gossips: Is it the same ikotun that I live in or another? This is a distribution challenge. You guys don't have enough step down capacity to go round every area thus the rationing. Better to lose some hours of power than to lose the transformers. |
Spirit of Okija: I believe that the Nigerian fault line that brought in this new era was in the year 2000.. Thats when we left the Iron age and entered the I.T age..Well, you just wonder what kids born that year will turn out to be in this E-age. |
Let me try and expand on this using one factor - education. In the pre and post independence period Nigeria had very highly educated and informed people but in very few numbers. You can score this 3. In the seventies and eighties education deepened and widened. A lot more people had access and the quality was quite decent. A score of 5. Post eighties there has been a deluge of people seeking education and information has exploded, reaching more people than ever before. Unfortunately the quality is simply atrocious. So in terms of the quantum effect we have gone back to a score of 3. So we have not progressed at all and we see the effects everyday. |
You are definitely right as per the time frame, but how do you mean the end of time?
Most countries have generational fault lines. These lines are caused by major events that impact on society and affects a broad range of issues that make one generation distinct from another in the way they think and act. American society has the popular baby boomers. The explosive growth in the American population after the second world war and the consequent change in society from one of sacrifice and propriety to one of expectation and reward. I believe Nigeria has these lines, call them what you wish but there is the independence and civil war generation, then there's the Babangida generation and post this. These three generations are very distinct. That's what I mean when I say end of time. It was the end of many things and the beginning of others. |
greateros: any one fortunate to use this exercise book is not less than 35 years now!Pally, Nairaland is filled with children or adults in body alone. |
The period when every boy knows how to draw chicago bull and dance galala (popularised by daddy Showkey) The period when we usually challenge ourselves in 'somersault' (gymnastics) such as , 'backflit', 'steady', aeroplane'etal The period of danger mouse, voltron, superted, scoobido and scrabido. The period when a teacher punishes the class by telling them to 'heads down'. We end up sleeping in the process. *#SoMuchToTell#*
Mid to late eighties. Towards the end of time. |
Roland17: Speaks loud of how education in Nigeria has not only nose dived, but also degenerated in the past 15 years, Pictures of illitrate artists without any identity with their music or arts have replaced arithmetic tables as front and back covers of notebooks for pupils and students..Values have changed. Permanently. |
Clemzy16: Yeah! I remember.. Also, the 2a book that has the picture of okocha, and kanu.. Maybe taribo west inclusive. Can't really remember. No Sir. You're not of that generation. |
YEMOYEMI: I used to have PHCN supply average of 6hours/day until it went off for 1week and 2days.It is so so sad. this is LagosLocalised fault. |
adonisgold: There seems to be a marked improvement in power, I have had steady light for days. Hope it's not a fluke?Kainji and Shiroro reservoirs are full. Electricity is always better at this time of the year. December to April is a better period to assess. |
Danka7777: You don't have to be at the airport to provide crucial information when needed. The assistant Manager in your absence ought be able to brief you on the situation ASAP. Nigerians are really funny. Because you are not at the office the entire public should have to wait until you get back to the office?Thought I was the only one that noticed. Nobody is ever at work and never aware of anything. He speaks as if he has no staff under him, has not been briefed or doesn't give a hoot. The level of incompetence and insincerity in Nigeria at all levels is just glaring. So the natural default is to feign ignorance. But I'm sure while in his office he will be fully aware of what is happening in his private businesses. |
lexonah: 1.if u luk closely at da punny wit a red lamp...cos dats wot i put on in ma rum wen i wana get down..and u observe dat da lips below gives u secondary kolors, run for dear lyf if not enjoy da ride. Are you a gynaecologist. |
I hope this is not the first step in our isolation. Sports is always the first cue. It means Nigeria maybe ineligible to bid for hosting serious sporting activities. |
Real catch 22 situation. You really can't place a price on education. However education should teach us to do the right thing and sets the standards for proper development. Pity. |
Nice way of aging various posters and contributors so we know those not worth responding to purely on account of immaturity. |
bin gbagbo: Full fixtures:Yeah, I suspect so. Have a feeling the Teranga Lions will maul those aging Elephants. Cote D'Ivoire has clearly peaked and Senegal will want to rebound from the last debacle. |
Kris shiwan: Eagles are supper. Support or ship out.I sincerely hope you mean super. |
mukina2: nor try us o, we fit beat spain sefOk. |
denitro: 12.Footy can never change. There must always be a tough grouping when those lots are drawn. |
denitro: 4.If we can't scale this one we should just forget about footy and rally round the EPL. |
erniok: This is a classic case of opportunity trying to meet preparation that is if Barr Bob is prepared for this quest. He's trying to carve a niche for himself in the Nigerian legal cycle.Well you might not see another committee. Seems you don't realise what's happening. |
Well if he feels that the saga is a high level attempt at scuttling the fuel subsidy probe, I completely agree. There's no reason why Otedola should not be connected to this. When you consider the strikes earlier this year and the calls against the cabals, great injustice is happening while the main issue is lost. This is one big smoke screen. So let the authorities with all their might go after the 3 million dollar bribe while the hungry lawyer goes after the 12 billion dollar loot. |
mankand: Ya'll waiting your time. Contact me, i can unlock your Free to air strong Decoder to receive and watch DSTV or any fucking TV station for free. And who's the thief here. |
lagbaja: my emphasis is putting in place an anti-trust law as it is done in other climes, HiTV and StarTv may have done somethings wrong or may not totally be Nigerian, that still does not justify a monopolistic tendency. I stand on the side of consumers, we need competition to get best value for our money.I thought anti-trust laws are set up to prevent connivance amongst hitherto competitors to set artificially high prices to the disadvantage of the consumer. In effect reducing competition. Is GoTV not doing the opposite, increasing competition within the DVB market to the advantage of the public. The charge that they want to kill off competition is unfounded and will never stand in any trial. |
Why is everyone saying this is a spiritual problem. It may have a spiritual solution but this is a very real, physical, physiological problem. When most people go spiritual they stop reasoning and this is dangerous in a situation like this. |
Congrats to the new CJN. One solid professional. And a very nice woman. Best of luck. |
CY09: @ ryhmz, liberal minded people know that what all you have said is true. I see no need trying to convince one whose mind has been made up. The problem with the generality of Nigerians is that we let religion becloud our sense of reasoning. Nigeria is one of the most religious Nation in the world yet we suffer as if God never exists in our Country.I have very little regards for religion but I have very high regards for rules. And am not hypocritical about things. Nigerians have very scant regards for rules from the top to the bottom in every phase of life. If those students has the rules in black and white and signed up for them at matric. Then they have no case. There is no organisation that does not have rules and standards and most are not open to debate. Continue to wear danshiki to work at the bank and eventually you will be treated like a child. There are organisations that sack for smoking, eating out of place and not wearing seat belts when driving through the gates. The unions are aware of this and sign up to it. As you criticize there are many parents who are all too glad to have their wards obey someone or something for once in their life. It is afterall a choice. |
rhymz: @bigboyAt the end of the day it is privately owned. What makes this difficult to accept. If they charge 1 billion naira and ask students to wear uniforms whose rights do they breach. Which laws do they break exactly. I don't like that product, I don't feel its worth the cost so it should not exist. C'mon, there's something else. Speak. |
sheyguy: why is it that most arse*** fans are always bitter with player leaving the club? They hated on the likes of Henry, Nasri, Ashley Cole and Fabregas. To me, i think it is a sign of immaturity on the side of those hating. This happens in every club amongst the more passionate fans. I can remember when Rooney played hardball to get a better offer. He was torn to shreads even death threats if he went to City but when he eventually signed he became angelic. That's the downside of fanhood. |
dabrake: who wan associate with a never-winning finalist like bayern munchen? Here we go again. Dayo will certainly reply. |
The club has a philosophy. The man has a philosophy. I respect both. Good luck to him. He gave everything last season to save the club at the expense of the Euros. |
jmslimx: Test by Moon light... Omo make moon shine make person see light.... 2Billion is enough to create a power station that would serve the whole of western state.. Make them dey lie ..You know this is not true. |

It would have been a very different case if they had registered as a theology University or some ascetic academy so everyone knows that is what is expected when you go there. Not decieve people into believing you that you run a University only for you to start slipping in strict religious doctrines on everyone without respecting anyone's private beliefs or right to believe in what they want. There are church run Universities abroad they don't make their church doctrines binding on anyone neither are their VCs or Deans neccessarily pastors, evangelists and the likes, convenant is no theology school so why run it like one and make adult students miserable. Do you know how that hinders effectiveness in thought progress and social skills? Come on!
