No comment. Said enough about this disaster. Let us continue the capital flight to China. Real leaders like Trump are saying no to economic cataclysm and is unwilling to see his country slaves to the beast from the east. |
Fantastic achievement. Rail is the way to go between the great cities of Nigeria. How I wish state governors could just place an embargo on the development of new roads and place those resources to linking the states around them by rail, this nation will open up in ways unimaginable and inflation will be dealt a severe blow. All they need to do is one major rail station in and around the state capital and a standard line to the border of their states where the next state takes over. Just one or two terms of goverment and the country will be completely interlinked with cheaper and more efficient transport services. Then the rolling stock, the business end will be private sector run with royalties going to government, the owner of the rail lines. |
Since you know what it is and possibly believe what it can do, the result is inevitable. It will happen just as you believe. These things are of the mind. The power to kill, destroy, impoverish, prosper starts with the mind. If you want to prevail against such, STOP believing in them, cease to regard them. What I see here are strange articles on the ground, like a childs playground, period. I have scant regards or impression for tribal stuff so nothing coming from any back water can have any effect on me whatsoever. If these things were/are so powerful they didn't stop slavery or colonislism and neither have they helped Nigerians to better their country and defeat her enemies today. |
Platony:Hmmm...and you sit, your houses literally float on millions of tons of hydrocarbons...the only light you see is from the blow out stacks flaring gass endlessly and when it rains the soot comes falling down. You are like a man in the famous igbo proverb who lives by the river yet washes his hands with spittle. Then when you want to fetch some in a calabash to survive, the almighty government shuts you down with venom. And we say this is a normal and acceptable way to live.....? |
Okoyeebows:Indeed poverty is a mental ailment. Cripples the mind long before the body. And is highly contagious. Those kids will be lucky to escape from a life a depravity. |
Prosperity is not a location but a state of mind. Madam, get your mind developed. Learn a skill and improve your value....at least for the children's sake. |
dont8:So what is wrong with hair glowing. Is it necessary that he wants his hair to continue growing. He is done with mass, now he wants a mane similar to an Argentine thoroughbred. |
Yujin:Well, everyone has a different view when they describe the elephant but the essence of what he is saying is that for a country to develop it must seek to outperform itself by organising society around near impossible taskings as a basis for its survival. That is the way I see it. America did not wake up, strolled to the supermarket to get their first carrier. They were in a recession when the second world war started and needed carriers to survive the Japanese invasion. But through bonds and the sheer will of the people built an awesome industrial capacity which spurred them to economic prosperity and world dominance long after the war ended. What he is saying is that hardship should not be terminal and defeatist but by identifying big prospects, leadership can galvanize and motivate the people into development way beyond their capacity and this can potentially be definitive for generations to come. Ask yourself what great task or demand has your government put on you that would transform your country for good and make it great..... none. They demand nothing because they have nothing to offer. No ideas, no inspiration, no vision. Today, Nigeria is for all intents and purposes in a recession and needs for example, electric power to spur industrialization. What does leadership do (as we have heard)... take a 1 billion dollar loan to finance a dam. Can you say this is visionary leadership. Can you say this is inspirational leadership. Can you say this is leadership that can get things done. What if China becomes an enemy/adversary tomorrow, what happens. But do we have the capacity to provide power on our own, yes we do. Do we have the resources, yes we do. But it is up to leadership to extract these from the country and to do that you have to be visionary, passionate and enlightened. It is not easy, but the process of development was not easy for any nation you dare to envy today. |
plaindealer:It is clear you are grossly ignorant and have no idea how nations develop. You only needs to sit back, get some history books and read. What the fellow was trying to put across in no uncertain terms is that this country needs a big, themed, national, industrial focus that will kick start the economy just as the second world war coalesced the will of the American people around industrialization and made them a super power just a decade after the 'Great Recession' but like most Nigerians these things are just too compkex for you to understand. You rather live in a world of sentiment. The sentiment that makes this country worse every passing year. The dangerous and costly space race of the 50's, 60's and 70's and the technologies derived from it has ensured that America has been the dominant technological power for 50 years when it was not always so. Silicon valley owes its existence to the battles with the Russians back then. Today America is a magnet for every technological visionaire, a place where their ideas and dreams can come true. Every one with an idea wants to go there to implement them because of the possibilities unlocked since the 40's and 50's. Today a South African, Canadian immigrant called Elon Musk has set his signts to dominate the internet by proposing to launch 4,000 sattelites into low earth orbit over the next few years. When this people speak, just shut it and listen. When the fellow talks about building an aircraft carrier, better sit back and think deeply about all what he says and what it means in the larger context. It may be the only way out for this tragedy called Nigeria. |
Upside down country. Feudalism just reeks everywhere. Who should be visiting who. Who should be caring and compassionate about who. |
komodapson:What is so difficult about building a dam that you cannot do it via direct labour. Is that how China developed. The bulk of the cost of dams is civil works (cement, sand, stones and steel rebar) and the turbines and generators can be bought off the shelf these days. Judt trading our destinies. We are like a middle class family that employs a battalion of cooks, drivers and all manner of domestic help. The next generation will certainly live in penury simply because they will grow to know nothing and will inherit nothing having spent all on the comforts they should have avoided. After 60 yesrs of independence, tnere are certain things visionary leadership should be doing to get this country working for itself. |
Yes. The left hand cannot do what the right hand is not aware of. Your wife is you if truly two has become one. What you have is hers and what she has is yours. As a matter of fact every man should strive to get his wife as close to his mother (parents and vise-versa) as possible. The caring, emotional side of women is best suited to care for parents especially when they begin to age and certain needs are better handled on a woman to woman basis. So not only should she know, it is better she handles those needs on your behalf. These produce some of the best family relationships I have seen. |
Why should soldiers be used for personal protection services when in developed countries civilian contractors do that even in war theatres. And expatriate contractors for that matter not even diplomats or other important foreign citizens for that matter. Why this continued decay in our security apparatus and the misuse and abuse of military institutions. Why should soldiers guard individuals. What is happening in this sick country. What is the police for please. If the police cannot do its job it should be disbanded. This is a democracy and the result of soldiers on the streets and in proximiry to citizens results in tragedies like these. |
No comment. Not interested. Said enough. Off to Warri this weekend for inspection and ground breaking. New business at hand. No time for nonsense. |
Even minimum wage the Swiss cannot get. Okay let us take out another World Bank loan to pay him. |
plaindealer:Apt. Our structure is just self defeatist. We can never develop like this. |
The pun never ends... |
Then it hit me again. Pol Phut, the notorious Cambodian dictator of the 70's who wanted every man, woman and child to head to the farms to create his agrarian utopia and murdered 2 million who did not fit that narrative or rebelled against it.... Once again, is this government a closet Socialist one or am I just losing my mind. What is really happening. Are we going to see the Berlin Wall come up around Nigeria very soon or the mine fields of Pnong Peng. Hmmm....socialism on the rise. |
Oga Minister, agriculture is not a youth/aged matter but one of investment in technology. All the challenges we have about agriculture are not about manpower but the acquisition and deployment of the means to increase crop yields, fight desertification, pests, floods, warehouse cattle and process products for long term storage. It has nothing to do wirh personnel. Agriculture in other parts of the world donot have demographic coloration. Like any other business it is open to all ages, sexes.and backgrounds. The Minister should stop his obsession with the players and focus on the health of the game. A good football team like any successful, winning team in any venture will have a combination of all ages. The youth bring the vibe and energy, while the aged bring the experience and temperament. Tim Cook of Apple is grey haired while Elon Musk of Tesla is what you may define as youth. Both demographic are needed. Mr Minister should focus on the development of agriculture and spawn what is required for its success. |
Food prices arw of no consequence to me but tje prices of syeel products, one my main raw materials is just something else. Every year at this time there seems to be a cataclysmic rise that aifts local producers ans closes a number of them. |
15ssDRIVE:Okay start work now and let us build a critical mass of opinions that this has to stop. And we wil take it to the end which is a complete restructuring of this country which in its present state lends support these tragedies. Legislators are direct representatives of the people and should be paid by the people as messengers to represent them. Twenty years after the reemergence of democracy, we feel it is time the government stops spoon feeding democracy. If I want to send you to deliver a message for me in Abuja, it is I that should pay not the recepient especially if the message is in my interest and against that of the Executive. That is why they scant work for us. The wrong person is paying the bills. |
contigiency:Lazy name calling again. Oga, the bulk of those are newly elected. What did they promise in exchange for your vote just a couple of months ago. That is the question. What did you demand of them... nothing. You expect an institution to build or reform itself.... you must be joking. If a protest group springs up right now against this matter, be honest. Won't your primordial instincts kick in and you start blasting away along tribal or religious lines... |
15ssDRIVE:Well, the money will just go somewhere else in government where it will be equally mis-spent. If this is your solution, you are just part ofthe problem. Just evading or avoiding your responsibility of being a key stake holder in the function of government. If someone contests down the line and promises to cut this fat from government, will you work with him to do that.... or begin to analyse his geo political antecedents... or fall for some savvy commercial and then go to bed... |
seunoyeleyep:Well, that is the problem. Ignorance is widespread in society. Folks only respond to the 'what', but haven't a clue about the 'why'. How many people know how government works, how functional societies are built.... few. So its typically down to tribe and religion and personalities instead of performance and plans and institutions. Look at the present scenario. They elect a President because his brand is 'anticorruption'...and donot vote his opponent because his brand is 'corruption' so society thinks thus is the way out of corruption... by electing brand names. Then they go to sleep, wake up in the morning amd see that virtually nothing has changed. Like them I buy a super sports car and drive it all around until it breaks down because I did not service it.... because I have no clue what a machine needs to keep it going...so here I am complaining about the very government I instal and empower because I have no clue that I need to 'run' the government I elect and service it with regular direction, advice, criticism and protest to make it do the work for which it is elected. But here in Africa the vestages of colonialism demand that we all stay silent, obedient and subservient to prove our patriotism while thise we elect are held in god like status, leaders or rulers that cannot err. This is the result. Nigerians should just get educated about this democracy thing before they die in frustration. To have so much power and influence yet remain in hoplessness is more than a tragedy. Just look at your peers in the developed nations of the world. Politicians literaly tremble at the sound of their feet. |
socialism on the march.... at least we are beginning to see the divergence of the polity into the usual left and right spectrums that operate in other climes. What next... a statue of Lenin at Eagles' Square.... |
Cletus77:Not true. |
preacherz:More of what abeg . What is the difference between a hotel and a mall. We are talking about industrialization here. China is about to lose a chunk of its manufacturing capacity due to US tariffs and the likes of Bangladesh and Vietnam are likely to step in. That is what creates the true wealth that brings sustainable prosperity. Making stuff the world needs and doing it better, cheaper, faster than anyone else. Is it the poverty striken Nigerian that will be filling his closet with Adire. For goodmess sake make stuff the rich world needs even if it is just sneakers. Vision less leadership. Just piss poor strategic thinkers. The country has scant electricity. You'd have thought any state government with clout and financial muscle will have dragged the best the solar power industry has to offer for example and Nigeria will be the global capital of renewable energy.... because we have none.... no they won't. Continue building shops afterall everyone has built a shop on his fence. What is the freaking difference between this and a gas station... and who told him adire is a critical need in Nigeria or an international best seller for that matter. |
Though I have serious concerns about how this man manages our piggy bank but when you consider the relative weakness of such a position in Nigeria I guess the best we can hope will result from continuity. |
obiekunie1:That part of Utako off Okonjo Iweala is purely residential. In the Abuja masterplan parts of residential area are deisgnated for mix use, hotels, religious centres, shopping centres and but the likes but nightclubs is just taking it too far. Those should be situated on or just off major highways not besides residences, blaring obesecne music all night and having dodgy folks roamimg about into the early hours of the morning. It is just not for such locations. |
makizee:Passed there like four times today. It is floored. Good riddance. |
More than a long time. Their era at the top is clearly history. The problem is management and with the young Glazer in charge I cannot see the status quo change until or except the club is sold. And even that is highly unlikely as potential suitors with deep pockets are more likely to invest and take over an Everton or a Wolverhampton than an expensive liability. |
Representing the north, west and arguably east and central Africa. |
