I ve gone through the Wikipedia page you shared. We hope ICAN will conclude the agreement with them soonest. I once mailed the president of ICAN Canada chapter sometimes around July asking him for available pathways but didn't get a response from him.

I guess I should have said PPR. COPR is the letter. Please correct me if I am wrong.

I have been waiting for the passport request. At a point I thought I got the email and deleted it unknowingly. But God have me the grace to be patient. And it came.

I have a question though. The letter stated that the validity of the visa is dependent on the expiration of my medicals or passport which ever come first. My question is, does this mean that I must travel, and won’t be able to renew/repeat the medicals? Or this option no longer applies?

Your application must have been shipped to London, those guys are known for obeying the 6 months rule(even Canada no dey obey their rule reach them) lol

Yup, u MUST travel, if it expires before u travel have to repeat the process all over.

I don't know if u contact them before expiration of the visa, they may extend validity. No harm in confirming from cic

Saskatoon is just like Regina, but i find it more beautiful than Regina. It's also just 5hrs away from edmonton. Has a moderate nigerian population just like regina, and there is an African shop in saskatoon know for selling cheaper than normal african foodstuffs. Lots of jobs in Saskatoon too. Sask generally has a good employment rate cos people won't move there cos of the cold and conservative people. This is one province where Nigerian students do very well after grad despite being on post study work permit.

Thanks for the response can I have ur email please here is mine ibraelu@yahoo.co.uk

CVE is still the engineering profession with most job opening. I don't know of any other engineering profession that is more marketabke tha mn civil in Canada. There are always openings for construction managers, surveyors, dam engineers, transort engineers and geotechnical. Geotechnical being the most paying specialty.
If i was to study engineering all over again, i would go the civil route. Even in Nigeria, you would rarely find an unemployed civil engineer...

Thanks alot. I really do appreciate the favour.

The webinar for internationally educated accountants will come up Nov 15. Missed the one for Sept. For ACCA it is more straightforward but for ICAN, you will have to write some courses and then pass the CFE (like the multi disciplinary case study).

Wow!! Good to know because I don't want anyone messing with our chances of getting into the system like the way in various places especially in Europe, Nigerians are seen as criminals and crooks. I'm happy they're doing well..

Yes, for a fresh application, there is price difference. ICAP is $245 while Basic is $210. The only difference in terms of features is that ICAP stores the verified transcripts for future use.

However, for our case that needs only upgrade from ECA to course by course, I didn't see the option of ICAP and me I no wan pay twice oo

Kindly advise.

I considered conducting my PhD research in Canada 2yrs ago and after going through the website of the top three unis in Canada, all of my queries were not exactly clarified. I then googled studying for a PhD in Canada, only to find that majority of the reviews advised potential candidates to 'run' while they still had the chance, as studying for a PhD in Canada was akin to committing research suicide. Some of the reasons they gave included the long time it takes to complete an average research degree (more than the stated period) and the most shocking was that the country itself does not value its own PhD; instead, it considered foreign PhDs from other 'developed' countries superior post-graduation. They claimed that it was only advisable for those from 'developing' countries who need the PR.

At the time of my findings 2yrs ago, I wasn't ready for the sacrifice that research required. Presently I am, and I have also started to look into this again. A few weeks ago, I contacted two Canadians by e-mail who had recently graduated from the University of Sussex and Oxford in the UK (the latter is of African descent), and they somewhat reiterated a similar stance to my earlier finding. Btw, University of Sussex is a top school in the ID sector globally. I also spoke to a mentor, who is European but currently works as a director in a popular international development agency in Canada. He also advised against this, although with subtlety and not directly.

The information on this thread about how Canadian education and work experience is fundamental to success in Canada is contrary to everything I have heard, examples of which are highlighted in my post. While I have not read a post on this thread about anyone in the international development sector, I'll appreciate it if those already in Canada could advise me on the general perception of Canadian PhD degrees in the country. Also, what is the international development sector in Canada like generally? My main research area is in the social sciences (Both First and Masters' degrees and I intend to continue in the same faculty), but I doubt that I want to work in academia. UN-type career or a research institute like the overseas development institute is more like what I intend to do post-study.

Thanks.

Hello boss,

With respect to the above.

Completing a PhD degree is 80% the responsibility of the students and 20% bureacracy etc. You can complete your PhD within the stipulated time if 1) your research interests are not ambiguous, 2) you work hand in hand with your supervisor. While it is possible for you to complete within 4 years, it is also possible to go beyond 4 years, but it depends on your results, your supervisor and your university.

The truth is, completing a PhD in every country has its own hurdles and Canada is not left out.

I am sure if you 'googled' "doing phd in other countries", you will also find similar feedbacks.

About Canada not valuing their PhDs, well I cannot say anything about that but my university has lots of canadian phd holders as lecturers and most of them are foreigners.

When it comes to PhD, there is usually 'a no size fits it all' kind of remark.

My advice is go ahead with your PhD application, things are changing in Canada and now is the time.

I hope this helps...

I understand this and to be honest, we are all doing the same this just the way they are doing it is different. This is where the concern comes in. But then another Youtube video I watched stated how the men had bundles of cash, more than one mobile phones, gadgets, and were well dressed. Which also tells a lot about them.

Most of all, my heart goes out to the children. Canada is in for a huge change!!! Population growth, diversity, more businesses ..more!

I dont know much about ICAN, I only know they will waive some exams for you with ICAN. If you have landed,
you need to make enquiries through the CPA in your province. If not it is the CPA BC that handles the conversion (ACCA for sure).

Hey Czaratwork. Did you have to have to send you transcript to CPA BC or do a WES course by course evaluation. I want to finish the certification before LVO let's me go.

Hi - just trying to catch up on the WES/APEGA enquiries. Okay this is my own experience;
- I already had a WES ECA report which I used for EE and all I did was upgrade this to the WES ICAP course by course report. This is what the upgrade is called. If you start from the APEGA website, it will direct you to the WES page to apply for this upgrade. APEGA has a very detailed PDF doc on their webpage that outlines the steps to the WES evaluation they require.
- I had previously outlined the total cost I paid for my evaluation. It was $162.72 CAD which included a $7 delivery to my UK address. If you don't need the additional copy delivered to you then don't go for it. Just ensure you add APEGA as a receipient and pay the $7 delivery to APEGA.
- WES requested a verification of my transcript from my Nigerian Uni (BSc)...even though I had done this before for my 1st ECA report. They didn't ask for my MSc (Uk) to be reverified (or maybe they did - I don't know). It is my understanding that they need not reverify my transcript, but after several calls and emails to WES and they kept saying the same thing "your university has to verify your transcript as this wasnt part of the initial ECA verification" I had to obey (lol) to avoid further delays. Please note that I didn't send any certs or transcripts to them. They already have the certs and all they wanted was the transcript verification.

Now I can't recall which of the ICAP options I chose (but I doubt it's basic) but from the total cost I paid I'm sure you can figure out which of the two it is.

APEGA have now received my documents and are satisfied..meaning I chose the right upgrade option.

I hope this clarifies things?

While the US is firing coal from all cylinders in their coal power plants.

A transcanada pipeline that is meant to carry crude oil from Alberta to the Eastern provinces just got canceled last week too. Na that one pain me pass. It's a $15.7 billion dollar project that would have created 15,000 full time jobs and several thousand part time and casual jobs accross Canada.

Quebec was in strong opposition of the project, yet they receive the most amount in equalization payment.

The Liberal gov full commitments to climate-change policies have created burdens on Oil companies in BC, Alberta and sask, while refineries in Quebec and other eastern provinces keep importing oil from countries such as Venezuela or Saudi. Whereas saudi or venezyela are not imposing greenhouse gas regulations on oil companies in their own country.

It may be correct that the ECA is already ICAP but APEGA needs course by course, ECA is just document evaluation.

So, there is need for the upgrade.
