BusinessSeven Million Ghanaians Very Poor by RickyRoss1(op): 9:25pm On Oct 07, 2011
About seven million Ghanaians are desperately poor, despite strides made in achieving the Millenium Development Goals (MDGs), according to Professor Kodwo Ewusi, Rector of the West End University College.

He said about nine million Ghanaians did not have access to potable water, coupled with poor nutrition and low adult literacy rate.

Speaking at an inaugural lecture in Accra, organized by the Ghana Academy of Arts and Sciences, Prof. Ewusi quoted from the United Nations Development Programme poverty index, saying Ghana was ranked 89 out of 135 countries with an index of 28. 1 per cent poverty ratio.

“Ghana’s 28. 1 per cent poverty ratio implies that seven million Ghanaians are desperately poor,” Prof. Ewusi explained. He said although Ghana was relatively doing well in achieving the MDGs, policy makers should not be lured into complacency.

“Achieving the MDGs per se is not enough,” he noted, adding that the government had to do more to achieve zero poverty rates in Ghana by the next decade.

He said with the striking of oil in commercial quantities, there was hope for the country to reverse her poverty incidence.

“The production of oil has propelled the growth of the economy into double digits, with expected growth rate of 17. 5 per cent. The average growth for 2012 to 2015 will exceed 10 per cent and will catapult Ghana to a per capital income of $4800 in 2015,” Prof. Ewusi added

Culture4 Gang-rape Banker by RickyRoss1(op): 8:56pm On Oct 07, 2011
A labourer and three others, who allegedly gang-raped a banker and robbed her off her belongings at gunpoint, have been remanded into custody, after being arraigned before an Accra Circuit court and charged with robbery and rape on Wednesday.

The accused persons, Usiff Abdulraman; labourer, Abdulai Alui; trader, Agyeman Badu; unemployed, and Kwasi Tawiah alias Taller; driver, together with their accomplices, Demio, Noah and Papa, all at large, are alleged to have raped the victim at gunpoint in turns, through her vagina and anus, at the home of the complainant, after their robbery escapade.

The accused persons allegedly managed to make away with the complainant’s six mobile phones, quantity of wax prints, wedding ring, Sony digital camera, ignition key to her Honda CRV 4X4 car, and cash of GH¢400.

They are standing trial before the court, presided over by Mr. Eric Kyei Baffour, on charges of conspiracy to commit crime, robbery and rape, and have pleaded not guilty to the charges.

The court, therefore, refused them bail, and remanded them into custody to reappear on October 21, 2011.

The facts of the case indicate that on August 7, 2011, at about 2:30.a.m. whilst the complainant and her family were fast asleep, the accused persons and their accomplices, namely Demio, Noah and Papa, who are currently at large, invaded the house.

According to the Prosecutor, ASP Reindolf Agyemang, the accused persons were armed with guns, sticks, hacksaw blade and a big crow bar and surrounded the house of the complainant, forced the glass door leading to the living room open with the crow bar, and at gunpoint ransacked every room of the five-bedroom self-contained house. A report was made to the Adenta Police for investigation at about 7:20 a.m. the same day.

The prosecutor told the court “On September 8th, 2011, the police had a tip off that the third accused person was among a group of armed robbers who had been robbing and raping innocent citizens of Oyarifa, Adenta, and its environs, and was arrested,” the prosecutor noted.

The prosecutor intimated that the accused person admitted the offence during interrogation and when a search was conducted at his residence at Glife, one pump action gun was found. He later led the police to arrest the first and second accused persons, while the fourth accused person was later arrested from his hideout upon a tip-off.

“The fourth accused person was identified by the complainant as one of the suspects who robbed the house,” the prosecutor said.

“In their caution statement, they admitted the offences and mentioned Demio, Noah and Papa as their accomplices,” ASP Agyemang stressed.

HealthGhana's Health Sector Ranked 2nd Most Corrupt In Africa After Chad by RickyRoss1(op): 8:47pm On Oct 07, 2011
A report by the World Bank called "Quiet Corruption" has revealed that 95 per cent of resources allocated to the health sector in Ghana was diverted into the pockets of individuals.

Ghana is second to Chad in terms of the most corrupt when it comes to managing resources in the health sector in Africa.

“Quiet Corruption” is an annual Africa Development Indicators report that revealed that the problem of corruption goes beyond bribes and graft and affects health, education, and agriculture sectors on the continent.

The 2010 report painted a gloomy picture of Ghana’s health sector alleging that officials are failing to deliver government goods and services to the ordinary people they are aimed at.

The sordid situation has saddened the Commission on Human Rights and Administrative Justice (CHRAJ). The commission said it has begun developing vigorous programmes to change the attitude of Ghanaians when it comes to corruption.

Speaking on the Citi Breakfast Show on Wednesday, deputy Commissioner of CHRAJ, Richard Quayson, indicated that the commission’s upcoming conference on integrity is a step towards addressing the issue of corruption in the country.

According to him, “because we are not committed to the systems we have put in place, we do not make it work and that also allows people to now begin to see the individuals so that they can get their corrupt practices recognised in the system. ”

“You speak to some institutions and the first impression that they give you is that what you are bringing up is ideal, but it will not work in Ghana.

"In other words they are saying that it should not work so if even you try to introduce it they would make sure that they frustrate the system so that it does not work,” Quayson noted.

CHRAJ said prosecuting people found to be corrupt will not address the situation totally until a vigorous educational campaign is carried out.

“Mindset also has behavioral attitude which has to do with corruption as well and our approach is not just improving the system or getting the system right, but also about the individuals or the people in the society, working on the people to change their attitude,” he added.

FamilyRe: Are You Honest With Your Spouse? by RickyRoss1(m): 11:41am On Oct 04, 2011
Yeah its not everything that you must tell a woman. I love my wife but I do things that she doesn't know about and that doesn't mean I don't love or trust her.
Is it wise and advisable to tell your wife that you have phucked dozens of girls in Africa, Asia, Canada, Russia, Thailand, Philippines, USA, Germany etc? Before I married I was a bad boy, i did a lot of travelings and so many things happened behind the scenes and I don't think Its wise to start telling my wife everything?

Another example is this, my wife is Ghanian, I have a property in Ghana and we are living there as tenants, my wife doesn't know the house belongs to me. My wife is very cool but I fear some of these stupid Ghana girls will spoil her mind one day and I may loose the house coz that's what Ghana girls do to Nigerian men.
BusinessRe: Little Known Ways Nigeria's Richest Pastors Made And Are Making Their Money by RickyRoss1(m): 11:29am On Oct 04, 2011
stagger:
Tb Joshua is only known because he televises his charity work. That other churches do not plaster their giving on TV does not mean they do not do it. Presently, my own branch of Winners is sponsoring a day care, primary and secondary school. And the money comes from tithes and also contributions from church members to cater for orphans and the needy. Everything is provided for: uniforms, books, facilities, teachers' salaries, etc. The children who attend do not pay a dime. My own money has gone in there and I know what it is used for.

That is why I get incensed beyond limits when people on the outside who don't know jack about what goes on in the ministry only zero down to talk about private jets. Bishop oyedepo has given out several cars to church members and held auctions to sell off more at highly reduced costs. This I know for a fact. The Winners Church is HEAVILY involved in charity work. When I mean heavily, I mean HEAVILY.

This is also why I have always quarreled with those who criticise the catholic church. I am not catholic, but I know that the catholic church is heavily involved in charity work even though they do not broadcast it. besides, who are we to judge? Is it not left for God whom we all worship to judge on the last day who his true worshippers are

I really don't know why people decide to become myopic when it concerns church.
Sentiments apart, TB Joshua helps much more people, orphans, widows, street children etc than any other Nigerian pastor. Also, giving a lot of money to poor people doesn't make any pastor good or bad, but let the truth be told.

Winners, Redeemed, Christ Embassy etc should really borrow a leaf from TB Joshua. Let me ask you again, what is a man of God doing with 4 private jets when many members of their church are in financial crisis? How come these church universities are extremely expensive? Why didn't they make these universities free of charge to members of their congregation after all they are men of God they dont need too much money?

Truth is, church is BIG business here in BLACK AFRICA. If we stop paying tithes and offerings most of our pastors will look for another job. These pastors are worth billions of dollars in my own opinion, so they are supposed to be building schools across every Nigerian state free of charge, rather all their primary, secondary schools and universities are the most expensive even though we pay our tithes, I am not judging anyone I am only saying things the way they are.

lmao, I didn't even bother to read this. Anybody who believes this topic is just wilding. Politicians at it again. December 2012? Say word.
Brother believe this man. I live in PHC, everything this man said he will do he has actually done it. He doesnt make empty promises at all. I know he is not perfect and I am not here to praise him, but this man is doing great work in Rivers State especially in security, education, health, road construction etc. His problem is he was very fast during his first tenure, these days he is not as fast as last year.

Also, he is patronizing rivers people/companies a lot without minding whether they will deliver or not. Every single road that is poorly done in PHC is being handled by a rivers company in the name of rivers money for rivers people. He said he will not repeat the mistake again, we are watching him closely.
BusinessRe: Little Known Ways Nigeria's Richest Pastors Made And Are Making Their Money by RickyRoss1(m): 10:04pm On Oct 03, 2011
I am not against a man of God being rich, I am just against the way they just tell us series of LIES just to get alot of money from us, and yet they dont care about the poor members of their congregation.

I used to worship with one of these so called mega churches before, but when i needed help they were not there for me. Back then I so much wanted to personally speak with my pastor but I was too small to have his phone number, only presidents, governors, rich politicians etc are allowed to have access to him because he is a God. Anyways i quit and found myself a small church in Port Harcourt where i worship when am in the country, when i travel i worship anywhere, sometimes in Catholic church etc depending on where I am and what is closest to me.

Right now my pastor is my family friend, I call him anytime i need to speak with him, he prays for me and my family, he simply cares abut me and this is exactly what i wanted from my former church/pastor. I want my pastor to be my best friend and confidant. As a pastor you are not only supposed to collect my tithe and tell me God said this and that when in real sense most of these people dont hear from God, they just use peoples mentality,

The only Great man of God I seem to admire soo much is TB Joshua even though I dont worship there. Most times I watch their Sunday broadcast live on TV. The other so called SAINT men of God in Nigeria talk rubbish about TV Joshua, He is actually the one doing what others cannot do. TB Joshua is feeding and clothing hundreds of widows/widowers. His scholarship program and football academy is open to everyone, both Muslims and Christians. He helps poor members of the public more than any other pastor in Nigeria. The other men of God claim TB Joshua is using Satans power, my brothers how do we know whose powers is real and fake when all of these pastors uses Gods name to perform miracleshuh

For the records Christ embassy members are more than half a million. The 40,000 this site mentioned is it just the members in one single branch in Lagos or Christ embassy members in all over the world? What is a pastor doing with 4 private jets when millions of their church members are poor and needy? Also, how come after paying tithes these church universities are among the most expensive in Nigeria? How come these mega churches are not building free schools and hospitals all over the Nigeriahuh
In my opinion these listed pastors are like 70 times richer than we think/assume, just imagine how many millions of dollars a church like winners or Redeem generate every single day from offering, tithes, books etc. Like is said before, there is nothing wrong in a pastor being rich, but they MUST help poor members of the public, There is this report that pastor Chris has 40 brand new jeeps or so, what is a man of God doing with all these cars? Is he a car dealer? Why cant he give some of these cars out? I dont know which pastor is good or bad, and am not gonna judge anyone. But my happiness is that God is coming soon to end these evil way of things.
BusinessRivers To Enjoy 24-hour Power Supply By December Of 2012 -amaechi by RickyRoss1(op): 9:25pm On Oct 03, 2011
Monday, October 3, 2011

Rivers State governor, Rt HonourableChibuike Amaechi, has said the plan and target of his administration is to have 24 hours power supply in the state by December of 2012.

Amaechi spoke at the 2011 edition of the Nigeria Independence Anniversary Celebration (NIAC) night organised by the Shell Club, Port Harcourt, at the weekend.

He expressed confidence that, although, the power problem could not be fixed in a hurry, his administration would achieve the goal within the set time.

The governor expressed confidence in his administration's ability to deliver on this target considering what the state was doing in both the new Afam power plants and Eleme power plant.

"You know the power problem cannot be addressed overnight, but once our Independent power projects come on stream, power outage will be a thing of the past," he said.

Amaechi further stated that, by January next year, about seven of the ongoing major roads and flyovers under construction in Port Harcourt, would be completed and open to traffic.

The projects include the Ken Saro-Wiwa/Stadium Road, Chief G.U Ake Road, Olu-Obasanjo Road, Obiri Ikwerre/East-West flyover and interchange, Choba/NTA Road and the Ikwerre Road-Agip Junction flyover, among others.

He also hinted of plans to construct and reconstruct roads in Oyigbo. "As soon as the rain stops, we will do the roads in Oyigbo and fix the major roads in the area," he said.

Governor Amaechi, who used the event to list the strides of his administration, remarked that he had embarked on massive road constructions all over the state.

He reiterated his administration's strides to improve security in the State, hence the success of the 17th National Sports Festival now adjudged as one the best in the history of the event in the country.
PoliticsRe: Tallest Buildings In Nigeria by RickyRoss1(m): 7:51pm On Oct 03, 2011
musiwa.,.:
No single one of the tall building in yorubaland was built with oil money. except for Nitel. which the federal govt sold. Now here is it. The problem with ijaw people is. they feel, oil is the only thing in an economy. so they feel the oil is what makes economy. that is not true.

The correct story is, we had a federation of north , west and east. and each of them was a separate govt.  While the west mostly yorubas developed their own area. the east and northern leaders rob their own people. This is what happen.

you can go on the internet, you will see  Yorubas calling Tinubu a thief , but you cant find igbo or northerners calling their leaders who stole from them thief. Now the same igbo and northerners. go and re elect the same thief back to power. and they expect development.

The building own by Yoruba people have nothing to do with OIl money, they were built by non oil money.  It was never based on cheating by Yoruba people because the north control power for 40 years.

What happen is like people who collect welfare depend on the government. The rest of Nigeria depend on welfare from the government of Nigeria. The Government of Nigeria dont like the Yorubas people. so we dont get anything.  So the Yorubas have to do without the government. And if you dont get anything from the  government sometime,  you look for other ways to live.  Life is without vacuum.

When you talk about banking in nigeria. Most of the bank term yoruba banks mostly have branches in Yorubaland and outside the country because the other ethnic group are been wide to them. Ethnic hate.

The others Nigerian have no right to claim what is not their own because they never invested anything into this company or even into the nation of Nigeria. So they should not complain.

the north does not invest anything into the nigeria government revenue, the igbos dont contribute too,  they only take from it. Please quote me. So you cant be saying you want to share something you never contributed too, if nigeria break up.  This is why leadership is very important. To my igbo friends. Igbos celebrate thief. It is time to stop that.

And this is why most part of Nigeria is under develop because they all dont want to contribute anything.

Like I said if Jonathan goodluck did not quickly close down Nigeria passport office in Canada before the election. there is NO way in the world Jonathan Goodluck will beat me, in an election. And denied fellow Nigerian passport is an impeachment under Nigeria constitution. Jonathan Goodluck should read the constitution.

Why have the yorubas done this. You can see Yorubas calling Tinubu a thief ,  they do the same to obasanjo too, this is our secret.

We dont appoint thief back to power. You can see most yoruba governor only use one term.  you will be lucky to use two term.   We go for out performance.

The Yorubas invested in a company call Odua investment, the other ethnics stole all of their people money. Do you blame yoruba people for what other ethnic group did to their people No.

The only thing Nigerian can share if nigeria break up are in abuja, the banks stole by the nigeria government have no nigeria govt investment in them. Nigeria govt is telling a lie.

Come to think of it? 26 stories and some people are having high tension? Relax 26 stories is standard for residential buildings  in high rise areas. Nigeria will reach the mark of tall bldgs when it crosses the mark of 50 stories and up ( at least almost half of that of the WTC in NY).

PoliticsRe: Tallest Buildings In Nigeria by RickyRoss1(m): 12:38pm On Oct 03, 2011
These yoyoba people no go kill me with laughter. Just bc there is a 50 million storey building in Lagos doesn't mean it belongs to yoyoba people. Just tell us in simple terms how many of those tall buildings that belong to yoyobah?

There is nothing wrong in having the tallest buildings in Lagos after all Lagos was our Federal Capital for such a long time. To that fool saying the tallest buildings in Africa are located in Lagos, i will give you little assignment, just travel to South Africa, Botswana and Egypt. Just go to google and you can easily find out the tallest buildings in Africa, none of them is even in Nigeria. Nitel, NNPC, all the banks and multinational companies have their operational base in Lagos and that's why there are so many tall buildings in Lagos state. Just name any other yorobah state outside Lagos that has tall buildings?

As a matter of fact I am just returning from Abeokuta, Ogun State. I went with my yorobah friend an army officer for a marriage ceremony. I couldn't believe Ogun state is this under developed? For Gods sake Ogun is among the richest states in SW Nigeria, so if Ogun/Abeokuta is this poor how would other SW states look like?

Throughout my stay in Abeokuta I did not see any single new road, all the roads are old and very bad with big potholes. IS there any governor in this state at all? When i traveled to other states like Enugu, OWerri, Uyo, Port Harcourt etc I saw dozens of mega projects everywhere. Enugu parades the best road network in Nigeria, I am not from there but just go and see. The governor of Akwaibom is doing wonders as well. Even though people trash talk Peter Obi of Anambra but he is miles, I mean miles ahead of whatever muppet that is ruling Ogun State.

Throughout my stay in Ogun state there was total blackout in the ENTIRE CITY of Abeokuta. My friends wife claims heavy rains spoiled some transformers or something like that. When every Nigerian city was celebrating on October 1st Abeokuta was in total darkness. I was so sad i had to get outta that hell hole. As we were driving back home to PHC I asked my army friend, why were you complaining about Amechi of Rivers State if your own state is this poor and under developed? I reminded him in PHC almost every single road has been repaired or still under construction.

When you visit PHC at least you will see signs that there is a governor there, I am not from Rivers pls, Rivers has the best primary/secondary schools in NIgeria. My sisters children are schooling in PHC for free. All the primary/secondary schools in the entire rivers state is world class and better and more equipped than some of Nigerian universities. I can post pics here for doubting ignorant foools, Each school here has brand new computer for each student, world class science labs, standard library, fully air conditioned, free books, free uniforms etc yet this yorobah army officer still talk shit about Amechi. Apart from Fashola can the entire yorobah nation boast any governor that can set/compete with Rotimi Amechi in anything? Amechi is building a world class city from scratch and that's where i built my house, go google GREATER PORT HARCOURT MEGA CITY (http://www.gphcity.com/). Amechi is building world class hospitals the one i can remember which is close to my house is one (http://www.clinoriv.com/home.htm), the games village/stadium Amechi just built is second to none in Nigeria. Amechi is building RIVERS STATE UNIVERSITY which is going to be the best and most equipped university in West Africa when he finishes. Judging from what Amaechi has done with Rivers state primary schools, I am just imagining what this university will look like.  Amechi is building new power plants that will give the entire state uninterrupted power supply from next year. Amechi is building a standard light rail and the list is endless. Pls these yorobah people make una take am easy small, to these ACN fools the only party in Nigeria is ACN, the only true tribe in Nigeria is yorobah, everyone else is stupid.

Finally, I do not envy Lagos even if it has the tallest buildings on earth, but pls admit that these buildings belong to people from outside yorobah. Over 60% of all projects including buildings in Lagos belong to none yorobah especially the Igbos. Also, having tall buildings in your city will not put food at your table at all. Go to Igbo cities like Nnewi for instance, you will see Igbo technicians and school drop outs building and manufacturing things that yorobah professors can only dream of. Once you get there you will see small Igbo boys manufacturing motor spare parts etc, and Innoson is building his car from that city as well.

The spokesman of the family, Mr Kunle Ishola, in a letter written to Alhaji Fatai Ibikunle, Special Adviser (Political) to the state governor, a copy of which was made available to the Nigerian Tribune, called the bluff of the state government on the matter and warned it against unwarranted publicity on it.

The family, which poised for war against the state government's claim that it requested for the sum of N25 million and same was approved, frowned on the development and appealed to the government not to politicise Ishola's burial.

"We take serious exception to the statement that our family requested for the sum of N25 million from the state government and same was approved as requested by us.

"No such request was ever made, but, rather, the state government resolved by itself to offer the said sum as its contribution to the burial ceremony, after the family had completed arrangements for a befitting burial for our late father," the statement read, adding that "we have resolved not to accede to the request to use Lekan Salami Stadium for the interdenominational service, but Liberty Stadium as originally intended on October 7, 2011 and hereby reject the offer of N25 million made to us as the government's contribution to the burial."

Meanwhile, in a reaction, the Oyo State government said it was unfortunate that its gesture, which is in conformity with civilised practice all over the world, would be misconstrued by the Kolapo Ishola family.

According to a release issued by the Senior Special Assistant on Public Communications, to the Governor, Dr Festus Adedayo, the government said its offer to participate in the burial of the former governor was borne out of respect for him and its appreciation of his contributions to the state.

The statement said upon the death of the former governor, his family formally informed the government and the governor constituted a committee to give him a befitting burial.

According to Adedayo, the committee met with another committee of Ishola's family and they both deliberated on the budget of N58 million brought by the family. The government thus offered to contribute the sum of N25 million, paid directly to the Ishola family and another N5 million for logistics and contingency of the burial like printing of invitation, posters and protocol.

The statement added that with the development, the governor had no choice but to accede to the request.

However, the immediate past governor of the state, Chief Adebayo Alao-Akala, speaking through his media aide, Mr Dotun Oyelade, said the government sought to portray the revered family as beggars, by issuing false statement to gain political advantage.

He said the N25 million was a gratuitous Greek gift, while he described its rejection as the most honourable step under the circumstance.

The statement recalled that when a former deputy governor of the state, Chief David Adeniran Abinusawa, died on January 18, 2011, the government under Chief Alao-Akala, decently honoured him by quietly releasing state's fund to his family for the burial arrangement without publicity. "But what we have today is a wide range of orchestrated publicity, even before the release of fund."

After the triumph on Sunday, the team did not return to Owerri immediately as was expected by their anxious fans back home. Imo state governor, Owelle Rochas Okorocha had ordered them to stay back in Lagos for a special flight which was eventually arranged for Tuesday, September 27. When the Arik Air plane that flew them to Owerri touched down at the Sam Mbakwe International Cargo Airport at 8.45 am, a large crowd including the state governor, was on hand to welcome them.

The state government through the commissioner for sports, Ken Emelu declared "a girls-free-night" for Heartland players "for making the state proud." This was greeted with a rapturous applause by the thousands that gathered at the airport. Emelu said to the players. "there is no law preventing you from frolicking tonight as you have brought glory to Imo State. Go and enjoy yourselves." He added that a lot of goodies awaited them from the government.

General manager of the club, Fan Ndubuoke thanked the state governor for his support to the team and pleaded with him to attend the team's matches in future.

Meanwhile, Speaker of the Imo State House of Assembly, Honourable Ben Uwajimogu who was also at the airport announced a N1million donation to the victorious Heartland players and their officials.

The players and officials were driven round the major streets of Owerri in a motorcade which included the state governor, Owelle Rochas Okorocha who was marking his 100 days in office.

The governor waved to ecstatic fans who lined up the streets, saying Heartland's victory was a sign of greater things to come from his government, adding that the team would soon embark on a foreign training tour. The victory tour terminated at the government house for a formal reception by the governor,

Airtel is an Indian company, Bharti Airtel. Those who hated Indians should've opted to stay away from it. How do you explain people working there even when they have so many issues? Simple - none of their Nigerian counterparts are willing to hire them. If they are in Nigeria and have survived, they might as well run the company according to their wish. Why don't those hurling abuses at foreign investors imagine a Nigeria without any foreign investors, Europeans, Americans, Lebanese, South Africans, Koreans, Chinese, Indians and other minorities. What if these countries were to take back their businesses and nationals and then send back all the Nigerians in their countries for good. Do you think Nigerian entrepreneurs/politicians can provide 100% employment to itz citizens ? Do you think these Ogas will all be compassionate philanthropists who will turn your life into a bed of roses overnight ? SMH !

All the same, I have to agree Indians are really stingy and can be irritating to the hilt  lipsrsealed
I WELCOME FOREIGN INVESTORS WITH OPEN ARMS. EVERY COUNTRY OR ECONOMY NEEDS FOREIGN INVESTORS.
WE ARE LOOKING FOR WORLD CLASS FOREIGN INVESTORS THAT WILL OBEY OUR LABOR LAWS NOT DIRTY STREET URCHINS THAT WILL OVERWORK YOU AND UNDER PAY YOU,

Arrant nonsense! I read this news article over the weekend and I think the Ireland Embassy are just not honest or have apoor grasp of the migration dynamics of Nigerians pre and post recession.

Questions:
1.What opportunities remain for migrants in Ireland after the shameless collapse of thier construction industry which hitherto was the major employer of most migrants to that country? The number of previous and recent applicants, (11,000 vs 5,000) in the article would rather suggest Ireland is not seen by Nigerians as a destination of choice for whatever reason. Beside, historically do we really have anything significant to do with the Irish?

2.Is it more likely that the reduction in number of applicant is more likely to do with the fact that applicants are either confused about the new policy/process or that the applicants see the new process as a sign of the would be host country's hostile change of tune to immigrants? The UK is a case study to bear in mind. After introduction of biometrics in certain visas category, applications in Nigeria dropped albeit significantly only to spike up rather quickly and findings revealed really thier initials thoughts were all together wrong.

3. Is this not the same Ireland that is part of the league of five called "PIGS"? So how then would they not factor in the fact that thier weak and near collasped economy would mean less migrants wanting to come through thier doors than ever before?

Lastly, let them bring out the complete data set so we can examine it ourselves like we do with that of the UK. Tell us how many of the applicants applied under which category, students, visitors, work permit, etc.

By the way, I don't give a face to an Irish.
