Pope22:
Nice one but just one question for you....

I thought the reason why people always crave to become the leader is to make a difference and do something different from and better than his or her predecessor? If someone will repeat same thing done by his or her predecessor, why making noise that he or she is better? The same "assumed" wrongs done in 16 years are still repeating themselves and even worse in the present administration and you are here typing rubbish.
I don't get them. Your boss the chairman sacks the manager whose been working for 16 years because the company is run down. He employs a new manager. Two and a half years down the line the company is worse and a query is issued. A chap in the managers team then says, 'well the previous manager ran it down as well', another says 'indeed he was given 16 years, why can't we have the same time to perform'.....

Folks, the simple psychology of development is that over time failures are less tolerated. For example if a lady courted her first love for '16 years' and he jilted her, I seriously doubt it if she will give the next guy 16 years to perform. As a matter of fact she will be extra cautious, a whole lot impatient and terribly touchy. I will not even add the fact that the new guy comes with a heaven and earth promissory note. In 1999 Nigerians were satisfied just to have democracy, in Jonathan's time Nigerians were satiafied just to have peace, in Buhari's time Nigerians want a higher level.

It will be suicidal to think at the 1999 level thoughtless of using it for comparison. After Buhari I am dead sure the next president will begin to receive the stick within 3 months. Ask leaders of advanced democracies. They get hit immediately after inauguration, some before they even sit down at power, their every step being judged ferociously. Not to talk of a long suffering people that have never known good governance.

Oga. The criticsm is simple. He said he would improve stuff, change stuff, be different so people naturally feel conned. If your fiance had boasted of being a virgin and you cast aside all the other low lives who passed your way only to discover on your wedding night the case was different, I don't think you will be best pleased. People just don't change government or leadership for nothing. When you excuse the present leadership for its failings you fall into the hands of those who are right to say, 'what was the point in changing government if we are to get the same service' For you to be shocked at the criticism he gets shows you are not honest and the reasons for demanding for a change of government in the first place was not honest either. Now ask yourself this. Will you oppose those who will want this government out at the next polls...In view of what I've just said, be sincere.

Honestly this is becoming annoying. Expose him to criminal trial so what. Is he admitting to being a criminal. What is there to fear in a case that doesn't have your name as charged. Once again these so called leaders are pissing in the cup that will one day quench their thirst. You cannot expect a system to function for you when you have no regards for it. It is only in Nigeria that those that swear to uphold the law are the worst antagonists of the law. If this government decides to charge him to court let me see if he will not call witnesses in his defence. If everyone claims 'freedom' then let me see what he will say.

Medics are (and should) be part of any military operation. I stand to be corrected though. Quick recovery, brave men.
Nawa. It is better to read than to write sometimes. Every military outfit in the world has an inhouse medical institution called the medical corps. They form part of every structure from the company level upwards and move with the troops into battle. From the front lines where first aid is given by trained first responders to the rear guard where field hospitals with trained trauma surgeons are located the soldier is expected no less a response than in a civilian setting. Some militaries are equiped with both ambulances and medivac aircraft. What you see in the pictures are first responders. By the way the Nigerian military have some of the best medical personel, equipment and facilities in Nigeria. I know this first hand and have related with a number of them over the years both serving and retired.

Yes corruption is still dealing a heavy blow on Nigeria, it's a huge monster that's difficult to demolish. And yeah, corruption is still the biggest problem in Nigeria, corruption is what fuels the bad governance that keeps the country down.
So what should happen. Buhari should sack all ministers, jail most of them and he himself resigns for complicity? Then who orwhat will govern this country.... you don't seem to understand that this country cannot be governed without the corrupt. In the first instance can Buhari be president if not the failed system. So the solution is to fix the system and let it resolve cases rather than run around cases like a surgeon with dirty instruments seeking to heal an infected patient. It is the institutiins that matter not the cases or the people involved.

If Mr. President is serious and not a beneficiary of corruption he should strip the Minister of Justice the power to prosecute or not to prosecute criminal cases. Let the office of the Public Prosecutor be as independent of the Executive as the Legislature or the Judiciary. Let us the people decide who goes to court and who does not NOT THE PRESIDENT. That is a first important step not these dramatics every week. Institutionalise the fight.

As a test case of what I am saying. If you ask the average Nigerian who should go to court over the Maina case and most others even the diehard Buharists will have indicted members of his cabinet including unfortunately the very person who currently decides who goes before a judge, yes Malami himself. So it is the system that Buhari hides behind to keep his thieving friends and associates clean and clear of the law. It is the system that doesn't work and only restructuring can tame corruption not Buhari or any other perceived saint or superman. Let the people decide by the prosecutor they alone appoint.

The key issue which removed their hero from power was his amorous relationship with corrupt people and corruption. So it isnt surprising that day after day, all they do desperately is try and prove to the world that PMB is equally as corrupt as their hero (most even ridiculously claim that PMB is 'more corrupt' than the past order); no wonder you begin to hear dumb and laughable allegations like, "PMB pocketed $25billion missing NNPc money."

I must confess though, PMB has disappointingly not acted swiftly enough in most corruption scandals happening under his nose. Babachir and the NIA dude, and now Dambazau and Malami, these guys are more loke an albatross hanging on neck of PMB's anti-corruption campaign. He would do well to forget the democracy and swiftly conclude these cases.
Oga. You cannot handle what hou are part of. We are just tired of all these stories abeg. The country is drifting. I am sure yourself never imagined this government could go this rogue this fast when you were casting your vote. But shame will not allow you guys admit it. Just conceed that corruption is not the problem of Nigeria but issues of governance and demand for restructuring. Forget the corruption thing. It has defeated this government and this president hands down.

What are you saying. I don't think you pay commercial electricity bills in this country. 20 million for a university is massively discounted. I can only say they may have proved a low power density argument.
Education › Re: "Babcock University Spends 20 Million On Electricity Monthly" - Vice Chancellor by Reference(m): 5:42pm On Oct 28, 2017
Most likely. When 50 bed hospitals get a monthly bill of close to two million and 30 bed hotels get over a million naira in electricity bills monthly then you can expect an establishment housing thousands of residents to be billed eight figures. The cost of doing business in Nigeria is just prohibitive. We certainly cannot make economic progress this way.

If it is time they need to gather enough cajones to buy a leash to keep Mr President in check or an axe to cut him loose if he become a dead engine, fine. But if it means enough time to buy more brooms to sweep stuff under rocks and into deep dark crevices, then the party will have sealed its fate. It is time for them to quit pretenses and properly institutionalise, revive the power centres, get an ideology and revive its manifesto as a group. The APC is a key component of our democracy we must all nuture to greatness.
Politics › Re: Maina: Pension Thieves Are After My Life For Exposing Fraud by Reference(m): 9:33am On Oct 26, 2017
That is why I have told Nigerians that corruption is not the biggest problem in Nigeria but structure because even a slightly better structure than the one presently operating in the APC power interplay will have made a huge difference in this case. You can imagine that if the APC had a structure in place whereby the cabinet and top operators of the government operated on a balanced keel, with nominees coming from various power centres such as APC - ACN, APC - PDP, APC - APGA, etc in a perfect power balance or equilibrium then it will be much more difficult to have the kind of 'power overload ' we have in Aso Rock behind a lot of the impunity we see today simply because it will be more difficult for corruptive consesuses to be reach as easily as it is now.

Just a little tweek in the structure and corruption is made more difficult. As a matter of fact if not for the Saraki 'coup', the National Assembly will hsve been in Buhari's pocket and impunity will have been worse, made perfectly legal and REPRESENTING OF THE WISHES AND ASPIRATIONS OF ALL NIGERIANS (as the N/A is supposed to be). So Nigerians can see why absolute power is so dangerous. I am sure right now the APC will be regretting why they did not put more rigorous mechanisms in place, better structures to contain the excesses of power at the very top. And they will be seriously adviced to do at the polls ahead of 2019 so that when Mr. President returns for nomination they would have a leash and a very tough collar ready. Failure to be able to contain power will risk more than elected office but the long term viability of the entire party as well.

Structure is all. Corruption CANNOT BE TOUCHED THOUGHTLESS OF FOUGHT WITH OUT THE RIGHT STRUCTURES IN PLACE.
Education › Re: "FG Should Give Special Funding To Private Universities"-Alaafin Of Oyo by Reference(m): 7:56am On Oct 26, 2017
I completely disagree with this. The government should not blanket fund private universities. There are two things it can however do. One is to offer scholarships and grants to eligible citizens to subsidize tuition. The other is to fund research, that is to advance knowledge is specific areas of government interest. And not just throwing money at these institutions which will lead to corruption, mismanagement ans inefficiency.

Government can also, through legislation mandate the private sector to invest in human capital and programs for their personal consumption. This is a more structured, efficient and sustainable model.

What the Legislature should do instead of investigating bull is to set in motion a 10 or 20 year plan to get States out of the Federal wallet and standing on their own financially like legitimate members of a united federating state. Those legislators should realise that they first owe allegiance to their constituents before Nigeria and should be working in the interest of their people. And what better desire can a people have than to he free of the beggings and humiliations of collecting stipends from Abuja constantly. It is utterly shameful.

Set states a target with verifiable percentage milestones they are expected to achieve leading up to a voluntary withdrawal from the federal purse in 10 to 20 years. Then the governors will be forced to find money the way a typical CEO sweats to pay salaries every month. Then the government will no longer employ ten when it needs only one. Then the government will cast aside tribe and tongue for performers.

Nonsense country.

Exactly. In the same state the Chinese are making a killing processing solid minerals. In the same state Dangote has his largest cement plant in Nigeria and one of the largest in all Africa, Obajana. In the same state lies a moribund steel plant. The sjngke kargest industrial complex in all West Africa. Two mighty rivers with immesurable agric, tourism and transportation potentials line its frontage. Kogi is to Nigera what the Netherlands is to Europe, a hub for the movement of persons and goods. It borders about seven states so the potential for commercial activities knows no bounds....yet

Look. Wealth and poverty is not the absence or presence of resources but the mental capacity of a person or people to create and sustain value. The failure over the years (since 1999 and beyond) to elect quality leadership and hold such leadership accountable is what makes the state what it is, a dump. Let no one be deceived. The failure of the Kogi government to perform its financial responsibilities is the best thing to happen to the state and the Federal government must not susidize the failings and incompetencies of the peoples of that state.

If they cannot collectively cast aside the terrible ethno-religious sentimentality that constantly beclouds their politicking and rise from their lazy, ignorant bu.ts to work for the developmemt of themselves, they sincerely deserve to suffer. The biggest regret now is that there is no alternative, no opposition to absorb this implosive energy so Nigerians are taking it full blast.

Can we now see why institutions are better than individuals who will always fail no matter how sanctimonious their facade may appear to be. Proper citizens donot depend ultimately on individuals but institutions to maintain a whole, just and equitable society.

The failure to rebuild the main opposition PDP after the Jonathan era debacle by all citizenry is what causes these recurring scandals. The government DOES NOT FEAR LOSING POWER. They are protected by the weakness of institutions and the divisions of the people. This power overload is what corrupts this government. That is why I am glad the APC - ACN faction is gradually distancing itself from the maistream because quite frankly, it is the only hope the APC has of surviving this government. And it will be too unfortunate for the party to go under because of the present failures. The Tinubu group SHOULD NOT HOLD BRIEF, EXCUSE OR DEFEND ANYTHING THE GOVERNMENT DOES AT THIS MOMENT. At best it should remain quiet and vigilant.

Just like Theresa May loses support within her party over her handling of the turbulent Brexit talks and ranking Republicans openly criticising and undermining Trump in America, the APC as a party should consider its future more important and begin to make the government know in no uncertain terms that they will not support it unconditionally if its brazen acts of impunity donot stop.

Jonathan was brazen and almost destroyed the PDP. Buhari is doing exactly that and for the sake of our democracy the party should seriously consider standing up to him with a threat to cut him loose if he will truncate their aspirations to remain in power. No individual should be bigger than the institutions on which they stand to exercise authority.

My advice.
