I listened to the ever-garrulous commissioner of commerce on TV this morning and was asked to comment on embarssing incident that played out in the stadium the day before. He responded that "those who booed the governor were obviously rented". He claimed that the governor had received 'security' reports that a group was planning on booing him at the venue but insisted nothing should be done to prevent them(!!!). I just had to laugh at the sheer silliness of it. ![]() ![]() When asked to explain why the governor, of all people, was not allowed to speak at the really, he merely fumbled and claimed there was no protocol that says a governor must address the crowd. REALLY?? ![]() ![]() ![]() |

ejihand: I quite agree. In fact I understand he was hastily considered mainly because of his deep pockets and Chukwu's alleged refusal to run on the LP platform after the PDP primary fiasco. Nkwegu has zero political experience and may likely be a pawn in the hands of the more powerful and experienced politicians. The point remains that the race will not be a walk over for the PDP. Elechi may taken a beating politically, but it would be a mistake to dismiss him as down and out. The old man still commands considerable influence in the state and though he claims to still be in the PDP, its crystal clear that his body and soul is with the Edon group in LP. |

ejihand: I doubt if you're in the same Ebonyi that I am. Which 87% vote for PDP kwa ![]() I agree almost 100% Ebonyians will vote GEJ, but the same certainly cannot be said for Umahi. The same Umahi that is visibly panicking, running helter skelter, asking Elechi for forgiveness and pleading with the leaders to help rein in the continuous defections to LP? I laugh in Izzi. ![]() Aside his Ohaozara clan, I really wonder where Umahi can really boast of en-bloc support. Nkwegu on the other hand can expect the Afikpo North/South support (on account of PDP's shabby treatment of their son, Prf Chukwu), and of course the massive Izzi, Abakaliki, Ebonyi bloc. HOWEVER, most people I've discussed with have surmised Umahi will probably win at the end of what will likely be a fierce battle. But it will not be because of his popularity. . . . ![]() 4 Likes |

Bigboyz32: You dey mind them. This happened around May last year. No wonder they did not mention anything about the time of incident. Then we heard the man gave up the ghost during the sexx romp, and that it was the girl who even went to report to the station, and then the yeye police came and started arresting students at random. Didn't hear anything about boyfriend appearing on the scene, though. But that presco campus is really becoming too hot. I came across two ladies who were raped there recently by hoodlums, and I'm told its a fairly common occurrence. |

ifeness: Really? fornication galore, and you have more and more children being born to mothers who don't know their fathers. Truss me, it would be wayyyyyyyyyy off what anyone could describe as perfect. |

Some NLers can very irritating. Someone asked a question, which, being a crucial question, he has every right to, so why all the noise from these trolls? Are you aware some of those Google searches redirects to NL? smh ANYWAY, to OP's question, yes at a time it was thought mosquitoes can indeed transmit the virus, and was even alleged to be responsible for the explosion in the prevalence in the early 1990s. The claim has however been laid to rest in the view of compelling evidence: 1. Perhaps the most crucial: Mosquitoes do not inject blood; they only inject their saliva into the skin which prevents the blood from clotting while it is being sucked. 2.The tubes the mosquito uses to inject the saliva and the one used to suck the blood are separate and distinct. So even if the blood is infected, it wouldn't mix with the saliva (which the mosquito injects into the human): 3. Once the virus gets into the mosquito's body, it is rapidly inactivated by its digestive juices, so even if you kill a mosquito on your skin and you notice blood, the chances that that blood contains the virus is very slim. 4. Once a mosquito bites someone and draws blood successfully, it doesn't move over to a next person. It usually looks for somewhere dark and quiet where it can digest the blood. 4. Like others have noted, the mosquito lacks the cells needed for multiplication of the virus. so it cannot survive or reproduce in the mosquito. NOTE: Malaria and other similar parasites are transmitted by mosquitoes because they can survive and multiply in them, and are present in the saliva of the mosquito. 2 Likes 1 Share |

I must I'm shocked at the responses here, especially the advocates of "she said it anger" Whatever happened to the good 'ol fashioned insults?? The fact remains: for her to utter those words CLEARLY crosses the line. No self respecting lady would EVER UTTER THOSE WORDS. She is a unrepentant ashawo. Full stop. |

Pity. The kind of crazy speed you see some of these transporters doing on that stretch, you begin to wonder. I was once doing close to 160km/hr btween Agbor and Asaba, and could you believe as I looked at the rear view, I saw one of these Toyota hiace buses fully laden with passengers flashing its lights and trying to overtake. TF?? That means it must have been doing close to 170!! ![]() ![]() |

dominique: There were about 416 cases as of 2013. If our children are not properly vaccinated, there is a possibility that this figure could rise to well over 100,000 cases in a few years time, and of course the cost by then will be greater than what it is now. IT might interest you to know a lot of criticism similarly trailed the channelling of resources to HIV/AIDS control in the early 2000, especially with the establishment of GHI's PEPFAR. But we are all witnesses to the monster it has become today. (though thankfully progress is being made towards reducing the prevalence.) Then of course the current vaccines being used are more expensive than previous. |
