Great woman. Nigeria has lost an icon. RIP. |
Aiel123:Tell your comrades to go learn how democracy works for the development of nations. This is just not it at all. There is too much individualism in the South-South and very little collective aspirations. Political leaders see these cracks in the polity and the lack of synergy amongst the people to divide, rule and conquer. |
Delta is another serially badly run state that the ruling PDP MUST lose for its citizens to be set free. What has accrued to it since 1999 is more than enough to transform it into an oasis of prosperity. But alas it has been passed on from one villain to another. |
pargelenis:Funny you. |
Silentgroper:They don't have to be sprayed directly. Chemicals found in most pesticides leave residue that often takes decades to break down. The aerosols fall to the ground and hug the habitats of these bugs. They may not be killed outright but become sterile (and this is increasingly evident in human beings as well) and as such cannot offspring the next gen. Over time the bug population collapses. Funny enough it is the dangerous ones that abide and thrive, developing resistance to these pesticides over time |
safesurfer:Ages ago.... bees inclusive. Global warming, environmental degradation and pollution is flushing multiple species and indeed the whole earth down the toilet. |
....hehehehe..... Mt Tinubu, not you and I.... but you and all the ignorant folks that will not read history and will not study how nations are formed and how democracy is made to work for the development of nations.I am sorry but in a feudal state which you love an exploit, you will always need to drag the whole country into association by failure. I am sorry but this is NOT presidential. Taking personal responsibility is.... Are we are in for another season of blame games if this man is elected...... ![]() |
A bit careless of them to transit without face masks. Not wise when travelling abroad because ports of entry are petri-dishes for infection and they know one positive results and they are out of both legs. Too risky. |
Just to round up, two things and one best way out. First, the apology kite everyone is flying. Yes, he should apologise for the violent retribution. That was foolish. The danger however is that in these parts apologies are often misconstrued. so they embolden the abuser where such an individual is purely emotional and lack rational thinking. The consequence will be the worsening of the situation and a potential expansion to engulf others, which leads to the second point. Leaving the house. Once more this looks rational on the surface but for heavens sake he has a kid brother "to take care of'. It doesn't take a genius to determine that all the fall out will come on that lad and it is almost certain the sad incident will repeat itself, perhaps to a worse degree. For we all know the younger generation is less condescending and more assertive across board. So 'out of his experience' it is better for him to remain and be the 'isolator', which leads me to the last point and my suggestion to him. Which is to apologise with a 'straight face'. Then go seek an intermediary to mediate since your dad has been 'conquered'. Such a person MUST be one who she respects and listens to but most importantly a person that is steeped in wisdom and not given to sentiment, trado-cultural correctness and will be an impartial referee ready to repair the damage to the family as a whole first, then your relationship with her, secondarily. My two cents. |
Antina:Ma'am there is a penalty for a lifetime of abuse. A dysfunctional home cannot breed good interpersonal relationships. No one is advocating violence but as a parent you bear absolute responsibility for the actions or in actions of your children. Once again she is extremely lucky that boy has not turned into an antisocial monster and vented on all society. She should apologise to him and move on with remorse. Do not excuse her actions or dream on following them. It may not turn out so well. Do not abuse your kids. |
Ylink4sure:Cultural correctness. This is totally wrong. It is the mother who is generating the curse. His remorselessness has already established his innocence. |
peacettw:Agreed. This will be the only tenable excuse, for such a poor home. Let us condemn abuse wherever it is found and stop accepting wrongs in the name of cultural correctness. Or is it when it graduates to pouring hot water on one's child we will all agree that a crime is underway. |
Antina:This is very uncharitable towards the young man. So who else or what else could have brought up the man differently. You heard him. He is essentially grounded so everything his knows and is comes from her. Yes, the other side of the story is not known but if there was wanton abuse in that family, honestly the mum had it coming. There is a reward for good parenting and bad parenting. The mum just cannot have it both ways. She should thank her stars that the boy is remorseful and the dad must be responsible for that genetic trait, if not matters could have gone much worse. I will always look at the underlying reasons for every occurrence and in this report it is clear the mum is entirely responsible for the incident. Sorry but qualitative parenting has its reasons and you simply cannot reap where you do not sow. The mum caused this tragedy. It is she who should apologise for leading the lad into a dark place. |
That is a big mistake. For every such apex predator killed there will be a multiplication of every crawling, creeping and flying vermin. More rats for instance, more diseases. Man is his worst enemy in the balance of nature. Be informed. Scrolled back and glad to see a lot of respondents see this as a not so small a tragedy. Those who are enlightened. Left to nature there will barely be any sicknesses and diseases. Man has hunted, eaten and destroyed his environment. An environment that is now fighting back with vengeance. |
kingthreat:What is wrong with that. Or consider it the other way round.... triggered by the continued detention of Sunday Igboho for instance.... After all there are yorubas on both sides of the border so one country invading the other on account of ethnic persecution in the other is credible abi....? Once again if a Yoruba hot headed president ascends to power and demands that Sunday Igboho is released and then invades Benin Republic because of their refusal.... will the Beninoise respond or not?? |
Frankiss44:Don't mind him. He is the one that is distracted by other events. |
ArchiLimited:Not true. New variants have emerged. Just that you are not paying attention. Be informed. |
Who still uses ceiling fans in this century. They are noisy, direction-less and power hungry.... just like our politicians.... ![]() |
zainabicy:There is an easy solution to this. The government should float the company so that is it owned by the public. In this case it can still hold controlling shares and will still make revenues by license and royalties. The reason for doubt and resistance lies around its ownership and the opacity of its revenues. |
Mixial:Education for women is 'thinking like them'. Na wa. |
naptu2:You very well know what I mean. The very Nigerian and third world context and why I placed it in inverted commas. That where you have a crowd you automatically have prosperity whereas the facts on ground are completely at variance. And because of that the environment and in this case infrastructure suffers serious abuse. Abuja is another location where urban slums are growing day by day. Soon it too will be called a 'mega city' but where cars fall through vandalised manhole covers simply because of poverty. So those who peddle the term 'mega city' should save themselves from that idea because like you mean, it is not helping. At least because the authorities are not able to engineer the necessary economic growth to sanitize the place. The discouraging term 'urban slum' should be used instead to keep folks out. |
Mega city indeed. How can you 'mega lift' a city with a poverty rate (<$6.00/day) of 92 percent. This is the result. The wanton abuse of the environment and wanton destruction of infrastructure. We still do not have the wisdom to link poverty to under development. |
WoundedLamb:Apt and intelligent. |
Focusmind:And the ideology is absolute so no foreign intervention will ever 'westernize' that country. The fate of women there are cast in stone. Too bad. |
MYND44issaSMOKER:You don;t have to look afar. Here in Nigeria it is happening. In our communities where residents are refugees and there is no local Zelensky to preach defiance... And I will like to see what you will say when for instance herdsmen, boko haram or ISIS arrives to sack your villages and towns.... simply because they have superior weaponry.... Make peace with them you say... Be careful what you wish for. |
I do not believe this is a priority for a cash strapped, heavily indebted country with pressing problems bordering on humanitarian survival. |
He handled his travails and impeachment with such uncanny wisdom and decorum that he cannot but be a success going forward. I wish him all the best in his future political career. |
OVB123:Three things that define a Nigerian and has put us here. Illiteracy: We just do not read. Ignorance: We are poor students of history. Even things that have happened over the past decade we have completely forgotten. Sentiment: Is a product of the two issues above, when we cannot find a clear path forward via knowledge. Only gross suffering can elevate our thinking. |
NaijaCowFarm:Of course they are scrambling for another excuse for failure. Indeed elections do have serious consequences. |
Bullet01:No. God is not involved. He said ask for wisdom if you lack it. The same wisdom that westerners apply when they use stuff, cars, phones, clothes, everything. They preserve them to extract residual value and then trade them on so that the new ones do not cost much to them. Here we use things to destruction and pay premium to replace them so poverty is always around the corner. This applies to their politics as well. They know how democracies work so when political parties are voted out of government they do not go all out to trash and destroy them but rather leave them to fallow and preserve them as viable institutions of democracy, to gain wisdom while out of power so that previous errors can be corrected. They know that the only way elected goverments work is by the threat of losing power because there will always be a government in waiting. But the black man doesn't have this wisdom. He loves chains and slavery, he loves kings and emperors, he loves feudalism, he loves being forced to do what he should do, he loves violence so he cannot rally to build political institutions that will ensure that he holds power and will readily switch it back and forth when one is spent. That is why today you will see ignorant citizens say 'never again PDP, never again APC' and are looking for eldorado where it cannot be found in the kitchen of alphabet soups. Whereas it is the interplay between parties that works democracies. |
Exactly. No more excuses. It is just a pity we have ragtag opposition parties. If not the government will have its toes over hot coals. Democracy is not working well in this country. And it is the fault of the people for not cultivating it. When folks were hailing the autocratic moves of the government and the destruction of the opposition, little did they know that they would require brakes when going downhill. |
Egypt209:And I noticed his detention was in/around Kaduna. I think there is an edict prohibiting its sale/consumption if I'm not mistaken. |
