Lonelypacifist6:Exactly. Anywhere the States has strategic interests it wants to weaken or keep divided. It is a normal game of statemanship. |
phetto:Natural. Arabs and Persians don't see eye to eye for a thousand years. Even Islam couldn't unite them. Persians consider themselves an ancient global power, an educated, independent race and not subservient to anyone. That is why they could get rid of their monarchy due to popular uprising while feudalism continues across all Arabia except Egypt and Iraq courtesy of strong military leadership. As a mater of fact if not for the rallying point in Islam in the 79 revolution Iran wil have transited to a pluralistic society and perhaps become a poster child for multiparty democracy. They have strong democratic tenets and conduct credible elections despite being a theocracy so its hard to find widespread divisive dissent that fractures and weakens society. Iran is strong and so its neighbours and the United States don't like that. Apart from ancient rivalry, the revolution created panic and fear across all the monarchies of Arabia and they quickly rallied themselves with the help of the United States to stifle all internal republicanism and ideologies to this day (This gave rise to the Osama Bin Laden story). They have all (from Saudi to the Emirates and Kuwait) all rightly accused Iran of fanning the embers of revolution in their countries so their hatred for the Iranians will not go away soon. On the part of America the threat of Iranian style revolution is real. It fears the establishment of theocracies all over Arabia. It fears that populist governments will hold it by the jugular and destabilise its economy via oil warfare so it is comfortable with feudal rule that lends support to corruption and pliability. It wants to hold governments where it has strategic economic interests by the puppet strings. It finds dealing with a monarchial family easier and cheaper than dealing with a nation with a parliament and legislative representation. One is easier than a thousand. Permit me to say (at the chagrin of some Nigerians) that it is the reason why the west (Europe and America) given a choice will prefer Nigeria be ruled by the north. The British will say this as well via their experiences in colonial rule. The feudal north is far easier to deal with than the more republican thinking south. So at every opportunity they whisper in the ear of their leaders the need to maintain feudal rule and scare them with stories of hurt should Nigeria become a proper Republic. Its all about resources and the power they give to negotiate liberty. The Iranians have left the party. There can never be a meeting point with its Arabian neighbours. That bus has long gone. |
Asshurbanipall:I donot think it is wholly due to US pressure. I think China is getting a bit tired of North Korea. China can offset any effects of sanctions at its own risk but the Communist solidarity is just not as it was two decades ago. China is tired of socialism. They want to wear Armani suits too and if Kim won't, they will be filling for divorce. So North Korea has to walk the dark alleyways alone looking for who to spend the night with for a 'candy bar'. |
Yameater:Probably was initially written in a foreign language and translated verbatim to english by those dodgy translation software and 'lifted' by the lazy blogger without proof reading it....and posted by the lazy mods without vetting.... |
dapillar:Iran is not Iraq. Iraq is a country, Iran is a civilisation. Civilisations cannot be defeated by the means of men. I think tne United States is miscalculating here. There is a reason why the rest of the Arab world fears Iran. They have history and prophecy on their side. With all the intel, sattelite flyby's, CIA sabotage, and arms the United States gave Saddam Hussein in the Iran/Iraq war of the 80's,tney still could not dent Iran. As a matter of fact, the losses and economic catastrophe of the war, the unrepayable debts owed to its Arab neighbours who goaded it on to war against Iran caused Saddam to turn against them in the 91 Kuwait invasion when they hounded him to repay. His anger was that he went to war for them but they turned theur backs leaving him broke and vulnerable. The rest is history. Iran on the other hand is still maintaining and flying the F16's bought during the time of the deposed Shah. They are the only Mideast Islamic state with an indeginous industrial and military complex courtesy of sanctions they have endured for a whole 40 years. They are economically vulnerable but their resolve is solid. |
prizequest:My concern here is a wider context of this whole middle east thing. And the grave dangers it portends. You must realise that there is a three way power struggle in that region between Sunni Islam, the Shiites and the Jewish state of Israel. The United States being the largest consumer of crude oil and the biggest economy in the world has taken a strategic position of defending Saudi Arabia, the largest producer in that region, a key stakeholder is global economic stability but also the home of Sunni/Wahhabism since the 50's. Their friendship and alliance is purely one of economics. You give me oil I can afford, I protdct you against Iran. Iran is the bogey man. An offshoot of the Persian empire and custodian of the Shiite sect which it defends throughout the eorld. Tjey are steeped in ancient tradition as a people that DONOT BOW to others. They are basically Persians, donot consider themselves Arabian, conquered and will resist to the very end. They have oil but not enough to make a strategic difference to the United States and of course they know this and kicked out western interests in the 79 revolution to chart their course when they saw the Saudis cozy up to the States and 'polluting' the holy land. There the fallout. Israel is a benefactor of the United States courtesy of the Second World war and the establishment of its state. Their relationships with the two neighbouring power blocs is one of, America's friends are our friends. America's adversaries are our adversaries. They use US might for cover. The US in return uses them for espionage and counter intelligence. Fundamentally Islam and Judaism does not mix. There are serious extremists on all sides. Persian extremists, Wahhabi extremists and Zionists. The US has felt the unruly force of all tnree in the past and it is playing a very dangerious game with a match and a keg of gun powder in that region. Anything can happen at anytime to explode the alliances and turn the uneasy calm to an outright conflagration because the Persians I know will not back down. They will get nuclear and missile technology by all means despite any present or future adversary then the Mexican standoff will be complete and here the sights will be set for World War 3 and perhaps the end of time. |
Keen to read an obviously interesting and informative topic (for once on this forum) but the mods should work on submitted texts such as these which make for.... very tedious reading, quite frankly. |
This should be the model for the future. Getting large segments of industry off the so called national grid and the centrist way we do things that seems so hard to grow beyond. As I always say the potentials for power generation are massive. We have untapped barren wildernesses in the north where the sun is guaranteed throughout the year for solar, flood prone parts of the south where hydro is a serious but completely neglected potential and all we dance around is gas. Even the current potential of corporate and personal generating capacity far exceeds that of the GENCOS combined and could be tapped at the distribution level through smart grids. Has anyone asked what happens when the college is not in session. Couldn't it sell part of the1Mw cap to the local community and raise revenue that way.... we need to start thinking in this country. Government should incentify power right down to the man on the street and watch how our power needs will be met in an instant without the need for the rabble rousing of their 'World Bank' loans. All these government this, government that is not the way to develop. It does not create an active 'can do' society. Government should merely be an organiser of society and a crucible of ideas. Let the citizens do the work. The potential is there. 3500 solar panels is community potential stuff. Many individuals and corporates already do this but the incentives and framework to commercialise it is not there. |
The mother should be asked some serious question. Parenting mistakes will always lead to embarrassment and heartache. Keeping the kids on the straight and narrow no matter one's background is an onerous but critical task. |
Until this country is restructured... corruption can never end. |
Where are his parents. Were they in court and why aren't they being interviewed at the court gates after trial like you see abroad...asking tje obvious question.... how exactly did you raise the lad from childhood....what did you teach him... |
I don't recognise either. We have too many work free days. All my staff are working. We cannot afford it. |
Good job. Now can you turn your attention to Emuoha, Rivers State. My security bill to run Warri is atrocious. |
The sanctity of marraige and the institution of the family are under serious threat these end times and like all great empires, their end almost always starts from internal decay. Marraige and the family lends itself, needs the church for support and survival. So unfortunate that the church may be catalysing its end. |
He is cheating on you, period. If it has a rough spiky skin, vicious teeth filled jaws and snarls at you, if you like call it a pair of studded sole alligator skin Lucchese boots, na you sabi. |
Yet another emigrant. This should go to an 'AmericaLand' type forum. |
djon78:It is not a law. She may get a husband who is not crazy about food or too busy for such. I eat in my house about 2 months equivalent in the year. I am always on the move. No time in life for sundries. I eat anywhere I can get food when I'm hungry. |
Nothing wrong about that. You were not created to cook. Develop yourself, pursue the purpose God has set for you. You will not be remembered for cooking except you intend to be a Michellin rated celebrity chef. |
NigeriaIsDoomed:My broda, I just taya. And what will it cost to have an exciting, interesting design. Will still cost same to desogn and consume almost the same quantity of materials to build. We have a serious problem with mediocrity in Nigeria and we will be complaining that tourism does not exist. Even our airports have some of the worst designs in all of Africa. Lazy copy and paste architecture. |
RTSC:I think he later denied it. But in modern football anything is possible. |
An inspiration to all folks in all walks of life that an unrelenting pursuit of excellence can only lead to unrivaled success. Not only has he improved Sterling but every single player he has come across in that great City team the past three seasons, and is doubtlessly responsible for elevating the Premier league to the pinnacle of Europe with his ultra competitive game play by which all the teams around him have raised their game and outperformed even their own expectations. The records speak of his achievements. An unprecedented domestic treble that makes nonsense of the charity shield for the first time ever and four premiership teams in the finals of europe all down to him. What impresses me most about him is that I strive to emulate is.... he just wants to get better and better....scary.. The club, Premiership and England FA must do all in their power to keep him for a few more seasons amidst interest from Juventus specifically and any and every team out there that wants a piece of history written in their time.... Legend. |
But if you donot have a strong, credible alternative then how do you stop him from winning. In states where governments have changed politics is virile. Ekiti was a titanic battle but the Fayose juggernaut was railroaded, similarly in Imo where there were multiple political goliaths...where is the competition in Kogi. And this is the problem with Kogi and its people. When I say feudalism is an anathema to development and democracy, this is the proof. The years of the Audu dynasty has not permitted the broadening, deepening and growth of the political space with respect to leadership. Since the Abacha era it was all about Audu and his court. His influence pervaded even the other goverments of Wada and the man before him. And he too violently crushed all opposition while the people watched and cheered. Back then you were either in the Audu camp or not. You think Bello has not learnt from that. He too wants to create a dynasty. This is the result. Even neighbouring Benue stands a better chance at democratic advancement because the political elites there have refused to adopt a monarchical system and appoint a so called 'spiritual leader' or 'political king'. It is the people who permitted this creation that must dismantle it at their cost. They must rise up and cut Bello to size before it becomes too late the way Imolites did. Failure to do that and not only will he win again but after both terms he will 'Jagaban' the state for decades to come and the puppets he will instal are best imagined. Nuff said. PS. I hope Lagosians are watching...right now everything seems jolly. So called 'performance' is used as an excuse to mask lack of democratic development. The feudalism happily supported today will be an albatross in the future. This is certain. There will be a day of reckoning when it will become imperative to change, when society must lend itself to structures for salvation, but the cost will be too severe to bear then to create them. It happened in Zaire. It happened in Ivory Coast. It happened in Egypt. It happened in Togo. It happened in Tunisia. Prince Audu was acclaimed to be a dynamic personality in his time who did good things in the 90's by that standard. Today he is no more. The debts (not monetary) to society he left are being repaid with severe interest today. Kogi doesn't have the political structure to remove Bello nor replace him with something better. He is likely to win again. |
Both are a problem. The whole set are/can be gods. Just as some depend on juju for protection and properity, others depend on money for protection and prosperity. Whatever your soul hangs onto, worships and adores is a god. So those who you think are right by submitting their juju, leaving it on the altar and returning home free may just be as ungodly if their money cannot follow suit. Jesus asked the 'perfect' man to sell all he had and give to the poor but he couldn't because his stuff was a god he worshipped. So sir, the problem of righteousness is not only about juju, it is also about money and the ability of ALL parties to treat money as nothing. Pastors love to covet it so they make all manner of excuses to get it from the congregation. The congregation love to covet it so they make all manner of excuses not to submit it. At the end none will have the righteousness they so seek. So don't be quick to judge. You may have a money 'problem' that makes a quick defence of one and condemnation of the other. Satan is very adepth at subterfuge, at playing one side against the other. OP ask for grace to live for Christ and not for views and positions. |
dominique:What have they done NOT to deserve him. |
krattoss:That is the problem I and the world has with China. You yave said it all, 'copying'. They should be innovative and spend time charting their own course rather than seeking to undermine others by stealing ideas and downscaling them. China has serious credibility problems. Intellectual property theft is a big problem and if you are creative and successful then you won't often like what China does. Most folks who support blindly what the Chinese do have either completely given up a desire to develop independently or have the same dodgy characteristics, like most of our people who go there to clone stuff and bring here to sell which has eroded quality and values in society at great cost to our people and our environment. |
He hasn't gotten me into his slave truck. My social media begins and ends with Seun. Not on Facebook, Twitter, snap whatever. I am in charge of my life and business and doing well. My contacts are basically calls. Documents by traditional email...Whatsapp once in a long while and no chats. My net footprint will remain as small as possible. We have seen this thing a long time ago. They cannot easily get at me. |
For everything progressive on the continent they always go to South Africa. Nigeria is only recognised for its population and oil resources so ypu can imagine the kind of foreigners who will want to come here....Chinese and Indians who care less about the people and their environment because they can identify with poverty, division and extremism themselves.. This country will never be a great tourism destination if we don't give up tribalism, bigotry, religious extremism which makes our inherent greed, selfishness and hypocrisy all the more worse. And without getting more foreigners from across the globe tp visit this country to share their values, hiw do we get the cross polination of ideals great societies require to develop and sustain progress. Nigeria is in a viscous cycle of self destruction. |
Yeah, the neighbours were going through hell every time the club was in session. The area is supposed to be a quiet, residential neighbourhood something lost on folks who donot live in Abuja metropolis. Homes and noisy businesses are not mixed. |
Ishilove:The narrative centers around the woman. She is the loser in all this. She is dead. No one heard about their escapades all these years perhaps until now. She left her home under false pretences. Not absolving the serial philanderer and sexual predator of any blame but under what condition will a goat answer the call of a lion to tango in the bush. You simply cannot ignore her role. Both are equally guilty here. |
Angelfrost:Exactly. Men and women sin in equal proportions. Immorality has no gender specific definition. But these days it is convenient to blame the opposite sex for one's personal failings. |
Product of zero parenting...'born throway' generation... |
Ishilove:So why men bashing when married men mess themselves up with little girls. Why not bash the girls equally. Everyone is hypocritical. |
