Cavenchy: The truth is, there are loads of opportunities in Nigeria but many people do not see it. This lady probably put her head down to understand what she was studying, shunned malpractice and developed pure innovation, don't be surprised if you find out her dissertation was related to what she is doing now. It didn't end at school, she developed the requisite skills to actualise her plans by going all out to source for funds and didn't keep her ideas secret like most Nigerians do (You can find them in Business section dropping phone numbers and emails when they should be open about what they do to get investors).
Another problem is corruption, a lot of people aren't trustworthy in Nigeria to do business with, you employ 100 people on such a project and a good number of them would always wanna take short cuts to help themselves out to the detriment of the business itself.
My advice to Nigerians, quit waiting for someone to give you a cash gift to start a business, its not gonna happen. Make your plans professional, get legal (intellectual property protection) and seek investment openly not cash gifts. People will invest when your plan is potent and you can back it up with research worthy proof. And you can only back it up if you work hard, learn and achieve the know-how required to run your intended business and package it your way (create your own innovation). Also, many entrepreneurs and investors want to help young people with employment but the corrupt bad eggs in the work pool give the rest less chances to get in. Nigerians need to spread massive awareness to curtail corruption in the workplace, its chasing away investors, not just foreign but Nigerian as well, you will be shocked to find out how many Nigerian billionaires invest in other countries, and the reason is simple, the workers in foreign countries are more honest and less corrupt in sabotaging the business for personal gain. No entrepreneur runs a business to lose. Avoiding incompetent and criminal-minded employees is one of the massive reasons some of the private companies/corporations still in Nigeria employ only on referral(otherwise known as connection).
Unemployment and Corruption(at all levels) would have been a thing of the past if Nigerian leaders only understood what a national database is for and how it can be applied to fight corruption. The most honest post on this thread. Let them take it or keep burying their heads in the sand waiting for manner to fall from heaven. I believe in starting with what you have, there are many opportunities around us. the problem is we have made the book our enemy we are too lazy to do little research and learn. |

GeneralShepherd: Don't be obnoxious! I have relatives that have been farming for decades in the village and still don't own a farm on acres of land. Without external funding this level of farming is impossible to attain? I'm just stating the fact, you have got to walk before you can run, you start small, you cannot go into large scale farming overnight. If you call that obnoxious then what can I say. I'm just tired of hearing one excuse after the other. |

Hi. Why don't you consider alternatives like engaging the services of accounting/bookkeeping outsourcing firms for your accounting functions at a moderate price. That is the trend in advanced countries and it will fit perfectly into your business needs. That way you will have access to a pool of knowledge in a professional firm at a very reasonable price.
Send me a mail on consultemploy@gmail.com for further discussions. I know, but I prefer to have an in-house accountant |
Travel › Re: 8 Disgusting Habits Displayed By Nigerians When They Return From Abroad by Rubyventures: 1:28pm On Jun 07, 2016 |
wristbangle: Some Nigerians, when they return from abroad often display some nasty and childish habits when they return home, and these silly and childish attitudes are enlisted below;
1. Unnecessary use of foreign accent to intimidate local people
When some Nigerians living abroad return home, they begin to use these foreign accents to create unwanted scenes. They do this to show people that they are not of the same class. A times when you tell them, you can't understand their statement, they will say "Are u deaf"? The ones that annoy me most are those based in cotonou, Ghana, Uganda, china forming British accent. Honestly these ones need serious psychiatric evaluation.
2. High level of Pride
Living abroad is not a guarantee that one will be richer than Dangote or Mike Adenuga so why the overbloated ego? Some will even make it look like they're doing you a favour talking to you. This is common with the ladies.
3. Unnecessary show off
I know of some Nigerians who have lived their whole life abroad and are still able to be casual. But for some, they will wear socks and jacket under the intense sun and will be screaming to people's hearing that they regret coming to Nigeria.
4. They condemn our local dish
When a friend of mine returned from Canada, he told me to take him to a restaurant because he went hungry and I was elated he still has passion for our local dish. I took him to one fascinating local restaurant at Ibadan. When they served us pounded yam/egusi soup complimented with all sorts of assorted bush meats. Instead of eating the meal, he walked out from the restaurant telling me he couldn't eat that shiiit . Honestly, I was embarrassed by his comment.
5. They demand for undue Respect
Some of them are so proud that they will give you this proud look because they feel you want to beg pounds or dollars from them. I really don't blame them, after all it is what they experience often when they visit home as friends, family and even enemies want to benefit from their pocket.
6. Hotel becomes their home
I know most of them prefer lodging in a hotel because they are scared of mosquito bite, non availability of light and other negative factors in their parents' house. Though I wouldn't call this a silly act but I feel staying in your parents' house especially when located in the village will attract more parental blessing.
7. They neglect their old friends
This is common to some abroad based Nigerians. They tend to ignore the friends they left in Nigeria because they feel they have climbed the ladder of greatness. Last year, a very good friend of mine arrived from the UK and what surprised me most was that he refused to come to my house after a week of arrival. I used my church mind to go to his place and he started acting like I came to beg for money. This silly attitude of common with some of them.
8. They condemn our culture and values
It's a pity that some Nigerians are so engrossed with the westerner culture that they view African culture as being fetish and archaic when they returned home. For them to prostrate for elders and even their parents is like displaying stupidity act. This is nothing but outright nonsense. @ OP I think you are mixing with the wrong people because most of the Nigerians I know when thy come back to Nigeria, they become very humble, don't mind getting their hands dirty, love village live and crave for Nigerian food. |
