Temmie10: i am loving this thread these days, with attacks and counters mentors and proteges, Let all the number crunchers keep crunching, thats their proven method and they deserve the repect. Also let all the prophets prophesy, they deserve their fair share of respect, In many ways it helps to have all these differing views about the market, thats why there is a market after all, anytime u sell, someone is buying, anytime u buy, someone is selling, If we all thought a stock was good, no one would be selling and the stock would never be available to buy. Keep the views coming, i have always said that in this market, the only way a man finds out if he is right or wrong is when he puts his money on the line. so all the fundamentalists, technicalists, traders, prophets, gurus, agents, apprentices, fathers, i salute. noticed you didnt include the suicide bombers sorry i meant to say momentum traders in your list i'm sure we can all have a laugh |

pumping777: Zenith Bank.
However, I look at this, it is going to be a money spinner at current prices by either buying from the floor or the PO.
After making privision for possible 25% oversubscription from the coming PO, the projected adjusted PE for Zenith is 22.6 based on the TS price and current earnings. Only UBN and WEMA have lower numbers at the moment.
If the PAT forecast for the current fiscal year in the prospectus is even greater than N32B and is reasonable, this is going to be a very hot stock even in the short run. Which means the post TS bull run should be solid well well what can i say? |

FatherOF2: @ ALL MY OFFSHORE NAIRALANDERS,
I keep seeing jaw breaking number crunching flying across the screen. Why don't you translate your number crunching into something more tangible for the numerous not too discerning investors that watch you daily.BECOME REAL TEACHERS. We keep seeing scenerios like " Mr. X how many shares do you have outstanding for Company J.Mr. Y replies 600bn. Mr. X says " Oh sorry my mistake".My Z now adds his own 5bn too. Many investors on this thread have one question ".HOW DOES THIS TRANSLATE TO PROFIT FOR ME.?, ". Translate your figures to Buy and Sell decisions. Period. I didnt hear anybody complaining though so not sure what you are on about |

pumping777: I think easimoni is correct. I messed up my original calculation somewhere.
NSE (I tend to use NSE figure if it is the highest) lists the number of shares for Intercontinental as 17,987,322,448 and this will not include preferential shares that have not been listed. If you add the supplementary listing it comes to 18.55B. Alright then |
Investment › Re: Stock Market Tips For Nigerians by RoughCut(m): 3:47pm On Nov 27, 2007 |
easimoni: @ Pumping, I have 18.55B shares. IT's a mess with the multiple listings. Wish they'd just list them all at once. I'm assuming you added the 1.5B convertible preference shares. As long as these preference shares have not been converted you will need to subtract these from the ordinary shares outstanding when calculating your EPS. Preference shares are treated differently from ordinary shares because they dont qualify for dividends due to ordinary share holders so i would make the outstanding shares 17B until i can confirm they have indeed been converted to ordinary shares |

If it is because of no BONUS, they would have known that UBA has the tradition of giving BONUS every other year, and since they gave last year, they shouldn't have expected BONUS this year. For me they are on the right path! Kudos UBA easimoni, Roughcut, what do you know about R T Briscoe and Air Services & Logistics? aktopgun: it was a reverse split of 4 for 1 unless i'm mistaken. so their shares outstanding has risen but need to search for the numbers again but i'm not at home yet will let u know once i have the figures again for sure That's what baffles me normally when you do a reverse split or share reconstruction so to speak the shares outstanding are reduced by a certain ratio and the price now increased by a factor of the ratio in which the share/stock was split. So the value of your holdings will be the same even though your holdings(# of stock you hold) is now decreased. So am i right in assuming that the share price must have fallen catastrophically from the newly adjusted price of N25 in mid-October to N11 now? the share holders must have had a terrible deal then Not sure what happened like i said and i hope my postulation above proves to be the contrary i would be interested in looking at the figures if you have them |

aktopgun: @roughcut u are right about the double top thing and it was beween 17th sep and 10th october but their share price was marked down for the split they did don't forget and fundamentally speaking it is a largely profitable company with room for growth and their own niche in the market (eastern nigeria i believe)
i thin they will do well medium and long term as long as profits improve nad remain good
thanks for the observation man So that's what happened yeah on the face of it they appear to be a profitable company so what's the story about the split? |

chei, e be like say this horse don bolt o!!
anyway its been profitable for the most part apart from their last result an is fundamentally sound
just asked my broker to chase both it and redstar express and he better catch both, if he knows whats good for him because i know where he lives I was actually on the trail of this stock a while ago and i think there was something i passed across to you regarding this sometime ago. The stock came from less than N5 at the beginning of the year and went up to N25 in Sept before settling at the present N11 not sure what happened there! If you look at the chart pattern between mid-September - mid October it did what i believe the tech analysts call 'double top' easimoni i dey wait for your new and improved spreadsheet which does not usually bode well for the stock price so i think i will leave well alone i may be wrong though |

aktopgun: I rest my case as stated, enough said
For 2008, me thinks C&I Leasing, Nig- german and REDstar are stocks to watch based on their numbers, sentiments and growth expectations
redstar did say they were going to do P.O soon after coming onto the market but i wonder if they'll just ride this bull run as far as they can go before goin on TS. IT WOULD DEFINITELY FAVOR THEM! it would appaer they arent just a one hit wonder or having beginners's luck because their performances have been consistent ie profits and they are as listed currently the only coy in their sector meaning they really have free reign and no competition, for now anyway. Agreed but i think NIG-GERMAN might have become expensive to enter now and i don't think there is a 'correction' imminent unless we can beg wanaj0 to sell to us at nairaland discount RedStar express has been paying dividends and showing consistent growth for the past 10-11 years hopefully they can ride the bullish sentiment a bit before going on TS. I have taken position issued a BUY order dead or alive so i don't want to be caught out by this TS business. There is also Trans-national express and MyPeace is a loyal employee or is it shareholder? of that company and we have been begging to sneak us in on the action at Trans-National |

wanaj0: See me defending Access when I am not even a shareholder. Well, share the LOOT with us OOO.
The patient dog eats the fattest bone. Can imagine how you felt when the price of Access was stagnant after the lifting of TS. Now you are having the feeling of De ja Vu Yeah i felt frustrated because i actually bought this stock shed loads of it back in '04 looks like i will sell about half and then decide what to do with the pile of cash i will be sitting on i'm still looking for what to do with the cash from WEMA The bulls are on the rampage on the NSE from what i have read on the sister thread but i will say this the liquidity that is fuelling demand and pushing up the stock prices will be re-directed to the primary market to take advantage of the rash of PO and IPO's on offer and for those coming on stream which will have the effect of mopping up 'excess' liquidity in the secondary market therefore things should settle down a bit on the secondary market so we bargain hunters can go hunting again(i'm buying RedStar Expresss now though) So end of year and 1Q next year should be interesting Secondly all manner of companies will be declaring FY results and a lot of peeps will be taking profit and with the festive season knocking therefore prices might be depressed a bit |

pumping777: Analyzing for speculators does not prevent objective analysis. I have no problem with your speculative analysis but it is not everyone here that is a speculative investor.
I do not have to praise an increase that is below my expectations. Like I said, the market may reactive positively, but we need to share anlaysis that will prevent us from herding with the sheep. Couldnt have put it better meself! I think you wanted to say herd mentality and like wanaj0 will always say investment based speculation without an objective and intellectual dissection is a sure-fire way of getting your fingers seriously burnt a bit stronger than wanaj0 would actually put it I think somebody said on another forum and i quote the market can remain irrational longer than you can remain solventNuff said |

pumping777: I think FCMB could have done better. Agreed that PAT has grown by 139% YOY but this has already been reflected in the current price. Though the market may react positively, I don't consider this result beyond expectation. In fact the projected adjusted PE still remains the same around 28 which is on the high end (I have factotored in possible 25% oversubscription).
Ekocorp's result is okay. Forward PE is now 17 which I think is currently the best in the sector at least for the companies I have data on which are all the main ones.
Red Star express is the bomb. Projected PE is 11.7 with earnings yield of almost 9%. I'm going out for this one. The PO will have a high risk of dilution because bonus shares may be declared and new shares may not qualify. I hope not though. In actual fact bank PHB is a better option than FCMB and the figures are more plausible than that of FCMB so will wait towards the end of TS on PHB the half-year will be DEC and the half-year results due around JAN/FEB next year next year so hopefully if expectations are met that should give the share price a leg up when the stock comes off TS |

wanaj0: I am not a short term player. FCMB is good but not that impressed with the balance sheet. Something does not add up.
Afrinvest to me is still one of the best out there. They are passing through a lot of changes and restructuring though. As a rule, copy someone (another account officer) in all your correspondence. If you don't get propmt attention, escalate. That business with CSL just put me off right away the MD's papa owns CSL so no surprises there and i think the projection for '08 PAT is optimistic the half-year PAT for '08 is N5.34B so where are they going to get the N5B to make up the N15B projected for full-year PAT? The fact of the matter is that FCMB is still a ~ N10B PAT bank so like the Dragons in Dragons Den anybody watching Dragons' Den? would say I'M OUT! |
