Loans that have no effect in subduing poverty because they end up with multinationals that have exclusive rights to our infrastructure development treasure chest. Where is the recovered Abacha loot going. To 3 companies that will surely kickback a portion, transfer another portion to their home nations and leave uswithoverpriced, low quality structures. An economic blueprint consisting of loans, grants, recoveries that onpy make the average citizen poorer, less educated and in the case of covid 19, less healthy is useless. Our economic blueprint is just defective. It should rather center on education, inspiration and industrialization. Get these three and every other thing will be added to the wealth of Nigeria. |
Golan007:Absolutely right. When Nigerians come into vast resourves they often seek these showpiece investments.that have little depth. |
kerry57:The goverment just wants to pretend it has any leverage on the real sector of the economy. Just hot air. No one is listening. |
BUGOFF:So if you lift the lockdown in 2 years this will not happen. Oga, it will only be worse. And you can be sure that in 2 years time there will still be cases of Covid 19. It is an influenza virus and has come to stay. |
[quote author=kingjoe post=89166786]which kind of honesty. when did he declare a lockdown. when states that are not vulnerable like kano were closing boarders .he was busy requesting for money.is money used in closing borders. how many isolation centres did he put in place.let me stop here[/quote Don't mind them. Kano has been the most inconsistent state concerning the lockdown despite the fact that it was one of the last States to admit it had a problem and consequently quarantine its citizens. They have hardly gone for a week locked down without arbitrary concessions regarding citizen movement. The same sentiment by which they brow beat the country into mediocrity and under-development is the same way they have handled the pandemic with similar outcome. |
Silly man. Testing or not does not increase cases. It is contact that spreads it. If his labs were shut down and he was flying blind why didn't he close the state down pending when testing resumed. He is just trying to shift responsibility from his incompetent administration to an equally incompetent one above. |
pedrilo: ... Thinking cap...?*&*?!!?...did you elect people to goverment that are remotely known for their intellect? You had chances in 2015 and 2019 and the choices you made reflects your priorities and desires. You said corruption was the only problem and you needed the force of strongmen politics to move forward.... now that has proven not the case you are looking for 'thinkers'.The Nigerian citizen is the reason why we arehere today. A mentally bankrupt citizenry cannot expect a better society. Let me ask the average citizen this question?. Who amongst those in government now will anyone appoint to run his personal business or handle his personal affairs. Yet we hand over a whole country to them expecting miracles. The highest office holder of intellectual background is totally missing and for such a long period in the most difficult time Nigeria has faced in decades. What does that say about the affairs of the nation. If you were coming from Mars you will think Nigeria has no issues whatsoever in the Covid battle and its attendant socio-econlmic fallout hence the almost absent government at the very top. |
iamadonis2:Everyone will swim or sink on his intellect. I see no reason why this should ordinarily bother anyone. When you are a citizen in a country that plays poker with the lives of its inhabitants you tend not to care about zero sum games. |
Anyone who KNOWS he or she cannot handle it, does not have the CAPACITY should not deceive himself or herself and lie like Nigeria that he or she is ready. It will take a strong will backed by solid intellect and adequate resources to avoid getting infected. The virus is highly contagious. Very easy to contract. Make no mistake about this. I have been out to work on and off throughout the lockdown and I can tell anyone that cares to listen that preventive protocols and safe practices are mentally draining and highly distracting. It will affect productivity no doubt until new post covid habits are fully formed. And that is for someone as in my case who controls his working environment completely. Honestly I just donot know how the generality of Nigerians are going to survive this especially those not on top of all the factors surrounding their productivity. My advice is, just live each day at peak awareness, extreme care and fortitude while awaiting the vaccine in months to come. IT WILL BE A VERY HARD TASK TO STAY SAFE. A VERY HARD TASK INDEED. |
oyokometer:What is your solution to the economic fallout. Everyone knows the lions are roaming on the streets but will you wait till the lions drop dead from hunger till you go out. The initial fear surely must give way to survival strategy. We must learn to live with Covid 19 just as we live with ebola, HIV, measles and even malaria. The initial fright must give way. We are a human beings with the intellect to survive and overcome these single cell wild beasts. |
Sedentary lifestyle is the cause of most of these things. When all your life is spent lounging around entertaining family and friends. An active working life is the one guarantee of a long, healthy life. |
Actually the head is for carrying loads if you care to THINK deeply. |
Plus10:There will be a few but I don'tthink phydical lications is what the scriptires were talking about. Everyday people are born into the world which represents the new lands or territories refered to. |
Covid 19 is defined by two things: Lifestyles and Leadership. Get is right and Covid 19 will be a walk in the park. Get it wrong and you will court disaster. If this virus hits the main agricultural zones of Nigeria, we are inserious trouble. No doubt. |
Vaccinations have never been mandatory on an individual basis and should never infringe peoples liberties. For a global pandemic vaccinations should be optional. If a person is protected he should not be concerned if another is not. Bill Gates should understand the concerns of people. Afterall it is all about people. |
When we were shouting close tfhe border, close the border because we donot have the capacity to lockdown, this is part of the result. They were apt to copy economies that were prosperous and robust before covid (BC). Where are the 'we are ready' gang today. Everything is in tatters. We have lost the economy and relaxed the so called lockdown with cases escalation thereby losing the pandemic battle as well. We have gained absolutely NOTHING. Just as I thought will happen a couple of months ago. All due to wishy-washy leadership. What will it have cost us then to closed our international borders to human traffic at the end of January, send all our soldiers to man them amd kept our economy going. Perhaps Access Bank will have toiled to find a reason to downsize rather than capitulate so easily to the forces of capitalism. Remember this was the poverty capital of all humanity BC. |
You will have thought that the embarassment of poor adminstration with regards to the pandemic response will have led them to appoint the head of a key intervention agency with a resume as long as the list of Covid 19 victims and one with more bags of experience than all the spoilt rice being distributed. But alas, old habits die hard. It is so easy to see how we got here and it won't take a genius to tell where we are heading. |
I hope that at the next opportunity Nigerians will put intellect and competence in charge of affairs at all levels. Covid 19 has been an absolute paint stripper, revealing just how weak, disorganised and impotent the Nigerian state has become. |
A time will come when public universities will be abandoned just like the goverment's pandemic lockdown because of failings in organisation and resource management. No parent will understand or accept his ward to be slaughtered on account of a desire for higher education. If the goverment cannot guarantee the safety of students in universities then it should seriously think of letting them go to private hands that can better organise, secure and resource them. |
The structure that puts 250million free in the hands of one man is the problem not the man. Nigeria's structure is just her downfall. No man in the world will do the right thing in this kind of situation. Just look onto the United States and see the structure behind their own pandemic war and the attendant palliatives. The layers of intersecting scrutiny and stakeholder involvement that you just cannot find any crack to hide in. |
Biancah:What is ticking off Wike these days. Just bitching about everything. |
I simply cannot see how you can stop the inordinate hunger for foreign imports without floating the naira. Not having an open, market driven currency exchange rate will continue to fuel the fire ravaging local content and destroying REAL productivity. Whatever we import today is a strategic weapon against our economy and Covid 19 has proven that we can neither be economically safe or prosperous that way. |
Gkemz:Hmm....one positive of Covid lockdown. Probably the sole casualty was the poor, damned security man. |
Abagworo:I see. Then the cause of the collapse is evident. Alteration was the likely cause. In that case Mr. Ihedioha and his associates have a lot of questions to answer. |
Abagworo:Really, for how long was he governor?. To design (redesign)and build this will take more than a year without tower cranes which I cannot see in the picture moreover the decay observed....depending at what stage of completion it was purchased. |
Nefort:Indeed. Geoglogical conditions can change due to external factors. A simple change in the drainage system in a neighbourhood can alter the ground conditions and threaten significant civil structures. |
AtikuNetwork:The superstructure looks (looks can be deceptive) well organised (designed and built) so I suspect the foundations which are usually the points of problems when transitioning from the dry to wet season. It could also be that the building plan has been amended. 7-storeys is an unusual elevation. |
drealzum:That was a humanitarian gesture (although some will rightly insinuate it is na.ked PR) but it is also wrong to accuse them of helping out despite their difficulties. It is called sacrifice and everyone at every level does it. People give not because they have excess but they give inspite of the fact they are in need too. In the past days and weeks people have given their neighbours food to survive and had to tighten their belts too. That is normal. Russia sent medical materials to the US weeks ago but today they are facing shortages. Turkey likewise is sending stuff out that they lack. The United States has promised us ventilators despite the fact they are the present epicenter and have not reached their peak. Remember also that Accessbank like others is owned by shareholders who may have a philantrophic outlook and giving to the public, their customers despite their own difficulties is in fact a noble ideal. |
Horlamidei:If you are out there as a worker in any company whether unionised or not what I suggest is to be proactive and meet to make offers to your management before they act. That was a suggestion I gave a lady in employment last week who feared disengagement. Rather than sit back in fear, get on the offensive in a cerebral manner and offer discounts in a graduated manner and with set parameters. There are few establishments which will not be willing to listen to their staff at this point in time. The realities of this pandemic are that it will affect everyone economically. No worker out there should pretend it will not because those of us privileged to run businesses see the figures and know what will happen. |
Midex88:You simply cannot question economic decisions of private enterprises in a capitalist system. |
sisisioge:No one is forced to go out. If you as an individual or an organisation cannot manage the risk then stay indoors till a vaccine is developed. The government has transferred liability to the citizens since it cannot cope. Told you folks this is how this thing will end. We will give up without a handle on corona and after destroying the economy. Heads or tails, we lose....the story of Nigeria. |
Bobyro:We like it like that. Keeps capacity manageable and quality up. Most of my lines are 9mobile. |
