Just be independent, professional and just in the service of Nigerians. That is all. Not the ones that are leaving that handed over the keys to the family silver to the President who promptly bankrupted Nigeria for the sake of Contractor friends and family. PS: They are still issuing out gargantuan contracts even on the eve of their departure... to show where their interests have laid ever since. |
Tareq1105:If a view or position is considered insulting or condescending to one on any form of media, even on live interviews, the right and noble thing to do is to ignore such. That is the dignified stand of a public servant. If such views are libelous by all means threaten to take action. But it is self immolating to descend into raw rancour with nameless people on the city streets or the lanes of social media. It is a fight with only one outcome, and the man or woman of responsibility will always be dragged low. If the fellow had decided to take it further, knowing he has all day and night to do so, what will she do. Will she abandon her responsibilities and 'cock fight' with him.....? |
It appears this will be the standard pattern of this administration going forward. Every critic will be politically and perhaps ethnically profiled. This is an adverse and progressively worse situation than the unofficial crusade to destroy all political opposition we have seen over the course of the outgoing administration. I simply cannot understand why a public servant cannot take criticism with decorum over his or her official (not personal) duties if such a person is indeed serving particularly when it concerns issue of critical public interest and concern. Standards are indeed falling everywhere you look. Perhaps such positions should be reserved for those trained in diplomacy in the future. |
All this is not necessary. Bar the various court cases I think Nigerians should focus their energies in the preparation for governance. The citizenry has an important role in ensuring this democracy works for their good no matter what government is at the wheel. And the fact that the coming one will operate on an unpopular mandate (more people voted against it than for it even with all the flaws) makes the balance of power decidedly in favour of the citizenry as to policies, programs and actions.....if and only if energies and mentality is focused on deliverables. I know it is difficult for Nigerians to discard the 'who' for the 'what', the personalities for the institutions because we Africans are cultured around feudalism, but in a democracy there are no ultimate winners or losers. Just as there is no bad position to be as a piston in an engine. You vent for a bit, push for a bit and get fired for a bit. No position is permanent or the engine will stall. The man who is elected today is at maximum popularity and minimum stress. That currency will slowly but surely ebb away in the weeks and months after inauguration due to the realities of governance while the opposition will become increasingly popular. It is just the nature of the system called democracy. |
They get there peddling sentiment and leave office peddling sentiment as their only significant legacy. This is the epilogue of the tale of the 'personalisation' of government. Why apologise to the people if you were truly elected by them and did their bidding while empowered to. Proofs that one of either or both are simply not true. |
MikkySexy23:Indeed. Corruption erodes vision and without vision there cannot be meaningful accomplishment. But corruption thrives where there are no settled social values, i.e a people collectively agreeing what is right or wrong, unlawful or unlawful. So the people have to sit down around a table to agree on this. And the process of sitting down to agree is called restructuring. The typical American or Briton or German or Chinese or Saudi Arabian can easily agree with his neighbor that what is white is white and what is black is black. Not so the typical Nigerian. That is where the problem starts. With the Nigerian. Without shared values society just cannot consolidate no matter the quality of leadership. That is why you often hear. 'Oh Mr. President is a great and noble man.... it is the 'people' around him...' Well how do you lead without 'people around you...' |
Restructure Nigeria first to consolidate social values. Social values will establish the rule of law. With the rule of law prosperity will naturally come..... And then things will begin to look like that. Without restructuring, forget it. You haven't started. |
oyichi:This country continues to baffle me. How can the President, the principal Executive be the determinant of the President of the Senate, the very organ constituted to check and balance government. And we expect democracy to work. Without restructuring this country will continue to decline and the people will continue to suffer and suffer and suffer until their time on earth is over. Another 8 years of decline is about to set in. We simply cannot rule ourselves by decent parameters of success in this country. |
mediclife1987:No. Simply corruption fighting back. |
Billionaire2:That is what I was saying. It is that kind of attitude that brings buildings crashing down. Such owners cannot come to terms with the cost of things and often exert undue pressure on unprofessional construction professionals especially in a high inflationary economy such as we have now. |
Any religion or religious practice that dehumanizes or destroys people in any way, shape or form is evil, pure and simple. |
nkemjacob2:Well you know in Nigeria people generally cannot relate their actions to their experiences. This democratic journey and especially the past eight years is ample proof. We are a people of remarkably short term memory and inflamed passions as opposed to deep, critical thought. And so the Nigerian is bound to learn from only hardship and more hardship and more hardship. I will continue to say this. Since we cannot foresight, the proof of the choice of any elected party or personality will have to be the quality of the experience his or their governance will bring. Let us see whether these sad incidents will abate, remain or escalate. But it is a huge, huge gamble. Sane minds will rather just take charge and empower the right people by vote. |
From all the preceding posts one can only surmise that a society that cannot fashion a value system, that cannot agree as to what is right or wrong, what is acceptable or unacceptable will not be able to head in any one direction and ultimately be lost at sea. This is just a snapshot of what is fundamentally wrong with this country. It's people. |
BrotherSade:Federal civil servants.... and how many are they, compared to the rest of the country bearing the brunt of the economic stress to come. |
In a working democracy this will be a good deal for citizens as it will provide an opposing voice in case of Executive misstep but the antecedents of our politicians will likely make such powers simply bargaining chips for personal gain. Heads or tails, co-operation or confrontation citizens have always picked the short straw. |
Regrets have started.... when the opportunity for legacies have all been squandered...... unfortunately the horse has bolted...so sad. Democracy will always be kind to people that first know about it, then embrace it with all their heart and then defend it through thick and thin. It is pleasant to those that love it.... but hard and regretful if care is not taken. |
Can we see that Trossard is leagues ahead of baby Viera. You don't put children when you need a man's work. Arteta delayed the changes too long. Should have rebuilt the team by the 60th minute. If he likes let him play the boy against KDB or that Spanish road block. |
Trossard!!!!! |
Hahahaha.....it's 3-3. See what can happen if you try TO SHOOT ON GOAL. |
Horbar1:To be fair. The quality ones are too expensive for the Emirates and there has not been any incentive to attract them since Arsenal has been out of Europe for long. |
Horbar1:Because they have no strikers, simple. And you cannot win a game thoughtless of a title if you do not have an outlet for all your possession and cinderella approach play. |
Well, game over.... League over. |
See Viera in the 18. Gosh. What a waste. |
If wishes were horses I will give Odegaard a firm shot and bags of courage factory fitted. Gosh, what else do you need at the edge of the box. Just frustrating. |
Just lucky Peter 'Bitter Truth' Drury isn't commenting today.... ![]() |
Crumbian:He can play 8 very well. He is very mobile. |
[quote author=Crumbian post=122665232]Errrrrmmm... Wetin do Jorginho?[/quote/ I dunno. Even Trossard can play there and brings more useful technique. Perhaps they are injured or something. |
The only light in this dark place Arsenal finds itself is that Saka is alive today much unlike last week. However it seems like a few others have taken to his camp bed. |
Fabio Viera does not bring anything to this team. No pace, no pass, no shot, no heading ability. Wrong selection. |
Goal. Better from Martinelli. THAT IS STRIKING. |
See Martinelli trying to control ball in the box 6. Arsenal's bane has been a failure to strike. They need a decent, PROPER number 9. |
