The Bank of Ghana has dismissed reports that it has banned the opening of dollar accounts.

In a public notice, the Central Bank said it has not issued any directive to local banks in this regard.

Media reports had indicated that the Central Bank in a desperate measure to prevent the cedi from further depreciating halted local banks from opening dollar accounts for customers without written express permission.

The reports further said the move, however, was not part of the measures the Central Bank is taking to arrest the free fall of the cedi.

But the regulator of the banking industry has described the reports as false and therefore customers must disregard them.

The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, (EFCC) has set out a motion that prosecutes landlords on account that they lease or rent out apartments to internet fraudsters commonly known as Yahoo Boys.

The EFCC stated that homeowners found guilty of housing Yahoo Boys would spend 15 years in prison.

The anti-graft agency made this known via its official Instagram page while calling on members of the public to attend a town hall meeting themed; “Landlord: Give Your House to Yahoo Boys, Spend 15 Years in Jail” to hold on June 29, 2022.

The Nigeria Immigration Service (NIS) has clarified the real age of Nwamini David Ukpo, the “kidney donor” at the centre of the alleged transplant saga involving former Deputy Senate President, Ike Ekweremadu and his wife, Beatrice.

Speaking with newsmen on Sunday, June 26, the Comptroller General of NIS, Isah Idris, said Ukpo is actually 21 years and not 15 as reported.

According to him, “The facts of the matter are that the said Mr. David Ukpo Nwamina applied and paid for the enhanced standard passport using the NIS portal after which he approached the Gwagwalada Passport Office, FCT Abuja, on the 2nd November, 2021 for his interview.

To support his application, Mr. Nwamina presented all the necessary documents required, including his National Population Commission (NPC) issued Birth Certificate, showing 12 October, 2000, as his date of birth; his National Identity Number (NIN) corroborating the date of birth on his birth certificate, issued by NIMC; a letter of introduction issued by Ebonyi State Government Liaison Office situated at Maitama District Abuja, and a Guarantor’s form duly signed by one Mr. Uchechukwu Chukwuma Ogbonno.

The Nigerian Immigration service relies on information and documentation from other government agencies as the National Population Commission, NPC, and the National Identification Management Commission, NIMC.”

Dapo Abiodun has responded to the dressing-down by Bola Tinubu, presidential hopeful of the All Progressives Congress (APC), that he would not have become governor of Ogun without his help.

Speaking at a meeting with delegates of the APC in Abeokuta on Thursday, Tinubu had said without his support, Abiodun would not have become governor.

“That one (referring to Abiodun) that is sitting down here, could he have become governor without me? We were all in the stadium where they tore all the posters. Even the candidacy of the party, they didn’t want to give it to him,” the APC chieftain said in Yoruba.

“It’s been over 25 years that I have been serving them. This one sitting at my back, Dapo, could he have become a governor if not for me.”

But responding to Tinubu on Friday, Abiodun said he is not an emperor and the position he holds is not a family inheritance.

The governor said he will not abandon the promise he made to the people of the state, adding that he will continue to be fair and just in his dealings.

“I am not an emperor by any chance and this is not my family inheritance,” he said.

“I am holding this position in trust for all the people of this state and I have vowed to be fair, just and equitable and this is the solemn agreement I made between the Almighty God and myself.”

The planned nationwide industrial action by associations and unions in the aviation industry was suspended on Tuesday morning February 8, following the signing of a fresh Memorandum of Settlement (MoS) with the federal government.

The MoS was signed at a meeting held at the headquarters of the Federal Ministry of Labour and Employment. The meeting started at about 6pm on Monday and ended on Tuesday Morning.


Some of the issues discussed include non-implementation of the Minimum Wage consequential adjustment in the Aviation Parastatals since 2019 and the non-approval/release of the reviewed conditions of service in the parastatals.

The Minister of Labour and Employment, Chris Ngige who addressed newsmen after the meeting, said after exhaustive deliberations on the issues which the parties agreed as germane, they resolved that;

“The National Salaries, Incomes and Wages Commission (NSIWC), was requested to issue a service-wide circular informing all organisations in the public and private sectors that they are bound to implement the National Minimum Wage of 2019/consequential adjustments.

“The Ministry of Aviation is to circulate the circular on the consequential minimum wage adjustment to all the agencies under the supervision of the ministry, requesting them to implement the National Minimum Wage consequential adjustment without any further delay and also clarify that this payment became effective from April 18, 2019, when the Minimum Wage was signed into law.”

According to report shows that Ngige also said that those who had exited the system during the period from April 18, 2019, to date, would also be paid the arrears.

He added;

“The meeting noted that some categories of workers in the Aviation Sector attract some peculiar allowances, which are not extended to others and stated that those salary structures that are not captured in the Memorandum of Terms of Settlement signed and dated 9th, 14th, 15th 16th, 17th and 18th October 2019 between the Federal Government and organised labour on the consequential adjustment of the other wages, would attract consequential adjustment as agreed during the negotiations of the Federal Government with the labour centres-The Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC) and the Trade Union Congress of Nigeria in October 2019.”

The Minister who disclosed that they agreed that all the agencies that had not paid the minimum wage allowances should write to the NSIWC through the Ministry of Aviation for consideration/evaluation, added that NSIWC promised to process all as soon as possible and consequently, the parties agreed that the consequential adjustment of the New Minimum Wage of 2019 based on the approved government templates should be implemented on or before the end of the first quarter of the year 2022 (March 31, 2022).

Hence, the NSIWC is to release this approved CoS immediately.

“The meeting agreed that the financial aspect of NAMA and NCAA would be resolved by the PCS by the third week of February 2022.

“The meeting was also informed that the CoS for Federal Airport Authority of Nigeria (FAAN) has been released since 2019.

“There are however establishment issues which have been observed and will be forwarded to the Federal Ministry of Aviation by the Management of FAAN for transmission to the OHCSF for urgent action.”

Nwosu, the son-in-law of former Imo governor, Rochas Okorocha, was whisked away by security operatives from a church service at his home town, Eziama Obieri.

“I have never heard of an arrest in a mosque. Police shooting in a church during a post burial service of his mum?” Nonso wrote.

“This is really sad. What’s the difference between security operatives and unknown gunmen? Why the hell is this country upside down.” she added.
