Let us be frank. There is too much poverty in Nigeria. And where there is poverty the environment becomes a major casualty. It is just a pity that with the bad structure of Nigeria it is impossible for any federating unit to independently improve its economy. If not Anambra will be a sure bet for an economic revolution under this man. Very encouraged by what I have seen so far. Anambra made a good choice to govern it.. |
Most people here are just dunces, no better than those they criticise. Squabbling over what is clearly the 'personalisation' of government, which is a crime but at the expense of governance which in this case is an even bigger crime. Yes, corruption and rent seeking has been prevented but you knowingly let those trains run unattended through bandit country, for perhaps weeks or months unending.... which has cost lives..... No one comes out of this unscathed. Both the Minister and the Vice President should explain why those trains were not secured by other means or services suspended until alternate security service providers found. It appears from this forum that both citizens and government are in agreement that lives just do not matter. Take a cue from Boeing 737 Max debacle of a few years ago. Even though no American life was lost but because it was an American aircraft regulated by the United States, heads did roll and international law suits came aplenty. Here both citizens and government are playing political football with peoples lives. Woe betide them to resume those train services without sorting out this stinking mess of a contract caper. . |
Esseite:Hmmm.... that is the question. It was rejected then they all went home to sleep, leaving the door ajar.... for bugs and beasts.... Summary of a lazy, inept government. |
Of course money is the first and most important order of business... Is this not Nigeria again..?? |
Hahahaha.... Nigerians dey vex sha.... ![]() You just wish this angst can be expanded to include everyone of their failed leaders at all levels. The truth is that public servants the world over are not generally liked or respected, particularly in democracies. It is what galvanizes performance. The quest for public adoration that never comes. |
GloriousGbola:This is why I say the only way to secure critical infrastructure is to have local police, simple. Boots on the ground. There is a minimum law enforcement density per area and per population as prescribed by the UN. We are no where near it because the Federal Government just cannot afford it. A patrol car or van should not be more than fifteen minutes from any spot on the geographical map (of any territory in Nigeria) and not more than two blocks away in urban areas. This is only possible where the system is grassroots based. When you combine that with transit police on trains, air marshals on aircraft, and installation guards at the ports of transit, all interconnected, then the web will be too tight for crime to go undetected. This is one of the few countries in the world where 100, 200, 300 gun wielding men will roam about unchallenged and project criminal power hundreds of kilometres from their bush bases leaving authorities here chasing shadows. The present law enforcement structure is just not fit for the realities of today's Nigeria. We need several tiers/levels of security, each paid for directly by the peoples they serve. State police, Local government police, railway/transit police funded by the state taxpayer, the local government tax payer and in this case the Nigeria Railway Corporation, all equipped and licensed by the constitution to tackle crime. |
SmartyPants:But you don't need to touch the tracks to to disable them. And if touching will trip sensors then the hundreds of thousands of men, vehicular and even cattle traffic over them every day will drive the surveillance teams crazy. I think this lacuna in information is why nothing was done about it. |
descartes400:This is impractical and totally unnecessary. Military bases along roads, along rail lines, along pipelines, around airports, seaports..... haba... What kind of country is this. Please let us devote our resources to intelligence and tech based solutions. If it is about more personnel I have continually said that the Federal Government should franschise the security architecture of this country. We badly need State and Local Government police. If the rail infrastructure runs through territories that are supposedly governed then they should be policed at that level too. The local government where that incident took place should have been responsible for the security of that section of the track. The truth is that a hundred gun wielding men cannot move through a territory unchallenged if it is policed. And even if the local police does not have the hardware resource to challenge such a group, it can communicate and call on additional resources from nearby authorities as it often happens like say in the United States. There the first line of defense against crime is at the County (local government) level. Here resources are too far away and the length of authority to central government makes reaction far too sluggish to respond to fast moving criminal events. The apparent success of banditry is down to wits between a highly mobile, amorphous group against a large, rigid, and inflexible defense. A classic wasp versus elephant battle, the elephant just cannot win. |
Emperorx:Just imagine what a persons armed with a PVC is saying.... There is little hope this country will ever get better with thinking like this. That is why we keep on saying.... May the suffering continue till sentiment is done with. |
And this government has ended its tenure with perhaps the worst record in sports in living memory. Absolutely nothing to bring joy to Nigerians this past seven years..... nothing. Sports in general and football in particular hitting the lowest ebb for a generation. I think it should also be curtains for Pinnick and his band of merry men. They came, they saw and they destroyed..... everything. |
Vaughanlanrewaj:With all due respect. Be human and keep silent in these circumstance. Your posts are dehumanising your person. You will need that humanity in the future. The internet never forgets. Just walk away. |
Emuforlife1:I thought corruption was Nigeria's biggest problem in 2015. So most ignorant Nigerians thought and were sold down the river of misery. |
Very soon one of their ministerial mouthpieces will come up and say after all there is war in Ukraine and houses are being flattened by missiles and artillery so what are we complaining about. A government that constantly finds excuses for its ineptitude will become a magnet for the very reasons. We do not just complain but have proferred solutions for years on end but the owners of Nigeria just love the way it decays for their selfish reasons. We have said repeatedly, restructure the country such that in this case law enforcement is built bottom up, right from the grassroots because the Federal Government just does not have the capacity to monopolise the instruments of law and order in Nigeria. We need State and Local government police embedded into our constitution with the powers to bear arms and enforce state and local laws respectively to which the public will directly fund via state and local taxes and appoint the various heads by election. Then the hapless Federal police and hapless federal judiciary can superintend to ensure they do not go out of line and become burdens on the people. If any government is serious and sincere about tackling criminality that is fast assuming monstrous proportions this is the only way to tackle it. If it cannot, will not or does not then I will seriously reconsider my citizenship of this nation come 2023. I will not continue to live under one disastrous government after another another and will not continue to dwell amongst such poor quality, indolent, ignorant and frankly useless people calling themselves citizens of this country. This country is a complete mess. |
..... Black on black violence is permitted.....All hail the black man. He never disappoints.... |
I wish he does that so the whole house collapses. What has been the benefit of all these schemes since 1999to the state and its citizens. Isn't it clear as daylight that what Abia needs is the best man for the job. PDP is long overdue at the check out counter of Abia politics. |
WibusJaga:Hmmm... there may yet be hope after 2023. Sell himself to Netflix for a mini series titled 'There was once a country'.... starring.... well you know.... ![]() |
Nigerians love feudalism. Anywhere else in the world the reporter will use every opportunity to ask pertinent questions on the business of government. Nigerians on the other hand even in dire straits will rather subscribe to drama and entertainment. And let those entrusted with service to view their offices as personal fiefdoms. What is the point of these useless questions on the office and responsibilities of this man or the expectations of a long suffering peoples. We are not serious. Those in power know this, so the disrespect of the citizenry is their way. See how the U.K.Education 'minister' was shaken badly by Sophie Ridge on Sky this afternoon. Honestly, we are not even ready to move forward..... nonsense. |
SpatialKing:Exactly what I am saying. In a proper, working democracy these big budget projects which are always an opportunity cost will be scrutinized closely by the public and its representatives to see if the funds could be better deployed to areas, sectors and needs that are more pressing. That is a democracy of the people and by the people. |
This is not what we want to hear. This is supposed to be an investment in infrastructure, a humongous amount in time of great need so we want to know what the returns are for a fact. How many jobs will it create, what industries will it spur, how much will go into the local economies (of the catchment areas), etc. These facts will help promote such projects and make them more palatable to Nigerians who will be sacrificing much at such an expense. |
There are many things out there and with a free will given us courtesy of a soul we are at liberty to choose. However this simply means that God's 'ways and means' is all we need for 'life and godliness'.... That is grace and it is sufficient to attain godliness and live a fulfilled, purposeful life. It is the constant search for ways and means outside grace that has put the world in the mess it finds itself today. |
Slurity:This is a basic fact most here just do not want to come to terms with. To verify facts, you simply verify objectives. Where these have been achieved then propaganda becomes useless. Which side is achieving its objectives.... simple. Let the war just come to an end please. It is making less and less sense and no longer worth it. |
All the 'baban bolas' that have been terrorizing us in Abuja ceaselessly should be rounded up and exported to Ukraine. From the pics I see more than enough scrap metal to keep them going for years. They should leave our manhole covers alone mbok. |
The pilots or their remains.....? |
BluntCrazeMan:Everyone imposes. The so called 'strong men' in each of the leading parties climbed up the power ladder by being dictatorial, absolute and feudal. And have remained powerful by trampling upon the democratic dictates of their parties across board. No one in the APC or the PDP should cry foul at the top. They are the same thing and will do same if they were in Buhari's shoes. Have they not dictated in their states and regions. See what Mr. Tinubu has been doing in Lagos and the west since 1999 and see what emperor Wike is doing riding roughshod over the PDP landscape in the south since 2015. Abeg, the black man just doesn't know how to organise viable, just, equitable and prosperous societies. We love and gravitate towards strong men, kings and emperors. |
Massiveglory:Hehehe.... abeg I no wan laff dis afternoon.... Those who do not want or will not accept to understand that democracy in its purest form is the best way to secure their own interests long term, will sooner or later become victims of their own ignorance. As they popularly say, 'it will reach everyone...' |
If you are not going to use physical violence as many ignorantly advocate here then you just had to start early. This is where most parents miss it. They do not observe and adjust early and quickly enough. Quite often by three years the child is concrete in his/her ways. Parenting starts from day 1. |
ivolt:You better watch what you say on air before the NSA locks onto you. That is if your position doesn't reflect your life or your future aspirations. |
But this does not stop the aspirations of the north to lead various political offices across board and at all levels. But when it comes to the south-east the story changes on account of Ipob and the 'mistrust' of the Igbo man. Tell me how to square this circle and understand this parallax. |
jaxxy:That is the exact thing I have been saying. The undemocratic nature of APC internally stems from the DNA of its building blocks, the ACN, CPC and nPDP which were never entirely democratic on their own. The ACN used, fought and dumped many qualitative candidates and office holders over the years for the sole purpose of building the Asiwaju political empire, same for the CPC that never fielded any other candidate other than Mr. Buhari since 2007. A leopard can never change its spots and this regional characteristic has found its way to the centre. It is only because Mr. Buhari is the first President from the party that this appears to stun and upset some. If APC West (old ACN) were to be the ones in power are we saying Mr. Tinubu as President won't be doing exactly the same thing.... What is wrong is wrong and we have been complaining about it for ages. That democracy is not empire building and the search for strong men. Because it can work badly against if the shoe is on the other foot. Rather let us build institutions, shun feudalism and practice the kind of democracy that develops nations. |
HitRun:Hmmm..... the misnomer is being shared around like candy. Supporters of APC West should not despair. The party leader from that region does same at that level. Indeed a party of democrats..... ![]() |
Abeg carry this nonsense comot. Mediocre team. |
Such a poor quality match. Absolutely nothing to comment on. Just 22 mediocre players running around and wasting my time. |
