“Our continent is the greatest continent on earth. We keep saying God help us, I think when the man looks down and sees all our resources…my country is 170million people, China is a threat to the world now because of their numbers, Nigeria is a threat to the world because we’re a 170million people, Africa is a threat to the world. What does that tell us? If we decide, as a race, that we want to succeed, nobody can stop us.”

Will forcing or coercing this country to accept what is against its religious and cultural ethics make its economy better or make it become a slave of the US and its western allies? If Bab Buhari wants to succeed, he should keep them at bay.

Castos:
Many have done things you'd never imagine just to live through each passing day. The issue of dichotomy between HND and BSC shouldn't way anyone down or make the other think and believe he/she is better and more favoured.

Most firms and government bodies might employ and promote people with BSC because there has been this frame of mind built round the two certs and not that the individuals involved cannot do the same job well enough. When you say that Poly graduates are Technicians (we know) but what about courses like, Accounting, Pub. Admin, Mass communication, and does it mean that there're Technicians and engineers in Architecture, Building tech in fact the whole school of environmental.

Not withstanding, many judge their dichotomy in terms of Jamb cut-off mark (that doesn't mean that someone who is in the Poly can't make such scores and better) what is big between 200 and 180 as cut-off marks (even at times Universities take it down to 180 due to mass failure in Jamb), I can rewrite next year and do better but I decided to follow the other way.

In this present time where unemployment is the order of the day, and the society is calling for skill acquisition, which cert is more favoured. Now a HND holder is qualified and can still work in that same firm he was rejected at and can also survive on his own due the skill acquired in school. Even in with OND, my friend is working in a bank and furthering his education through weekend program. I myself, as an Architectural student, I've made so many designs and am handling some sites as of now (with OND).

So please my dearest Nairaland siblings, in my own opinion, both certs does not guarantee a better future or make you a hotter cake but it sharpens your way to greatness through what you've done with it not what it has done for you.
boay: Hello Nairalanders

Some human resources managers and other pundits in related fields have been peddling the idea of 'unemployability' to save and help Nigerian graduates.

One of them once said during a lecture that 'the problem of nigerian graduates is not the prevalence of unemployment that has pervaded the country's economy, but unemployability'

Inasmuch as it is crystal clear that unemployment is prevalent in our country, we should not give this as an exclusive excuse. It is important for us to focus on what we can change id est 'employability'. We can only complain about the high rate of unemployment, only our leader can change the staus quo.

So my question is how can a graduate be an employeable one?

With my 23 years of experience across administrative cadres of an audit firm, two law firms, a medical concern and a conglomerate where i spent my last 15 years before retiring in August 2012 at the age of 39, I have found so many things wrong with Nigerian graduates and why the best employers dont go for them. The standard of education has fallen to the extent where graduates commit hell of mistakes in basic communication. Why this is prevalent is that the Nigerian graduate dont read books beyond their texts. I once asked an interviewee graduate what was his prospect working for our organisation. He replied" I will do my best to perform well on the job"Tautology. He met his Waterloo with that answer. You can hardly see a Nigerian graduate reading a motivational book, watching an educative television program like Donald Trumps apprentice, or even attending a seminar for the sake of it. Some are simply arrogant and have no regards for bureaucracy because their qualifications has made them crazy. They are thinking of a job that can provide the good things of life for them. So easy to make a lot of money. We dont pick it on trees.A Nigerian graduate hates pressure. They cant work in the most difficult environment. They know little of Customer relations management. Most graduates of Business administration cant even write a sales pitch or business plan. They argue that they were not taught these things in school. Even if they are not, they dont reason that such little things matter on the way up. Most of them lack initiative and dont have future plans until the reality sets in.

I am now an entrepreneur.

I believe they should simply change their approach to life and get into the information age as fast as they can. That is a chip of the iceberg for you undergraduates and graduates reading this. Cheers.

Samfigo1:
Nairalanderz I hail thee....
Goodday everyone , I want to share what I am going through at present, I want your advice or better still judge me I could be wrong with my action.
I have been cohabiting with a lady for a week now, before I move on let me share how the cohabitation began.
This girl came to our house when she was seeking admission to a school close to my house, one of my housemates accommodated her, he claimed the girl was his girlfriend, eventually, the girl got admitted into the school and started living with the guy but after two weeks they had misunderstandings the girl had no where to go, this lady in question since she came into the house I have taken her as my sister and my friend so we had good rapport. After the misunderstanding with her boyfriend she walked up to me and told me she wanted to leave her boyfriend's room for my room and that it won't last long just for mean time I concurred with immediate alarcrity I told her no qualm after consulting her boyfriend about her plan, the guy said he has no problem as regards her plan. The following day she packed her things inside my room, I thought I was dreaming, I started mulling on what to do, someone I have taken as my sister chei! Kongi na bastard you know now.... I kept calm, that night we were discussing she started telling me stories on the same matress with me, suddenly, I kept mute I was not responding to her super story I was even facing down because I was trying to pack my John Thomas I didn't want her to see the kind of press up it was performing, she thought I had slept so she kept quiet. After few minutes I did as if I jarupaing Lol. pardon me sleep walking or unconcious turning anyhow (you should have understood) I put one of my hands across, lo and behold it rested on her bossoms I was thinking she would throw away my hand but she didn't, that was why I drew her closer and we started kissing, pressing and the likes but whenever I wanted to go down low she would say stop and I would sluggishly take my hand off her, after 4-5 days I could not control the urge, I said to myself tonight I must enter this girl, when night came we started as usual when I was about going down she said stop I did as if I didn't hear, I was trying to unclothe her, she was still saying stop but I turned deaf ears when I was about to remove her undies she started crying profusely I was like what the hell! Did I beat you? She did say a word other than crying after few seconds she said ''it's because I'm staying here'' my blood that was flowing for 140km/min just slowed down and I left her on the matress and slept off. The following day she did not leave and this sexual urge was unresistable. Nairalanders am I taking advantage of herhuh? or was she trying to form? If I asked her to leave she has no place to go what can I do?
Stop disguising this story, you had a bad intention right from the word go.

Travel › Re: Help! Friends, Family & Former School Mates From Nig Are Killing Me With Demands by rhames(m): 4:48pm On Jul 10, 2015
astrodome:
Help!! Friends, family, former school mates and others are killing me with financial demands. Everyday I receive facebook (fb) messages, phone calls, email messages and messages from other communication avenues from family members, friends close and distant, school mates I have not seen in 20 years but with whom I reconnected on fb, and even random fb friends (meaning I do not know them personally but somehow we managed to be friends on fb). They all have the same story: please send me money, anything.

Each month I send nearly 3k to Nigeria and they keep asking for more.

Do they think I pluck money from trees in America?
Do they think every Nigerian in America is doing drugs or credit card fraud to make money?
Are they thinking that since Akin or Emeka made it in America (in many cases by selling drugs and doing credit card fraud), I should also make it and therefore be able to satisfy their unending demands?

How do I explain to them that I have bills (auto, mortgage, water-sewer, electricity, gas, phone, credit card) to pay. And then I have to run my family (of 4) and fuel 2 cars, and on top of that, I have to save also for the rainy day - for when kids get to college.

I am able to resist the random fb friends because I do not have any personal connection with them, but how do I scare the ones I know off without sounding rude and unhelping? I know that when you stop giving, you become an enemy.
Help! Before a fellow nairalander runs amock on the streets of America because of pressure from Nigeria cry cry cry cry

Just for disclosure: I am well-heeled in the US mid-upper middle class, earning a 6-figure pay, holds a PhD, and involved in R4D activities. But I live in a US city (name withheld) where mortgage payment alone takes 25% of my monthly income. So you can imagine that after paying all bills, I do not have tons of money left over to give out on frequent basis.

Please advise on how to handle this, Naija style grin grin. Thanks
ignore these people and concentrate on your purpose there. How many of them supported you financaially morally and otherwise when you were struggling to get there? Well i wish you good luck with your father Xmas attitude.

You almost created the Impression of one..

Guess is you're related to one.
an added advantage is if you are a black belt holder or martial artist.

if you had studied surveillance in your spare time and applied it to your daily lives.

of course if you had achieved certain heroics like catching a terrorist BH member single handed without any weapon.

Anyways sometimes the criteria does not matter but the capability of the individual to do that duty very well.
