bxboss: The military is economical with the truth, that is understandable though but we shouldn't blatantly deny the death of our soldiers. The video of BHT attack you watched was not that of Melete but zari did'nt you also watch the video a soldier posted claiming that over 100+ of their battalion have being wiped off after the unfortunate incident? The video didn't show bodies in the video the soldier posted so one has to ask whether he was exaggerating, unless of course he went about counting the bodies. Could well be some he thought killed were injured. If the Army is not believed anymore, maybe best to await the release of ISWAP video of the Metele attack. |

DDGN: Problem with this country. We see the truth right in front of our faces but keep living in denial. Some dig their head in the sand wishing the truth away. The senior Nigerian officer said several Cameroonian soldiers were killed and two were captured. On the Nigerian side, two soldiers and two civilians were killed and two soldiers and 11 civilians were wounded, he added.
"The Cameroonians have been pushed back away from the positions they previously occupied," the officer said. Nigerian troops seized heavy weapons and ammunition, including anti aircraft guns.https://www.irishtimes.com/news/nigeria-cameroon-clash-over-disputed-islands-1.28592What is truth? To the victor the spoils. |

[quote author=DDGN post=71940733]Typical nairaland comment. A rational mind will ask for promo or source, or go online and do some research. But no, you won't..anyone one who's views gone contrary to your is typing rubbish. You allow patriotic sentiments cloud your sense of judgement. To avoid been accused of cherry picking it didn't take me long to find a neutral source. NEW YORK TIMES Nigerian and Cameroonian forces fought all weekend and into this morning in the latest outbreak of violence over the small Bakassi peninsula, which lies between the two countries, officials at Nigerian Defense headquarters said today. The official said long range artillery, helicopter gunships had been used, and diplomats said more than 50 Nigerian soldiers have been killed and a number taking prisoner in the most recent fighting. No information was available on Cameroonian casualties. https://www.nytimes.com/1996/05/07/world/nigeria-and-cameroon-clash-over-peninsula-on-the-border.htmlIt should be noted that the helicopter gunships and long range artillery mentioned are likely from the Nigerian army as Cameroon neither operates helicopter gunships or have long range artillery system. Oga, even in that report it doesn't say there were no Cameroonian casualties. It said no information on Cameroonian casualties. Remember, Nigerian troops were attacking well entrenched Cameroonian soldiers so will take more casualties.
The Cameroonians couldn't have taken all that bombardment and been forced to withdraw without equally haven taken heavy casualties. They are also good at hiding details.

Henry240: It seems i was wrong on the JF-17 acquisition however based on widely available public comments, it did not seem like the NAF was still interested in the aircraft.
That being said, i still wonder the reason for the delay?
It is still my opinion that with the purchase of the Tucanos, the JF-17s are not the best fit for purpose aircraft for the Nigerian Air Force. I think I have mentioned it in the past. Priority is for the PAF and they are trying to ramp up the numbers and increase the number of squadrons. They also haven't got the capacity at the moment to churn out enough platforms yearly at the moment. This will probably change with more orders and/or when the PAF order has been fulfilled. This is my take on it. |

lionel4power: The problem I have with you is that you lack simple comprehension, coupled with your eagerness to always start a quarrel.
The discussion was 'what killed the pilot?"
I attributed it to either lack of proper training in ejection procedure.
or
the use of non -zero-zero ejection seat.
all of it is just pure conjecture, you could have provided a counter argument.
Which you're incapable of.
maybe I was expecting too much from you. Me, start a quarrel? Are you mixng me up with someone else? Comprehension? I already posted the reason given by the CAS who said it was head injuries sustained in the ejection process as a result of his helmet being dislodged, which can be for various reasons I.e. there may have been a fault with the helmet (every man made product does malfunction). Why should I provide a counter arguement when it has been stated? I don't think I am the one lacking understanding. |

lionel4power: I'm sure you're aware that part of the job of an ejection seat is to pierce the acrylic bubble canopy of the aircraft during ejection.
most aircraft canopy do not have ejection mechanism therefore the ejection seat would need to destroy it with the force of the rocket booster.
And yes, using improper ejection seat would have caused the pilot's death. or his helmet was not properly strapped on. (whose fault?)
anyway,
the pilot in picture 2 landed safely without serious harm even though his aircraft is practically immobile. The problem I have is you are speculating. Is there anything to suggest what you have stated above? The other 2 pilots ejected safely didn't they? Pilots eject around the world several times a year. Some make it virtually unscathed, others are injured to varying degrees and some die. It doesn't mean there was something wrong with the ejection seat (although there have been malfunctions in the past) or the pilot wasn't trained in the ejection sequence (one of the first things you learn in ground school). Why on earth would the NAF install an improper ejection seat? |
Foreign Affairs › Re: Battle Field Discussion (picture/video) Of African Military . by rka2: 8:45am On Oct 01, 2018 |
lionel4power: @odunayaw
the first thing they teach you in flight school is never eject upside down.. or in any position other than straight.
when ejecting, you put your arms and legs deep inside the "protective" cover of the 0-0 ejection seat.
0-0 ejection seats have sufficient rocket booster to thrust the pilot in a safe enough distance vertically from the ground before the parachute is deployed. That's why it's called "zero-zero".
the only fathomable reason a pilot will eject in the wrong orientation is if he is losing consciousness or vertigo induced blackout (or redout) as the case maybe.
however, such incidents are rare and are usually prevented by the use of modern pilot G-suits.
----- in the Nigerian F-7Ni case, I'll attribute the pilot's death to lack of proper training in ejection procedure or the use of non-modern ejection seat. [ Haba! The pilot died because his helmet dislodged during the ejection process and he suffered head injuries. https://www.dailytrust.com.ng/buhari-visits-pilots-injured-in-plane-crash.html |

SLBM: CNS Bakassi is armed with Exocet missiles and 40mm cannon. Yes Nigerian patrol crafts come with 72 mm heavy pounder, but they simply lack missile attack capabilities.
Cameroons Bizerte (P48 large patrol craft) class L'Audacieux is fitted with SS-12M missile and an inordinate amount of anti-aircraft cannons. Some ships carry as much as four.
Cameroons Alpha jet can carry the Exocet anti'ship missile. Where are the exocet launchers or any other launchers for that matter? That is a French Alpha jet.

SLBM: Oh plzzzxxx
The Super Tucano won't 've delivered until 2022 The Mi-35 is a rotary winged tactical aircraft for ground attack. Super Mushank...we keep training pilots to fly non existent aircraft. JF-17..like you said UNKNOWN. CH-3A. Excellent Locally made UAVs is nothing special. High school students build even better UAVs.
The Nigerian Air Force in its entirety is near extinct. VIP light helicopters, locally mAde drones does not alter the reality on ground. This country has been in perpetual conflict for a decade because Boko Haram caught the military offguard. No body ever imagined Nigetia will find itself battling urban guerrilla warfare...well here we are, Because we were ill equipped its taking this long to try replacing old weapons.
Like in the past people refuse to believe Nigeria will ever find itsel in a position whereby its forced to defend the nation's airspace and critical infrastructure. Nigeria had 6 fighter jets and to you its enough. After all we are not at war. When that " it will never happen here " syndrom finally catches up with you, you begin to run to the international market looking for weapons to buy. I find it appalling that any Nigerian will see investing in modern aircraft and air defense as wasteful luxury. It shows Nigeria as a society is still primitive and backward. This primitive mindset is what allows our current crop of recycled leaders to drag the country backward while other countries advance. Countries at peace are equipping their armed forces with modern weapons systems and I proved training. While Nigeria, a nation at war sees spending money on modern platforms as waste of resources, what an irony. I am frankly disgusted. Bro, Tucano is being delivered from 2020. The CAS has even asked them to expedite the first two. |

jakeporeshenko: So basically GSL the Indian shipyard was the lowest bidder (Cheapest price to fabricate both vessels), that next phase is for the baby to evaluate their facility and determine wether or not GSL would be able to build the boats, that’s why the CNS visited the shipyard.
According go both parties the visit was a huge success so the next step is to award the contract with 15% payment upfront. Looks promising. Hope it Is followed through, thanks again. |
