From the telecos, banks and retailers offering houses, cars and millions of naira to back yard buccaneers marketing el-dorado, the Nigerian business climate is one giant game show or shall I say game reserve where the hunter and the prey are locked in a battle of wits.

Even foreigners know a large chunk of our population are just opportunists, dishonest or down right lazy and so will follow even a lunatic who promises them sanity.

The day the bush meat decides to take up a hoe and farm is the day the hunter tenders his resignation. Nigerians should look for productive means of livelihood and stop corruption.

Politics › Re: Is The Northern Part Of Nigeria Marginalized by Reference(m): 2:07pm On Jul 08, 2012
No, they are not being marginalised. You don't get marginalised in a democracy due to equal representation. But we know they speak about the Presidency because they are not democratic by nature rather feudalistic. This has been the undoing of the north since independence.

Anyway, whatever the north feels it lacks in power terms is well deserved. It is no more a homogenous unit and once Boko Haram is tamed, the bombs and guns will be turned on their feudal lords to their own benefit.

The north must be marginalised. You cannot tender food without cooking and you cannot cook without heat.

Nothing wrong with it if: It is not done vindictively and out of pure anger. If it is balanced with a reward system (carrot and stick). If it is not done excessively thus eroding its fear factor. Wisdom is balance and balance is wisdom that uses the cane to drive out foolishness. Finally, the greatest antidote to childhood truancy are knowledgeable parents who are willing to lead by EXAMPLE. Don't expect from your child any different from what you do.

They are one of the best teams in Europe (if not the world sef) just being real guys. I'm surprised alfarooq Aminu should play for us afteralll he was a first round bust in the NBA. I would have been more comfortable with one of our home based players.
Said it yesterday. The boys are good but there are limits. And its wise to know your limits before you can exceed them.

Olodostein: Bro, you don't really know Rochas. Rochas spent tangible time in the North, go and ask them what he did for them. At one time, he was director of Red cross in Nigeria. I am sure that experience shaped him. He is well respected in Kano because of what he did for them. He built standard schools in kano. Most notably along Airport road.

What did your brother Achike Udenwa do for you? In fact, Orlu need education more than any place in Imo. It is a shame the level of ignorance in that place. I am sure you know what i am talking about. Our orlu young brothers ought to be educated so that they can desist from some bad behaviours they engage in both business wise and otherwise. Ohakim is just a stone throw from my hometown. Yet we made sure he was defeated because of his imcompetence and arrogance.

Imsu is being upgraded. Owerri needs to be decongested. Other towns should be developed too.

He is only there a little more than a year and have accomplished what no other Governor has since the time of Sam Mbakwe.

He is damed if he does, damned if he doesn't.

God, what does the world want ?
Yeah. Guess so. I think people should be a tad more patient.

faithin9ja: and this all boils down to how we bring up our children?
They are life models. Pick and choose. The results are there to see. No matter the progress soft skills offer (And this is the only thing making money in the US now), you can never discount the need for focus, concentration and effort. These are the hard skill the east excel in and that's why with all the innovation in the west they are essentially bankrupt. All play and no wok makes Jack a broke boy.

faithin9ja: Languages change!!! I personally cannot stand 'textspeak' but I have to acknowledge that languages evolve over time. After all how many people Shakespearean English, even our indigenous languages change oer time, do we speak Yoruba or Igbo the same way as 70 or 80 years ago?
Abbreviations have always been used from time. Short hand was a legit and taught script but it did not replace written or spoken language in its purest form. There's something else going down.

mimicue: As for the gsm text language I use it a lot because it is easier and flows very well, but when I'm in school I try my best not to make use of it ... But seriously do u expect us not to move with the technology.. Fine too much of everything is not good and it distracts a lot.
But the fact is with our economy this days I think its better to use your talent to get what Ÿ̲̣̣̣̥ø̲̣̣̥u̶̲̥̅̊ want. I support people going for project fame, bba , who wants to be a millionaire.. Things are bad in nigeria some of them are graduates or undergraduates and have to make ends meet some pay their school fees on their on or have other needs with the money it will go a long way, even graduates collects peanut salaries which is very unfair and some won't get job and when Ÿ̲̣̣̣̥ø̲̣̣̥u̶̲̥̅̊ have talent or ur intelligent Ÿ̲̣̣̣̥ø̲̣̣̥u̶̲̥̅̊ go for this programs which brings opportunities.

Ÿ̲̣̣̣̥ø̲̣̣̥u̶̲̥̅̊ take for instance with the amount footballers are being paid.. They paid them good money more than the n graduates and all that.. So people shouldn't do all these .. They are part of the talents God gave us and their using it well and least they are not armed robbers
Talent is the enemy of progress. The best things in life are not free. Does this sound strange. Yes. But that's why everything is going down. Talent champions, IT and entertainment was seen to be the best thing but today the only countries having any money whatsoever are those who make real stuff - Germany and China. Whereas those who know how to talk and make noise are totally bankrupt. You may know how to sing and dance. At the end of the day you need to eat, drink and go to bed. That's where the real world matters.

OlowoTee: Good points, Justirich.
Methinks, the root cause of the deteriorating situation is because the parenting foundation is weak. Young people have been left so much to themselves. No discipline, no training, parents all engaged in one job or the other, trying to make ends meet...thereby not having adequate time for their wards -gone are those days when you get back home from school and there was someone to ask you lotta questions such as what did you study, how was your day, did you finish your classwork, let me see your notebooks...etc. Now, the story is different. sad

the points you've got there are great, but then I wouldn't agree to point 1-4, because, other developing nations got a bit of them too, yet we don't hear of any recurring woeful academic performance. Does it mean they manage these distractions well?
I disagree on your closing points. Education standards in most west, western nations at the youth level is declining in the context of the academia. And I will like to distinguish this from information. The world generally is getting more informed but less educated. The brain capacity has a finite amount it desires to store at any point in time.

Sad that it seems most of them don't even realize that "proper writing" is not for exam scripts alone. It speaks to who you are, just like the way you dress and carry yourself. No offence, but writing in text speak can make you come across as semi-literate or illiterate IMO
With all the challenges already facing Nigerians, we definitely don't need a generation of poor writers who can't determine when it's not appropriate to write text -speak.
Demonstrating good writing skills should be a basic aspiration for educated folks and you should know where text speak belongs if you must use it

Btw, I know I am not a perfect writer myself, but you won't find me using "nyc" for "nice" grin
Very true. Even though these days the only doors I open to the web are through mobile devices, I still take time to write properly and avoid shorthand because I simply consider it lazy and sometimes potrays the writer as one not given to deep thought. So unfortunate. However like my dad used to say. Its just a phase change thing.

nenginengi: Its funny how men (most without any money) come here and make very bold statements. A lot of them would loose more and concede far more easily.

That said, most men because of weallth expect women to leave gainful employement, sit home and play house; take care of kids, then when they get tired they trade for a younger model. They forget the kids they once doted on and leave the women (who are now away from any means of finacial support) alone.

It is good that these women or men (in some cases settlements are made to men) are compensated. I think people wil fight harder to save thier marraiges. because if u didnt have it al good at the home front, there'd be no way you'd have fulfilled potential.

The wona you marry detern=mines whether u sink or float.....
Its a double edged sword. When extremes like these happen it causes good women in goods unions to suffer and makes playboys of wealthy men. How does it benefit women in the long run. Extremes are always bad.

Billyonaire: I used to clamor for State Police, but mere reading people's mind on Nairaland, I conclude, State Police is a bad idea but its a necessary evil. Bad idea because poliitical office holders will use it to kill their extreme opponents, and its a good idea because, politicians using it to kill each other will reduce their number and weed the system of the dogs called politicians. I say we need state police, hoping its time to weed the Facrooks from the system.
Crime is crime anywhere. If the politician kills and you can't get redress you take the case to the next level just like the judiciary.

The FBI has offices in every US territory but operates independently. As a matter of fact with both local and federal police, you have checks and balances.

We are so over ripe we're going rotten. What's he afraid of. We can have a Federal Police force like the FBI, a state police force and the Sheriffs office for cities or local councils. You can have unified laws but you cannot have unified law enforcement in such a multicultural society as Nigeria. It simply doesn't work.
