DMerciful:They were selected because of their low speed and low operating altitude which is ideal for close air support of ground troops. Also fixed aircraft like the Tucano are more reliable and cheaper to operate than rotary wing aircraft. Reason why America cannot retire the A-10 Warthog, though it is jet engined, it just doesn't have a present battlefield replacement. But of course the US will not sell us the A-10 (they rarely export it) so this is the next best thing. |
If the NMA is too timid to make a stern demand on government to broaden its provision of PPE to all hospitals, public and private that are exposed to the virus that has apparently breeched the NCDC sphere of influence, then I suggest all hospitals factor the cost of appropriate PPE into their billing system and get independent contractors to go find it anywhere in the world. I can see politicians doning the kind of protection healthcare workers in most of our hospitals can only dream off. Any doctor that continues in the days and weeks post community spread is only playing Russian Roluette with his or her life. Nuff said. |
aladeokin1000:That is nonsense by a person that clearly does not understand what viruses are thoughtless of how they act. Viruses are smaller than cells, meaning that the procedure or therapy will have to penetrate cells to destroy the virus without destroying the cell. If heat in/to the body will kill it, it means the heat will also probably kill you. It is your cells that will send signals to your brain that your actions will assure mutualdestruction and your reflexes will stop you.. Viruses are hardy simply for this reason, they hide where it is hardest to destroy them without collateral damage. |
The private healthcare sector is completely exposed to this pandemic without the tools and with scant capacity to fight it due to the monopoly of resources by the centre. How are we going to win this war this way. Very soon the NCDC will be completely overwhelmed in every way and by the time they react it will be too late. In other countries the NCDC equivalents are referees not players. Why are things always different in Nigeria. If they think they can centralise the Covid 19 battle the way they centralise law enforcement in Nigeria then they have something serious coming. Concluded our therapeutic studies as to what stands the best chance of working against Covid 19 so we are ready for the virus. What is left is to find a prophylaxis for our people on essential services and our relations on the frontline in various medical institutions. Not waiting for any government that is always behind the curve. |
Please post areas inhabited by the so called 'common man', the most important demographic in the Covid 19 battle. Stop showing us No. 10 Downing Street. They can pay their way to medical safety. The length and depth of this pandemic depends on what happens in the 'wilderness'. They say Abuja is on lockdown and point to Maitama and Asokoro while 3 out of 4 residents live in Kubwa, Nyanya and Gwagwalada to name a few places where it is business as usual.... Let us see the real Kaduna....where the real people live before terming it 'Total'. The daily rising figures of new infections after a month of lockdown does not justify the huge disinvestment in Nigeria. Total lockdown is just fancy, cosmetic terminology in most states. |
Izigha:With all your unsold cargoes.?...pally, forget oil, this is just the stutter of a dying engine. |
Staro:But when they say restructure you will join hands with the lovers of the status quo to poop it with all manner of excuses while the owners of Nigeria do theirs in broad daylight and with the toppings of impunity. Sorry oh. I hope when this pandemic is over one way or the other our collective thinking will progress like the NCDC Daily Stats Show. |
prekumohtim:But when they say restructure you will say no. You will join the Vice President in saying all our problems are about the distribution of resources just like Gowon 'wisely' said in the 70's, that our problem is about 'how to spend our money....' Enjoy your country until you are prepared to get it working properly. |
Courtesy of a non functional structure, 'between the devil and the deep sea', is a Nigerian saying that holds true in everyting national from electoral choices to battling Covid 19. When folks break curfew it stimulates others to do similar in a cascade of social disintegration. When this goverment sees the wheels coming off it will typically cast the blame for any eventuality on the citizens. This is exactly what will happen in the days and weeks to come. This maybe the end game of Nigeria's battle. I said we donot have the capacity to lock Nigeria down. |
Seun, please create a new folder (or whatever you call it) specifically for the corona virus pandemic in Nigeria with moderators that will ensure it takes 2 out of 4 slots at the front page and ensure it is cerebral, not compromised with personality stories or politicking. The situation in Nigeria is critical. Things have deteriorated badly over the weekend to such an extent that I think more information needs to go out to the public and more queries need to go out to the goveremnt at all levels since the depth of interaction between the leaders and the led is not in line with international best practices. You will indeed realise that the quality of information the average Nigerian has about his surroundings is not sufficuent to enable most folks save themselves from the deadly effects of Covid 19. I am not one to panic in most situations but the reports I am receiving this morning from the grassroots is not good at all. Please do something quickly. We need to know what our doctors specifically in the vulnerable private sector are seeing on the ground on a location by location basis in real time. It will save lives. There is nothing else that matters for now. |
sarrki:This is the personalisation of goverment we are talking about and which we suffer for, for example via the failure to lockdown borders against this pandemic at the right time which will guarantee the almost complete destruction of the economy of Nigeria. When you run your goverment, your institutions on the basis of personal interests alone you simply cannot instill the discipline and take the hard decisions to make progress. Unfortunately folks like you who have no stake whatsoever in this sad causative but receive more than enough dividend in its disastrous outcome simply cannot put one and one together to liberate your mind from slavery. |
Even Nigerians are mocking when there is no level of killing within her borders that makes international news anymore because it has become the norm. The police have killed more than this number since the pandemic started yet Nigerians are not bothered, their focus is on what is happening in Canada. Useless so called citizens. |
Nigerians leaving the important issues of tackling the pandemic to banter around irrelevancies. How can your goverment take you lot seriously. Is this the preoccupation of citizens of other nations...? |
Imagine a flat tyre while all alone at the Kruger... |
After far and wide consultations for months a treatment regime is about to come through, perhaps by Wednesday, then the NCDC and their political wing, the PTF can cease to exist for all I care. Totally disappointed the way the pandemic is being handled in Nigeria. This matter is beyond the NCDC and in a matter of days and weeks they will be totally overwhelmed and lose control. The fact they are not actively engaging the full capacity and capabilities of the entire health industry early will turn back to hit us hard as we have experienced with crime and a centralised police system. |
LaEvilIMiss:Listen. Agreed that it is a law that bad leaders will not be missed at their demise but this is only a statement of fact. To you, WHAT DOES IT PROFIT YOU. What does it add to you particularly in this situation where your absolute focus should be on your own survival and self preservation. Don't you consider that you are being 'distracted in battle......' |
Yenefer:Agreed. Learn the lessons and move on, period. He fought his battkes and lost. It is left for the living to fight theirs. The living is in a far more tenuous position. |
Jesus never forced himeelf on anyone. He should wash his feet and leave, simple. |
Zakarisammy:Once more it is a cumulative account in line with global practices. |
Rozz:The greatest evangelism message you can preach is with the prosperity of your life. Jesus preached with influence (aka with the Holy Ghost and with power) not just words alone, so make your life (style) a beacon of attraction. Those who set out to preach with words alone are often wanting when the visuals donot correlate with the words. |
frank317:It is a cumulative record in line with global practice for the theoretical reason that an infected person will develop immunity which in itself has certain values. |
Covid 19 treatmemt remains free for every Nigerian so far. What exactly is the issue here. |
Nwodosis:That is the problem and with time most private hospitals will be infected taking some offline and worsening the healthcare situation in the country. This is the reason why goverment has to work closely with the private sector health providers to create capacity and redesign treatment protocols. I am seriously bothered about private healthcare establishments becoming the new hotspots. People with non covid issues are at serious risk. |
What a disaster. Great loss to the nation, Mr. President and his family and friends. Hindsight is always 20/20. There are so many things that could have been done to prevent this needless loss. I can't even start but we are suffering from our collective failures as a nation. RIP. |
Thanks to Covid 19 the peons are not at work to turn off the power after the lords leave each day, that's what. I can just imagine what the lavatories look like...urrgh... |
Oluwatosinbode:And why should you be doing this and stupidly boasting about it. If you are not pernitted to move around and are doing so you are only prolonging this battle and its torrid economic effects on those vulnerable around you because you could be an asymptomatic carrier. Please be informed. |
atiku4President:Agreed. Lagos should lead the way in fashioning survival strategies by working with all stake holders not sitting down in virtual dictatorship when the capacity is not there. Lagos knows the importance of its economy in the matrix of social stability and will seek to fast track the Covid battle by bringing capacity on board. Just listening to CNN right now. The idea of bringing census capacity to contact trace. Which to me is reasonable. Any institution that can help should help. It is not a one institution battle at all. |
I am impressed. Highly proactive goverment and impactful leadership you just wished was reciprocated at the centre. Hitting all the key issues and bringing ALL resources to bear in this pandemic war and not just leaving the outcome to a single committee and a single institution. Like I said this morning and watching Skynews on the process in the UK, it is clear that to make advances against Covid 19 the battle has to be 'grass rooted' in all capability meaning testing, tracking and identification and with time isolation and treatment. We need to get our extension workers who do a fantastic job every year with polio vaccination to bring their capabilities into play. We need to get the capabilities of all medical facilities both private and public up to speed so that we can speedily decentralise Covid treatment and grass root it eventually. All these so that we locationally isolate hotspots and begin to open up other non affected places to normal economic activities. It will be near impossible to do so with the centralised system of testing, identification and treatment we practice presently. We will be locked down perpetually the way we are presently set up. The Federal goverment needs to up its game and come up with a strategy to end this pandemic. We cannot afford this defensive, waiting game. |
Marine54:Folks like you should be banned from this forum. There are rules that should exclude stupid comments like these that do nothing but distract and umdermine the position of well meaning and forwars thinking people who see the disaster looming and crave for a way out. Please remove this nonsense. |
FX2BROWN:Good morning indeed. For two weeks all I have been asking of this goverment and asking the citizens of Nigeria to pressure their goverment on is a strategy to contain this pandemic, simple. The question may seem strange noting all the activity going on around the PTF and NCDC but I haven't seen anything like a combative strategy to tackle it. The situation in Nigeria is like a man who opens a shop and waits for customers to 'develop symptoms'. Is Nigeria going to be locked down till we wait for the last Nigerian to develop symptoms... A few days ago in two states search parties have been sent out to find those who may be infected. That is a positive step like a shop owner employing marketers to canvass for sales... However can goverment fashion out a proper plan to reach and effect the entire population of Nigerians to identify safe, vulnerable and affected communities, protect those without the virus and treat those affected. Where are the extension workers who handle our annual immunization programs that cover the entire country witin a few short weeks. Why can't they for example be mobliised to provide logistic support knowing they have serious enumeration data and capabilities. There are so many things that can be done but it appears the whole Covid thing is being handled in a bubble that is exclusive of all other capabilities. Like someone said yesterday. If you are going to exclude all other medical institutions, all other medical professionals and all other medical supplies how are you going to beat the pandemic. All over the world ALL hospitals, ALL doctors, nurses, medical professionals and all manufacturers and logistics companies are in the battle and in most cases are being over stretched while here the battle in being conducted almost in a clandestine manner despite the fact that the goverment is struggling. I just donot understand. Where is the strategy? This was not how the ebola crises was handled. Then the goverment had the sole responsibility for treatment but the wider medical community had far greater input in isolation, recording and reporting than it does now. |
The WHO got is terribly wrong about COVID 19. That is just the fact. What a lot of countries face today is because of their politically induced indecision. An early declaration of the pandemic will have shut down international borders around the globe much earlier and saved tens of countries the spread, thousands of needless deaths and millions dumped in the pit of poverty.. |
