I am sorry but if you have no work experience in the field you are applying for then the Visa officer might not be convinced that you are a bona fide student and think you are using the study route to migrate to Canada. I am not saying it is impossible just difficult. Why don't you drop your email address and let me contact you. |

DMerciful: Gurus in the house,
Firstly I want to appreciate your effort for the support you have been rendering to folks here....much appreciated.
Please I need help on behalf of a friend. The previous passport he had has a mistake in his date of birth which he did not bother to correct at the time. He also used the passport to travel to Russia and came back. Now in applying for admission to Canada, his transcript carried his real date of birth so he had to correct the date of birth and one of his three names in a new passport at Abuja for 180k . The challenge now is in applying for study permit, he is expected to also attached the old passport which will show a different date of birth as well as having one of his name different. Also because he has applied for US visa with the old passport, it might be misrepresentation to say he has not traveled before to avoid attaching the old passport knowing fully well Canada and US share info.
what do you suggest he do as a way of solution to this problem? thanks in advance. cc: justwise,Qudkom,Austacus, JustMellow, makano,042viber12,frankrobbn1 I am sorry, but he knew the date of birth was wrong and he travelled to Russia and applied for a USA visa with it. Apparently due to the DOB popping up on his transcript he now decided to change his name. That is kinda tricky. On the contrary: 1. He should get a letter from the HQ he changed his name and attach it together with his passport data page when submitting online/paper. 2. Get a sworn affidavit. 3. Omit the transcript*** when submitting the visa application and attach other credentials I.e nysc certificate, bsc certificate, CV etc( Please note that omitting the transcript is a contingency should incase...) I hope other members of this platform will give you the right council. |

JustMellow: Your points are always valid but in addition to the bolded, it can be done whether or not CIC request for it. "Theoretically," on the CIC website, your facts sticks and "practically," my assertion sticks. its just a contribution.
Respect! You are right bro, you can provide information using web form. But in this situation his wife already ticked no for the stated job experience and if they go ahead to submit an additional document then it can be confusing and look made up. |

@Cappymayor @chibertha @yacha77. You are right about the GIC. It is meant for some designated countries like india. The reason I recommended it was because I thought since you guys have temporary residence status in other countries (Sweden UAE) I thought it could be applied. On the contrary you can set aside the living expense in a savings/fixed deposit if you have the means. I believe based on the fact that you want to sponsor yourself that will be a good wqy to proove your financial buoyancy. Dont forgot to also get a Co sponsor.
In addition, A GIC Certificate is matter of fact the best way to show your financial capability to sponsor yourself in Canada. Those Asian students are really fortunate no need for scanning heavy statement of accounts or property. Just pay 10kCAD into a GIC account in a bank in Canada and you will be entitled to 800CAD every month for 12 months. This serves as living expense. By the grace of God will get there one day. |

Felagot: I have a first degree in electrical engineering since 2014, after which I went for nysc the following year 2015. Three years on since, I have been in the UAE working but in quite unrelated field to which I studied. I, in two attempts, couldn't get a masters admission in Canadian university with CGPA 3.4 Now I have admission in energy management for 1year graduate certificate, admission in electrical engineering control system for 3year advanced diploma, a fresh bachelors degree admission in Environmental engineering, and admission for a 2 year advanced diploma fast tract in energy system engineering. All admissions for Fall 2019. Please, good people, I need advice on which one to follow for best study permit/visa chance considering my odd job and study gap. I want to apply from UAE. I got no wife, kid or business firm and am self sponsored. My budget can comfortably take the 1year and two year programs. Hello, all the programs listed show reasonable progression. My advice for you will be: 1. If you have enough funds with you get a GIC (Guaranteed investment certificate) from one of the Canadian banks to pay in your living expenses for 12months. 2. I will advice you go for the 2-year Advanced diploma program. 3. Pay your tuition deposit for a semester. 4. Write a convincing SOP. 5. Lastly, you didn't mention your current job and work experience. 6. Study gap doesn't mean anything(You definitely haven't been idle this past years). Regarding the self sponsor I'll advice you get a co-sponsor. P.s: what's the unrelated field you've been working? |

jey4all: I have Hnd in welding and fabrication engineering. 2. Insufficient funds in sponsors account 3. I applied for construction project management at fanshawe college, 4. I have a student permit here in Sweden. 5. I work part time here in Sweden If you were rejected based on financial reasons only then tackling that shouldn't be difficult. I also dont think you needed to change program. But as long as there Is a reasonable progression in your studies and work experience then you are good to go. I'll also suggest the following: 1. Get a sponsor, no VO will believe you can sponsor yourself as a student in Sweden. 2. If you have a registered company or parent company (Lets say a registered engineering company) then you can use this in your favour and state in your sop you wanna bring back innovative ideas to your company/parent company. 3. Make sure you pay tuition deposit or if possible a full tuition deposit for a whole semester. 4. If you are capable I will advise you contact banks in canada and get a GIC (Guaranteed Investment certificate) to pay your living expenses for a year that way you've cleared the VO's doubt about financial capabilities. 5. You have no issues with travel history so you are good to go. 6. You need a detailed SOP and you need to stay a clear and passionate reason why you need to go over to canada for the program rather than sweden or even in Nigeria. You can state the breakthrough in welding techniques in Canada lead you to the choice, a high demand of highly skilled welders in Nigeria etc. 7. Don't forget to get a sponsor letter and 2-3 property documents. All the best...... |

My wife applied for study visa via paper route, the course she applied for is not in line with her education background. but she has work experience in it. the day she went to drop her application. we forgot the work reference letter at home. [b]The main issue is questionnaire where you are asked whether you have educational or work experience for the course you are applying for and submit a reference letter in regards to work experience? she ticked No because she had no evidence to back her. My question is can she send an email to VAC requesting to add the work reference letter?
ATTENTION HOUSE GURUS Sorry but you can only submit additional documents only when CIC requests them. Besides, you already ticked "No" which can be a little confusing on the part of the VO. I wish you all the best but if she's applying for a program that doesn't correlate with her previous degree/program coupled with you ticking "No" for work experience then that could be an issue. |

If your program starts this fall (September) then do the upfront. Right from time April-june is where cic get the most applications. So to save time and stress go with that. |

yacha77: I had barely 300k in my personal account, 15m in my late father estate account , second sponsor is my brother who is signatory to the estate account , his acct has bout 3m and over 40m ARM investment . Please guru let's analyse this and yes I have ordered gcms immediately. Please check the letter I posted also. Thanks Your denial is simple and also complicated. Using an estate account signifies funds that are available for general upkeep for you and your family. The fact that the funds is also been accessed by third parties aside from you means anything can happen and you might not be able to fund yourself in canada. My advice would be this: 1. You have to pay your 1st semester school fees. 2. Have a substantial amount transferred into a savings account to show the money is readily available. 3. I'll suggest your mum write a compelling letter of sponsor; something emotional probably your late dad (May his soul rest in peace) always wanted you to get the best of education and if he was alive he'd be proud to sponsor you..... I hope you get the drift, this people are human beings like us. 4. Attach a Family picture showing your late dad and his death certificate 5. If you have a family business that's registered you can use it as part of your home ties. If you are going for a management/business or any innovative program then you can add it to your SOP that you want to add innovative ideas to the family business and lift the pressure of your mum etc... and that your dad would be proud. I hope you get more advice from this forum. Good luck. P.S: It is left to you to proove to the VO that there woll not be pressure on your family to sponsor an expensive educational program in Canada. You have to attach proof that your siblings and all are doing well financially and gainfully employed because the VO is skeptical that the pressure might be too much. It is also advisable to have funds in traditional banks that can be easily verified than investment companies. |

Does your uncle have any previous history of sponsoring you? Does your uncle have a family of his own that depend on him financially? How many siblings do you have? Naijaforeigner: You have spoken well.
Let me add, the processing time on the CIC website is average processing time. Each application is unique. Is it normal that an application stays for 1 year, hell NO. Whatever anyone is experiencing in the form of delay, submitting almost 20 documents (which is even outrageous), going through so much stress are mere symptoms. The problem is Nigeria has failed us (bad reputation) and its citizens (I am on this table as well) are not helping matters as well.
Do you know some students arrive Canada and don't go to school? Do you honestly think this will not affect future students when they apply for their visas and ultimately increase wait times?
For those of us in Canada, let us try to be good ambassadors not just for our families but for the sake of our country. Those waiting for their visas should also represent the country well when they arrive so that those coming behind will find it easy to crossover.
God help us. Amen my brother, We need to repair our image.the international community is watching all th activities going on in pur country right from election violence, corruption, unemployment etc and this factors will always have an impact in applications. I know it isn't easy but we can repair our image at least we youth can have an impact. |

makano: Please when did u apply for ur Visa? If your application isnt over 8 months, u dont have any right to say this. I fully support Bracha, Its assif you dont even know how it feels to wait for over 8 months without any communication from those nitwits... If they communicate with us occasionally now, that is different.. They just kept mute for over 8 months without saying a word.. What Bracha wrote is even small, If i have the opportunity of knowing their office, believe you me I will go there and cause a scene, cos what they are doing is blatant rubbish..Application that is suppose to be given a decision within 2 months is taking forever.. God pass them.. Please read what I typed. I am not asking people not to complain I am referring to the choice of words used. You can let them understand how you feel but how you communicate it matters. Let's take a look at the available statistics of the applications rejected last year or the amount of Nigerians that applied for asylum just last year alone. In the last 5 years we've been tarnishing our images maybe there isn't a direct link to people's application getting delayed but when you look at our they treat some Asian applicants it is obvious about what they think about us. Please take a moment to check the new scheme that was established for asian students to reduce the time spent to get a study permit and all. Why didn't they do that for us? I believe you know the answer to that. It is left for us to repair our reputation and go there and prosper, maybe in the next few years we won't need to be going through this mess like "getting affidavit of return", submitting 10 property document, submitting several SOA etc. when some countries have financial institutions that award student loans etc just to prove you are coming back. I checked a particular university I dont want to mention the name, they had scholarship options for American applicants, canadian applicants and even mexican applicants. They had no scholarship options for African students! . So Imagine storming their office or sending a scattering email, how do you think that will be perceived. By the grace of God people in this situation will be favoured and this temporary frustration you feel will become something you joke about in the future. God bless. My wish is to refresh my time line everyday and see trv's getting approved that's the joy and benefit of thjs wonderful platform. |

I just read a very disturbing post about criticising the canadian immigration center for "incompetence and lack of organisation". I know it's extremely painful for an application to be delayed and can derail plans and other life progressions. We need to understand that a visa isn't a right it's a privilege. If you happen to be in this situation you can send them emails every month till you get a favourable response by the grace of God. Lastly, lets not put all our eggs in one basket we can try other countries like Germany, Australia, New Zealand, Ireland etc. and why we are waiting for responses let's try and envlolve ourselves in learning viable skills that van benefit out careers or help us when we finally settle down in our favoured destinations. |
