Pastorsmile:He is aspiring to lead Nigerians not Mr. Buhari alone. At some point we must all recognize that power belongs to the people and that politicians must begin to gravitate to what appeals to the people. There is no other way a candidate coming from an incumbent party that has performed badly can hope to get elected if he or she cannot put a good distance from the government and hope that the electorate does not equate politics with governance. Unfortunately we are still not intellectually there as you hear most uninformed folks today still saying for instance and I quote, 'PDP can never come to power again', just because of the failures of the GEJ government. What will they say now. Where will they run to now to vote. The truth is that parties are the wombs where goverments are conceived. The child from the same womb can become a great success or a resounding disappointment. It is not the fault of the womb, just the way each individual child is tendered. A government from the same political party (APC or PDP) can become a great success if Nigerians are willing to do the hard work of good political parenting which means the carrot and the stick in all wisdom and determination. What Mr. Tinubu needs to do is to prove with all diligence that he will be different, do different and it all begins with distancing himself from the 'infection' of a poor, poor present government. That is not a tea party or a cake walk..because element in the present government will push back. If he can do that then I will encourage all Nigerians to give the man a benefit of doubt. |
Honestly if Mr. Tinubu can boldly begin to separate the wheat from the chaff and begin to distance himself from this government by picking on their failures and subtly criticizing them, then there may yet be hope that the roots of institutional politics, ideological politics as opposed to the politics of personalities and strong men is breaking out. If he can campaign in principle and in TRUTH I will start to have hope and I will openly advocate that his courage be rewarded with the votes of all Nigerians. He MUST bite the bullet and take the political, moral high ground to escape the savage flood that will threaten to sweep the APC out because this government's poor, poor performance has triggered a massive political landslide. |
Lastborn0074:Very ignorant at this. Why not demand for restructuring of the Nigeria State so that each entity can take control of its local economy. 'Life' as you fail to understand is a child of macro-economics and this is the sole preserve of the Federal Government such that there is not a single Nigerian 'living' at a higher standard from another citizen of equal status, from Maiduguri to Lagos and from Eket to the Sokoto Caliphate. No State, local government, town or village has fared better than the other since independence. So at the second bolded. That the experience is universal across Nigeria is certainly not the fault of any Governor. So next time we say 'fight for restructuring' we also mean that, so you can hold your local administrators culpable for your sufferings and we can truly judge who performs based on their individual ability to genuinely create wealth. You gorrit... ![]() |
I really do not want to involve myself in this Tinubu v Osinbajo candidacy squabble but I think both men and the baggage they carry are threatening to distract, derail and destroy their party, the present government and the institutions and processes of democracy going forward. At a time when Nigerians are being pounded to submission by some of the worst levels of governance not seen for a generation, the hapless citizens of this country just cannot afford to carry yet another burden and if this melee persists, Nigerians will definitely cut them loose. |
But the Lord Jesus Christ is also known as the 'Bread of Life'. Surely the Almighty will not be offended in that. But modern day Christians are free to take offence. |
maasoap:You can imagine what the Judiciary as an independent arm of government is thinking now. Where is the Legislature in all this. You mean not a single dissenting voice in the corridors of power in a COUNTRY that claims corruption is its biggest problem..... Where is the slogan saying and I quote, '...if we do not kill corruption, corruption will kill Nigeria...' What a joke.... what a laugh.... what a pity.... Nigeria is just doing this democracy for doing sake (in vox pop), there is no benefit in it whatsoever. Nigeria is almost better left ungoverned, honestly. |
We have been saying this on this forum for many years now. Below is the way to move our darling nation forward and to pay minimum wage of well over #200,000 to hardworking Nigerians. Excerpts : 4) Institute DEATH PENALTY to proven THEFT OF PUBLIC FUNDS no matter how little, and LIFE Jail Sentences for COLLABORATORS. With (1) + (2) + (3) & (4), Nigeria would pay a minimum wage of N203,500 comfortably. GOD BLESS NIGERIA END OF DISCUSSION! Madam Chioma Adichie, We are highly honour that your very first and only comment after exactly 2 years and 9 months of joining Nairaland is to 'totally endorse' one of our posts. That means a lot. A better Nigeria is all we want. God bless you ma wherever you are this early Friday morning! We Rise. Interesting. We disagree to agree. Everyone has a right to their political affinity. Know this and know peace ✌️ Stay blessed. God bless you too Chief Destiny.
Instead of doing the easier task of holding the very government folks like you defended to the highest heavens to account. The thousands of posts advertising and eulogizing this disappointment of an administration since 2014 gone to waste. But of course the food of supporting its autocratic and hard line-to-criticism, cooked in the morning is now ready to be eaten at lunch. Folks like you have made this government secure in its impunity. They know a whole slew of citizens have their backs to do ANYTHING. If you were told a day will come when this administration will pardon the corrupt, the one and only poster boys of high level graft and the highest profile felons in our jails, I'm certain you will not have believed it. But be ready to believe everything you see coming from a government you CANNOT CONTROL. I hope you will have noting on the Judiciary anymore for the three arms of government are now in absolute cahoots to make justice for Nigerians a mirage. Corruption IS AND WILL NEVER BE THE BIGGEST PROBLEM IN NIGERIA. I have said it for two decades. |
Corruption is not THE problem of Nigeria as I have always said... How can your culture be a problem... You can imagine the waste of all the campaign resources for years and years, the endless sales pitch, the barrage of anti-corruption propaganda Nigerians were fed endlessly.... What a betrayal... by a party and government that came to power on this singular promise. It is not only the EFCC that has its morale soured but unfortunately all those who genuinely believed (not the mindless fanatics), but those who voted out of conviction for a better Nigeria and subscribed for its stock but have watched its value sink year on year and is now at junk status... At the end of it all... you just wonder.... WHAT WAS THE POINT IN REMOVING THE PREVIOUS GOVERNMENT... If a people cannot hold their elected officials to account and by themselves sail the ship of state to the destination of their own choice, then democracy as a principal tool of development is totally worthless. |
ofiko123:Next time elect leaders that have ready solutions and not run after phantom reputations. Leaders that know what to do and not those who will begin to ask around when in office. And you know this by asking them NOW!!!.... and not deciding who you will vote for until you are satisfied with their responses. SAY NO: To vague promises and empty propaganda. We need SOLUTIONS. We want DETAILS.... to discuss and debate. That is our role as qualitative citizens in this business of democracy. To set the standards for those that seek to lead us. |
lexy2014:I just do not know where people get this false assertion from. That the US invaded Libya. People just ignore facts and follow after propaganda peddled by those who dislike the West. The only actions the US in conjunction with NATO took against Libya were sanctions to force the Gaddafi regime to handover the terror suspects implicated in the bombing of the PAN America flight over Lockerbie, Scotland. The two suspects the Libyan government themselves admitted carried out the act. The implosion of Libya and the overthrow of the Gaddafi regime was purely internal, triggered by the Arab spring but which the increasingly fractured and weak government could not contain, the exact thing that happened in Syria. Again NATO stepped in to impose a no fly zone when that regime began to attack its own cities that were held by government opposition groups. The same no fly zone that was imposed over Syria, all sanctioned by the United Nations. The United States never had any troops or armament deployed to Libya except the company of Marines guarding the US Embassy which is standard. As a matter of fact it was France and Italy that were the main actors in implementing the NFZ not even the United States. Tripoli fell to rebel groups and Gadaffi was hunted and killed by them and not by any western military force. |
Selfish man that hates responsibility. By the way, may I ask how you came into the world... okay you didn't ask to... |
They still do not have any ideas to solving the problems bedeviling Nigeria. They just come up with vague stories to excite, hoping to get there to 'learn on the job'. As a foremost Presidential candidate in the thick of electioneering he should have an army of specialists backing him up with thoroughly researched solutions which should be the basis of his sales pitch to Nigerians. But when he rather has a horde of half literate, highly ignorant fellows in tow already decided in his favour without offering anything whatsoever to solving their challenges, he can afford to take the real merits of governance for granted. Until Nigerians sit down and collectively agree like any regulator to raise the standards of governance, these politicians will not do the hard work of preparing themselves for office. And they will end up wasting precious time and treasure in trial and error schemes at the laboratory Aso Rock has become. Details do matter. Mr Tinubu, how, how how will you 'unite Nigeria and make it bandit free'..... how.... And how are your ideas better than those of Osinbanjo, Amaechi, and the long list of pretenders.... That is for Nigerians to demand.... for governance to work properly. |
No one wants to hear anything called Nigeria National soccer team.... for now and in the nearest future. They should just sneak out and back again without even a whisper.... ![]() |
Lost my admiration and respect for athletics. The drug shadow looms too large. Won't shower praises until a battery of tests have been conducted on her fluids. |
Jocknom:But there has been killings going on in the north for decades. Has that stopped them from contesting for the highest office. Even in Mr. President's home state, Katsina, which was the crucible of Boko Haram, more lives have been lost than in the entire southeast over this unfortunate episode. This is the injustice we have been speaking about. In the north insurgency has not been ascribed to politics, while it is different in the south. And the incidents are just too numerous to elucidate in this post. For equity we should rather say that if civilians are targeted and killed in ANY state, no one from that state should contest for the Presidency. Is that okay with you.? |
Just be throwing around stupid statistics and telling us the obvious to justify their ignorance and failure. Debt to Revenue ratio will be low when the debt IS NOT INCURRED TO RAISE REVENUE, simple. When an investor like me or you approaches a bank the primary purpose is to fund productivity which in turns creates the revenue to pay such loans back and some more for his business and himself. The government should be borrowing only to fund productivity which will expand the tax base, pump the tax receipts and create businesses and jobs for Nigerians. Any other borrowings of whatever kind will only impoverish Nigerians the more and erode the so called tax base. This is common sense. But as I continually sing. When all your borrowings are geared towards 'contractors' for projects that are not commercially viable, do not create jobs or businesses and so cannot expand the economy, the result is inflation and the impoverishment of the common man from which you hope to tax. How foolish. Let them go to the Chinese to collect their taxes since they are the ones who are getting 'everything'.... nonsense. No serious minded, but poor country will 'contract' out its development. I cannot take a loan to develop my farm from bank X,Y,Z and the bank will sit on my farm and dictate to me who will till the ground, give me machines I will use to farm at their discretion and the markets I will sell my produce and I hope to develop the farm..... it will never happen. I sincerely look forward to a government that is serious about putting Nigerians to work. A government that is attractive enough for Nigerians to invest in. We have the resources to build our infrastructure. Nigerians can build their refineries and railways, power plants and dams without borrowing IF, IF, IF, IF they are part of this development and will directly profit from their establishment. There are 30 million unemployed, able bodied youth in Nigeria that should be building the roads, railways and power plants. Government just has to figure out how to do that because that is how it was done in the developed countries we envy today. And these folks who are running their countries are the primary ones paying the taxes. Our youth on the other hand are busy keeping the government busy with all manner of anti-social vices of horrendous nature.... because they are essentially the devil's workshop. |
lecowas:I told you Nigeria will be last to get out of the mess. Those who value their lives know Covid is still on the prowl where vaccination levels remain notoriously low. The rest of you lot will continue to play Russian roulette with yours. |
Just passing.... Nigerians are not yet tired of their chains. So we look forward to more suffering to unlock the Stockholm syndrome operating in their empty heads. |
Retracted my response. The agri-products were actually out bound which is good news. Having a port close to produce actually makes for good economics. |
Which Lagos is that, the one in Portugal or the one I know where everything emblematic of a failing nation are visible to the blind and audible to the deaf. The only semblance to Dubai is that both are monarchies. |
obedience4:Are you sure..... The USS Cole was almost lost in similar sabotage in 2000. These big signature military pieces are just sitting ducks in the era of AI controlled drones. They will become extinct in the battlefields of the future... just as the dinosaurs could not survive the asteroid impact while the humble cockroach made it simply because of size, immobility and complexity. |
There are only two ways a mighty king will fall from grace, lose his kingdom and his life as well. Either by dying of old age or succumbing to terminal disease, be he an all conquering emperor or a lion in the jungle that no other beast dares. First it was the age of the mighty naval battleships that met their waterloo in World war 2.... the great German 'Bismarck' and 'Tirpitz' and the mightiest of all, the infamous Japanese colossus, 'Yamato' and her sister 'Musashi', monsters that could pound cities into submission from tens of miles away but ultimately fell to the gnats of dive bombers, torpedo bombers and air mounted cannon fire. By the close of the war even the victorious allies knew their time was up and decommissioned their lots. Today we are seeing the beginning of the end of the reign of several kings the theater in Ukraine is offering the world of conflict and the industry of armament. A theater that has not been seen since the Second World war for all the conflicts ever since whether America's in Vietnam, The USSR's in Afghanistan, Great Britain's in the Faklands or the United States in Iraq and Afghanistan had been conflicts of i unequals where the lambs challenged the lions to wrestle. The conflict in Ukraine is one of equals, where capabilities, technologies and resources are more evenly matched and this has exposed the great lions of armament and the great emperors of battlefield technologies as aging and dying of the pestilence of micro and nano technology, artificial intelligence, drones and robotics. As observed from the first few weeks of this conflict, the first king to abdicate his throne is the mighty battle field tank. The sheer number of million dollar, hitherto 'feared' tanks, AFV's and troop carriers lost in this conflict to 'pocket' devices is just alarming. In those days a soldier in a tank felt safe and ruled the battlefield like a lion the jungle. These days a soldier is safer miles away from any tank..... any tank none of which offers any protection from even the crudest of shoulder launched anti-tank weapons that number in tens of thousands and can be bought literally off the shelf. Little wonder even the famed US Marine Corps is gradually retiring its tanks even though over 95 percent of the famed M1A1/A2's are still alive and kicking being hyped as indestructible. Wiser heads know better. The king is dying. Second are the monstrous hulks roaming the high seas, the whales and sharks of the naval superpowers. This week has shown that even cruisers (which are supposed to be the kings of sea self defence can be tackled by a swarm of ebola like drones and taken out bya right hook from behind.... I am sure the United States, the UK, China and France to a lesser degree is watching very. very keenly and wondering if their mighty aircraft carriers they spend tens of billions building and equipping are worth anything when up against not Gaddafi's, Saddam's or Al-Assad's military but one that can actually shoot back.... The king is dead. |
toprealman:And a taste of Europe once.... on a shoe string budget.... |
The man has tried abeg. When you are in a league with competing teams worth billions of dollars and player assets in hundreds of millions you just cannot survive there for long. I am certain the team is exactly where their commercial valuation is. It is teams like Everton that have disappointed with much investment and scant returns. |
What are they fighting over ? ![]() |
poiZon:Exactly. Is there any single terrorist involved with any of those shootings that is still walking around free and threatening the citizens of the United States so brazenly like the hordes of bandits in Nigeria. Even the felon behind the subway shootings of a couple of days is already behind bars and before a judge in a flash and will surely serve his time in full without a hope of pardon unlike his so called principal who has falsely peddled anti-corruption credentials yet is letting well known political criminals off the hook. How dare this two-bit government hack compare the Nigeria his failed principal claims to lead to a nation of proper laws and justice, of upstanding institutions and leadership that is accountable to its citizens.... how dare... what a shame.... ![]() |
Wow.... what a loss... What a legend... |
sanpipita:Once again. It is not USA's business. NATO was not formed to protect the United States. NATO was formed first of all to unify the militaries of western Europe so that incidents of the second world war will no longer be possible and secondly to counter the threat from the Soviet Union. The United States can take care of itself. If the threat from 'the East' is now being rekindled it is up to countries of Europe to unify against it, The United States does not have to go around 'persuading' countries to join for the situation right now is clear. Russia is a totalitarian regime that can threaten without cause and act without notice whether 'provoked' or not. Just like Nazi Germany invaded Poland, Austria and Czechoslovakia without warning, Finland knows its history and will preempt any involuntary action by Russia. Once again. Russia is not a democracy so is not predictable. No one likes unpredictable, dangerous neighbors. |
Biodun556:What is the business of the United States in this. C'mon, elevate your thinking. |
simplesearch:Because the criteria for selection is just too low.... as a matter of fact, there are no standards. Nigerians just DO NOT HAVE STANDARDS FOR THOSE WHO RULE THEM. And this can only be possible via restructuring when the people sit down around a table and AGREE amongst many things what the minimum criteria for those who will aspire to rule them will be. Every organization has standards and set criteria for those seeking employment and no one these days, not even an individual appointing a cleaner in his house or office will not vett the process and rigorously interview such a person. But in Nigeria people will hear this man and that man has failed woefully before.... this man and that man is a serial thief.... this man and that man is a complete dunce and ignoramus, that man is a rabble-rouser, an outlaw, and champion of violence and incivility..... yet you still see folks fighting and dying to employ such a person, give him or her the keys to his secret places and the pin code to all his riches..... ONLY IN NIGERIA. Then they sit back and wonder why the country depreciates year on year and the people slide deeper into intolerable suffering.... the people are the cause. Until Nigeria is restructured I just won't waste my time visiting INEC for a voters card. My conscience will just not allow me be a part of this catastrophe and no one can blackmail me to join a queue to choose between the proverbial devil and the deep sea.... time and again. |
Mooh247:That you willingly give to them when you cannot hold them accountable and sing praises when they 'share' the leftovers. |
Hmmm....table shaker. If you are in the Veep's Camp this is called 'stepping on toes' not ' stepping into shoes', and it will meet with a stiff reply...trust me. |
