WIFE SNATCHING: Man Asks Friend To Take His Wife But Return His Kids
May 12, 2009 14:54, 568 views

By Cyriacus Izuekwe
A distraught man, whose wife was snatched by his friend, has asked the friend to keep his wife, but return his children.

Already, the middle-aged man, Daniel Onyekachi, whose wife was snatched, has dragged his friend, Obasi Bartholomew Ogbonaya, to Ejigbo Magistrate’s Court, presided over by Mrs. M. I. Dan-Oni, to seek redress. Obasi, who is not yet married, accommodated Daniel, his wife and four children in his house, but later chased out Daniel and allowed only the wife and kids to stay. This happened after Daniel allegedly discovered that Obasi was sleeping with his wife.

Testifying before the court, Daniel said he packed into Obasi’s flat at 4, Sola Kayode Street, Fayebile Estate, Isheri Oshun, a suburb of Lagos, and that not quite long after, Obasi started sleeping with his wife. He told the court that he got to know about the amorous relationship when the eldest of his children, Victor, informed him that “brother” (the name they call Obasi) was taking their mom out and buying gifts for them.

He said after his son informed him about the relationship, he kept a tab on his wife and the suspect and soon discovered that she was washing Obasi’s clothes, including his underwear. “Soon after this discovery, my wife’s attitude towards me changed,” he added. Daniel said that efforts to make his wife retrace her steps angered Obasi who subsequently threw him out of the house. He said he contacted his wife’s mother who visited them and explained everything to her. This led to an exchange of words in the flat and the defendant threw him out of the house and he slept in the street.

“Since then, he has prevented me from entering the house. I only send feeding money to my wife and children,’’ he said. Daniel said every effort to take back his wife and children was frustrated by Obasi until the defendant’s relatives asked him to report the matter to the police. He reported the matter at the Isheri Oshun police station and when Obasi discovered that Daniel was taking steps to take back his family, he took them to an unknown destination.

“The police intervention failed because he refused to disclose where he kept them. And when I pleaded with him to take my wife and give me back my children, he refused,” Daniel said. Obasi is facing prosecution for abduction. He has pleaded not guilty to the charge and was granted bail in the sum of N200,000 with two sureties. The accused was remanded in the Kirikiri Maximum Prison because none of his relatives could bail him. The matter has been adjourned till 27 May, 2009, for further hearing.

Who give a shi.t about religious differences when two people are in love? Your parents and her parents should hang their heads in shame in my opinion! This is 2009, people need to get a flipping grip.

Dude, if you have the resources, do the marriage without their blessing. Nothing will happen to you.
@ElRazur:Can you listen to yourself talking? is that the best advice you can,,that he should disregard his parents blessings. That is the most stupid thing anybody can do.
@poster: Don't listen to what most people are saying here. What I would advice you is this: At 25, you are still a young man, working in a bank for 2yrs and so what? What you need to do is this, listen to your parents complains and do everything possible you can to convince them you are up to the task and that you could handle the situation.Even if it takes you and ur girl another 2 years that is what you should,,if both of are truly in love, I see no reason why you both can't wait another 2yrs.If you get married with ur parents blessings you are gonna live a miserable life all through ur marriage.Check other threads this topic have been treated several times on Romance and family sections.

only a fool (male or female) would stay with such a partner. if you value life and RESPECT within your union, you should never stay with such a partner, NEVER!!!!
a partner doing such horrible/deadly deed has absolutely NO RESPECT for you or what your relationship stands for.
prittigrrr:
I would vizamp so quickly he would think our marriage had been a dream. I am too precious to throw my life away on a man who doesnt value it.
What about if the Pastor that wedded both of you keeps preaching to you that its for better for worst that you both vowed.Moreso you vowed its till death do you guys apart! Just recently a lady was infected with the HIV AIDS virus becos of her husband reckless attitude, she remained committed to her marriage and husband.
Now a further question is do you have to continue staying put or committed when the other party is not and doing stuff that would be inimical to ur health.

mark my word,by the time Yardua completes his 2nd term, Nigeria would be indebted with over $60Billion,,its just at that time we would start appreciating the fact that OBJ should have ran for 3rd term.In the next 5years,the alternative energy been sought after would to a large extent start taking its effect in the USA,then we would see crude oil price crashing like never b4.Right now in the USA,there are Hybrid cars been manufactured by both Toyota,GM and Honda.

Nigeria In Talks On World Bank Loan To Fund Budget -- Muhtar

Paul Arhewe, Online Editor onlineeditor@independentngonline.com
Nigeria is in early talks with the World Bank on a loan to help finance its budget deficit as plunging oil prices cut government revenue and curb economic growth, Finance Minister Mansur Muhtar said.

The talks are still "exploratory" and there has been no discussion of amounts yet, Muhtar said in an interview in Dakar, Senegal yesterday. The borrowing must be on "concessional terms" to comply with the country's policy to keep debt service costs low, he added.

Revenue from oil, which accounts for 95 percent of government receipts, has slumped after crude prices dropped 58 percent in New York since the beginning of July. Nigeria abandoned a plan last year to sell a global bond of $500 million as international credit markets seized up. The west African nation is now seeking to withdraw $200 million it contributed to the African Development Bank to help plug its funding gap.

"There are continued challenges ahead," Muhtar said. "We have to navigate through these difficulties and look at various ways to generate additional revenues, plug leakages, ensure greater efficiency in spending, and looking forward, how we can diversify our economy."

Muhtar said he will also hold talks with officials from the African Development Bank in Dakar this week during the lender's annual meeting.

On March 24, Muhtar forecast that the budget deficit would reach 3.02 percent of gross domestic product this year. Nigeria's external debt fell to $3.5 billion in 2006 from $36 billion in 2004 after it paid off arrears and the Paris Club of creditor nations wrote off most of their loans.

The economy will probably expand between 5 percent and 6 percent this year, Muhtar said, down from a forecast of 8.9 percent estimated by President Umaru Yar'Adua on Dec. 2. Growth will be supported by the non-oil sector, such as agriculture, Muhtar added.

"There are other estimates that are more cautious, of 3 percent, but we think we can do much better," Muhtar said. "We expect that the non-oil sector will continue to hold up and that has been a major source of growth for the economy."

The African Development Bank expects the economy to expand 4 percent this year, down from an estimated 6.1 percent in 2008.

Standard & Poor's on March 27 cut the outlook on Nigeria's BB-credit rating to 'negative' from 'stable' as oil prices plunged and the government failed to curb spending. Currency controls and a cap on bank deposit and lending rates introduced this year will damage confidence in state institutions and worsen the business environment, S&P said in a report released in Dakar yesterday.

"Na God hand everything dey" attitude is killing us! While the rogues, criminals, rapists and murderers are having field day, we are waiting for God to leave more important things He is dealing with to come save us from ourselves? Why can't we do things ourselves?
* Armed robbers attack and kill - na God hand e day? Why not invest in technology to catch the perps?
* A bus accident kills 100 people - na so God want am? Why not conduct a thorough investigation, identify the causes, enforce laws against drunk driving, repair our dilapidated roads, enforce laws on road-worthiness of cars, ensure that drivers licenses are issued to those who have passed both written and practical driving exams, etc. Disturbing God in far away heaven has not improved our condition.
* Policemen kill 2 civilians because of N20 - the Lord giveth and the Lord taketh? Why not prosecute the criminal in uniform, convict him and sentence him to 20 years in prison?
Every day, Nigerians shout "God", "God", "God"; sometimes those screaming and shouting the loudest are the ones taking Nigeria to hell in a basket barrel!
ol boy richchyblack and Eziachi,,you guys want to kill me laughter!! Both of you are very correct in ur submissiom! That is why you see all these pastors all surrounding the criminal politicians and praying for God's guidance for them to lead Nigeria! How can God guide someone who came into power via massive electoral fraud? someone pls tell me,,Religion remains a very BIG problem in Nigeria!!!!!

PoliticsThugs Attack Governor - Injured Adc Flown Abroad by REALTRUTH1(op): 12:58am On May 11, 2009
Aide-de-Camp (ADC) to Governor Isa Yuguda of Bauchi State, ASP Zakari narrowly escaped death on Friday when political thugs, who had planned to attack the governor at the Dass\Tafawa Balewa LGAs border, injured him.
The incident occurred during the governor’s tour of some parts of the state to commission Millennium Development Goals (MDGs) -sponsored projects and others built by the state government.

The state Commissioner of Police, Atiku Yusuf Kafur confirmed the incident to reporters in his office and added that two persons had been arrested in connection with the fracas.
Sunday Tribune gathered that the incident occurred when the ADC alighted from his car on sighting a machete-wielding youth among other angry youths and called on him to surrender the machete.

However, the youth refused and the ADC ran towards him but tripped and broke his hip bone in the process. The incident occurred between youths of two factions as soon as the governor’s convoy stopped and there was a verbal exchange between the two factions who had become violent when one of the factions belonging to the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) was said to have waylaid the convoy while protesting Governor Isa Yuguda’s defection to the party.

A resident of Dass told Sunday Tribune that they were also angry with the Chairman of Dass local government, Ado Danladi Maigoro who was elected under the platform of the ANPP but had followed the governor to PDP. The aggrieved PDP youths, it was gathered, had been having clashes with the Danladi Maigoro-led faction and the matter came to a head during the tour of Governor Isa Yuguda to commission projects in the area.

However the State Commissioner of Information, Mohammed Abdullahi while reacting to the incident, said it was a minor disagreement between some youths of the PDP and had nothing to do with the defection of Governor Yuguda.

The commissioning which was to continue the next day was postponed as a result of the incident while plans had been concluded to fly the ADC to Germany for treatment as at the time of filing this report.

Governor Yuguda got married to President Umaru Yar’Adua’s daughter earlier in the year and later defected to the PDP from ANPP.

Maybe if we start marrying ppl for the right reasons . . .maybe, just maybe the divorce rate will reduce undecided
What is ur definition of getting married for the right reason? My defenition for getting for the right reason is when both parties applied their HEAD in the relationship b4 they say I DO,,,that is my defenition,,,when one party is trying to be desperate, pity and being pitied then something is not right,,Most people that got married for the WRONG reasons are those who tells you LOVE comes b4 you use HEAD,,,Its ur HEAD and MIND that would tell you don't get married to an HIV carrier except you are one!,,its ur Head that would tell don't go get married if you do not have the means to carry the responsibilities attached to it,,,its ur Head that would tell you both parties needs to define their Dos and Don'ts,,,
Your Head needs to tell you if you are girl and you don't like Igbo(Indian Hemp),,,and somebody who claims to LOVE you indulges in that and does not wanna let go,,,,,ur Head should tell you,,,thats the right reason to me,,,The wrong reason would over look it and calls it LOVE and after marriage the guy starts giving her the stress of her life!!
Most people in Nigeria gets married as a result of frustration and desperation,,,"They are the I just want to marry anybody jare" But marriage should not be like that!!!

Globally, the major reason or cause for divorce is money,,and its never the problem of the west its been from time immemorial! Its just that Nigerian women re just realising that there is need for certain level of dignity in a relationship or marriage.Someone pls tell me if U re a lady married to a man whom you have severally caught with prostitute and each time he apologises when caught,,but there seems not to be an end to this attitude of ur husband,,,also you don't wanna die of AIDS,,,what would you do?I may just start a thread on this topic!!

What followers of these pastors or prophets should tell their Leaders is that such prophesy is ridiculing christianity,,,and they should always watchout because people are watching and observing.

Where in the world do people feel most content with their lives?
According to a new report released by the Organization for Economic Co-Operation and Development, a Paris-based group of 30 countries with democratic governments that provides economic and social statistics and data, happiness levels are highest in northern European countries.

In Depth: See All 10 of the World's Happiest Places

Denmark, Finland and the Netherlands rated at the top of the list, ranking first, second and third, respectively. Outside Europe, New Zealand and Canada landed at Nos. 8 and 6, respectively. The United States did not crack the top 10. Switzerland placed seventh and Belgium placed tenth.

The report looked at subjective well-being, defined as life satisfaction. Did people feel like their lives were dominated by positive experiences and feelings, or negative ones?

To answer that question, the OECD used data from a Gallup World Poll conducted in 140 countries around the world last year. The poll asked respondents whether they had experienced six different forms of positive or negative feelings within the last day.

Some sample questions: Did you enjoy something you did yesterday? Were you proud of something you did yesterday? Did you learn something yesterday? Were you treated with respect yesterday? In each country, a representative sample of no more than 1,000 people, age 15 or older, were surveyed. The poll was scored numerically on a scale of 1-100. The average score was 62.4.

Why did the northern European countries come out looking so good? Overall economic health played a powerful role, says Simon Chapple, senior economist from the Social Policy Division of the OECD, which put together the report.

While the global economic crisis has taken a toll on every nation, the countries that scored at the top still boast some of the highest gross domestic product per capita in the world. Denmark, which got the highest score, is not only a wealthy country, it's also highly productive, with a 2009 GDP per capita of $68,000, according to the International Monetary Fund. The United States' GDP per capita, by contrast, is $47,335. Though the U.S. got an above-average score of 74, it did not break the top 10.

Wealth alone does not bring the greatest degree of happiness. Norway has the highest GDP per capita on the list — $98,822 — yet it ranked ninth, not first. On the other hand, New Zealand's happiness level is 76.7 out of 100 on the OECD list, but its 2009 GDP per capita is just $30,556.

According to a 2005 editorial, published in the British Medical Journal and written by Dr. Tony Delamothe, research done in Mexico, Ghana, Sweden, the U.S. and the U.K. shows that individuals typically get richer during their lifetimes, but not happier. It is family, social and community networks that bring joy to one's life, according to Delamothe.

The OECD data shows that another important factor is work-life balance. While Scandinavian countries boast a high GDP per capita, the average workweek in that part of the world is no more than 37 hours. In China, which got a low score of just 14.8, the workweek is 47 hours and the GDP per capita is just $3,600.

Low unemployment also contributes to happiness. "One thing we know for sure," says the OECD's Chapple, "not having a job makes one substantially less satisfied." Denmark's unemployment rate is just 2 percent, according the C.I.A.'s World Factbook. Norway's is just 2.6 percent. The Netherlands: just 4.5 percent. Many economists concur that a 4 percent unemployment rate reflects a stable economy. The U.S. unemployment rate is currently 9 percent.

Odibo was not the only speechless person at Christ the King Catholic Church, Ilasamaja, Lagos, where the ceremony held penultimate Saturday, May 2. The congregation that gathered to witness the holy solemnisation were stunned as Bob declared his love for Blessing who was on a wheelchair. ”This is true love,” declared a pregnant woman in the congregation. ”How many men can marry a woman on a wheelchair? Even girls that can walk are looking for husbands,” said another.

The bride was full of smiles as she exchanged marital vows with the man she had known since childhood. Grinning from ear to ear, the couple, who met 15 years ago, told everyone that cared to listen that they were together forever.

Going down memory lane, Blessing, 33, a manager with Crusader Insurance Plc said that no challenge could surmount the love she had for her husband, ”We met when I was very little; about 15 years ago. He saw me and fell in love but I didn‘t know. As I became older, I noticed that he was always coming to our house to play with me at Mbaise, Imo State. This went on for a while but I did not know what was on his mind.”

There was, however, a long pause in their relationship when Bob travelled out of the country to acquire more education. But this was not enough to deter him from pursuing the woman whom he fondly called ‘sweetheart.‘

Blessing, a chartered accountant, said, ”After a while, he travelled out of the country and we lost contact for seven years. In August 2006, my phone rang and he was the one on the line. We chatted and he asked me if I was married. I told him I was single, and that was how it all started. He told me what he had in mind right from when I was little. He said I was a small child then and he did not want to spoil me. He was actually waiting for me to come of age before letting his intentions known.”

Apart from his love for her, the bride told SUNDAY PUNCH that she was attracted to her husband because of his looks, ”He is a man of God; he‘s a man that fears God. He‘s also sincere and handsome. Those were the things that attracted him to me.”

The 32-year-old groom was not going to be outshined as he told his part of their love story. ”She was a little girl in the village when I met her. She was very pretty. Anyone who saw her liked her and came around her. I fell in love with her the first day I set my eyes on her. She‘s a wonderful girl.”

The admiration and love the couple shared was evident in their eyes. Guests at the ceremony were, however, baffled at the way the groom’s family showered the bride with affection despite her physical challenge. They hugged and kissed her at the slightest opportunity. According to Bob, his family raised no objection when he took his bride home, ”I‘m not aware of any objection. If anyone had any reservation, they did not voice it out.” Blessing nodded in agreement, ”I did not experience any stigma from his family. They love me and I love them too.”

If you think a great job, good education and a handsome man is all that Blessing has going for her, then wait till you read this: she also drives a car. There‘s absolutely no stopping the lady who has a Masters in Business Administration degree from the Ladoke Akintola University, Ogbomosho, Oyo State. No doubt, she‘s encountered difficulties, especially in a society that does not think highly of physically challenged individuals. But she has trudged on despite the polio attack she had as a child, she said: ”When I was in primary school, other children used to laugh at me. When I wanted to start my education, my parents were discouraged but I was determined to go to school. I told myself that even if they laughed at me for months or years, they would leave me alone and that was what happened. Fortunately I was always the best student in class. So, instead of laughing at me, they were always coming around me to teach them one thing or the other.

”I went to Amumara Community School for my primary school education and Amumara Secondary School, Mbaise, Imo State. I also attended the Federal Polytechnic, Afikpo for an Ordinary National Dipolma. I also have a Higher National Diploma. I‘m a charted accountant and I have an MBA from the Ladoke Akintola University.

”When I see physically challenged people, especially those that beg on the road, I try to encourage them. I remember when I was driving along the Iyana Isolo Bridge, Lagos, I saw a disabled man, who was an agbero (tout). When he saw me, he said ‘mama, settle us.‘ I called him and talked to him. He told me to call him regularly to encourage him. Since then, I‘ve not seen him at the bus-stop.”

When the couple was asked the number of children they would like to have. Bob said, ”She‘s not a baby making factory, four would be perfect.” His wife added, ”He‘s always teasing me that he wants 12 children but I want three.”

Blessing was thankful to friends who supported her. She singled out the Mobility Aid and Appliances Research and Development Centre, ”I‘ve known MAARDEC for years. I got to know them when my wheelchair was giving me problems; somebody recommended them to me that they could fix my chair. I fell in love with them and became a volunteer in their accounting unit.”

The president of the organisation, Cosmas Okoli , said the bride was a success story, ”She epitomises the contributions of our empowerment of persons with disabilities. Today, she is a chartered accountant, totally independent and drives herself. Her marriage is therefore another milestone in the attainment of our mission statement, which is: to empower persons with disabilities through the provision of innovative, affordable mobility aids, appliances and complementary services to ensure that they are socially, economically and politically relevant in the society.”

Poor girl. I see you've found it very tough out there. You're now rationalizing. Anyway, anyone who says love is not important, has never been in love before. For you, i can see that is the case.
You are making a mistake man!! Am a guy and not a girl! I have been in what you call LOVE b4 and have seen many ladies saying that word LOVE to me,,,but they have to capture my dreams for it to be reciprocated.Your info: am now married to someone that exceeds my expectations,,and that is because I have been preparing myself for this kind of relationship.many people in a relationship or marriage today don't have any business being it! If you study for 4years to get a degree at University ,why do you think you don't have to study and get yourself prepared for the right kind of girl or guy?If you want something good,,you have to be good as well,,,You can't be a lazy man or an illiterate man and hoping and praying for LOVE marriage to a lady well educate, intelligent and smart.Likewise a lady who refuses to develop her self praying for the word LOVE in a man who will come and help her solve her problem and that of her family.
Now one simple question is this,,,what is LOVE within the context of marriage? Do you say U LOVE someone when you are actually take advantage over the other party??My quest is this: Give LOVE(as in what you call Marriage love) to those who deserves and earn it!I can categorically tell you that you re probably in LUST relationship and not LOVE.

Until you are capable of defining what LOVE is and what arranged marriage is,,then you lack the competence to contribute on this topic. The word LOVE is a relative term! To different people and at different scenerio or situations,,,,certain factors inspires love,,what inspires love for Mr A is different from what inspires love for Mr B.
If an (so called arranged marriage) captures who inspires love to Mr A,, I see no reason why he should not jump at it.In the real sense of things, almost all marriages are arranged from the beginning of the world! The wife or husband you are married is either connected to you via networking.
In the past our grand parents normally pick who guys should get married too,,,and in those days such marriages had solid foundations and lasted even much longer than the ones today.
What most people call LOVE today is nothing but lust, deception, fraud and manipulation! That is why when it comes to marriage, I tell everyone who cares to listen that the first thing to do is to use ur HEAD,,,there is no pity in marriage! A girl or guy should not get married to a girl or a guy because he/she told him/her that he/she LOVES him/her.Marriage is a seriuos business and it amazes me how people just don't take it serious.Every man or woman should have dreams, aspirations and passions, if you can't get someone to fit into such desires then get one you can develop or nurture to that standard. And if its not working out while dating,,,you don't have to deceive urself by lying to the word LOVE,,,People need to understand that no man or any woman is particularly meant for any man or woman. Also there is that need to appreciate the fact that a broken relationship is better than a broken marriage,,
Therefore, I prefer an arranged marriage that would inspire or ignite my LOVE,,,

A quick search shows there is already two threads on this in the sports section. How hard is it to post this in the right section? Or perhaps do a search? If you do not want to be called stupid, please do not act like one. smiley
You know what? Am too matured to get involved in discussion with ur kind of person, sleek_p above just gave a clue of what manner of person you are,,but I think somebody else would give a more vivid description of I think you are! I have an idea of what manner of personality traits you are exhibiting but it just would'nt be me that would tell you cos ve gone past that stage in life. The fact that you sit behind the computer does not make you not to have a control over ur choice of words,,,you would get to a point soon when you would be called exactly what you are!
