Politics / Re: PDP Insists On Northern Presidential Candidate - Rebuffs Obasanjo's Statements by revomind(m): 12:05pm On May 04, 2010
Interesting. So he means the PDP will not allow southerners to contest? What about Rimi in '99 ? Gemade in 2003 ? and Rochas in 2007 ? Mallam Baraje better adjust his alliances.

To be pragmatic, the East,if still interested in producing the president in the near future, should support a northern candidate. No problem. Why,to some peeps,it has to be IBB, i do not understand.

IBB has a right to contest just as Mr Murtala Abiola has the right to oppose his ambition. Some people are missing the point here, IBB needs to win the PDP ticket first. That would be as difficult as winning over the electorate in a free and fair election.

The truth is that its now very fashionable to criticise OBJ. While he has mostly himself to blame for his unpopularity, people should strive to put on their thinking caps while discussing public issues.

I understand a lot of people do not like the ex-president but these religious leaders just made themselves look ridiculous.
"Reminded that Obasanjo claims to be a born again Christian and even attended Bible College, Okonkwo dismissed him as a ‘baby Christian if he is one at all’. ‘I wonder what kind of Bible College he went to. I wonder those who admitted and taught him. He should sit in a Sunday School Class’’.

Funny, Bishop Okonkwo believes 'levels dey' for christianity.

'He wondered if Obasanjo could have said the same about Mohammed or Allah".
How can one logically explain this?

Obasanjo blasphemed Jesus, says Okonkwo, Osu, others

Church leaders across the nation yesterday accused former President Olusegun Obasanjo of blasphemy for declaring that even Jesus Christ cannot contest undisputed elections in Nigeria.

Obasanjo had said last Thursday night at the Leon Sullivan Dialogue on Nigeria held at the National Press Centre, Washington DC, USA that ‘with all due respect, if Jesus Christ could come to the world and be the chairman of INEC, any election he would conduct will be disputed’.

He also said free and fair elections would remain a mirage in Nigeria until politicians are reformed.

Reacting to Obasanjo’s prouncmement, Presiding Bishop of The Redeemed Evangelical Mission (TREM), Bishop Mike Okonkwo, who addressed newsmen at the church international headquarters in Lagos described it as "an insult to Christianity and blasphemy against God".

He expressed disgust at the former president’s penchant for talking down on the Christian faith, recalling how he once called a pastor an idiot during the popular ‘CAN, my foot’ saga in Jos.

Okonkwo assured that if Jesus were to conduct elections in Nigeria, it would not only be credible but also free and fair.

He said, "this Obasanjo is just a frivolous talker. He keeps talking like this because our people are not talking. We Christians like to take too much. What he has said this time is an insult to Christianity. It is dragging the Lord Jesus in the mud. It is a blasphemy and he should be told so’’.

Continuing, the vocal preacher said, ‘the last time he called a pastor an idiot and went behind to apologise. How can he link Jesus to electoral malpractices in Nigeria? If Jesus conducts elections in Nigeria, it would be credible because he is the Lord and knows what to do’.

Reminded that Obasanjo claims to be a born again Christian and even attended Bible College, Okonkwo dismissed him as a ‘baby Christian if he is one at all’. ‘I wonder what kind of Bible College he went to. I wonder those who admitted and taught him. He should sit in a Sunday School Class’’.

He said Obasanjo, if he were to be a member of his church, would ‘be put in foundation class where we can teach him the basics of Christianity’.

Okonkwo called on fellow Christian leaders not to take this insult lying low, and demanded for a retraction and public apology from the former president. ‘He should apologise and we should all speak out this time around,’ he stated.

The fiery preacher said all hope is not lost for credible elections in Nigeria, ealing for the implementation of the Justice Uwais’ report as well as determination on the parts of Nigerians to protect their votes.

In his own reaction, Director of Communciations, Catholic Archdiocese of Lagos, Monsigeur Gabriel Osu, also agreed that Obasanjo’s statement amounts to blasphemy.

He however said he must have been referring to the many complexities and imperfections in the nation.

According to Osu, "I believe he was just trying to say that Nigeria ia too complex where there are many imperfections but what is said is a careless statement that is blasphemous. I however think Obasanjo should not be taken serious. If he is humble enough, he should clarify what he sad and retract it".

General Overseer of The Stone Church, Ibadan, Pastor Alex Adegboye equally carpeted Obasanjo for a "an explosive statement that could set the nation aflame and implies God is limited".

He said Obasanjo has proved his critics right that his Christian credentials are fake and questionable. Except he repents, he said the former president may face the wrath of God.

His words, "This is a man who claims to be a Christian but he lacks respect and honour for Jesus. What he said is absolutely blasphemous. I am not disappointed, but I’m very upset.

"Is that why he conducted the worst elections in this country? I think the time of his judgement is very close because he is taking the God of grace for granted. The cup of his inquity is so full."

He wondered if Obasanjo could have said the same about Mohammed or Allah.

But in his own reaction, rewowned revivalist, Dr Uma Ukpai said Obasanjo must have been misquoted because he "is a Christian and loves the God".

He however said nothing is impossible with God who ‘sits at the centre of the universe and separates the nights from the days without fail".

Well I'm not suprised there are a lot of rock fans here. I love rock too just love rap a bit more. I'm suprised no one has mentioned the killers. Those guys are awesome. Think their first album 'hot fuss' made it to the best 100 albums chart of the noughties. Won't lie,it was the first rock album i heard completely. Red Hot Chilli Peppers are good too. Wonder why they are not getting a mention from anyone. 'By The Way' in 2001 was a good effort. Stumbled across a Marilyn Manson album recently and boy was i suprised! I think the band is not overrated at all. Other favorites are 3 Doors Down and One Republic.
Rock can't really penetrate Naija. Most folks think its jargon and certainly think you're weird when you've got a huge rock playlist. Don't see rock concerts selling out and naija rock bands with meaningful commercial success generally. Too bad.
Music/Radio / Re: Ekaette Song Gets Banned by revomind(m): 9:31pm On Apr 02, 2010
Well, I disagree with the ban. And to say that the NBC cannot ban foreign songs is unreasonable and tantamount to setting a low benchmark for the agency. Whatever your opinion is,y'all need to consider that the song has been out since october and has been a massive hit in the southwest, why did it take them that long anyway? Focusing on the song, the artiste always portrayed himself as the one in trouble,in the video, there wasn't a scene showing the man and the wife hugging with the househelp packing her bags, In the video,he was in a dilemma, serious trouble and advertently or inadvertently he demonstrated the dangers of irresponsible sex and the implications of having sex without proper protection. How can this be dangerous to kids The issue of stereotype is diminished by the form the artwork takes. Ever seen 'my name is khan' ? Would the movie make any sense or connect to contemporary issues if it wasn't portrayed through a muslim youth? No. The song or the video, except to the hyper-imaginative mind, did not portray efik/ibibio as whores or homebreakers in any way. The villain was the man. The NBC guys are just trying to justify their existence,i'm not against this but it shud be done reasonably, What warrants a ban in eedris' 'jagajaga'? Cuz he criticized the govt? What about tuface's 'enter the place'? I still watched this video on a Nigerian channel recently and they claim its banned! According to some people, its impossible to ban foreign songs that go like 'give this trigger a good squeeze' but very positive to ban jamz that portrays a young man in regret for taking on his househelp. Sad.

Why do I get the feeling that people are actually salivating at the prospect of this 'showdown' ? Anybody that knows the SW well will quickly realise this is nothing but an empty threat from an attention-seeking bigot. Ibadan is home to a lot of 'underground' fanatic clerics from mostly Ilorin and its all too easy to claim indigeneship in that town, after all, historically speaking, who owns the city? Not to digress, muslims in Oyo state esp Ibadan represent the final place where moslems hold any sort of influence in the SW. Thus, they get touchy and edgy abt religious issues a little more than your average muslim westerner who is liberal. If they complain about xtian schools and xtian prayers, they are just being aware of the rate their children are converting to xtianity left, rite and centre. Those that don't are just muslim by word and don't do much to the filling up of mosques at prayer times. So, i feel its paranoia. Reinhard Bonnke was in the city late last year and the city totally 'shut down' with record attendances. For this wannabe fanatics, its a source of worry thus the empty threats, I wonder who will pick up the arms, their fuji-bopping kids who dont mind going to church to check out broads All this na tori sha, that guy should be arrested and jailed for making that statement. Its totally irresponsible and insensitive coming around the same time children and women are being killed in Jos. My 2 cents.

And again, perhaps your comprehension level ain't that high too since you couldn't deduce that the debate was if a genocide can be said to arise from a war. Nobody was arguing about what the cause or reason for the war was. Wait aren't you the guy that started a topic about which tribe is more numerous on facebook? Shouldn't take such a person seriously.
Politics / Re: HISTORY LESSON: Nigeria/Biafran Civil War Most Famous Quotes!! by revomind(m): 7:22pm On Nov 14, 2009
Oh Richyblack,i guess the Igbos were in love with the northerners when eastern soldiers wiped away essentially their ruling class and made fun out of it even in northern towns or when ironsi was orchestrating policies that would have enslaved northerners in the north. Yeah maybe its love but pogroms by the northerners aint nothing but hate, For any war, there's an underlying and basic reason. So since you're the smart and brainy one that has managed 2 get hold of the sacred and not-easily-accessible or understandable reasons for the war,u can purport 2 educate the rest, thats if they are interested tho'.
Politics / Re: HISTORY LESSON: Nigeria/Biafran Civil War Most Famous Quotes!! by revomind(m): 7:08pm On Nov 14, 2009
Nicely put citizeny. Anybody that has a contrary opinion to what these self-styled historians say is regarded an igbo-hater. They say its a genocide, you say no it isn't,next thing they label your fathers rapists and oppressors. They say they are jewish, you try to view it from a scientific angle, next thing they say you're envious. And you'd better not disagree with them on anything about Ojukwu or else, At the risk of incurring their wrath,i will say again,it was a war and looking thru our history 2geda as a country and even during the war, there's nothing to suggest that things would have been different if roles were switched. Regrettable it is but aint nobody walking around with some chip or guilt about what happend some 40 years ago in some war. I don't feel sorrier for biafra's casualty than i do when i read abt say, millions of russians who lost their lives in WW2. Terrorist bombings and the deaths they result from are neutrally sadder than when two groups choose to go at each other. My kid challenges anoda kid 2 a fight and gets thoroughly beaten is different from when he's bullied by a far stronger and older kid.
Politics / Re: HISTORY LESSON: Nigeria/Biafran Civil War Most Famous Quotes!! by revomind(m): 5:08pm On Nov 14, 2009
Well, you seem to be adamant on the genocide thing and i guess i'll just leave you to it. Dede, hope you now see it wasn't a matter of lack of comprehension. Eziachi holds firmly to the view that the Biafran War was a genocide on Igbo people. He's not referring 2 any pogrom. I bet his opinion surprises you too.
Politics / Re: HISTORY LESSON: Nigeria/Biafran Civil War Most Famous Quotes!! by revomind(m): 3:07pm On Nov 14, 2009
Genocide. Nazis committed one on jews, the ruling hutus on tutsis in rwanda, milosevic of yugoslavia on the muslim bosnians. Whatever arises after 2 groups declare war can hardly be seen as genocide. Pearl Harbour and Hiroshima,Japs struck then the Americans in vengeance. The american response was more severe because they were stronger. Mr Eziachi, it was the Biafran War not a Genocide on Igbo people. Nixon, senator kennedy and a 'reputable newspaper' calling it one does not make it one. A far higher casualty on one side can never qualify war as a genocide. You should know this.
One more thing,i see you are trying 2 suggest to young non-igbo people that their fathers are rapists. Ludicrous! You sound like a serious bigot who would have done worse than your perceived enemies. You specifically mentioned yoruba people and that got me wondering. Since you are the master of digging out hidden historical truths,i'm suprised that you didn't know that the bulk of foot soldiers were from the north and even neighbouring countries like Niger. And that to be fair, they have always been the least represented in the nigerian army. I maintain that it was a regrettable war situation fuelled by mutual hatred. It could have been either way.
Politics / Re: HISTORY LESSON: Nigeria/Biafran Civil War Most Famous Quotes!! by revomind(m): 1:32pm On Nov 14, 2009
First of all, I must confess that i'm young and not Igbo. 'The pogrom they started' according to Radio Kaduna, What i can understand is a case of mutual hatred that culminated in the stronger group having the upper hand in war( a serious upper hand if we look at the statistics) I'm young but i've been to school, i know there are always two sides to a story. I also know the art of propaganda. Eziachi seems to be on a mission, whatever it is,lets have it at the back of our mind that it was a war. For that,i believe there must have been some news worthy things that came from the biafran side. Nobody cares to tell us,for instance, how the rebels dealt with the eastern minorities who did not consider secession a good idea. The world's a funny place;whats good or right depends on how it affects you. I will never mock the loss of 2m lives but at the risk of sounding indifferent, i put it to those still romanticising the whole war situation that if we reverse the roles, switch sides or replace the FG's strength with that of biafra and vice versa, we would have the same situation of war crimes and their agelong justification 'all is fair in war'. There is nothing in this country's history that suggests that any ethnicity would not respond in such a merciless manner if it had been the dominant one given the circumstances. It must be acknowledged that Propaganda is a very strong weapon but also exaggerated. People talk about war crimes as if war is an ideal situation, A list of quotes can be compiled that will efficiently serve the purpose of painting biafra black, It is believed that the southwest dominates the local media. They paint themselves as progressives, ideological etc. Then they paint the north as parasitical, rapacious and power mongering. The east as confused, crime infested and being plagued with a political class that really couldn't care less about their people. This is nothing but propaganda, southwest is indeed more in need of a moral evaluation. The desire to paint one side in the war as the righteous and just one combined with the desire to force down those theories down people's throats is apart from being funny and misplaced, unnecessary. The war is gone. Most of nigeria's internet using population weren't even born. Thus they find it hard to understand this spewing of hatred and claims of superiority that is now so commonplace on internet forums. More Nigerians now have relatives from other ethnic groups, inter ethnic marriages seem to be on the rise and those that actually live in Nigeria or actually know something bout nigeria's current travails as a nation are at a consensus that our political class+individual attitudes are the biggest problems. From Uba to Kalu to Anenih to Obasanjo to Akala to Daniel to Atiku to Mark, to Me to You. Lets get our priorities right. You can diss all u want. Just that i won't respond.

That Lulu is just trying to protect some players' interests is not debatable. Can he claim not to know that we field over-aged players in these tournaments? Why reject something that will fish out age cheats? That being said,we really should stop this tribal bashing. Nobody has made any reckless generalisation of Edo people in light of Amodu's ineptitude as coach, neither did we do that to Chukwu and Onigbinde, coaches who,we must remember, failed in one aspect or the other. I imagine n'landers as highly educated people. They should know that tribalism is beneath them and that generalisations are fallacious.
As for Siasia, i remember there was a problem about his age too way back and i also know that like other nigerian coaches,he's been fielding age cheats(isaac promise?). From his comments,i sense ideological myopia. Like if we can't get caught, let the game go on or if we can prove by whatever means that they are not age cheats, then they are not. For God's sake,a passport can contain falsehoods! The clampdown should be seen as positive with a lot of longterm benefits. Food for thought= saudi '89 stars rui costa and luis figo are still active to some level, adepoju who played in the same tournament now carries a potbelly and is chairman or smthing at 3sc fc in ibadan, ikpeba anyone? No one knows.
