That's APC legacy especially in Lagos

I drove around obalende last week and l couldn't but shed tears for my dear state

It's like everybody and l mean everybody is now agbero or ticket collector

From grandfather to fathers to grandsons including women

It's a far cry from the Lagos we were raised in , in the 80s

Shomolu, Fadeyi, Mushin, Onipanu, lyana Oworo, Bariga, Ketu and Ebute meta are even worse

Agberoism seems to have become the ambition of an average drop out and it won't become a societal menace if government is not actively or subtly involved

Asking around, l was told these drop outs and miscreants are allocated hoods, tarmac and spots in strategic suburbs to collect levies and taxes as rewards for their political loyalty during election..

Politicians don't reward them with education to improve their lives or decent jobs to be useful but as ticket collectors while their own progenies study abroad and fill top vacancies in Alausa

Olorun a saanu wa
If only every Nairaland comment was as thoughtful and well thoughtout as yours. The rest of the comments seem to be from people who were raised in anger and hatred & either lack an education or fail to deploy it. Even things which can be analysed outside of key political figures become a Tinubu, Obi issue or even worse a ground for ethnic mudslinging.

Politics / Re: State Of Origin Requirement Should Be Abolished - Okey Bakassi by samsard(m): 8:00pm On Jul 16, 2023
2mch:

Nigeria is a group of nations within a boundary. Tribalism does not exist if you look at it properly. It’s normal for all nations, ethnic or otherwise to defend their interest or boundaries and history. It is this colonialist mindset to want to erase a peoples identity and pretend they are one. It has not even succeeded in the US. Not to talk of Nigeria. The problem in Nigeria is a lack of respect for others, their lands and their history by a particular set of people who know they are at a disadvantage with what their ancestors left them. Plus their culture of greed and covetousness makes them seek for sneaky ways to steal like what Okey is suggesting. They are the most clannish and tribal, which is the funny thing.
Funny enough when they talk about self-rule and independence some people will rain hell and hail in words. Almost every Nigerian is clannish and tribal. I don't care if they're from the tribe I suppose you are. I have met many from different backgrounds and the internet is rife with toxic comments from the south. And no, tribalism or racism is never a good thing. The fact that something is difficult to achieve does not make it a bad ideal. I believe humanity first should be the primary goal and not unhealthy tribal groupthink.
People can maintain some sense of identity and still be fair and humane. So no tribal identity should override my humanity. Plus, almost no human alive today can claim that his ancestors didn't intermix with different groups and form this identity we think is fixed in stone pure.
In my tribe, for example, some parts have part origin from neighboring ethnic groups yet we're considered one group.

Fiction. Middle class doesn't exist anymore in Nigeria
Inflation does not eliminate a middle class. If anything I know more middle class people now than when I was growing up. Things are expensive but there's a lot of middle class Nigerians.

I agree with you 100 percent It’s either you are rich Or you are poor In Nigeria of today God help us
Denying reality does not change facts. Even Americans are experiencing inflation but it doesn't eliminate their middle class. Things are harder for all but the richest, but some are still comfortable without being obscenely rich.

Rent : 1.5m (2 bed flat in a Middle class area)
Power : 300k
Petrol/Diesel (car, business home) :
Break down (petrol): Car -15k weekly = 780k
Home - 10k weekly = 520k
Businesses - 30k weekly
Total for petrol : 2.86m
Feeding : 1.825m at 5k daily
Miscellaneous : 1.5m
Village People problems : 1m

Total is 8.68m...

My conclusion. You cannot earn 500k and claim middle class anymore. You can't even save and this is for a single person.
You can cut your coat according to your size but you definitely can't claim middle class anymore
LMAO. What you enlisted is UPPER MIDDLE CLASS kind of spending, not just middle class. Yes, there's such a thing as a lower middle class. My neighbourhood is pretty much middle class & you can get a decent two bedroom for under a million.
You can't include business fuel expense under personal or home expense. It doesn't work that way.
However, 500k per annum is not middle class like the OP stated.

Nothing sickens me more than acclaimed patriotic Nigerians. "Despite corruption"?

"despite corruption" indeed.

Lagos is a sh!thole like everywhere else.
Corruption in Nigeria is not a government problem. It's a systemic problem. The average Nigerian likes to cut corners. Those in public offices create or maintain inefficiencies to let corruption thrive.
We take kids out of strict schools and put them in miracle centres, we bribe for NYSC posting, we bribe for job consideration. We bribe for everything. Even online we use fake identities on freelance sites, payment platforms.
I've always known this country is basically hopeless when I noticed one school wrote answers on the board for JSSCE.
The country being badly run doesn't mean someone should prefer their tax money goes to an American company instead of their country.
As inefficient as Nigeria has been I can't claim to not enjoy anything from the State.

Is this really up for debate? When you pay tax abroad, don't you see what they use it for? Wo abeg I'm not up for this. Pay ur tax make I pay my own.
Have you seen Americans complaining about not having universal healthcare? Have you heard their lamentations about how their government is heavily indebted but wasting money on military expenditure while they have homeless people and vets? I'm pretty sure a lot of Americans also have reasons to not pay taxes if it was an option.
Personally I've always believed because Nigerians escape taxes a lot we still have that free oyel money attitude & that's why we not only allow politicians and civil servants steal but also pray it gets to our turn.

Pointless debate, I've sat in FIRS meeting in Abuja and I'll tell you for free, they are eating your tax, I was to build something to stop it, and those eating money blocked us. Japa if you can.
No one can eat all the taxes collected in Nigeria. Otherwise, customs & FIRS will be reporting no taxes. Even in the West, Americans complain of their government wasting monies on unnecessary wars & still pay their taxes. While it doesn't justify it, there's almost always some level of wastage.

honestly ,dont think population is our problem ,what nigeria needs is a good leader, more population more manpower, US is prime example ,other than population what do they have?
Lmao. You sound ridiculous. The USA is about 10 times larger than Nigeria with only about twice our population. What makes you think the USA has no natural resources? They just consume way too much because of industrialisation.
Do you want to know what the USA has? A highly skilled population. Their companies own the patents to the most advanced technology on this planet. What do we have? 200 million people with several out of school children, uneducated adult with a non-existent science and technology landscape. The USA can also attract talents from other countries. Nigeria exports the few it has.
The USA produces over 12 million barrels of crude per day. That's at least six time Nigeria's peak production and probably over 10 times our current daily production.

If he was truly guilty of the crime his killer accused him of, then I'm solemnly behind and in full support of Alfa actions. Whoever crossed my family and split any of their blood, I will come for you no matter how long it takes... even if you returned from jail millions years later. I'm incapable of forgiveness when life is involved.

If truly he wasn't guilty, then his family member should traced Alfa and served him justice.

Whoever kill should be killed, jail is an injustice.
I suppose an impartial law court is for decoration according to you and the people that liked your comment?
It's like the blasphemy issue where anyone with a grouse against you could accuse you of blasphemy and you'd even be dead before you defend yourself.
I work from home. If someone believed I'm doing Yahoo Plus and thinks I'm responsible for something I have no idea about and kills me people like you will be conscienceless enough to entertain the idea that my murder is somewhat justifiable.

No tribe started anything first. It's the same toxic politics of tribalism that exists offline that seeped into the internet and because everyone is faceless here people speak without repercussion. Even people who have no direction in their life offline make it a full-time job to sling tribal mud.

France is governed on a french constitution (a christian constitution).

if the king of Saudi Arabia wins an election in France today, he will be sworn in on a french constitution and not Islam.

This is what you will find in all developed nations except Africa where both Islam and Christianity are headbutting themselves
France is a secular state like America, Great Britain and just about every western nation. They were historically Christian but now separate church from state. Religion is a private affair.

The french only made available provisions for other religion and tribes to flourish and cohabitate.

if you win an election as a Muslim/Arab of north African origin, you will be sworn in with a french constitution (a christian construction).

Stop deceiving people here!

What do you mean by a "Christian construction"? Were you expecting them to overhaul their constitution overnight? France is a very liberal Western country and has lower church attendance numbers than Nigeria. If Western countries were so Christian at this point, gay marriage would not be debatable. Do you want a proper state that has a state religion? Well, you have the Vatican. There are no Christian Republics like there are Islamic ones. Most Western countries are evolving into states without religion.
