to say the same thing. The OP sounds like a lazy person.

The OP is now in place where hard work and perseverance have a direct relationship with comfort and privilege, and he finds himself unable to cope.
What the op is whining about are the dues that every immigrant pays before they arrange themselves over time to a better life in North America or Europe.
TravelRe: Lady Kicks Her Hubby Out Of His Own Home In UK After He Brought Her From Nigeria by plaetton: 2:13pm On Mar 14, 2023
etrange:
Sad to watch.

Let's assume it's not a skit. What did he do? His actions here are very calculated. He's not angry or even emotional. He's recording her and saying exactly what he wants the people watching the video to hear. That's not the typical reaction of an innocent black man. If someone is kicking you out of your own house, all you have to do is to call the police. The law is not arbitrary, so they won't support her blindly. But he didn't do that. He made a video saying things like "honey", "let me settle", etc. without addressing the reason he's being kicked out. He clearly seeks the sympathy of the biased African demography. The lady on the other is very upset and couldn't care less about sounding nice or pleasing anyone at the moment. That's someone who's been hurt.

Before y'all come for me, please know that no woman has the right to wake up and kick her partner out of thier house just like that. They pay the rent/mortgage together, and the lady has just as much right as the man (it's not like Africa where the man is the only source of income in many homes). To kick one partner out of the house, you must obtain a legal permission for that. Such permissions are given on the ground of abuse, cheating, etc. So whenever you see a man leaving the house for a woman without making a fuss, he must have done something that he wouldn't want to get to court. So they just give in at the moment and resort to reasoning afterwards or, like in this case, appeal to public sympathy.

I see how this video can be triggering to Nigerians who are used to having it the other way round. Y'all forget that men throw women out of the house everyday in Nigeria and nobody makes a big deal about it. The logic is, it is his house. So going by that same logic, when it is not just his house anymore, it makes sense that he becomes just as accountable as the woman.

I wish them peace!
He's being calm and recording the incident because that is the only thing that would let people see what is transpired. If he didn't, everyone, including the police and courts, would only listen to whatever the woman says that transpired .
If he were to lose his temper or appear aggressive, then the system would automatically assume him guilty of anything the woman accuses him of.
He played it perfect.

In time, we will come of age.

You probably say this either from ignorance or a level of intellectual laziness, no offense.
Any well schooled person understands the strong co-relation. It is probably lost on you that all the developed countries of the world fall along certain latitudes and are mostly in the temperate regions of the world. This has been well established by advanced research in the worlds leading universities.

The average African spends almost no time on LGBTQ issues.

Did you hear a single word about LGBTQ issues in the campaigns and debates for the just concluded Nigerian Presidential and NASS elections?
My dear sir.
Just in this discussion alone you have already offered 3 different excuses for our perennial failures in nation building.
First , when it suits us , we blaming colonialism, then neo-colonialism. From there we blame history and geography.
Yes, history, geography and colonialism played very important roles in defining our nationhood, they are NOT legitimate excuses in this modern era.
In this modern era, right before our eyes, we have seen many equally poor and previously exploited nations shake off their past and define new blazing paths for their nations.
It is no magic, it is not even as complicated as we think. It only requires deep sense of patriotism, clear vision, sincerity and consistency.

For the depth and variety of points the gentleman raised, your response is disappointingly shallow. Also your comparison with India and China is rather off - you are not comparing apples with apples. One of the biggest factors in civilization is the effect of climate and environment - the geography of a place plays a huge role in its civilization - and aside from this, a China for example is probably the oldest continuous civilization in the world.

It is true that we have our own demons and foibles but your response was way too shallow for what that gentleman put out.
As you can see from the his post, it was a long mishmash of ramblings that had no coherent and logical flow. I was loathe to respond to that post on a point by point basis.
I have gotten extremely fed up with my fellow Africans blaming the west for all our tragic failures.
Even if agree that the west are thieving and cunning people, at least we should credit them with consistency, consistency for the self-interest of the nations and generations of the children.
For we African cry babies, what are we consistent with in terms of the self-interest of our nation's and future generations? The answer is Zero.
To day that geography is the issue that determines the level of civilization is rather poor, a 'D ' for you.

If the average African expends as much mental energy and passion against bad governance as they do against homosexuality, they could actually make a positive difference in their national lives.

Even where I live, during election time, other races asking questions about education, health care, job creation policies of political candidates, but in many forums that I belong to, my fellow Africans would almost be solely concerned with whether the candidate supports LGBT friendly policies or not. It's like we seem perpetually unable to see the world beyond our primordial prejudices .

The western countries, thought they may appear desirable on the surface, are already ghosts of their former glories by the adoption of some of these crazy ideas which even birthed other terrible trends like gender dysphoria in children as young as 5 years.

The ones that have managed to stay off this trend like Russia and some middle Eastern countries are still able to keep their sanity.

Waoh! I didn't hear of this but I would love to have links to the full details.

But the hard fact is that many Nigerian politicians, wealthy men and people in the entertainment industry have at one time or the other needed to do things like this in order to be admitted into the circle.

Atiku was famed to engage in it. Nnamdi Kanu in one of his broadcasts (which I listened to) mentioned that Peter Obi is Atiku's receptacle.

FFK has at one time in recent past clap-backed at Dino Melaye as a gaybriel. And I won't be surprised if he (FFK) also has or engage in such fantasies because "only a thief sure can tell the footprints of another thief on the rocks".

Yet another. Such shame. May the heavens not bless us with hard-to-manage children.

Its sad really, the way Africans takes some issues unquestionably.

It makes us to see ourselves as inferior to a supposedly aryan or Caucasian race. Meanwhile Africa is the bedrock of civilization and it was only decades of pillaging by the whites that destroyed the rich African history and culture.

You should know that this "freedom to do things between adults" that you preach vehemently equally has strong opposition from many populations amongst the whites but they have sadly been forced by the few misquided that run their governments to align with such strange dictates. The small population that still manages to brave the storm and speak out, act out and point out against these abnormalities are the senior citizens who find it difficult to justify how these strange laws and way of life reflect the dreams of their founding fathers.

The west is the greatest hypocrite if you must know. It is they that perpetually labour to keep Africa underdeveloped through various means including sponsored coups, regime changes or outright assassinations of perceived great/promising African leaders. They act sanctimonious but they try to lobby your leaders, or force them at times, to keep doing evil or acting dictatorial and getting corrupt in order to further their own (west's) interest. Then they turn back to accuse you of failing to develop or of being held down because of corruption.

Recently, they come here to accuse African leaders of getting too close with the Chinese. But they have forgotten that the foray of the Chinese into the African continents has been less than two decades, yet their presence is trailed by lots of infrastructural developments in the road-and-belt initiative. But for the west that have frolicked with Africans for close to a century, it has been wars, famine, currency deregulation and all sorts of underdevelopment that they've offered us.

When China comes to Africa, it is to do mutually beneficial business. But when the west comes to Africa, it is to tamper with your domestic policies to their benefits and to your disadvantage.

It is even funny that this US diplomat that has been travelling across the African continent to discourage African leaders from forming alliances with China has been travelling through African airports constructed by the Chinese, driving on "African roads built by China", using "African trains built by the chinese", yet condemning African leaders for aligning with China.
.
The west was able to transit through her period of industrial revolution using fossil fuels and built herself to achieve this new dispensation of digital revolution. Now that Africa is on the trajectory of getting through her own industrial revolution (which can only be guaranteed with the use of fossil fuel), the west suddenly realized that there is something called global warming. Throughout their years of industrialization, they contributed 80 percent of greenhouse gasses that is giving us the current climate problems in the world, Africans contributing nothing throughout all those periods. Now that Africa is to need fossil fuel to industrialize and contributing less than 5 percent of greenhouse gasses in the process, the west is trying to mandate us to transit to non-industrial sustainable renewables.

Hypoxrisy is you building your own house with bricks but trying to encourage others to build the few they need to build with straws quoting depletion of earth sands as a reason they need to do that.

To know how deep the west is wicked even to themselves, you can't go to an Scottish bar and say that you want an "English breakfast". It will be seen as an insult. The US blew the NORD stream pipeline that supplies cheap gas to industrialised Europe, starving them of cheap energy source and almost plunging Europeans into deadly winter. Yet they come to Africa to preach to us about managing relations between African countries. Nigeria supplies Ghana and other neighbouring countries with electricity and gas, sometimes even to the disadvantage of Nigerian citizens, but the US, France and Britain have ganged up against Russia, using powerless Ukraine as a pawn in this game.

I can go on and on about the hypocrisy if the west, even to themselves. So please don't look down on yourself. You don't need to kowtow to the west in setting your own standard. As an African, I have had my own fair exposure with a brief sourjon in the west but I managed to keep my sanity all through it. As Africans, we have our own values and cultures that are sufficient to set our own standards and there is nothing wrong with preaching our own standards to the westerners too rather than allowing them to overrun our own standards with theirs.
Say everything you want to say about the west doing this or doing that to Africa. But one important point that eludes you and people like you is that if Africans loved themselves as much as other races loved themselves, the west, no matter how cunning, would not control you to work against your
self-interest and those of your unborn generations.

The west did just about three same to India , China and just about every emerging and third world nation.
India and China, for good examples, love their future generations so much that they shook off all the shackles of colonialism, and are today equal rivals and indispensable economic powers to the West.

Our problem is Africa is that we are genetically wicked, wicked to even our future generations of children.
We are always looking for the slightest excuse to hate ourselves.

See you , for example, amount of mental gymnastics you attempted, just to correlate your intolerance for homosexuals with your so-called western imperialism.

Is it homsexuals or western imperialism that causes persistent fuel scarcity in Nigeria or is it the avarice of your elites?
But for folks like you, it is much easier to project primordial prejudices and victim syndrome than it is confront the Satan of corruption, self hate and cowardice that perpetually bedevil us.

Africans are not only mentally messed up, but world class cowards.

Very pedestrian argument.
The electoral laws empowered INEC to make and publish guidelines for the conduct of fair and free elections. By authoring and publishing guidelines for the conduct of elections, those guidelines become by-laws, legally bound by the electoral laws.
Therefore, INEC is bound by the electoral laws to abide by the very same Guidelines the same electoral laws empowered INEC to make and publish, and for which INEC did indeed author and publish such guidelines.

Fellow Nairalanders,

Today's presidential election is very important. We've experienced economic stagnation & contraction due to both external and self-inflicted factors. We've experienced an epidemic of kidnappings and violent deaths due to banditry, terrorism, ethnic clashes, and separatism.

According to various presidential polls, We are faced with a historic three way race. Any one of them could win today, which means that you don't have to worry about the spoiler effect. Instead of voting for the lesser evil, you can vote for the best candidate of the 3.

I therefore urge you to consider the responsibilities of the presidency - improving the economy, securing the nation, strengthening our democratic institutions, reforming the legal system - and pick the candidate who is most likely to perform excellently if he wins the election.

Vote for someone who will appoint the best Nigerians at home or abroad to their administration. Vote for someone who will unite the country and strengthen our democracy. Vote for someone who has the physical & mental vigour required to handle the toughest job in the country.

Don't vote for a mediocre candidate just because you think the best cannot win. Vote for your best. This time, your vote won't be wasted.

Thank you, and good luck to Nigeria!
Well said.
Elections have consequences, serious consequences that stretch up to 8 solid years. The 8yrs of Nigeria's destiny lay right on your thumb right now.

I'm not sure why anyone could do a potential voting analysis while ignoring the most important and profound trend in the political space.
This silly idea that governors magically control the voters of their states has got to go. It is ignorant.

Number 1, the incumbency factor, while it tends to favor a candidate for re-election, tend to work against the ruling party when a now popular incumbent is not standing for re-election.

Number 2, APC is the most unpopular political party in Nigeria at the moment, simply due to 8yrs of misrule, confusion and the agony it brought on the Nigerian people.

Thirdly, the candidate of the APC is the most unpopular and disliked presidential candidate in the history of Nigeria.
With 2 strong candidates to checkmate him in the North, 1 strong candidate to blow him off in the SE and SS, and 2 strong candidates to water down his influence in the SW, I am not sure why anyone thinks Tinubu stands a chance to score the percentage of votes allocated to him in this analysis.

And last and most importantly, the analysis tactfully ignored the current earthquake rumbling in the political space. The youths , majority of Nigerians, are clamoring for something different, a different way to govern, and a different set of personality traits that neither the APC nor the PDP is currently offering the voters.
The Peter Obi, phenomenon, if translated into actual votes on February 25th, will surely scatter all previous political maps in Nigeria.

No chance for a Tinubu victory in a fair and free election.

Atiku 's chances are only hinged on the hope of huge block votes of the tribal North, on the assumption that North will go full Tribal on February 25th.
In my opinion, the real contest is between Atiku and Obi.
I suspect that Kwakwanso might pull a trick before February 25th to align with Atiku.

I know Nigerians regularly have perplexing thought processes, but this takes the cake. It makes the "let's try Buhari" in 2015 seem tame.
There is no equivalence to the ' let's try Buhari ' irrationality to the genuine, organically grown clamor for something different, a new way of governance. Buhari was packaged in the same way that 419 craftsmen package their craft to gullible prospects. For that brief moment, we forgot about his 2 previous missionless,
catastrophic journeys in governance .
I do believe that Nigerians have grown a tad wiser now. And that is what is going to make all the difference going forward.

LordAdam16:
You know if the election is rigged, Obi will not win.
When the election is rigged ,no one wins.

LordAdam16:
As far as I'm concerned, Obi is a protest vote. You're voting for him because you are disillusioned by both leading candidates and don't want to sit at home on election day.
I'm not sure how this makes any sense as an argument.

All votes not cast for the ruling party are protest votes by default.
And yes, people cast protest votes out of disillusionment for the ruling party, Duuuh!
And please look around you , from North to South, East to West, the Nigerian people are very very disillusioned with the government and the Rapacious political elites that sit on their collective destinies.
