Nigeria does not have the capacity, simple. Was out of state today. The outskirts of Abuja, the satellite towns are completely free of anything called lockdown. Folks just going about their business on the Nassarawa axis like nothing is happening. |
Nigeria is almost a basket case. Just imagine this. Kai...and yet they cannot afford PPE, ventilators and test kits. The IMF must be mad seeing these things and still forgiving our debts. I will certainly not. Never. Ever. Look Nigerians, except Nigeria be restructured we will never see the kingdom of development. Never. Ever. Nobody, I repeat nobody in power at any level from any background, carrying any experience will be able to develop Nigeria through a structure that permits this sort of nonsense. |
Ogegeodey:Can't agree more. Just poor leadership through and through, comfy in a state where the people's expectations are ridiculously low. One state where the quality of governance has declined year on year since 1999. The only way out is to get a new party in government and I hope the APC can do the needful in 2023.....but then guess what. They will all likely decamp like he changes his 'designer' Covid 19 muzzle. |
sassysure:Said Covid has no respect for political correctness. Unlike a lie that takes ages perhaps years to decay. Covid corrects errors in a matter of days. Perhaps it was the Governor's denials that caused NCDC Kano to take a paid vacation. He should have towed the Wike line and shouted to high heavens inorder to get the attention of the Feds. Just like the NMA treating the government with kids gloves while their members are dying in scores. Ganduje had better wake up, cast off the toga of political patronage and correctness and start screaming for help no matter who is embarassed. If this thing boils over his people will revolt and come for his head. |
Note that figure, 36,000 test kits. |
TonyeBarcanista:If you owned or presently work in a non Covid designated hospital right now, will you accept and attend to patients. Be honest. And let me give you the full picture. 1. You donot know the status of the patient and even if you inquired most will deny and lie about their history. Three doctors have died this way already. 2. The goverment has absolute monopoly over testing and has ordered referrals to its facilities once Covid is suspected of which fevers associated with malaria and typhoid is a key symptom. 3. The availability of PPE of which goverments the world over have taken the lead in providing in in short supply. Any medical professional in contact with any sick patient anywhere in Nigeria now without PPE is almost certainly going to be infected because the lockdown has failed. 4. The directive that any medical centre with a recorded infection should be closed down. Meaning that those already on admission and in treatment will be put in danger. Remember hospitals were not empty before Covid. So how do you expect it to be business as usual for doctors, hospitals and the sick public when goverment has a monopoly of resources, monopoly of capacity and dominates legislation. Have you not seen that Nigeria is one of the few countries where the healthcare system is split into two, Covid and non Covid, whereas in other nations all hospitals are fully mobilised and even more are built. Over there all medical professionals are mobilised and even those retired are brought back while here NCDC/states operate with just a select few... The polarisation of this fight is causing severe problems for the other half of the industry and it is beginning to show. |
othermen:When Wike was shouting some were playing politics supporting a Federal Goverment that could not even protect its Chief of Staff, ranting about oil that is worth nothing today. Today they are silent, sentiments are grounded, today they are running around seeking to do what the Governor of Rivers State was doing back then. Covid 19 is fast becoming a great tutor and indeed an examiner of competencies, visionaires and leadership everywhere it berths. |
HITMEUP4ANYBIZ:I really like that centre statement. '...you are on lockdown but your politicians get paid...' and will use it to flog our dead brained citizens till they get sense. Indeed. Whether the lockdown lasts a year until a vaccine is found they will get paid, long after most companies will have folded up and most Nigerians will be eating out of a spoon. Then the rebooting of the minds of Nigerians will begin. Then they will understand what democracy means that power should belong to the people. By then all sentiment will have faded and all people will be ready to cast fear into those who lead but who should serve. Then no citizens will fight and destroy his fellow citizen on behalf of those who don't give a hoot. As a matter of fact I have another bitter pill for Nigerians... Schools are beginning to open around Europe and very soon the States. Lockdown or not, they will fly their kids abroad on chartered flights at your expense while your kids remain at home and lose time to their kids. If that in addition does not compel you to stand up and demand for proper, good, right, high performance governance.... then you are practically damned. There is no govermemt in the world today not under the severest of pressure, even those performing to a relatively higher degree. Why should Nigerians sit idly twidling their thumbs while their country crashes. |
JosEast:Next time take control of your destiny, get enlightened so that you can depart from the club of 'hope they will...' and instead order goverment around to do the right thing at the right time. I think you can appreciate the difference in the quality of governance round the world when even smaller, poorer countries are handling this crises a lot better. Sentiment can only take us so far. Poor quality citizenship will not take us anywhere except certainly place us at the base of the league of Covid 19 fighting nations because of what we do at the polls every four years and in society everyday. |
Gun sales are up throughout America. The FBI making record daily number of checks a couple of days ago. When freedoms are on the balance the citizens return to their default setting....the 2nd Amendment. This is the purest definition of democracy. |
Just speaking my mind.... everything I have thought and said about this matter. This is what our so called National Institute of Policy and Strategic Studies should be conjuring. This is what our so called National Assembly should be debating. This is what our so called citizens should be demanding...a cerebral approach to solutions that stimulates deep thinking. These are the seeds from which the exit strategy I have consistently demanded for arise from. These are the kind of people I just wish were in decision making positions. Anyway however this matter will end, I sincerely hope Nigerians learn a long lasting lesson on how to engage the right people to build the kind of country they so desire to live in. |
They should check the medications administered particularly for those on steroids. |
LilMissFavvy:You don't understand what a pandemic is all about. I suggest you make inquiries about Covid 19. Start with the WHO and ask what the most important thing is. Then come back here. |
LilMissFavvy:I think you need to read between the lines of what the head of the NCDC is saying. For the first time he is raising the issue of the economics of the pandemic. What does it tell you. |
Emedu:Oga, demand for accountability and stop these semantics. Stop giving goverment officials a free pass. This country is in serious trouble. They, whoever has been receiving money on behalf of goverment should be held accountable. Nigerians want to know why we appear under resourced despite publicly declared donations. Transparency is not what you toy with in critical situation such as this. If Nigerians arr going to be kept at home till December due to lack of resources to battle Covid 19 let us know NOW so that those who have a serious stake in Nigeria can go find the resources to shorten the battle. Is it a sin for goverment to be open, honest and transparent. |
What I say to the NCDC at this point where it appears they have lost control as one of my final suggestions is to select just ONE aspect, the most critical aspect of the pandemic and go for it with whatever they have. They should focus on testing ALONE and completely vacate the stage of isolation, contact tracing and treatment for the states. They are doing far too much to be effective in any. If they cannot bring in capacity by delegation then they cannot win. The Feds should do the work of normal central goverments, relating internationally which in the case of Covid 19 will be checking international movement and more importantly the procurement of critical supplies: test kits and PPE. The states should handle everything else. |
LilMissFavvy:Don't be gullible and buy that narrative. They are building an escape pod with your sentiment. If the Covid battle fails they will say it is the citizens who caused it by agitating for a reopen and wash their hands off any respinsibility. That is why we should expend our energies demanding for a concise strategy, a clear route to the end of this thing rather than beg bread. A plan that says if we do exactly this we can bring this battle to an end by this time with x amount of resources. Nigerians are not the only ones demanding for economic liberty. The difference here is that those who are in charge are reactionary. As if they just set up shop and wait for Covid to come buy lives instead of hunting for it and setting traps all over the place. |
Nackzy:That was talk for the gullible. Time always paints the true picture. |
Exactly the endgame I have been talking about. Lie about your capabilities to monopolise the scant resources, destroyed the economy and then surrender at the zenith of the pandemic when it is clear that the dam has burst. He should not complain. He should sit there and sort it out since they don't want to listen. He must square this circle. They want to hide behind the drive by the citizens to survive the economic calamity to capitulate to Covid 19. Our own must always be different in Nigeria. See tiny countries with fractions of our resources managing this thing far better. |
Adolak:No sir. The US did not beg. Trump phoned India and threatened retaliation. Re check your facts. Anyway Chloroquine has not been proven to be effective across board. It works for some and it kills others. |
mployer:They are the bumbling bureaucrats our equally slow goverment was looking at to decide whether to close our borders or not. Guess they were obeying the Chinese Commumist party to ensure all countries were crippled so that we can all depend on China for masks to cover our noses and soap to wash our hands. The Chinese ambassador to the United Kingdom couldn't even hide it this morning on a Skynews intercative prog, calling China the 'factory of the world now' and asking for cooperation not confrontation. I was just mad.... Well played China...well played. |
Naijajeodax:Tedros and his WHO should go and sit down. They caused this mess in everyway and are still messing up. Failed to declare it a pandemic long after it has crossed into Hongkong and Korea in order not to anger Beijing. Still advises against borders closures till today. They have barely anything to offer from treatment protocols to logistics support to developing countries yet they are quick to criticise and shootdown every suggestion by affected countries. Unlike the WHO of old, these ones are just tourists in the Covid 19 safari watching the virus take apart humanity. |
Violence is a sign of miscommunication. The 21,000 dollars for grade school is a sign of irresponsibility. The video is the sign of a dysfunctional home torn asunder by miscommunication and papered over by money. It doesn't work. We don't want to hear news of son shooting father and mother dead, cleaning out the safe and driving the Ferrari into the sunset with a banjo in the backseat. |
funshint:Not really. If he has capacity he can buy large cargoes on the cheap and await a rebound to refine. Everyone is buying up cheap oil. Nothing wrong with the global economy before Covid so cheap oil is a good savings account. |
Doesn't have to spend his money. He can donate his time and personality to raise money. Just jog round your block ten times or juggle a watermelon with an appeal attached to your coatails and the cash will roll in. Folks are doing the most ridiculous things to raise cash all over the world very successfully. It is only a matter of creativity and trying which apparently he is not willing to offer. |
Simplyleo:I did not mention President Buhari's name in my write up. Mr. President is clearly not in the equation here as a wartime leader. Boss Mustapha is the defacto leader of this effort. What I mean by 'starting a war' is provoking one and I need not stress again what should have happened long ago. A few days ago I did say that a biblical verse explains it all. Luke 14: 31 & 32 should have guided Nigeria when they saw what Covid 19 did in Wuhan in January. This government saw lockdowns, saw international travels bans, saw mega hospitals being built in days, saw supermarkets with empty shelves, saw the economy of China take a hit.... all in January and for goodness sake we have an ambassador there to feed us Intel. If I as an individual receiving international news could conclude as early as Januaty that this was going to be an international calamity how coyld a whole government sit hack and invite Covid 19 to supper. Remember that it was the near riot of Nigerians that forced the first lockdown in Nigeria of our international borders. This government supported by its fans (and you can go back and check, even on thus forum) were in total denial and labeled those who spoke out as alarmist, fake news peddlers not until the Italian was discovered THROUGH THE PRIVATE SECTOR to be the first case. So what do we call all this....ignorance on the part of government towards Covid 19, or bravado or incompetence or mere pandering to the personal interests of a few. Whatever you call it, government saw war coming and invited it. |
Simplyleo:Leo, look, we have been calling for a strategy from this government consistently for a month now without anything happening. What do you think the virus hss been doing since then..... It has been exploiting the nooks and cracks such a strategy is meant to address. The United States, Italy and the rest you claim will rebound from this crises in a manner that speaks of one simple difference, that is capacity. Why can't we form our own peculiar strategies around our inadequacies. Those countries you speak off have been locked down just slightly longer than us and have clearly suppressed the pandemic demonstrated by the gradual resumption of economic activities. From where you sit can you even remotely suggest when Nigeria will 'flatten the curve' when after one month we don't even know where the bottom of the river is. You should be very worried and I kid you not. Nigeria has taken a battle that is bigger that it. We will need to learn new skills foremost is sicial cohesion to beat Corona. Sorry if the bolded is offensive, I sincerely apologise but this government is what we have for now as the primary vehicle to organise and rally Nigeria(ns) to fight Covid 19, and you must admit they are serious wanting, perpetually behind the curve and totally out of their depths. Amongst all the countries you mention the Nigerian government appears to be the most relaxed, the least under pressure to sort it all out with a cavalier 'whatever maybe should be' disposition, simply because of the attitude of you and me in not making serious demands of them, and I don't mean the so called palliatives, but on clear strategies on how to end this. |
Simplyleo:'Almost everyone' is confined to those you folks worship, not us. We have stated very clearly what goverment should have done long before the first case arrived Africa. And we have stated in very clear terms what government should be doing right now. But when you dwell in a crab bucket you are unlikely going to see the sun and definitely will not get out. If this pandemic does not elevate the thinking of folks like you then nothing ever will. The people you worship have been stripped naked by Covid 19. Next time you put objectivity first before sentiment. It is pleasing to see how helpless you sound. Where is that your legendary bravado about the invincible competence of your feudal overlords. Boss Mustapha was soliciting 'IDEAS' in his speech yesterday. Can you imagine this from folks who just weeks ago boasted that eveything was under control. Now we can see that 'copy and paste' from Europe is not working. Now we can see the importance of putting cerebral people in government and at the affairs of complex societies such as ours. Now we can see why we cannot win this pandemic war we should never have started in the first place. |
bugzygee:Schools in Germnay are resuming. Nigeria waited for the children of the rich to return before shutting down our borders thus letting the virus in. Now the children of the rich will sneak out of the country and back to school while the children of the masses may not see the four walls of a classroom again this year. By the time the dust is settled your kids will be leagues behind theirs. And we still have people who sit down and hail them instead of charting their own destiny. I warned months ago of the consequences of Nigeria being at the end of the queue of nations affected by this pandemic. |
Is he wearing a MAGA cap.... Was watching 'Air Crash Investigation' on Discovery yesterday about an I donesia plane that crashed into a hill short of the airport in bad weather. Apparently the Captain was fond of turning off the GPWS which was faulty and often gave off false alarms. The day he needed it for his safety he forgot to turn it back on and he and many others died. The day the press will be needed by the people to raise an urgent alarm about a pressing issue of life and death, the press will be turned off and silent and many will suffer or die. When we sit down and complain that nothing works well in Nigeria despite our supposedly best efforts, we should all realise just how many bells and whistles we as a people ignorantly join hands with dictators and autocrats to turn off. I will always say this. A goverment that does not fear the people will never respect them enough to change their destiny for the better. |
DanseMacabre:Look man. I was at a tertiary healthcare facility today. At the end of the day they were given 1, one, uno.... washable face mask that looks like a teenagers bra as incemtive to work or what....ask me And guess what some were scheduled for elective surgery tomorrow. I wish to see what will be given them in the theatre. If it is not complete medical grade PPE then they are just playing russian roulette with their lives. This is not a country that has anything near an abundance of healthcare professionals. Will it not be crazy to slaughter the few you have out of carelessness while those that survive Covid head for the doors.... |

So if the the virus spreads and escalates, do you think only the poor masses will die/be infected? Even those stealing the funds will be affected one way or the other. You think that hungry people would give a hoot joining you in discussing strategies to resolve the pandemic, or they would be more interested in going out to heck out a living. Now that we have a sizable number of victims is when we should have a total lockdown, with adequate resources shared out, but how will lockdown work with masses complaining they are hungry, relief funds stolen, shared with sentiments, etc. Truth is, we can only be hopeful a vaccine is out and the virus does not spread, otherwise the poor/ those embezzling relief materials would both go down.
