In psychology of humans, when there is an interaction between 2 people and they want something from each other. If this 2 things they want are of the same type but yet are different, then one person either has to change their commitment or comply with the other person's wishes.

Commitment will most likely require persuasion.

Compliance will most likely require force and fear. She is already attempting this.

Otherwise the only other outcomes are either:

1) Full resistance from both parties

2) A compromise position for both parties

The second is not always possible on binary issues. This is a binary issue.

That is where power comes into play.

Who has the power (and is willing to use the power for his/her aims) is the person that is likely to come out on top.

The power each party will have in this situation will come from the following:

1) Who likes the other person more

2) Who wants to get married more

3) Who has more options in the short and long term

Someone with less power can still stick to their resistance position instead of changing it to compliance or commitment to fit with the other's approach, but they are likely to lose out the most. But some people are comfortable with kamikaze decision-making.

The other approach someone with less power can take is to get people with influencial powers on the more powerful party to influence the other party to comply/commit to the desire of the less powerful. E.g. speak to their relatives or mentors to change their position or force them to comply.

Just for the records, i do not see marriage as different from a boyfriend-girlfriend relationship. Marriage is actually the continuation of a boyfriend-girlfriend relationship after some traditional thing (be it church, mosque, court or traditional marriage) has been done. There is no physical, emotional, psychological difference afterwards.

What I see in it is two people protecting their best interest.

It is in his best interest to have only a traditional marriage. It is in her best interest to have a court marriage.

She is threatening, but at the end of the day, it is the person with the more bargaining power and will that can win/get their way.

To be frank, from the way you posed your question, I can read that you have positioned it to being an impossible case.

The impossibility is hedged on the argument "my parents and others told me this is not a time for love".

As much as we love and respect our parents, the fact they say something does not mean it is right.

In this case they are wrong and they might inadvertently create long term problems for you.

I used "might" because maybe you might end up having drank water from the fountain of youth and be effing stunning in your 30s. Who knows. grin

You putting love/dating/chasing on hold when you are at your peak is a risky approach.

Take this from Sagamite, ..................Sagababa, Sagamilo, Professor of Womantology aka Fokasibe professional (etc etc etc, abeg e too long), that most women reach their mating-attraction peak in their late teens to the 20s, while most men reach their peak from late 20s to late 30s. Trust me on that.

That said, note some Men do have artificial peaks in their teens and early 20s.

If you are not utilising your peak to maximise your returns that is like being Usain Bolt and saying you will not get into 100m racing until your 30s.

At best he would probably run 9.95s if he is lucky. Still fast, but not what he could potentially achieve.

That said, I emphasis "most", some men and women are still flipping hot outside this brackets, but they are few and far between. Some even achieve their peak outside this bracket.

If I was to choose, I would choose her now. She is at her peak.

1) Starting looking for a fit.

2) Start building a good reputation.

As for (2), let many men that meet you now know you as that lovely/perfect girl, so even if they don't date you now, if they see you in future, you have some [what I called in my PhD dissertation] "desire capital" stored up. Ensure majority of men you come across have a good impression of you in terms of, not only looks, but social skills and personality.

So even if you don't get any 'Mr Right' now, when you are in your 30s if you ever meet any man you have come across in your past, because of your personality, he would still be keen (if you still look good, even though not at your peak).

Imagine you have been arrogant, rude, mean and insulting when you were at your peak, would you expect those men now at their peak to elect to be with you?

My cousin's husband has been diagnosed with hiv. When I heard the news I put a call to her, asking her if she has it too but she said no. The man was first diagnosed +ve last november, after he became too weak and according to her, they took it as false because she was tested negative. March again this year, the man also tested positive but she negative. I then advised her to go for another test which she did few days ago and said it is negative. My question, is it possible for the man to have it and not pass it to her, or is she just lying in fear of stigmatization? She said she has stopped unprotected sex with him since last two months though, but how about other previous months they've been doing it raw. Doctors, experienced ones, please kindly say something. I'm really feeling bad

The reason Eagles' matches are rotated from one state to another ever since they stopped playing at National Stadium, Abuja and in particular Lagos is political and this isn't good as it has cost us in the past.

Enyeama should be aware of all these political moves by government and besides, other junior teams have played in the same stadium and yet we have had no issue. NFF would have tolerated this if the fear was expressed by our opponent and not the Eagles' captain.

Enyeama should also remember that Decree 101 has not been abolished which empowers government to dictate how football is organised in the country and whoever pays the piper, dictate the tune. Enyeama's outburst, though normal, put him in a wrong position with the government.

Above all, for our football to grow, government must hands off and all challenges would be solved easily.
