Roads :drivers and their way of driving) Banking halls: Jumping ques, calling staffs they know to attend to them when obviously it is not their turn. Airports: Bringing everyone from the family and friends to crowd departure lounge, noise making etc Bus stops: Pushing and shoving to get on buses with regard for elderly people, physically disadvantage people or school kidds (Lagos is notorious of this) Public toilet use: Can't even talk about this. Political office holders: We all know, all these corruption is reflection of lack of civilization The most uncivilized place (in terms of peoples behaviour) in Nigeria goes to Lagos. Where is everyone rushing to? |
If she is not a science student in the first place, how is she going to study medicine or engineering? The moment you are in art class in the secondary school, and you are good, law seems to be their most preferred course |
If Benfica continues with this positive and brilliant soccer they are playing right now, I see them winning at the end of 90mins and hoing through |
Well said pro01: They are ostensibly more religious for several reasons. Women love quick solutions to complex and not-so-complex problems, and since they're not particularly fond of thinking, planning or working their way through their (often self-inflicted) woes, they settle for the easier and more 'magical' option of religiosity. They always want the God that answereth by fire to answer to their every self-centred whim. |
DonPRESEGS: I will build Hostel and ICT and youth empowerment base in UNIOSUN Main Campus Osogbo communityThis is one very smart investment if you have money. Last year I visited that campus and realised whoever builds something like yours would make a killing |
RMAN, the answer to your question lies in a proper segmentation of the market. The majority of mtn subscribers are on the network for voice traffic; therefore their improved coverage is the most important factor for their subs. It makes sense. Thanks bro. We are all here learn a few things. |
Oga, I am not here to defend MTN, and your claim about me working for MTN is far from the truth I am just curious and still would love to know how a fraudulent company, that is hated by all just happened to continue to grow year in year out and tge people patronizing them have used all the excuses you can ever think of to stick with these company. It is strange psychology that I find hard to understand. I just tried have balanced opinion of tgings. What is MTN's secret is what I would love to know? Because obviously, number portability won't put them out of business because a lot of Nigerians already claim they don't use MTN. If you can provided answers to some of my questions, I would be glad. Thanks. pro01: I see rman has been making unsuccessful efforts t.o convince us about how 'unfair' the criticisms against MTN are, and how great the network is. Obviously, he is NOT a neutral party; probably works for MTN or feeds off MTN in some way. That effectively shatters the credibility or integrity of anything you say in defence of MTN. |
Image123: NITEL/MTEL belong to the government, that's a significant recipe for failure. The point i'm making by saying MTN got here first is wrt their current competitors airtel, etisalat and glo. Many across nigeria already had mTN simcards before they ever heard those names. MTN has ,unfortunately i say, better network COVERAGE. What this means is that you'd think 4times before dropping your MTN sim because most of your contacts already know it, and call/text you on it. Another thing is that, if you'd travel across country, your MTN sim would most probably get network, a position you can't count on for other networks. Another is that MTN understands human psychology and would not relent in bombarding you with adverts that they are the best. What other network spends more money on facelift adverts than MTN?But I noticed the sentiments in your post by claiming A BETTER COVERAGE BY MTN IN NIEGRIA IS UNFORTUNATE. Haba |

If a business sees the bigger picture and tries to cover the entire country and other see only the cities is that MTN's fault? It called a Nigerian network and not Lagos, Abuja and co only network. What you are saying invariably is overall, they have the best network. Coverage is part of the quality metrics |
I have been wondering for long never to find an answer to this. Could it be an Automotive anathema? Every car owner flaunt his or her car keys even if there are 50 keys on one holder, the car key Remains pointed at people during conversation. I noticed that not only in nigeria but even worse here in Ieland. Am not trying to be egotistic but i own an X6 with a beautiful remote key yet I always adumbrate my key when not in need of it. This morning morning a guy came to my office with a honda key in his hand talking and pointing at me, not knowing my car can buy 5 of his ivtec. Wat is the exact antecedent behind this?
Thank you for indirectly letting us know you are rich and drive a BMW X6. You post would have made a little sense if you did not bring your car and running down HONDA product into it. You just need your ego massaged online, so you must have a very low self esteem in real life even if it is true you are rich. |
zaibatsu: @rman, Nicely balanced responses there. No operator will offer you unlimited downloads. One of the major reason magic number failed is this. The traffic on their network then is so much that NCC has to compel then to stop it due to congestion. Nigerians do not understand fair useage because even if they give unlimited download for two hours, they will want to download a complete season of ''LOST'', 24 and co within that limited time. ![]() zaibatsu: @rman, Nicely balanced responses there. No operator will offer you unlimited downloads. Image123: MTN's edge is that they were the first to get off the tracks. They've been around before the rest. And unfortunately, i should say they have better network COVERAGE than others. Nigeria is not only Lagos na. Simple Ogun state, trekKing distance from Lagos, other networks start fluctuating. Most of the other networks woo their customers with freebies, almost meaning that those customers cannot drop big money. MTN has customers who are ready to drop big money, not just recharge for mb.First to get off the track is not really an advantage in a technology driven enviroment. Mind you, we all forget the fact that 11 years ago when MTN started, MTEL and ECONET took off almost at the same time and MTEL already has the infrastructure on groung. NITEL base stations and switches are in place before MTN came. How come NITEL and MTEL could not survive in a market that MTN is making a killing? How come a company that was built from scratch was able to dominate NITEL/MTEL that has infrastructure on ground to the extent that MTEL is completely out of the picture? |
I'm going to say this again. There is no such thing as unlimited speed, no where in the world does it exist.
Thank you. But Nigerians want to believe it exists, because to them, everything must be free |
Kolababa: What MTN is charging in Nigeria is far higher than what they charge in South Africa and our government is not fighting this because MTN settle them regularly. Instead they are fighting BA and Virgin Atlantic for paying thousands of dollars to fly and to show ego and class. The business environment is completely different so prices can not be the same. Most base stations are are being run on generators 24/7 while South Africa has uninterupted power supply. A very large part of their operating cost here goes to diesel supply for these generators. If MTN settles our government to continue unethical operation like you claimed, GLO, ETISALAT AND CO would have shouted. Unless they are all doing it which will make it difficult for the government to single MTN out. And concerning the BA and Virgin issue, our government has got it all wrong. They are fighting for cheaper prices for first class and business class cabins not the economy class. I hope you know there is no price decripancy between Nigeria's econnomy class fare and Ghana's ( The country we are using as example in this case) BA is simply using the law of demand and supply on Nigerians. If we are trying to flaunt money by rushing first class and economy class tickets and Ghanians don't, then don't blame BA or Virgin for charging Nigerians more these class of tickets. What I expect a reasonably government to do, is to patronize the competition (ARIK) more, create competion on the same route with AIRNIGERIA, or stop flying first class and business class if they feel it is too expensive and prices will naturally come down. DO NOT BE DECIEVED, OUR GOVERNMENT IS NOT FIGHTING FOR YOU AND I(Ordinary people). They are just trying to score cheap political points and it is working on you. |
amosy007: ok why was it hard for mtn network to stop free browsing then? and why is it easy for them to stop it now?... I remembered i used a single cheat for abt one and half yr straight and mtn was aware of it coz it was all over the internet yet they didnt do anytin to it.. Does that mean they didnt have a way of stopping it after a week or they are not aware? They are but left it so more people can join the stupid network.... Today how many active mtn subscribers do we have? I remembered then i had more than 6 mtn sims and friends that have more than that ... Now i dnt even know where kept them .. again ! Let them block inactive subscribers or unregistered ones and see if they still have what they claimed to haveI still dont get your point. You claim you and your friends no longer use mtn and still argue that you contribute to their revenue. You are good as blocked already because you claim you are a passive subscriber. The business may look like a game of numbers to you but it is actulally a game of money. If MTN has so many in active subscribers like you claim, then who are the people responsible for the over 400Billion naira they decalred in 2010 as profits? If a netwrok has 10million subscribers and only 2million are active and another has 5million subscribers with 4million active, I want to believe you understand the one with 4 million active subscribers will generate more revenue. How come GLO which is a distant second to MTN is only doing 30% of what MTN is doing in the same country. Since, based on your claims, MTN subscribers are passive. |
Ope ooooo!!!!!! Milan scores!!!! |
HQ: Actually, when I came into Nigeria a couple of Months Back, Almost all of my subscriptions were time-based (2H, 20H, 100H) because I certainly didn't like the restrictions of the Volume Based plans (makes me always check the stats tab to make sure I'm not close to the limit).Thank you for bringing in logic. Nairaland is full of people in auto response mood. Some don't even digest the information and some actually base their response on what majority are saying. Just my thoughts |
pro01: This is a very important question. I can understand the reason for DSTV's continued dominance - afterall, there are no better alternatives. But in the case of MTN, there are alternatives. So I don't understand why or how it continues to be the market leader with the highest number of subscribers - in spite of the unrelenting outcry against it's poor services and exploitative tendencies. This is very intriguing indeed! The term customers are always right may not really apply to Nigerians. Why? Because they always approach issues with sentiments. The major reason why MTN is still growing is because they actually have the best network in Nigeria. The day the other operators can deliver a bigger coverage with better performance to people is the day MTN will start shrinking. Most of the people here are probably kids looking for freebies on gsm network. Etisalat grew fast because they came with a good business strategy and targeted these youths. |
callydon: Dat people are still on d Mtn network doesn't mean they are d best. It jst means dat mtn WAS able to DECEIVE people into buying their lines back then wen people didn't knw d difference between a gud network n a bad one.Let us assume it is true MTN is fraudulent, why is it that educated Nigerians (I assumed people that knows how to use the internet are), find it hard to leave their network. By the time Etisalat came and before sim registration, a sim card is as cheap as 150 naira. So the cost of joining a new network is not the issue. The competition in the GSM industry is so fierce that it is the only one that prices keep coming down even when their is no apparent drop in cost of operation in the business environment (Nigeria) or the technology is becoming cheaper (most are going for chinese equipments recently). I keep will continue to ask why MTN is still succesful in Nigeria because they seem to be defying some kind of business logic based on nairaland. |
bigiyaro: MTN is full of crap, perhaps @rman u should check d diffrence btwn subscribers n ACTIVE SUBSCRIBERS. i have a unique mtn number which i have not recharged for years (becos mtn are coprate armed robbers) ,i only recive calls with it.when the portable mobile number stuff becomes active in june then we shall see who the real ACTIVE market leader is. U should ask urself why everybody hate mtn.the voice of the people is the voice of GOD.THE VOICE OF LOGICAL REASONING AND FAIRNESS IS THE VOICE OF GOD. NOT VOICE OF SENTIMENTS! |

U should ask urself why everybody hate mtn.the voice of the people is the voice of GOD.Yes, there is a big difference between, ordinary subscribers and active subcribers but based on your claim, you are already a passive subscriber like most nairalander. So, when number portability comes later this year, sims like yours will necessary not affect their bussiness. Why? You may ask. YOU NO LONGER USE MTN EVEN BEFORE NUMBER PORTABILITY |
ziccoit: Let the NCC enable number portability and MTN would be an history except the company repents and listen to its teaming customers.Do you know what I think will happen when number portability starts? MTN subscribers will still continue to grow. I have come to understand the online hatred for MTN, Nigerians love freebies and MTN's strategy is not about giving out freebies. I know how the telecoms industry in Nigeria is, and NCC is constantly monitoring the activities of all the operators and international KPIs is used as bench mark to monitor all of them. In most cases when these field tests are carried out in major cities in Nigeria, most of them dont really meet these KPI' but MTN is always coming tops generally. So, they actually have the best 2G and 3G network in Nigeria. |
amosy007: mtn didnt just make dat heavy subscribers base becoz they are people or customer friendly buh thru illegal means of marketing... I remembered mtn was the only network that had free browsing cheat rolled out before back in the days, etisalat into the scene...i remembered i was a die hard vmobile fan then buh was gradually switching to mtn just becoz i cn browse d internet free illegal though.. I have so many friends that changed to mtn coz of the free browsing.. Then other networks are forming stingy with deir data while mtn kept wining more customers thru dis means... ... Another question why is etisalat becoming d fastest growing network nigeria today? Is it becoz their voice plan is cheap or what? O boy shine ur eye... Mtn is a scam and they have illegal way of wining customers... Remember magic number? Do u knw how many joined mtn coz of dat?Based on your post above, you admitted browsing for free on a netwrok without paying and still called them a scam when it was stopped? NIGERINAS!!! Any form of free browsing on any gsm netwrok is been done by crooks and the operators are constantly working round the clock to ensure this does not happen. Now people like you will congest their netwrok with your free browsing while the paying customers compalin of slow speed and poor services. MTN will never use your free browsing strategy to win customers. For a guy that claim to be smart, how come you and your friends find it hard to dupm them when the free browsing was stopped. A sim and a modem would cost you not more than 6000 naira for any other operator. Talk true, you got stuck because they offer the best services in your area. |
rman: Apparaently, everyone hates MTN in Nigeria but the realty on ground is they are the market leader and are still growing. In fact they added more than a million subscribers last year which is second only to Etisalat. Everytime I see threads about MTN and DSTV on nairaland, it is all hate, hate and hate from forum members. Unless nairaland is not a partial reflection of the Nigerian reality, and if it is, WHO ARE THOSE ON MTN NIGERIA'S NETWORK?In addition, MTN subscriber base is more than 40mill, which is around 50% of the entire market share. Am still interested in the people on their network in Nigeria, because based on the reponse from nairalands forum members, they should be out of bussiness. |

I can relate with your story bro. I have dated someone with exactly the same attidue like the girl in your story
Simple. . . Most girls are confused as to what they really want. I am a good guy by many standards, never cheated or double dated at anytime in my entire life. I know what I want and I stick with what I've got. I dated a girl who was 23 at the time but had experience that would make a 40year old married womans jaw drop. Kudos to the girl in question for telling me about her past and all (i guess she wanted me to hear it from her before I heard it outside). I pushed on dating her. Infact, the fact she told me herself even endeared me more towards her and gave me a new perspective on the respect I had for her. I tought she was mature. I thought wrong cos that was the best thing I remember about her. She was juvenile in everything she did. Wanted the best things of life but didnt want to work for it. That was the begining of the end for us. I saw no drive. Infact, I almost started being like her. All she was interested in was being on the social circle. She knew where and who sold the latest designer outfits and assesories but never had the money to buy these things. She was a professional begger. Like One day she has 20,000 credit on her phone and is like my friend that works at XXXX just bought it for me when I went visiting. Tomorrow, she comes home with new sets of Bags and shoes and says I picked them from a friend who just returned from wherever on credit. . . At some point, her culmulative debt was up to 400,000 in total. And what I realized was that because she had so many desiner things, she needed to attend social events to flaunt them in. I mean, she attends any and any thing. Birthdays, weddings, child dedications, Bar mitvah. In all the period we dated (almost 1 year), I cant ever remember one solid progressive advice she ever gave me. I dont remember her ever talking about improving herself (just graduated and not served). All she wanted was fast money, fast cars. I on the other hand just couldnt. Im not against partying as I do party on occasions myself, neither against wearing designer labels as I have a shitload of genuine (not knock-offs) labels, but the difference is I can afford my shi't. I pay for my stuff. No credit, I have a 9 - 5 job but still do other side businesses to augument my income, I am not lazy and dont borrow unless extremely necessary. I really loved her and was considering a relationship with her, but I just couldnt imagine her being the mother of my kids and keeper of my home. .
|
iluvnaija: I need help! Can somebody school me on how to protest a JAMB result? It is a rare occurrence but VERY POSSIBLE |
.......OYES has failed because he has no plan for the graduates employed through the scheme and even compelled the few sent to classrooms to wear the OYES regalia to class so they can be identified. I feel that is too political. The serious ones have abandoned the scheme and typical to other governments before him, he has turned NTA Osogbo and the media houses into is praise singing outlets. Reasonable people from the state have already accepted he is a mistake. Unless he does something drastic in reality that can truly transform the state before his tenure expires, I feel Aregbe has got it all wrong. |
