demobaba1:I've told you guys countless times how democracy works but you insist on personality cults, name dropping, hero worship and flag waving. It all ends badly. There is no political party or patron that can meet the aspirations of a people because wants are unending. Rather than recognize the players why not sit back and appreciate the game thereby you will be satisfied with the marginal improvements as a result of fierce competition. True democracy is all about the game not the players. Save yourself heartache. |
So who is the leader of the PDP to sort out the mess or they too have many leaders. |
omenka:Standard of living is not the problem Nigeria faces but the symptoms, the result of a far greater malaise that if not tackied will just be an exercise in futility. No government no matter how well intentioned or capable can improve the standard of living under this present structure. Ask peoples of multi-ethnic countries what came first, the chicken of economic success or the egg of social justice. |
tobex23:I thought it was the era of 'change' but I was mistaken. Change in government, yes. Fundamental change in ethnocentric structural balances, eh, not yet.... Everything in Nigeria starts and ends here. Corruption is not our problem, restructuring is. |
KelvinGraphics:Told you that insurgencies once started are not easily stopped and certainly not by force of arms alone. Wrong strategy since Day 1. |
My own argument is simple. If the IGR is that good, good enough to repay the loans then why do you need the loans when typically these projects take years to complete. A typical 4-lane 200 mile highway has a typical completion period of 48 months. Rail lines take even longer. Why the rush. Something doesn't add up. Incomes are either exaggerated or expenditure is suspect. Same thing I said for Rivers State. Some of these loans are unnecessary in high income states. My two cents points to electioneering expense recovery. |
tplacid:Same question I was asking about the Wike deal. If you can afford it by earnings, why borrow and pay interest. Is there any capital/infrastructural project that is executed in an instant, no. They take years to roll out so if you earn regularly you should be able to self-finance except if someone is being economic with the truth. |
ITbomb:Hmmm. My own sound bite of 2015 is: '....we have many leaders'. Apparently no one wants to be led in the APC. They all have their hands on the steering. I just hope the airbag is working. |
That is why they say make it public. Silence is a vacumn. Until proven wrong the report is right and from your activities as FCT Minister it is not far fetched. We know what you did last summer. |
I welcome the change in attitude in this asset thing and hopefully it will spread even to the opposition PDP but the truth is that it is a double edged sword. Do you declare so that we know how much you added to it while in office and risk the wrath of the public which will in turn cause others to keep mum or the public keeps shut and swallows bile while these guys accumulate our common wealth provided we know. Can we tolerate honest thieves. Is this not plea bargain in camo. Are we like the wife who just wants to know how many mistresses hubby has and who they are but will remain faithful, loyal and honest?....so abeg help me God because this is bad....this can cause chaos in society and bring the government down....if this was Egypt.... Abeg softly softly dey declare oh, na real double edged sword. |
My oh my. Goodness gracious me. My oh my....this is bad, real bad....but I guess we all asked to see the corpses of these 'accident' victims so we must endure the trauma....really bad. |
chuna1985:Abi oh. Instead of gearing all efforts towards the mass transit system initiated by Tinubu and advanced by Fashola he is leading us down the bush path in search of another white elephant. Isn't it easier to complete something than to start another. Is there any city the size of Lagos without rapid mass transit anywhere in the world. It is not rocket science. |
ayusco85:You say he is the leader of the party and then in the next paragraph you refer to 'party leaders'. Abeg where do you and the APC stand on leadership matters. How many Captains are there on APC Cruise Lines abeg. You can see the effect of Lai Mohammed's gaffe about APC having 'many', 'several', 'host of', 'multitude of', 'battalion of'....leaders....hmmm. Are Saraki and Dogara not in the 'leaders club' as well... I was listening to Timi Frank and Gbenga Aruleba chat a couple of days ago and it is so clear to me that the APC is a chariot not drawn by four horses but by a lion, goat, monkey and tortoise....that is people of completely strange ideologies only held together by name. The way Timi was talking at times left me wondering whether he was refering to his party or some other political entity. I was so certain he would be expelled immediately after the show but...well...he's a leader too I guess. |
absoluteSuccess:Sacrifice of/for industrialization that built the great empires of Britain, Germany, China, Russia and America. Man up. P.S. I hope you didn't quit for buying and selling. That will be the real tragedy. |
For what na. Then why don't they use the IGR to repair the roads. At what interest rate. Thank goodness the bank was mentioned. Will keep a close eye on them in the coming months. |
Government officials and their relations. Always embarassing themselves. Now that this chap has gained publicity he will be a target of rent seekers, black contractors and cartels whether he has any links to government workings or not. This is Nigeria where individuals are taken as institutions so it is just a matter if time for him to embarass the government. The only way out is to build and strengthen institutions. |
LeOstrich:70 percent of their battles were in close confined spaces, please be informed. When a Company goes into a battle it carries an assortment of weapons shared amongst various sections to adapt to changing scenarios typical of assymetric warfare. Typically intel comes in that a group of insurgents are occupying a village. They advance on the village and may engage at distance with more accurate field rifles. They supress the enemy and move in to mop up, house to house. At close quarters the field rifle is clumsy and ineffective, a smaller, handy gun is better. So don't criticise until you have the full picture. In assymetric warfare you need more than one speciality. Our military has found out this at great cost. |
enigmang:The road leading off the roundabout (Parliamentry Village Road) has a slight dip which causes water to settle there. There are drains but these are not properly aligned to compensate so it takes a little while for the floods to abate. And yes, by Nigerian standards Calabar is exceptionally clean. They take pride in sanitation. No monthly environmental sanitation days there and no, they are not a recognised oil producing state anymore (though I think they still retain a seat on the NDDC board) so they essentially struggle like any other non- oil state to maintain infrastructure but they are doing well. Uyo which has more money and better infrastructure is dirtier than Calabar. |
Pangea:Just because Tinubu didn't have his way. Another case of the un-elected trying to exert control over the elected and all the attendant problems. Just like the confusion surrounding the Rivers guber vote in which the APC fielded two candidates - Ameachi and Peterside. Your party had better turn democratic or you will lose power in an instant. If you have not noticed the power greed in the APC top hierachy has stopped the steady flow of ideological defectors from the PDP to the APC just because the party is not democratic enough. The only thing attractive right now in the APC will be to the 'smash and grab' bandits. |
omenka:What we should be doing instead of playing politics is asking proper questions like, what has the money been spent on. How effective have the resources been deployed. Remember a defence budget as in our case comprises two parts: operations as pertaining to wars and administrative as pertaining to preparation and recovery from wars. We seem to forget that this is the longest war Nigeria has faced. Not a brief blowout like the civil war but a slow and dibilitating insurgency. Slow burning wars like that in the Delta and Savannah are notoriously expensive to prosecute and sustain. Endless air patrols by jets, drones, choppers, boats consume huge quantities of stores and maintenance costs as well. A typical artillery shell will cost anything upwards of N 100,000 same for an infantry man's rifle. These are required in the tens of thousands to replace lost, damaged or worn inventories. Training costs money. If it a new platform or system it could take years of expensive orientation. We need to know what is happening so that the country can brace for the necessary sacrifices instead of playing party politics to our collective danger. |
bushdoc9919:See Nigerians. I was saying that massive dis-investment over the decades and especially since 1999 (a widely supported backlash against the institution for its incursion into politics) resulted in a lot of inadequacies we witnessed till date, they were busy shouting corruption and that politicizing the military and its counter-insurgency operations. So we expected that after May 29th the 'pot bellied Generals and their civilian collaborators' will make equip the same army better than their American counterparts, as civil as their Swiss counterparts and as effective as the British SAS. Now under a new regime its same story. We have wasted years playing politics with basic issues of governance. And we will pay for it. |
dvee2:You don't get it. I warned that you guys will be on the defensive for the next 3 years 10 months simply because of the hype of your candidate GMB and the caricature of his opponent GEJ as one of extreme prudence and the other of extreme profligacy. What were your views on Presidential transport: 'He will sell all the jets, he will fly commercial, he will limit his travels, his entourage, etc.'. And you expect no response to this. I remember saying that in Republics the life of a Head of State is always under threat and he needs all the protection he can get but you guys went overboard in desperation for power that you made Buhari what he isn't and what he shouldn't. Not just in transport but also in many aspects of governance be prepared to reap the whirlwind of hype and propaganda. It will be a hell of a 4year ride that will leave yours not Buhari's reputation in tatters because he didn't promise to be a pauper, hermit, commando-in-the-junglesque type most portrayed him to be. |
Well, how do we say....we voted for it so we have to live with it. Once again the prime problem of Nigeria is its faulty structure. |
Anyone who didn't anticipate most of the events that has left this government floundering is quite frankly a political tadpole. I am so, so surprised that Dele Momodu could be this perplexed. I am disappointed at the level of ignorance displayed by some elites. He too was star-struck, like the fans of Newyork Cosmos when a retiring Pele signed for them. |
Etisalat by a country mile. Others are just health hazards. |
Yeah, accidentally tuned into it in Portharcourt yesterday. Serious stuff. Don't know what time say at this time but self determination is a fundammental human right. The East is taken as an appendage of Nigeria in the scheme of things so such moves are expected. The Started ofnthe Union remains precarious. |
Then someone will come here and say that politics is about good governance and that is why the polity votes one way or the other. I will always dispute that. |
adanny01:If Saraki goes so goes the APC's majority in the house even if he goes with only a third of his colleagues. The political gap between the APC and PDP is just that, a gap not a gulf and your party leaders know this. |
cecegorz:The CBN can't do that. That is up to the government. The CBN as custodian of the naira is doing what it can, ensuring that the naira goes only to where it is needed. |
And the chap couldn't afford underwear. Wonder what will have happened if his pants were pulled down... |
ideylaff:And what is it about this Tinubu fellow that you chaps are fighting tooth and nail to uphold above everyone else and above every political party process. This is a fellow who hasn't contested for any elective position since 2003. I find this baffling. How will he help the ordinary Nigerian. Just like in Rivers Started. Amaechi caused such a fuss even though his name wasn't on the ballot. |
barcanista:The faulty structure of this country will always present with poor quality leaders. Structure is the source of corruption and is the most important malaise afflicting the country. |
