Wow, after a loooooooooooooooong time I feel totally relieved because I could read a well focused thread. The machine-readable passport (MRP) expected to be phased out as a valid travel document by the end of December 2010 and replaced with the harmonised ECOWAS biometrics passport (e-passport) has been extended to the end of April 2011. Minister of Interior, Emmanuel Ihenacho, made the disclosure at a media briefing on the 2010 Ministerial Scorecard of the ministry yesterday in Abuja after receiving strong petition from Nigeria Union of Journalist, Europe Chapter's Chairman, Mr Wole Arisekola. Ihenacho stated that the earlier date had to be reviewed given the anticipated rush by those yet to change to the harmonised ECOWAS e-passport before the deadline. The Interior Minister, while listing the achievements of the Nigerian Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC), the Nigerian Immigration Service (NIS), Nigerian Prisons and the Federal Fire Service, also disclosed that due to the demand for the e-passport by Nigerians in the Diaspora, the NIS had provided 15 mobile enrolment machines with 135 officers trained for passport intervention programme on six continents to meet the demand

THE Federal Government on Tuesday announced the extension deadline for expiration of the Machine Readable Passport (MRP) to the Harmonised ECOWAS Electronic (Smart) Passport, otherwise called e-passport from December 31, 2010 to April 30, 2011.

The Minister of Interior, Captain Emmanuel Ihenacho, who made this known during the presentation of his ministry’s scorecard for 2010, in Abuja, said the December 31 deadline earlier announced was not feasible because a lot of complaints had been received by the ministry from most Nigerians abroad who were yet to obtain the e-passport.

He disclosed that in order to protect and meet the expected high demand for the e-passport from Nigerians in diaspora, the Nigerian Immigration Service had procured 15 mobile enrolment and 135 officers had been selected and trained for passport intervention programme in the six continents of the world.

Having pitied her for been silly and how her flesh would have been minced in China,  something tells me she did not pay all necessary dues. That was just a tip off move by the Drug Enforcement officer. Nonetheless it has saved the accussed  life from being terminated in China.
