onexile:Which embassy? Where? Oh you mean this club house?
|
As usual, Governor Fayose gets away with not giving any cogent response to any of the questions asked. Just blaming his predecessors and bad mouthing the president. What a clown! |
Vorpal:You seriously want me to believe that any festival can take place in the realm of these kings without them playing their role? Are you trying to tell me that these Obas did not enter the traditional conclave (Ipebi) before their coronation? Did the Ooni's christianity stop him from personally dedicating the Ojubo of Moremi Ajasoro in Ile-Ife? My, brother, these are men that have found a way to strike a balance between tradition and their secondary religions. |
Vorpal:If one wanted to push your line of argument, I can prove to you that both those Obas are the spiritual heads of all forms of traditional worship in their realms. |
Jayceo:Reno Omokri is either missing the point or simply being mischievous. My bet is on the latter. The Sultan of Sokoto is a traditional ruler who by virtue of his position is considered the spiritual head of Muslims in Nigeria. He isn't an imam of a mosque or the sheikh of a sect like Zakzaky was (is?). Pastor Adeboye on the other hand leads a congregation of faithfuls and all that the law seeks to do is to make him accountable to those who hold up the church financially. Let me state clearly that the religious bodies might not like the law, but are under obligation to comply. Quite ironical of Omokri to mention the visit of the Israeli prime minister to crises spots...given that President Jonathan, his principal did not visit any of the territories occupied by Boko Haram until 2015, the last year of his 6 - year administration. We have not forgotten. |
In all sincerity, it was wrong for the contract to be awarded to a company in which the SGF had a stake...even if the value of the contract is worth the amount it was awarded for. It is unethical and constitutes a conflict of interest for an official to award a contract to a company he owns or has shares in. Period!!! |
DIKEnaWAR:Yeah I did read not just your first paragraph, but your entire post and it appeared to me like you endorse his style of leadership. You even went ahead to compare his style to the President's style, showing your approval for his and your disapproval for his. Don't get me wrong sir...you are absolutely entitled to your opinion. I just find it strange and quite vexatious that people still have not been able to see through Governor Fayose's demagoguery. Are you aware for instance that Governor Fayose owes Ekiti workers over 6 months salary. Yet out of the 8 billion naira that accrued to the state from the Paris Club refund, he only paid one month salary and a "13th month" salary to the workers? Yet I'm supposed to be impressed that he is taking photos while standing on a fire truck at the scene of a fire? Please!!! |
ScotsReferendum:This law was put in place by the previous administration and like any other law, the current government is under obligation to enforce it. Read my friend! Please read before displaying your ignorance for the world to see! Pastor Bosun ko, Pastor Bomoon ni ![]() |
DIKEnaWAR:Are you for real? The person of a governor goes to the scene of a fire incident, seeking photo-ops and distracting trained professionals from doing their job and that according to you is "responsive, responsible and proactive?" SMH ![]() |
dumebiifeanyi:Fayose!!! Showman per excellence!!! ![]() |
OLADD:Whatever helps you sleep better at night. |
OLADD:Do you have a link to the news story where the federal government said it has commenced payment to all 9 states? What I recall reading is that 9 states, including Ekiti State form part of the pilot for the payment, out of which 3 states have received payment. Perhaps you and governor fayose misread or did not comprehend the news report. Nine states are mapped out for coverage in this first batch and already, many of the beneficiaries were reported to have started receiving their first payments by Friday last week. The states were Borno, Kwara, Bauchi, Cross Rivers, Niger, Kogi, Oyo, Ogun and Ekiti. Of the states, Borno, Kwara and Bauchi have started receiving the money while the rest of the states in the first batch would commence the CCT payments soon. HAH:If the locally produced canned tomatoes are not relevant locally, there is nothing saying that we cannot export and earn foreign exchange for the country. It might interest you to know that Nigeria is the 15th largest producer of tomatoes in the world. While other countries are processing and exporting their excess, over 60% of annual yield is wasted away due to a lack of processing capacity. |
godoluwa:The so called "standard paste" or Gino did not get it right in one day. Standards can be improved as we go along. Curb your appetite for imported goods especially the ones we have the capacity to produce locally. A thriving local production sector will ensure more jobs for Nigerians and help save on foreign exchange. Kudos to Dangote and Erisco for blazing the trail. |
Bring her back into the family financial planning...but this time have a real discussion. Draw up a financial plan and discuss the details with her. I am sure if she is made aware of how you intend to spread the money to ensure you get by as a family while also planning for the future, you will get her buy in. Secondly, if she has a job, please insist that she contributes her quota to the common purse both in the recurrent and capital expenditure aspect and in the "saving for a rainy day" also. That sense of inclusiveness could go a long way in forcing her back to reality and curbing her "wastefulness". It doesn't look to me like your wife is a bad woman. She's probably still caught up in the euphoria of a whirlwind period of courtship and been married to an upwardly mobile young man. Do not give up on her and avoid acting from a position of frustration and anger at her current behaviour. She is still the woman you fell in love with and married. What you saw is still in her. See it as your duty to ensure you add value to her by helping her overcome her excesses and you will be the better for it. Also realise that you are also not perfect so open up yourself up to improvement. A good marriage is so because a lot of work went into it. Roll up your sleeves and get to work bringing out the best in your wife. Take charge of your home! |
Lanretoye:Well for one, the poorest people aren't on Nairaland because they cannot afford data. Thank God you can...so you aren't one of them. |
Most of these big men carry these kinds of phones for security reasons. Smartphones are easy to hack and track. |
kettle84:I don't know which "case" you are talking about. But last I heard, the court turned down his bail application and asked that he be remanded in DSS custody for the duration of the trial. The ruling yesterday is not that he will be tried secretly per se but that government's witnesses will use fake names and be be screened so he cannot see them. This is ostensibly to protect the witnesses whose lives may be under threat for daring to testify against Mr. Kanu. Google "secret trials" and you will see it isn't unprecedented. If Mr. Kanu did not prepare himself physically, psychologically and spiritually for what he is going through presently before heading down this road, he only has himself to blame. His current ordeal pales into insignificance when compared with the likes of Nelson Mandela and Mahatma Ghandi who both championed similar causes for their people. Sincerely speaking, Mr. Kanu hasn't seen anything yet. |
kettle84:He chose a very wrong place and time to "yell out" his frustrations. Did you notice how his lawyers were frantically trying to get him to calm down? That is because they know that the man, is using his own mouth to do untold damage his case. |
More like disgraces himself.. ![]() |
The truth is that Mr. Kanu did himself no favors with this public meltdown. There is something about calmness and serenity in the face of oppression and persecution that confounds the "enemy". The DSS is pushing for a "secret" trial on the basis that they want to protect their witnesses. What Mr. Kanu has just done is help their case by losing composure and displaying violent behavior in open court. It is obvious that his lawyers know the negative implications of his outburst and that is why they were trying to bring him under control. He should have just continued to maintain his peaceful and calm demeanor and allowed his lawyers to do their job of challenging the ruling of the trial judge. It is unfortunate that he inadvertently helped the DSS make their case. |
This is a laudable move from Mrs. Buhari. I wish she and the Vice President's wife will also personally intervene and use their influence to resolve the palaver with the Falcons and their outstanding payment. Seeing that the players are also women, methinks the first Lady should champion their cause and ensure they get paid their dues by the NFF. |
EastGold:Must we belong to one side or the other? What happened to just being objective in our assessment of government's actions? Why can we just assess each action, commend the good ones and condemn the bad ones? If we all take sides politically, who then takes the side of the common good? Methinks that in this present day Nigeria, it takes a lot of courage to be as objective and unbiased as Femi Falana has been in my humble opinion. |
omonnakoda:Thanks for the correction. I got my dates mixed up. |
Cassava Bread was an initiative of the Obasanjo government in 2013. http://www.vanguardngr.com/2013/05/obasanjo-shares-40-cassava-bread-with-african-leaders/ http://www.premiumtimesng.com/news/134415-obasanjo-exports-cassava-bread-to-tanzania.html The Jonathan administration however, did very good by adopting and further pushing the policy. |
SkytrendNews:What is the meaning of this nonsense? How does the conduct of an election that was relatively peaceful in spite of all the prophecies of doom, translate to a descent into anarchy? The PDP really needs to get its house in order and become the opposition it needs to be. Some of these reactions are puerile and petty. |
When I read that nonsense story, I told someone that Fayemi can NEVER speak like that publicly about Tinubu. Not even Fashola will do that. They might have their ideological or political differences. But both men still hold BAT in very high regard and wouldn't want to join issues with him publicly. |
I give it to FFK....he is a fantastic writer. Sad to note however, that this excellent piece of prose is wasted on some self delusion about him being innocent and persecuted by the present government. Goodluck to him. I hope he clears his name so he can return to his family. |
SycophanticGoat:Methinks it is you that needs to do some reading sir. Boko Haram has always had fundamentalist ideals cloaked as a peaceful religious movement and because the initial campaign against their existence was not sustained, they morphed from a rag tag band of bandits to the well organised guerilla army they are presently. While I cringe at the heavy-handed tactics employed by government agencies in quelling the Shiite protests, I am afraid there is very little option left to the government in this case. It is either this matter is handled with kids gloves like Boko Haram and risk another debilitating wave of militancy or the government does the needful, howbeit painful. There is freedom of worship and association as long as it does not infringe on another citizens right or militate against national security. I grew up in Kaduna and Zaria where the Shiites have their headquarters and can tell you that the Shiites are far from a peaceful religious group. By the way here is a link that will give you a bit of a background information on the origins of Boko Haram. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Boko_Haram |
Otenestbestyaho:...And you think when "Iran comes" they will specifically target only enemies of the Shiites right? The elders say that the "Elulu" bird that is calling for a rainstorm has conveniently forgotten that the rain will fall on it too. Be careful what you wish for my friend. |
This is a stern warning to the EFCC....MR. FANI-KAYODE MUST NOT DIE OOOOO!!!! At least not before he returns all of the money he is suspected to have stolen ![]() The EFCC needs to ensure he gets top of the range medicare to keep him alive...even if it means giving him permanent residency in the commission's medical section. The law is no respecter of man. Period! |
