Politics › Re: How Can We Hold Credible Elections In Nigeria? by REALTRUTH1: 1:51pm On Apr 27, 2009
mikeansy:
Every Nigerian needs to get Civilised first. We are not civilised.

See what happened in South Africa or Ghana will never happen in Nigeria in the next 50years.

In South Africa Thabo Mbeki stepped down merely because he was accused of meddling with Judicial affairs.
Jacob Zuma who was already the party leader and President did not hastily rush into power but rather waited to be voted in.
Molanthe who took over power in Interim Capacity did not even try to form his own party to challenge Zuma his party's choice.
And when the election was held freely and fairly, Zuma won fair and square.

Can any of this civility happen in Nigeria? Mbeki will not certainly step down in Nigeria, Jacob Zuma will not dream of postponing his opportunity to assume power for the sake of any Election, Molanthe would have certainly reformed the ANC or formed a new party in other to remain in power and the election that brought Zuma to power won't certainly be free and fair.

Or are we talking about Ghana where Gerry Rawlings deputy lost elections to then opposition candidate John Kuffor, and then John Kuffor's deputy and prefered candidate lost the primary election to Nana Akuffo Ado. And then Nana Akuffor Ado who is in the President's party and who President Kuffor voted at the general election lost to the opposition candidate Prof. Atta-Mills.

Will any of these civility be shown in Nigeria?

If anybody tells you Nigeria is giant of Africa tell them to wake up from sleep . . . . . the world is moving beyond us.
Guy I think you have finally summed it up! I wish this is published on the pages of Newspapers for all Nigerians to have a sober reflection. If we can't have the American democracy,,,can we at least learn or copy from our brothers and neighbors such as Ghana and South Africa?

@Tombola: I had said before that you re just a lousy personality! If can not get involved in an intelligent discussion why forcing youself and making baseless and insensitive assertions?
You do not love Nigeria more than any other contributor here,,Nigeria is our country that is something or a fact we cannot change! The fact that somebody criticise or condemned some of the happenings in Nigeria does not mean such person hates Nigeria. If you want to solve a problem, the first thing to do is accept there is a problem by Identifying with that problem in order for you to profer a solution to such problem.
For a country with little or no power supply how can there health facility not be the worst in the world?Until the death of the coach that won the last under 17 world cup for Nigeria,,,LUTH had just one life saving machine,,,the life saving machine was on another patient while the coach was admitted on emergency,,they took off the machine from that patient in order to resuscitate the coach,,,that patient died eventually so does the coach. How do you describe such scenerio? In thesame LUTH,,where female Doctors & Nurses were been raped until recently because of power supply issue that makes the hospital so dark at night,,You know what? its a very stupid and unpatriotic thing to do if you keep defend issues like this all in the name that ,,,am a true Nigerian!who is a fake Nigerian?

And I'm not saying this because I know somebody who knows somebody who knows somebody who knows somebody's mother's sister's bestfriend's sister's aunty's uncle. I am saying this because this directly affects me, unfortunately it took the death of a person for the truth to be realised by the other.

@father ab

not all marriages are recognised by God. For example, a person who divorces and marries another is not considered married to the second partner by God. Because God doesn't recognise divorces. To him you are married to the first person.
Now if the marriage is annulled and the people involved marries it is recognised by God.

And for a marriage to be recognised, certain things have to be met.
for example Both partners have to give their consent. In this situation the woman did not give their consent. Your pastor reacted that way because he himself doesn't know what constitutes a marriage, and he was wrong for blaming the girl. What nonsense? The pastor was hiding his own flaws.[/quote]Please tell me what is the difference btw an annuled marriage and divorce? Also for your education check up 1st Corinthians Chapter 7 verses 15,,,

@wendy80: When you begin to say don;t judge that is the beginning of making God out of these so called men of God.Otherwise, why did the predict that in the last days there would be false prophets doing wonders in God's name?Or why was it in those days in the Bible,,the Barean Christians after they ve been taught,,they would still need to go back to scripture and find out if what they have been taught is either true or lies.As Christians you have to be very vigilant,,the fact that someone is titled man of God does not make him a super man.In his best form,,he's still human! The more reason the Bible says teachers of God's word would even face more judgement than anyone else.
Because Nigeria is filled with religious bigots that was why we had jesus of oyingbo,Revd Dr. King etc,,,,,,
If I may asnwer the poster question,,,,I have very great respect for pastor Tunde Bakare and Kumuyi!,,,and whoever wants to grow having a balanced relationship with God,,,,,I recommend these men,,,,they re both not perfect but they re both highly recommended,,,,
Crime › Heartless Robbers Rape Woman, Three Daughters; Still Steal Their Valuables by REALTRUTH1(op): 2:28am On Apr 24, 2009
Armed robbers have raped a 51-year-old woman and her three daughters in Badagry. P.M.NEWS learnt, last night, that the four robbers had scaled the fence of their home, stripped them of money and valuables, and then had sex with them.
In a recount of their ordeal, the woman told P.M.NEWS that: “This house belongs to my late husband and I operate a supermarket store in the front. I want to recount a bad incident to you and it will continue to be in my memory and that of my daughters; even if we didn’t curse these robbers they have already placed a generation curse on their heads and that of their children if they have any.
“They came shouting on top of their voices that we should open the steel door that leads to the sitting room and bedrooms after scaling the fence. “Our security guard has been sick for sometime. So there was no guard to ward off the robbers. “When I refused to answer them, they shot into the air and I quickly flung the door of the place open and they got inside. “They requested for money and I gave them the N673,000 sent to me by a cousin in Dublin. They also collected my wedding ring, wristwatches and mobile phones.
“Having collected all these, one of them just started handling my daughter’s breasts and as she protested, she was slapped several times. Later another one said ‘these people fine well, well’. And before we knew it they told us to pull off our clothes and when I asked ‘why?’ they said they wanted to have sex with us. “I immediately went on my knees pleading and yet they did it with us, even with me that was menstruating, without using condoms.”
One of the woman’s 22-year-old daughter (names withheld), who was also raped, said: “I am an undergraduate in a northern university. I was in my sleeping dress and normally any time I go to sleep, I do not wear my bra and pant. So when the robbers came, after picking all they needed, one of these bastards started playing with my breasts and as I pushed him away he slapped me, and at gun point, they had sex with me while others made love to my mom and two of my younger sisters right in the same place. “I have not been feeling fine since this incident happened.”
One of the other two raped teenagers, aged 19 and 15, said: “We just pray that we won’t contract AIDS from these useless, devilish robbers”. The robbers escaped after the operation with the loot. The police in Badagry said the incident is being investigated.

georgecso,

None of the countries you mentioned has uninterrupted power supply!!!

Our expectations are truly flabagasting!! I dont envy the leaders of Nigeria - they are damned if they do and damned if they dont. Nigeria will still be a poor country even if we have zero - corruption. Why? Our industrial output is zero, our GDP per head is shameful, with the exception of god-given oil we have not created anything that the world wants to buy, we have only one or two world class enterpreneurs, we dont have any brand of product or offering that the world can identify with Nigeria, we are at the moment nothing but 10s of millions of lazy, complaining, government-blaming, superstitious, non-tax paying, pastor-imam-pope worshiping 'waiting for jesus' MORONS. Look at the way the vast majority of our people live? Waiting for the government to come and clean their toilets, sweep their dirty compounds, stop them from sleeping with their reproductively irresponsible females - making babies they have not the faintest idea how to bring up and jacking up world poverty and misery in the process. YES you!!! I am talking to each one of you!!! And i am one of you - a full blooded proud Nigerian but lets call a spade a spade (meaning tell each other the truth). Our government just dont make the kind of money necessary to support our lofty and incredulous expectations. We are yet to work our way out of poverty. That is what it will take - hard graft for a very very long time.
I wouldnt go near a gasoline pipeline with other 'brain dead' zombies thinking I am about to make a fast buck.

The truth is that the manner this Jet issue is been handled shows that something is not right about this transanction,,,and each attempt to cover it up creates further questions about it.

I said immediately they came out with the fresh facts by thisday,,,that multiple facts would continue to emerge on this jet issue. The very best that can be done is for the church and Pastor Adeboye to come out and make a categorical statement as regards this issue. We cannot all be fools,,,I do have respect for Adeboye but then I believe he is human and prone to making mistake.
If PM News have reported on this issue about a year ago and it materialises just one year after the report,,you simply can't doubt the PM news report. My thinking is that if the church does not come out to make a clear statement about this,,,then the RCCG has got something to hide,,,if you make mistakes,,the best thing to do is to apologise appropriately,,that would make you to earn back your respect from the people,,,,but if you keep covering by different schemings,,,then something is not right and your respect would be far gone and thrown away,,,,

Whenever I hear people making uterances like above,,one thing comes to my mind,,,they can't see beyond their nose!If you re claiming its your life,,what about when the person in question as a little boy the parents refused to give him adequate support, training and development, would he attract the repented prostitute? The prostitute can only marry the man cos he can take care of her.Its a most stupid and senseless thing to say that ur family or parents don't have a contribution to make in ur choice of marriage.
I don't have a problem with a repented prostitute,,cos one way or the other we all would sinned,,,but I would suggest the guy in question MUST do everything possible to convince his parents and family members.People who go ahead and get married without considering their family inputs gets to regret big time,,,,go and ask anybody you know who did it.
Politics › Nigerians Among 300 Migrants Drowned In Libya by REALTRUTH1(op): 1:20am On Apr 01, 2009
More than 300 Europe-bound African migrants reportedly comprising Nigerians and nationals of other African countries were feared dead after their boats capsized off the coast of Libya.
A report by the Reuters and the British Broadcasting Corporation on Tuesday quoted the spokesman of the International Organisation for Migration, Mr. Jean –Philippe Chauzy, as saying that up to three vessels lacking lifeboats were believed to have sunk off Libya in heavy winds as they headed for Italy, while a fourth boat in difficulty was towed to shore.
“Up to three boats appear to have sunk off the Libyan coast. These boats have no life-saving material on board. It would seem that more than 300 people have disappeared at sea,” Chauzy told Reuters in Geneva.
“They were not at swimming distance from shore,” he said. The IOM was not aware of any survivors aboard the three boats.
The boats sank near oil platforms, but the exact timing of the incidents was not clear. Laurence Hart, head of the IOM’s programme for migrants in Tripoli, reported that Libyan authorities had confirmed a “tragedy”.
In Tripoli, Libyan officials said late on Monday that two boats carrying African migrants to Italy had sunk off Libya in separate incidents over the past two days, killing at least 21 people and leaving hundreds missing.
The BBC report in Tripoli said among the dead was an African woman found lifelessly clutching an infant to her bosom.
There are an estimated one million African irregular migrants in Libya, drawn by the need for unskilled labour according to the IOM. Most come from West Africa, including Mali, Burkina Faso, Ghana, Niger, Nigeria and Cote d’Ivoire, or from Horn of Africa countries led by Somalia and Ethiopia.
Chauzy added, “An unknown percentage of them continue their migratory voyage towards Europe. They save their money in Libya to pay off networks of traffickers,” Chauzy said.
“These people must have been heading to Lampedusa,” referring to the Italian island where 37,000 migrants arrived last year, most after setting off from the Libyan coast.
Hundreds of migrants have died in the last few months crossing the Mediterranean Sea from North Africa to Europe, and the Gulf of Aden from Somalia to Yemen.
They are at the mercy of unscrupulous smugglers, unseaworthy vessels and the elements but many take these risks for the lure of a better life.
The smuggling season normally stops in October, and resumes again in April.
But the IOM says there has been no lull this year and the smuggling boats have been sailing right through the winter.

Christianity Etc › In Defence Of Pastor Adeboye by REALTRUTH1(op): 12:41am On Apr 01, 2009
SIR: Ebenezer Obadare's "Pastor Adeboye's Private jet (The Guardian, March 25, 2009 refers. It is pathetic to see the level of ignorance exhibited in the said write-up.
The writer claimed that "pastors, imams and general overseers should act as a balm to their followers through sound preaching," but in what ways can someone whose travelling is so frequent reach his members effectively in the entire world without his own private jet? To compare someone whose assignment is locally based with an international pastor is unjustifiable and illogical.
All of us cannot be mere local champions. Besides, the principle of efficient allocation of resources allows that cheaper means be adopted to achieve economic goals.
We need to be careful in casting aspersions on the integrity of others. To have claimed that "these men of God constantly failed to meet minimum moral standard" is to pass unjust verdict on them. Afterall, the Bible admonishes us not to judge anything before the time. Let the God who they serve judge them by Himself.
The subject of giving in the church is so misunderstood by the writer or how could he claim that dues and frivolous levies are demanded by the church? God owns everything and if we withhold what we could give to Him, He is in no way poorer or richer if we give to Him. Each man is expected to give according to his volition not by compulsion. Tithe is statutory and it belongs to God. What can we say is frivolous in what God has commanded?
Again, the writer's gullibility is extremely displayed when he spoke of hell fire as imaginary. Christians, Moslems and traditionalists believe that hell fire exists. The writer also confuses former. History has enough lessons on this. Let us go back to history.

In conclusion, let each of us be guided by our convictions and not be hasty in passing judgment.

God alone is the sole judge.

@Kunleosho: you re very correct,,however does it mean this would continue in perpetualty becos even lay man and none-christians can easily fault these pastors nowadays.Going by this quote of urs 2 Peter 2:1-3:
1 But there were also false prophets in Israel, just as there will be false teachers among you. They will cleverly teach destructive heresies and even deny the Master who bought them. In this way, they will bring sudden destruction on themselves. 2 Many will follow their evil teaching and shameful immorality. And because of these teachers, the way of truth will be slandered. 3 In their greed they will make up clever lies to get hold of your money. But God condemned them long ago, and their destruction will not be delayed.
money and materialism has become the measure to determine who a man of God is in Nigeria,,the many followers are not even born-again as they profess and these pastors care less.Infact just last one pastor Abiara in Ibadan was interviewed and he said Alao Akala is God fearing man and from another source he was referred to as a Deacon in the church.Things like these don't happen in the days of John the Baptist,,

Abuja-GENERAL Superintendent of the Deeper Christian Life Ministry, Pastor William Kumuyi, has warned Christian workers against perverting the word of God as, according to him, God does not use ministers that distort His word. Speaking at the Ministers’ Conference at Gwagwalada, Abuja, yesterday, Kumuyi said that God is seeking holy Christian workers in whom to deposit the power of the Holy Ghost for the end-time harvest but insisted that pastors and ministers who abandoned the standard of God’s righteousness cannot be used for the kingdom work.
How can we know amongst the many pastors and men of God in Nigeria,,,who is actually perverting God's word. With the highlihted statement above,,Kumuyi tends to generally implied that God's words has been distorted for personal gains,,,at what point in time can we say some of these men of God have distorted God's word by taking advantage of the gullible amongst us, Pleaes people of God your contributions re highly need.

He urged participants at the inter-denominational gathering to yield themselves completely to the will and service of God who is capable of turning them to great instruments for the propagation of the gospel.

According to him, God turned Peter into a fisher of men from a fisherman; changed Paul from being a persecutor to a propagator of the gospel of Christ, noting that God has the wherewithal to turn them into great ministers who will be sources of blessings to their various congregations.

He admonished the ministers to be firm in their resolve to serve the Lord, in spite of challenges of their environments, stressing, “when God sends His workers to difficult people and places, they should just obey and go because He goes with them.”

In his remarks, the chairman of the Pentecostal Fellowship of Nigeria (PFN), Gwagwalada branch, Pastor Alfred A.Omuta, urged preachers of the gospel to consistently seek the face of the Lord to grow in grace and in the knowledge of his word.

Taking his text from 2Peter3:18, the clergyman explained that God’s grace helps believers to be spiritual, becoming more like Christ in all things as well as increase in every good work.

Yesterday’s meeting was part of the PFN-organised Abuja Power Crusade of Kumuyi which started in Nyanya on March 24 and will terminate on April 3 at the Eagle Square.

@biina: God bless you man,,and His grace and mercies shall continue to abound in your life,,,I have gone through all your posts on this issue,,though there others who have given very useful contribution but I think you have put a balanced for only those with discerning spirits that corrolates with intelligence would understand.Once again God bless you and the likes of Kunlesho!!
In the US,,men of God like Benny Hinn and Joel Ostein had been made by their church members to retract statements initially made to the public that were controversial agaisnt the Bible,,,they came out in the public and news to apologise and correct the error and they admitted that they were Humans notwithstanding their being Pastors.Recently too,,Barack Obama pastor for 20 years during Obama campaign made statements that were inimical to Obama's aspiration,,,as result of that, the pastor was fired and a new pastor employed,,ultimately that made Obama and the family resigned from the church.Revd.Jesse Jackson, during Obama campaigns too,,made a statement that was of jealousy and inimical to Obama's aspiration,,at the end Jesse Jackson and his son had to apologise to that effect in the public.
Now you wanna wonder why these men of God above are kept under check in US??the reason is that in the US,,,they have had many pastors who had used religion to manipulate peoples life and subsequently murdered hundreds of people in the name of our Lord Jesus Christ.Agood example is Revd Jimi Jones saga where almost 1000 people were murdered in just one day.
However, in Nigeria, am so marvel to note that we assume our pastors re perfect and they make no mistakes,,,that is not true they human and particularly prone to making errors and mistakes. One other thing that baffles me is that RCCG have kept quite over this saga and to me that is not right and it sparks a lot questioning and doubts from the world the church want to reach out to.And many of the contributors in favor of RCCG who are members of the church have not shown any sign of what the preach,,how can you be calling someone a fool because the person does not hold thesame view with you?or why would you wish someone death because he sees something wrong with your church which you don't see.
What RCCG members should know is that ,,,whenever they are being criticised,,they should not bother with the fact that the person critic ising is their enemy ,rather they should bother themselves with if what they re been criticised about is true or false.

@Poster: The question should have further captured those who attemted to bring change in Nigeria,,,what has been their gains?Gani Fawehinmi tried Nigeria gave him Hypertension and cancer.MKO Abiola tried,he was killed,,Ken Sarowiwa tried and he was killed,,,a young man who was a world bank consultant in the US,,,came back to Naija to effect change in Ekiti,,he was assasinated by the people,,,the list goes on and on,,,,even my humble self have tried and given up because Nigerians(populace) are the very problem with the country and not necessary the elites or political class.
Nigeria is a country that is designed to fail from the very inception of the country,,the system is fundamentaly messed up politically, spiritually and otherwise. It is a faulty union from inception and that is the reason why almost nothing seems to be working, I sincerely and humbly wait to see or to hear what you the poster have or willing to do for Nigeria.
