I think Cross-River state trumps here. Relatively of course. No private power but there is a power plant being built outside Calabar. |
damilola15: This would means millions of people (politicians, civil servants, police, military and so on) would have to resign. In other words its a game of numbers. And perhaps those who do wrong are in the majority and have infiltrated the system so badly a common stomach bug has turned to sepsis. Another angle. |
2buff: Sorry sir didn't get you. What I'm trying to point out in response to an earlier post citing the mass upheaval against the fuel price increase is that past leaders with no immunity now are out there in the open even attending functions (seminars, lectures, fundraisers, investmets, etc) organised by or attended by high ranking officials of law enforcement and the judiciary. |
2buff: It starts with the removal of the immunity clause in the Nigerian constitution of those in power. But the immunity clause is off scores of our leaders at all levels from 1960 till date. Yet. Infact you see them attend very public functions organised by all levels of society including law enforcement and the judiciary. Whereas Sarkozy just out a month ago had his house searched by police yesterday if I'm not mistaken. |
wellmax: I will answer you like this.Another angle to this. This relates to the structure of our country viz our government and its finances. Primarily the budget - allocation syndrome. But is access the reason for corruption. Or is there something else. |
lacasa: Oteh, Diezani, otedollar n ϑ oda rogues past n present dey laff in canadian french wyl dancing azontoIf these guys were handling similar positions in say Canada the story will certainly have turned out different from what it is at the moment. What makes this country so. |
blink182: Honestly, not in our life time. We should be realistic.Perhaps. But we all decide that as well. |
The level can only change when you and I change!..
The short answer. Its an atmospheric thing. As the climate decides what you wear. So conditions permit or restrict certain acts. So the clue is creating the environment. |
Ms. Otteh and SEC take notes. Let the debate begin. |
OmanIman: 1st it was Shoprite, then Spar and anothr Shoprite in abj!Nw Walmart?Haba dis shld stop!Govt shld encourage local enterpreneurs.Makes me feel all we'll ever do in dis country is jus to "Consume" till thy kingdom come!V sad!Enof of dis "Super Stores"!They are just retailing and not manufacturing anything so how are they a threat. I rather think the competition is welcome as they will up the ante in terms of product and service delivery as they purchase locally made goods and products. |
Nigerians can talk. Beneath is just smoke and ashes. Full of fear. |
Same with fuels. Why produce when you can buy. Who wants to take care of a damn cow. |
Good move. More makers. Less traders. Without the previous bans we will not have come anything near 19 million tons. |
However for holding out such information that long and granting OBJ an audience in the process I will not rule out a blackmail attempt for not only Zenon but some other importers in high places that could buy Otedola additional patronage. I believe the bribe is just the fin of a great white lurking beneath. |
Biggyd2: @Saviola, hope this helps.Corruption sure dulls the mind and destroys logical thinking. He couldn't even competently manage the collection. |
freecocoa: ^How do you know 100% that you are not wrong? Its not about who's right or wrong but who's interested in the relationship. You have to keep your emotions out of the business at hand. If he thrives on sorry give it to him. Act it if necessary but ensure communication remains alive. We are all different. Some attach great importance to things we consider petty. I for one will not expect any apology after a row because that is exactly what it is. I don't consider greetings or the absence of it important enough to judge people by and so on. But for others. Just give it to them and move on. |
But they apologised over the weekend saying they lost some major fibre optics but were on top of the situation or something. Could it be they suffered serious flood damage. Anyway I've long ceased to be in their income ledger. |
johnson64: the leaders of this country are not doing the right thingAnd you think all those plastic containers belong to people who use kerosine. No. They belong to yet another level of cartels. If you're not in the mafia your can gets kicked down the road. Its dog eats dog from top to bottom. At the top its called corruption. At the bottom its called survival. |
Biggyd2: Has this man said anything different from what most Nigerians are saying? I am of the belief that if our religious leaders are able to tell their congregation( especially those in government)when they err, Nigeria will be a better place to live. When they come to these religious places 'to try and free their corrupt consciences' the preachers should still tell them how the people feel about them.It is not about what Nigerians are saying but what Nigerians are doing. His responsibility is to improve the spiritual well being of his congregation. If the President attends his church, fine. He can address him personally but I'm sure he has other government officials, business moguls, captains of industries and other leaders attending which whom he can influence positively to create change locally. The truth is that you have two equations in this matter. The first is that democracy is a game of numbers. The second is that righteousness exalts a nation. Thus to exalt Nigeria you don't just pick on one but spread your message to as many as possible. It is a game of numbers. I repeat again. Jonathan out changes nothing. He's been battling tyrants for decades. Did they come from Mars or the society which has moulded them. How are we sure the next leader to be confronted isn't sitting in his congregation. Nigeria has consistently baked the cake of poor leadership because the ingridients of followership are essentially substandard. That is the task of the church. To develop capacity. Not all these short-sighted populist moves that lead no where. |
ifihearam: Na turn by turnHmm, I remember that track. Sound track I mean. |
item1: Y DE CAR NO GET LICENCE PLATE NUMBER NAA. ABI WEN U BUY EXPENSIVE MOTO ROAD SAFETY GO DE FEAR TO GIVE AM NUMBER/PARTICULARS.Den you dey play with the whole budget for area command that year oh. |
Maybe they saw the Bugatti Veyron on the other thread. |
Alxmyr: Exactly. He was smarter in this case. He is the whistle-blower.If his name was on that list he has a case to answer. Forget all these smoke bombs going off here and there. Not everyone is a bingo that can be distracted by tainted meat over the fence. He should appear to explain the motive behind his 'sting operation' which is clearly aimed at stalling the subsidy probe that a lot of people were making noise about just a few months ago. What kind of country is this for heavens sake. Does one crime automatically erase another. |
I always say it. Everyone has his constituency. Shout anti-corruption as they may. When you reach the areas of their interest you begin to hear wierd tales. In January his house was being pelted with stones. The same Forumites all screamed for the heads of the cabal. Today it is the panel in the dock and the other side has no case to answer. That's why I say corruption is not our problem in Nigeria. It is simply not important to us. |
bigboy3: You are obviously high on something very cheap...check the causes of flooding in Lagos, most of it avoidable. No drainages, blocked canals, bad roads etc. Someone noted that gbagada used to be flooded and it hasn't happened this year. How was that solved, the canal by atunrase estate was cleared, the one behind soluyi leading to odo iyalaro was also cleared etc. Fashola's govt is trying but he has to chk the lg chairmen. They are bunch of crooks and thieves. Are they not all loyal party men. Why can't the party call them to order even if the electorate remains docile and the governor's arms are tied (perhaps by himself). If it is cross party lines this thread will have reached twenty pages by now but within the party all is well. |
This na real comedy central. Anyway I think El-Rufai should just let go and come to terms like his former boss OBJ that his time in government is over and allow others to make their mistakes and learn from them just as he did. |
betrani: "Those who spend time to watch a mad man eat from a refuse bin, are equally mad people" In describing a country's economy, u first consider its population relative to d per-capita income, Its resource base, Industrialization, government policies relative to socio-economic activities etc! Unfortunately for most countries; when economists make so much noise with some experimental theories, the fail to think about human behaviours, not in wants, needs, preferences but interms of corruption, ethnicity and morality! All these I just mentioned are really our problem in nigeria, if Ghana has better human beings with better moralit, with a less ethnic influence on politics and economic policies; then there is no basis for comparison! A smaller country with sensible people can grow to become a world power! Japan is a very Good example! If a bigger country with a larger population has sensible people; it becomes a force to reckon with(china) and if a larger country with a larger population of greedy people, selfish people and ethnically shackled by "self-interest" driven by corruption! Mismanages its abundant wealth, it can be brought to its knees; (Nigeria); summary of the whole bla; is that there is no basis, whatsoever for comparison!Perhaps the only gem amongst the sea of rocks. There is no basis of comparison whatsoever. |
Good move. The time to start is now. |
Good one. It only raises the ante. And with the Americans running well, I see the WR tumbling come London. Good days ahead. But spare a thought for poor old Nigeria. No one coming near 10 secs anymore. |
Poster. When you fight corruption, corruption fights back. You dare not take on the banking industry in Nigeria. You can't win. Even the Federal government that has lost trillions laundered through these banks can't find anything. |
Neuer thought about going for that shot but considered that there's life after football afterall. |
