As of now, the Presidency should completely ignore the man. His unacknowledgement by Buhari and the Presidency is what has been paining him most. The presidency should not bother to change a winning tactics. Abi oh. Just ignore him the way the the Jonathan administration ignored some and made them look silly or continue pursuing the gnats trying to enjoy the barbecue on a hot summer day and get a fist full of chilli pepper in the eye like Jonathan sometimes did. Buhari should watch out. If the PDP succeeds in hacking into his server he may as well be named President sorry. Whenever Fayose talks just press delete. That's what I do to gnats. This is democracy, but it doesn't mean you should fabricate lies to mislead people. If you're to give figures on how fayose's administration has increased IGR in ekiti, I bet you won't be able to give any meaningful account for that. And how many lies were fabricated by the APC while in opposition and even now while in government. It appears the boot is on the other foot and the government can't stomach it. Do you honestly and sincerely expect Buhari and the APC to rule without opposing voices. If we all chorus the government aren't we risking democracy itself. Can anybody honestly swear that he knew this guy will be guber candidate before the primaries let alone governor. Is that what you call a democracy. Did Lagosians ever ask him questions before electing him. Did he promise anything. He knew who put him there and he will answer to him ALONE. You cannot reap from where you have not sown. Sorry. And for those calling Fashola, hear this. The reason Fashola did all that was an investment in his legacy and political future. He was stocking up on political capital to launch as a heavyweight in the party and the polity. But he had his wings clipped. What will this do to the psyche of Ambode and his minders. Of course, softly, softly, don't do flashy stuff, be conservative and dour. Just do enough to keep them alive but nothing extra to outshine the grand master. Am I surprised. Na. He can't build up institutions because by nature they will become independent and impartial and he can't have that. If it were that desirable our institutions will have been functioning decades ago. To control Nigeria any leader as a matter of necessity subdues institutions for 'peace' and 'stability'. It is a structural problem. If our institutions worked neither Buhari, Jonathan or Obasanjo would have been President. |

babafirst: I get your point but this has gone beyond basic psychology and that is why I used the words 'for the moment' in my earlier comment. For now no basic psychology can bamboozle the world as they marvel at our level of corruption.Infact the only investors PMB will chase away are the foreign crooks who know they cannot fit into the system again.Leaders from other countries have acknowledged problems like this in the past.Even Lee Kuan Yew had to acknowledge the problem of corruption and infrastructural decay in his country after their independence from Malaysia left them even without water. He built confidence by agreeing to stamp out corruption and making Singapore a haven for investors to confidently invest.Sepp Blather has been making noise about no corruption in FIFA till he was drowned in the anti corruption Tsunami launched against FIFA.Last time I remember Coca cola or so was almost pulling out their sponsorship because of FIFA denial of corruption.I understand your point but I tell you if the Indian PM comes to Naija and does not accept the issue of rape or Jacob Zuma comes to Nigeria and denies Xenophobic killings in SA and explain what they are doing about it then I can never send my daughter with my hard earned currency to school in those countries. No one is saying he should deny it. Metuh and the PDP is simply saying he should stop repeatedly putting that as our only offering as a nation and as a people. That it demarkets us. Let me ask you. Is he going to wait till every corrupt Nigerian is in jail before he handles the economy. Can you wait on that. When fire consumes an occupied house, the firemen break into two teams - one to rescue, the other to tackle the blaze. One cannot wait on the other. Wisdom and success in life remains about striking the right balance. I know his vision is a holy country but he has to feed the masses with 5 loaves and 2 fishes. He should be careful not to make the same mistakes as in 1984. |

babafirst: I disagree with Metuh on this one,PMB's comments are proper for the moment.Do you think investors are not aware that corruption is widespread in Nigeria?Travel around the world and read comments about Nigeria in the past ten years and you will get the opinion of foreigners. Some are even advised to be careful when coming to Nigeria. So even if PMB likes let him praise Naija from head to toe the foreign investors and bankers who know the pattern of looting and cash flow/money laundering from Nigeria know the truth. What they want is a leader who would boldly come out and state the problem and won't bury his head in the sand by glorifying corruption by saying stealing is not corruption. They want a leader who can tell them the bitter truth and say he is doing something about it.Or you think JayZ that cruised on Kolla Aluko's yatch does not know the money was stolen through Dizzy baby? The Indonesian leader does not hide it when he mentions the havoc drug trafficking is causing in Indonesia but he accepts something is being done.PMB is right by acknowledging the problem or the investors will continue to think it's an 'old boy how now lie lie president' we still have.Wailers I expect more wailing in reaction to this but the truth is bitter. There is endemic corruption, branding or no branding, manipulation of statistics by voodoo economists or propagandist like Olisah Metuh to deceive foreigners the way they tried to bamboozle Nigerians will not work.Baba let them know you know the problem and you are fixing it! You don't understand. It is basic psychology. What you say is what you are. As a leader what you say is where you go. This is why you lead. The negativity is for the public to portray not leadership because in circles it portrays an inability to contain and handle. It sounds like an admission of failure. Leadership should not be given to emotional outbursts. The Indian PM wouldn't come to Nigeria and reel out his challenges with rape and 'beefgate' or Obama in Kenya telling them about the frustrations with the Republicans, NRA and gun laws even though we know all these. They will eat him alive back home. Buhari is the chief law enforcement officer but he is also the chief marketer and he will be judged on both so it requires wisdom to strike the right balance. That is why I say this anti-corruption thing is not all there is to do. |

The world's poor is into billions. If we have that many taking what does not belong to them then we are all doomed. We should stop joining poverty issues with crime because poverty is relative and proportional to one's mentality and competence. That is I may not have now but if I believe I can work it out and I am prepared to work it out then I am not poor. If I believe I can only steal to survive then what is the incentive to work. Any Nigerian supporting or encouraging or excusing this at any level should be ashamed. There is just too much work out there for the hardworking and diligent. Nigeria lacks everything.
