That is not a sound leadership quality and not a determinant of performances expected in exchange for the mandate. If you want Mr Ihedioha to succeed, pressurize him to. |
JastSiryin:True. And you can bee wretchedly poor and yet materialistic. Look at societies. The Scandinavians are the riched groupings of people on earth yet their lifestyles are basically dour. Nigerians on the other hand and Africans are world poverty leaders yet are seriously materialistic, excessively greedy and unrepentantly selfish. It remains a thing of mental disposition. Even the Bible says: '.... there is a man who freely gives yet increaseth and another who witholds more than necessary and 'gravitates to poverty'. Obviously you can only give what you have. So it is not about quantities, values or volumes but about the way the soul is set. |
Many more years shead O great warrior. |
What on earth will put me in those places at night. Abuja has no night traffic jams. You can get anywhere within ten minutes. Most banks in Central, Wuse and Garki have poor parking so I drive to CBD to use the ATM's there where there is secure parking, less crowed and even fewer undesirable elements hanging around. All those Areas this and that are just disgusting places filled with the worst of Nigeria. Can't go there for anything. |
I like the fact that everyone gets a front row seat. |
ciggy000:That is what 'free' things 'cost'..... if there was a N500,000 refundable caution fee the place will be sparkling like the banquet hall at Buckingham Palace. |
darkelf:Exactly what is the difference between leaving here in chains and leaving here with a visa and letter of employment. You are still going to advance and better a society not yours at the expense of your failings to better that which you leave. It remains slavery. Who takes up your past Nigerian citizenship. Who replaces you in Nigeria if not bandits and pirates from the subcontinent masquerading as herdsmen. |
fairfora:Nobody asked Africa not to build a strong, world conquering empire. Nobody stopped Africans from crossing the Mediterranean to plunder Europe and enslaving them instead to create wealth. Stop making excuses for a continent inhabited by humanoids that are unable to see beyond selfishness to organise themselves into effective, progressive societies. With all their technology, advancement and wealth you still see them serve one another in honour and respect. They still hold their leaders in high regards and leaders care for their citizens. They cooperate to build a values based society and exploit anything to do that. When will the typical African learn this. That the world does not end with money but values. YES, IT WAS BECAUSE OF MONEY, PERSONAL GAIN WE WENT INTO SLAVERY. SELLING OURSELVES AND ONE ANOTHER FOR PERSONAL GAIN. It happens till tomorrow. Half of Nairalanders are abroad in slavery. The rest here including our President will move out at the slightest opportunity to find and enjoy what we cannot summon the will to create here. WE MUST STOP BLAMING SLAVERY FOR OUR INDIVIDUAL AND COLLEVTIVE FAILINGS. |
Now this is real class. Not senseless money without a soul. This is a thousand years of tradition, culture not lost to evolution and wealth not lost to squander, not fritted away to foreign lands but accumulated from climes afar and preserved for generations to come. And the woman at the centre of it all. My all time favourite personality since I was a kid, HRH Queen Elizabeth, aging gracefully, ever willing to serve and to preserve the noble institution she presides over. Having seen and welcomed all but one US Presidents from Harry Truman to Donald Trump over her 67 years on the throne, she no doubt will be missed when her time is done. Sheer class. |
I won't be holding my breath. Nigeria football is not advancing quickly enough. |
When I speak about the Island they say I am demarketing Lagos. But when 70 percent of your GDP is located on a sliver of land that is not only gradually sinking into the Atlantic in the face of the fact that 8 Pacific Ocean Islands have been submerged since 1900 and 5 Australian coast islands have been lost since the mid 20th century, it beats your imagination why any strstegic, long term thinking person or government wil continue to invest there when the cost of living and insurance is bound to escalate till it falls off a cliff. The oceans worldwide are rising 3mm per year and is set to double that over the next decade as more polar ice is released. That is about 17cm since 1900. It may not seem much to the lay man but 3mm to the engineer is significant. It will alter the slope of all drainages making them less and less effective in moving stormwater and increases the rate of silting. This means bigger and longer lasting flooding on the island and peninsula going forward. Visited the beaches last December and was shocked to see how far tne oceans had encroached since I was last there in 5 years ago. Those places donot have a viable long term future. |
Tell the President that he should be at the fore front of uniting Nigeria by his words and deeds. |
Bolognese:If you have driven in a motorcade you would know there are no traffic rules. No specific lanes, no specfic speed, no specific turns. No traffic lights, no poluution or noise restrictions. Everything is decided by the road runner. |
Once worked in that area. Those folks areas tough as nails. Didn't enjoy my tour there at all. |
Not supporting fornication in any way but her disposition is surely a clue as to why he rather be with someone else. |
Fantastic news. More comments later when the details emerge. Good one from the government. These are the fundamental changes we want to see. |
I just don't have the time to get into some complicated psycho-analysis on this matter here. So I just address those intending to marry. Get a partner that does something for a living. That has some purpose to live for, some vision to pursue, that you can and should both team up to accomplish. Some sky high, lofty humanitarian ideal that leaves your body banged up every evening but your soul absolutely fulfilled. Give your life a direction to take it away from mundane issues. The vast majority of martial upheavals are caused primarily by idleness, where one party is not operating at full mental and physical capacity. You came home to see her watching t.v. She is obviously an idle person so what do you expect. Her mind is unoccupied so she has room for avarice in there. Marriages and couples get messed up for the most mundane of issues. Leaving the toilet seat down, squezzing the toothpaste in the middle, leaving the shoes on the floor. These are the stuff of folks who donot know what marriage is all about. If your partner has nothing doing or is operating sub-optimally there is nothing wrong in asking him or her to join you in your pursuits. I know of wives that pick up their husbands at work, assisting him in completing his day's tasks to enable them an early evening together. I know of husbands that stay up late and spend the weekends assisting their wives with assignments, marking scripts and writing reports. Those things bring them together. Those families remain strong, united, purposeful and end up prosperous. You can imagine what will have happened if Bill Gates had married a bimbo. Half his wealth will have gone in some nasty, idleness induced divorce instead of to the truly poor and needy of which Melinda is an integral part and a key inspiration. Get married to the right person for the right reasons and if mistakes have been made, correct them. Get your marriage a focus. |
Since everyone appears churchy and biblically scholarly let me chip in my view from another perspective. The read from Proverbs 29:2 - Contemporary English Version of the Bible is pretty apt in describing the situation and is very instructive to both sides of the argument. It says: '...when justice rules a nation, everyone is glad, when injustice rules, everyone groans...' I like this version because it is not personal political. It does not describe a person, rather it speaks of a system, it speaks of what should be happening to either cause 'gladness' or 'groans'. It speaks of why the rich man cannot sleep with two eyes closed on accout of the vexation of the poor. It speaks of why insurgencies spring up here and there. It speaks of why crime is getting rampant, why suicides escalate. So Mr. Kumuyi or Shehu Sani can decide to personalize it if they choose but the truth is clear, God will not force any quality on leadership. His primary interests remain His constituency, His people and their salvation. If any desires to aspire to leadership in any earthly setting be it government, politics or even church administration and cannot turn the wheel of authority towards justice and equity, then he is bound to experience not gladness of the people but groaning. The summary of this is stark. If Nigeria was better run, Nigerians will be glad. Mr. Kumuyi cannot legislate otherwise. By the way there are interesting synonyms related to the word 'groan'. Here are some: 'cry, sob, tears, agonizing, grieving, mourning, sorrowing, suffering, weeping, hand-wringing, regret, complaint, outcry, protest, anguish, grief, heartache, heart break, sorrow, woe...' courtesy of Merriam Webster. These are the products of injustice on a people by their leaders. Does that exemplify Nigeria now or not. |
How I wish Nigeria was run like this. By strict rules that bend for no one to establish values we can all identify with and agree to. This country will be transformed in no time. |
9jaRealist:You can say that again. They love the big life yet their townhouses are flooded every rainy season and the road to their unkempt villages resemble swiss cheese. Nigerians are just a socially irresponsible, self-centred specie. |
boban007:The same affects you if you happen to notice and recall that. |
You just donot know what to say when you read comic tragedies such as this. Excuse me ma. Are you talking to yourselfbecause the audience should be the one saying this. And if someone in your position complains, what do you expect the citizens of this country to do. Can we say this is a new high or low in governance. That those in authority are complaining about themselves.... |
Sad. RIP. |
Nukilia:Indeed. I once said that black resources in the hands of Nigerians far outstrips our GDP. |
Belial06:I disagree. There are far worse topics posted everyday. Topics like these however can be instructive through qualitative reasoning. The big lessons here are clearly the pitfalls of polygamy and the inability to prepare for transition via a Will. |
Why should a state like Bornu employ 12,000 people. What are these people doing exactly. A 12,000 staff strength is the preserve of the very top tier corporate entities, Fortune 100 Nigeria standards generating several billion naira monthly in revenues. Thus country is a joke, honestly. Why won't you see only 135. You can imagine the Dangote walking into his office and only 5 out of 500 folks are at work. |
Tick-Tock, Tick-Tock.....dear Mr. Ihedioha....time is going, political capital is running like a DISCO prepaid meter. Better get going before the lovely lady warns of low political credit. |
aremuforlife:Oga if the Nigerian 156km of tracks includes compensation you can imagine how much compensation a 560km rail line will attract. You think we are toddlers. Or the Ghanian line runs through uninhabited desert. They too have gas lines and military formations. Stop being clever by half. Learn to demand for accountability if not things will only get worse. It is your money, your country. |
Nice. I like that. And I hope it will anger those in the Niger Delta that see this Federal structure as suitable to purpose. Talk of a man living by the riverside and washing his hands with spittle. If the resources were to be domiciled in the regions who will bother asking for permission to establish an institition critical to its development. This system is just too overbearing and I hope the pain of disappointment will reflect in the next polls of 2023. |

I really donot care about figures but intent because figures are either expediture or investments. The question Nigerians or citizens of any civilised country should ask is, are these investment trips or some tourism escapade. Nigerians deserve to kniw that if these trips are investments, what the ROI has been over the past four years and what we expect to receive as tangible dividends for such an amount in 2019/20 and beyond. |
KristaPretty:His father and grandfather were worse than this and both lived to a ripe old age and died of natural causes. It is the people, the citizens who are dead while pretending to be alive. If not are there no hot heads that will overthrow his sadistic government in a heartbeat. |
