Kindly read and digest my original post properly. It was clear to all sane persons that Buhari was a failed person who should never have come back to be president. She would have been better off advocating someone else other than Jonathan and Buhari if she really wanted a change. If Jonathan was so bad, the alternative could not and never should have been Buhari. She and her likes should have known better so now, seeing the folly of their ways, they come with their sanctimonious bs and won't let PDP/Jonathan be. Rather than condemn APC roundly for their clear ineptitude and failure, they find a way to rope in PDP just to justify their poor choice.
Hardly anyone has been more consistent and vocal in their criticism of the present government than Madam Ezekwesili. That doesn't mean her position on the previous government has changed.

Dead people, economic hardship, fuel scarcity, maina gate,BH resurgence, secret appointments, corruption everywhere, inter agency rivalry, SARS killings, kidnappings and you still feel u can live peacefully thru a year more of his rule!
Truth be told, we lived through the same challenges and even worse, for 16 years of PDP rule in this country so let's not pretend it all started with this government.

Why would a prayer I am saying in tongues to God need interpretation?

A word of knowledge or prophecy delivered in tongues would need interpretation so that the congregation can understand the message.

But praying in tongues is distinct from that and needs no interpretation. It is a personal and direct prayer to God under the unction of the Holy Spirit.

SARS is a highly disorganised and corrupt unit of the Nigerian Police.

But the truth is that 60% - 70% of all of the stories on the #EndSARSBrutality# trend are figments of the authors' hyperactive imagination.

With the plethora of negative stories about SARS, one could easily conclude that they are a bunch of no-good, trigger-happy and demonic men who just go around totting assault weapons and shooting at any and every body they come across.

I have encountered SARS on several occasions driving around in Lagos and I know that that claim is far from the truth. Like every Nigerian setup, they do a lot of good work and have a few bad eggs...well maybe more than "a few". But they aren't beyond redemption.

I say reform SARS! While at it, reform the entire Nigerian Police force because there is a lot that is wrong with their orientation.
PoliticsRe: Uproar As Senate Debates 2018 Budget Proposal by Reptyle(m): 12:45pm On Nov 29, 2017
nwakibie3:
• Members denounce N11tr collectible revenue
• Seek oil price benchmark increase from $45 to $50 per barrel
• Mull scrapping of VOA, NOA, other ‘wasteful agencies’

Debate on the general principles of the 2018 budget proposal began on a heated note at the Senate yesterday, with some members describing the fiscal document as “unrealistic, ” “fictional” and “imaginary.”Many senators who contributed to the debate across party lines declared that the N11 trillion collectible revenue proposed could not be met and called for increase in oil price benchmark from $45 to $50 per barrel.

Senator Enyinnaya Abaribe (PDP, Abia State) was unsparing in his assessment of the proposal, declaring it “dead on arrival”. Joshua Lidani (PDP, Gombe State) called it “wishful thinking”. For Ben Murray Bruce (PDP, Bayelsa), it was merely “a budget of active imagination”.

Senate leader, Ahmed Lawan, however found one of Abaribe’s expressions uncomfortable and sought leave of the chamber to mandate the senator to withdraw the word.“You cannot describe as ‘fictitious’ the budget presented by Mr. President to a joint session of the National Assembly,” said Lawan.

But instead of renouncing the term, Abaribe said if ‘fictitious’ was unacceptable, “I withdraw the word and say that it is totally imaginary.”
Senator Abubakar Yusuf (APC, Taraba North) regretted that instead of the presidency to make agencies responsible for non-oil revenue generation brace up, it was projecting unrealisable revenue collections, as witnessed this year where only N155b was realised out of projected N807b independent revenue generation.

Deputy whip, Francis Alimekhena (APC, Edo North), also faulted the proposal. “Year in, year out, we are faced with bloated budget estimates that cannot achieve performance implementation beyond the 15 per cent it achieved this year,” he said.

He noted that since the price of crude oil in the international market is now above $60, the oil price benchmark should be jerked up from the proposed $45 to $50, as a way of maximising the projected N6.387 trillion oil revenue, since the projected N5.597 trillion non-oil revenue is not realisable.

The lawmakers spoke as the upper chamber kick-started consideration of the general principles and second reading of the 2018 budget as contained in a bill for an act to authorise issue of N8,612,236,953,214 from the Consolidated Revenue Fund.

Of the amount, N456,458,654,074 is for statutory transfers; N2,233,835,365,699 is for debt service; N3,494,277,820,219 is for recurrent (non-debt) expenditure; while the sum of N2,427,665,113,222 is for contribution to the development fund for capital expenditure for the year ending December 31, 2018.

Lawan, who gave an overview of the budget, said that in keeping with the administration’s policy, 30.8 per cent (N2,652 trillion) of the aggregate expenditure was allocated to capital budget. The Yobe North lawmaker said that the fiscal operations would result in a deficit of N2,005 trillion or 1.77 per cent GDP. He reminded his colleagues that the deficit would be partly financed by new borrowing estimated at N1.699 trillion.

While 50 per cent of the borrowing will be sourced externally, the balance will be sourced domestically. The balance of the deficit of N306 billion is to be financed from the proceeds of privatisation of some non-oil assets by the Bureau of Public Enterprises (BPE).

Lawan also reminded his colleagues that the budget was predicated on the following assumptions: oil price benchmark $45 per barrel; oil production estimate of 2.3 million barrel per day; exchange rate of N305/US$; real GDP growth of 3.4 per cent and inflation rate of 12.4 per cent.

Hardly had Lawan concluded his overview when Abaribe took the floor.“The 2018 budget is designed to consolidate on the achievement of 2016, 2017 budgets. What was done in 2017, when less than 15 per cent of that budget was released? Nothing. That is why I call it fictitious. Nothing was done in 2017. That is fact that we all know.

“As at last week, the total receivable government got was one tenth of what was stated publicly. Instead of the budget in 2017 of more than N800 billion to be received, what was received was N150 billion. In what sense will this 2018 budget be predicated on an assumption that the facts have already been destroyed? You are assuming N11 trillion, yet you are getting less than N1 trilion.

“This is imaginary. We beg this government to be very specific in the indications of the assumptions underlining this budget. The assumptions are totally wrong and totally off the mark,” said Abaribe.

Lidani said the performance of the 2017 budget especially as it related to capital performance was abysmal. “It is expected that by the end of the year, only 50 per cent of the capital fund would have been released. It is not certain that amount would be released. So, we end up having a budget that has performed below expectation. Unless we get the 2017 budget analysed, we will be building the 2018 budget on a very weak foundation.”

He added: “Non-oil revenue fell by 74 per cent, which means only 36 per cent was realised from it. This is very disturbing and alarming, especially when you consider the fact that the 2018 budget is predicated heavily on non-oil revenue.

“The non-oil revenue is supposed to contribute N4.165 trillion, which is almost about 50 per cent of the N8.6 trillion budget. If something goes wrong and we don’t realise this N4.165 trillion, it means the budget will be as good as dead. If we don’t get the fundamentals right, we are going to have a budget that will perform below expectation.”

Bruce said: “If you look at the budget from 1960 to the present, you have agencies that were designed for 1960, agencies that were designed for the Nigerian civil war, agencies that were designed to suit some certain conditions in life. 60 years later, those agencies still exist in the budget. If you look at the budget, you will see that some agencies get recurrent expenditure, they pay salaries, they get houses, computers, cars, but they have no money to do any work. Some agencies are so bloated. It defies logic but these agencies exist. So, we have 2.4 million people consuming 60 per cent of the recurrent expenditure of Nigeria. It doesn’t make any sense.”

He added: “I called President Obasanjo on phone two days ago and he said to me that the National Orientation Agency was necessary when we had no political parties. What is the value of the National Orientation Agency in today’s world for instance? Yet billions of naira is spent in it. Let us look at agencies that make no sense and sell them to staff. FRCN has 8,000 workers. Sell it to them. Sell NTA to the staff. Voice of Nigeria… Who listens to Voice of Nigeria? Sell it. If the staff want to buy, let them buy it. Set up a cooperative, like Awolowo did, sell it to them. If we spend 71 per cent on recurrent expenditure, we will never get out of this predicament.”

Senator Gbenga Ashafa noted that the 2018 budget could not be discussed effectively without reviewing the performance of previous ones. He said the major problem of the country’s budgets was poor funding. He said for instance only N700 million out of N11.4 billion had been released from the budget of the Ministry of Transportation.

Deputy senate president, Ike Ekweremadu, who chaired the session, noted: “Without revenue, we will have no money to do expenditure. We must point out, in the course of the debate, how we will reduce deficit. Ben Bruce has told us that some government agencies that should not be in existence anymore including the Voice of Nigeria (VON), which nobody is listening to. We need to point out some of these MDAs that are of no consequence and are adding no value, so that we don’t keep spending money on them. That way, we will be able to reduce the ratio between capital and the recurrent and, of course, reduce deficit.

“I hope government will listen to such exposure and be able to do away with such agencies. If the government fails to remove those agencies from our budget, we have a responsibility to Nigerians to bring bills in order to repeal the laws that set them up and stop waste of our resources.”

https://guardian.ng/news/uproar-as-senate-debates-2018-budget-proposal/
They stand on the floor of the Senate and propose things like winding down irrelevant government agencies like NOA and VON".

But the moment government announces a plan to wind down such agencies and parastatals, these same Senators will start whining about how insensitive the government is.

Successive budgets have been undone by the sheer chunk that goes towards servicing recurring expenditure while only a tiny fragment goes towards CAPEX.

All we hear is plenty of talk with very little action to turn things around both from the Executive and the Legislature. Such a shame.

ATIKU DECAMPS FROM APC

Read statement of resignation below:

Statement of resignation of His Excellency Atiku Abubakar (Waziri Adamawa) Vice President of Nigeria, 1999-2007 from the All Progressives Congress

On the 19th of December, 2013, I received members of the All Progressives Congress at my house in Abuja. They had come to appeal to me to join their party after my party, the Peoples Democratic Party, had become factionalized as a result of the special convention of August 31, 2013.

The fractionalization of the Peoples Democratic Party on August 31, 2013 had left me in a situation where I was, with several other loyal party members, in limbo, not knowing which of the parallel executives of the party was the legitimate leadership.

It was under this cloud that members of the APC made the appeal to me to join their party, with the promise that the injustices and failure to abide by its own constitution which had dogged the then PDP, would not be replicated in the APC and with the assurance that the vision other founding fathers and I had for the PDP could be actualized through the All Progressives Congress.

It was on the basis of this invitation and the assurances made to me that I, being party-less at that time, due to the fractionalization of my party, accepted on February 2, 2014, the hand of fellowship given to me by the All Progressives Congress.

On that day, I said "it is the struggle for democracy and constitutionalism and service to my country and my people that are driving my choice and my decision" to accept the invitation to join the All Progressives Congress.

Like you, I said that because I believed that we had finally seen the beginnings of the rebirth of the new Nigeria of our dreams which would work for all of us, old and young.

However, events of the intervening years have shown that like any other human and like many other Nigerians, I was fallible.

While other parties have purged themselves of the arbitrariness and unconstitutionality that led to fractionalization, the All Progressives Congress has adopted those same practices and even gone beyond them to institute a regime of a draconian clampdown on all forms of democracy within the party and the government it produced.

Only last year, a governor produced by the party wrote a secret memorandum to the president which ended up being leaked. In that memo, he admitted that the All Progressives Congress had "not only failed to manage expectations of a populace that expected overnight ‘change’ but has failed to deliver even mundane matters of governance".

Of the party itself, that same governor said "Mr. President, Sir Your relationship with the national leadership of the party, both the formal (NWC) and informal (Asiwaju Bola Tinubu, Atiku Abubakar, Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso), and former Governors of ANPP, PDP (that joined us) and ACN, is perceived by most observers to be at best frosty. Many of them are aggrieved due to what they consider total absence of consultations with them on your part and those you have assigned such duties."

Since that memorandum was written up until today, nothing has been done to reverse the treatment meted out to those of us invited to join the All Progressives Congress on the strength of a promise that has proven to be false. If anything, those behaviours have actually worsened.

But more importantly, the party we put in place has failed and continues to fail our people, especially our young people. How can we have a federal cabinet without even one single youth.

A party that does not take the youth into account is a dying party. The future belongs to young people.

I admit that I and others who accepted the invitation to join the APC were eager to make positive changes for our country that we fell for a mirage. Can you blame us for wanting to put a speedy end to the sufferings of the masses of our people?

Be that as it may be, after due consultation with my God, my family, my supporters and the Nigerian people whom I meet in all walks of life, I, Atiku Abubakar, Waziri Adamawa, hereby tender my resignation from the All Progressives Congress while I take time to ponder my future.

May God bless you and may God bless Nigeria.

Reno Omokri, ex-aide of former President Goodluck Jonathan, has criticised the government of President Muhammadu Buhari for publicising the overseas medical treatment approved for Alex Ekwueme, former vice-president.

The presidency had announced that Buhari directed that the ailing former vice-president be flown abroad for medical treatment, but Omokri took an exception to the publicity, accusing the president of attempting to score “cheap political point”.

Omokri said the overseas treatment was Ekwueme’s right and went on to say former President Goodluck Jonathan during his time in office purchased bullet-proof cars for Buhari without announcing it.

Reno in a Facebook post wrote “treatment abroad is a right of an ex-vice president. President Muhammadu Buhari didn’t do Ekwueme a favour. President Goodluck Jonathan purchased bulletproof vehicles for Buhari without announcing it. It is only a petty and shallow administration eager to score cheap political points with a sick man’s health that announces that the President has given the man his due!".

Yeah it wasn't announced. Yet it somehow found its way all over the newspapers and TV stations.

There was absolutely nothing wrong with Shehu Garba's press release about the "approval" for ex VP Ekwueme's treatment abroad. I find the mass hysteria over the issue unnecessary.

If the announcement hadn't been made, this same Reno omokri and his ilk will find a way of spinning a social media maelstrom about how PMB refused to approve adequate treatment for the ex-VP because of his hatred for Igbos.

Like the Speaker rightly informed them, they can only howl. Makes no difference what their personal or collective beef with the President is. They do not have any constitutional right to prevent the President from addressing them on a matter of national importance as the proposed 2018 budget.

He isn't coming to visit them in their personal houses but at the chambers of the National Assembly on an official matter and in his capacity as President and Commander in Chief.

The blame has always being on the Presidency for delaying the budget with final approvals usually coming mid way into the new year. This is an attempt to present the budget so that Nigeria can finally have a financial year that starts in January and ends in December like it should be. How and why this has become a negative development to attract this kind of push back from the National Assembly and derision on social media beats me.

President Buhari's leadership has left a lot to be desired. But where an effort is made at getting something right, it deserves commendation and not condemnation.

The outrage should rather be at these brood of lazy, no good Senators and Reps collecting millions of naira monthly and refusing to let the President present the budget to them simply because they do not want anything that will interfere with the usual long vacation they plan to take during the Yuletide.

We have gone back to tithing out of gratitude & not necessity.

Jacob said if he is achieves his goals he will tithe, so it's out of gratitude & not to obtain something from God.

Genesis 28(KJV)
20 And Jacob vowed a vow, saying, If God will be with me, and will keep me in this way that I go, and will give me bread to eat, and raiment to put on,

21 So that I come again to my father's house in peace; then shall the Lord be my God:

22 And this stone, which I have set for a pillar, shall be God's house: and of all that thou shalt give me I will surely give the tenth unto thee.

So u can see it's npw gratitude and no more a source

Spot on, its the belief that its the way to blessings that is wrong.
Thereby making the tithes not Jesus the Source of our blessings, now this is very wrong

Again I agree with you, so making it the focal point is satanic.
taking the focus off Jesus.

I wont say it were that important, if it were it would not just show up in a yabbing of the Pharisees.

Jesus would have exhorted the virtues of tithing too, if it were that important
My post wasn't really countering yours.

The impression I just needed to correct was one that seemed to be saying that because Jesus did not receive tithes, it means he outlawed it for believers under the new covenant.

I also feel this general perception that ALL pastors preach about tithes to the neglect of other vital aspects of the gospel is an over generalisation. Charlatans exist and have always existed; even in the days of Christ. He particularly warned against false preachers who would emerge in the last days. he warned that they would preach a perverse version of the gospel that would be so real that even the elect could be deceived into believing these false doctrines.

Seems to me that because of the activities of these charlatans, there is an overt attempt by the enemy to rubbish the church and list tithing as one of the false doctrines that Christ preached against.

Preaching about tithing does not a fake pastor make.

Chiedu4Trump:

DaddyFreeze, here are biblical reasons why tithing for blessings are wrong.

If you expect God to help you becos of your tithes, you are offending Jesus, and are why..

Joshua conquered all because of God's blessings NOT tithes.

Deuteronomy 11:25
There shall no man be able to stand before you: for the Lord your God shall lay the fear of you and the dread of you upon all the land that ye shall tread upon, as he hath said unto you.

Now Our Blessings are in Jesus not Tithes.
Noitce it says ALL not some

Ephesians 1:3
Blessed be the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, who hath blessed us with all spiritual blessings in heavenly places in Christ:

So choose which is better, money or Jesus

The Law does not make anybody perfect!
Heb 7:19
For the law made nothing perfect!

What makes us perfect before God is the sacrifice Jesus made for us.

Colossians 1:28
Whom we preach, warning every man, and teaching every man in all wisdom;
that we may present every man perfect in Christ Jesus:

If tithing could get you favor with God or save us, Jesus would not have died.

QUESTION
What do you think carries more weight in heaven?

The Blood Jesus shed for you and I

Matthew 26:28
For this is my blood of the new testament,
which is shed for many for the remission of sins.

OR

The tithes you pay?

Remember that the Silver & Gold already belongs to God.

Haggai 2:8
The silver is mine, and the gold is mine, saith the Lord of hosts.

In fact believing that things will work because your tithe means;
you are saying to God that the sacrifice Jesus paid is not good enough and you need to add more to it.

And the bible is clear that all our blessings are in Jesus Christ and not our tithes.
Notice it says ALL!
So everything we want Jesus has paid for it, so tithes cannot get it.

Ephesians 1:3
Blessed be the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ,
who hath blessed us with all spiritual blessings in heavenly places in Christ:

So the law of tithing does not bring favor.

Now a quick question, did Jesus collect tithes?
The only time it's menitoned in the New Testament is to yab the Pharisees.

Apart for that once, tithes was never mentioned again in the New Testament.

So why do pastors make you put your faith in ur tithes & not Jesus?

Answer is simply, GREED

There is no mention of Jesus collecting tithes. But there is also no where he outrightly condemned it either.

The only time Jesus directly mentioned the tithe, he was tongue-lashing the pharisees in Matthew 23 vs 23:

“Woe to you, teachers of the law and Pharisees, you hypocrites! You give a tenth of your spices—mint, dill and cumin. But you have neglected the more important matters of the law—justice, mercy and faithfulness. You should have practiced the latter, without neglecting the former."

Notice that he was chiding them because, much like these days, some of them paid tithe only because they believed it was a way to "buy" God's blessings while neglecting the true essence of righteousness in God. Notice here that he urged them to practice the "latter" (Justice, mercy and faithfulness" as well as the "former" (tithing).

No one will go to hell because they did not tithe but it is an important and vital aspect of being a Christian. But it is a decision that should be made without compulsion as SOME pastors tend to do. There are a lot of churches out there (a large majority actually) however, that preach about the virtue of tithing but also take the pain to let the flock know that it should be done right or not at all.

A rejoinder to this post on front page

https://www.nairaland.com/4145670/81-buharis-100-appointees-northerners

Many of us saw the headline created by the newspaper and just Jumped into comments without looking at the fact before us.

The same newspaper published the 100 names and thier region. Did anyone bother to count it before commenting?

Looking through the list published, the number of Northerners was about 64, number of Southerners about 32 and with about 4 unconfirmed regions.

We should say things as it is. It is already lopsided. Why inflate it even more?

Note: In my counting Kwara, Benue and Kogi are counted as North. If we discount those 3 states from the and call them neutral region it will be about 57 Northerners, 32 southerners, 7 neutrals and 4 unconfirmed.
Not to mention that there are some deliberate mix-ups if you look carefully enough.

For instance, number 27 and number 71 are the same name repeated twice.
