Hahahaha! This Twitter trend is funny. I remember returning from Church yesterday and a friend in the neighbourhood visited. Fortunately, 'there was light' and I asked how long the light has been around. His response was extremely funny; he said the light came around 1:00pm and he had been scared because the light stayed beyond two hours!

Politics › Re: Wait Till 2019- Okupe Tells North by Sanchez01(op): 12:28pm On Mar 09, 2015 |
Someone please tell Okupe this is not about the North, rather, about the incompetence of the incumbent president and his shady romance with corruption. The sooner they get this, the better. |
Politics › Wait Till 2019- Okupe Tells North by Sanchez01(op): 12:24pm On Mar 09, 2015 |
The Presidency yesterday urged the north to forget the 2015 presidency and wait till 2019 saying that the 2015 general election was about the stability of the country and not the fulfilment of the ambition of one man.
Addressing journalists in Abuja, the Senior Special Assistant the President on Public Affairs, Dr Doyin Okupe, the election was not about Jonathan or Buhari but about the unity of the country.
According to him, rather than insist on producing the president of the country in 2015, the north should wait till 2019 when it would have an “unequivocal” and “indisputable” opportunity to rule Nigeria for eight years.
Citing historical parallel, Dr Okupe said the Yorubas were no longer causing trouble because their son had been allowed to rule Nigeria for eight years, after Moshood Abiola was denied the opportunity to do so in 1993.
“The north, since independence, has been the political stabilising group in this country. The north is far more advanced than any section of this country in terms of politics and political leadership. When MKO died and civilian politics was brought back for us to vote, the north sat down and met and decided that because of the injustice done to the Yoruba people, the Yoruba must present the next president at that time. And they called this nation to accept and buy into a national consensus to patronise Yoruba people. And that had a salutary effect on the political stability of this country. That is the role the north has always played in the politics of Nigeria.
“The consideration and implication of the 2015 general elections for this country go beyond Goodluck Jonathan and Muhammadu Buhari. It is beyond both of them. It is about stability of this country. And both the north and the south have always given concessionary consideration to each other. When we went for independence, the north was not ready, the south waited.
“In 1958, the colonial masters had agreed to give Nigeria independence, but the north said they were not ready. Nnamdi Azikwe, Chief Obafemi Awolowo and other southern leadership conceded. They agreed and said they would wait for their brothers. So, we did not start the concession for peace just now.
“We have always tried to balance the polity and not create problems in this country. Now, Goodluck Jonathan comes from an area that, in perpetuity, has always been the strongest ally of the north.
“Shehu Shagari said that, and that is why, irrespective of what is going on in the north, he knows the history and will never support the north to be against a son of the south because when things were tough, hard and there were no friends and when there were hostilities against the north, the south-south stood by the north. How conceivable would it be that the north had been ruling for so long and when there was a crisis, the north conceded to Yoruba people?
“And now, the goose that lays the golden eggs was not brought up by anybody, but by God; an act of providence. The man is doing well, and you are saying that just because they are in minority, you can chase them out.
“Now that we have allowed Yoruba to rule, Yoruba have kept quiet and they are no longer causing problem. You don’t expect any upheaval from Yoruba land anymore. Why can we not concede this remaining four years? Nobody killed Yar’Adua. For some of us, Yar’Adua was our person, but God knows best. But if this has happened, let us exercise a lot of patience, maturity and understanding. Why do we want to drag this country to a cliff because of the ambition of one man who is supported by some greedy people who don’t even represent their people? “A country cannot be roasted or derailed purely on the ambition of one person. If Jonathan completes his next four years, the north has a chance; an unequivocal chance, an indisputable chance and an opportunity that cannot be denied to present a candidate they want who will rule the country for another eight years.
“Even if Buhari wins this election, which is impossible, cannot do a second term. So, when the second term comes, why would other people not contest against him? He is a northerner and if he cannot run for election again, then, the thing should go back to the south. So, would the north be satisfied with only four years? These are the issues. That is why I am saying this 2015 election is beyond Goodluck Jonathan and Muhammadu Buhari. It is a matter of national stability”.
“The north has always had partnership in the south—in the south west, south-south and south-east—but somehow, the north miscalculated this time around. Because they assumed wrongly that Bola Tinubu was the leader of the Yoruba race, and that if they can strike a deal with him, they have got the south-west. While doing that, they left their former allies that included General Adeyinka Adebayo, Richard Akinjide, Olunloyo and others” he said. - See more at: http://www.vanguardngr.com/2015/03/wait-till-2019-okupe-tells-north/#sthash.D1W7Z7aK.dpuf |

OLADD: Don't bother yourself with mind-soothing epistle. Just quote me after the elections. I am too politically awakened to be swayed with those fables. March 28 and April 11 beckons. It is not a soothing epistle. Refuse to be a local champion and feed yourself with hard facts from average Nigerians on the streets. It's quite disturbing that your stance is certain when the person you want to vote for is jittery. Jonathan has visited the S/W severally during this elections. He understands that the North is lost to GMB already and his only chance of survival is the S/E and the S/W. The S/S is awfully divided against him he's not even banking on his own region, all thanks to Amaechi and Oshiomole. You might not really know this to be true if you stay in a place. Mynd44 mentioned the names of some of the Obas I didn't mention and you still believe it's a fable. GEJ would not have visited the S/W repeatedly if he had not seen the hand writing on the wall. |

Without bias, the APC outperformed the PDP in the debate. It's quite funny that Ay Dee flared up after facts were laid bare to his face. I think the problem was that the PDP did not really have calm and sane youths to represent them. I had made up my mind a long time ago and I would have decided almost immediately to vote the APC at the polls because the representation of the PDP in Ay Dee is synonymous to Doyin Okupe and Femi Fani-Kayode. For those sitting on the fence, kindly see the part 4 to make up your mind. Both sides were given the same limited time (5 minutes) to SELL their party but the PDP guy wasted 4 minutes in insulting GMB and one minute in proving his point. Funny, he did not list infrastructures and the achievements of GEJ. The APC representative tackled the issue head on with facts and figures. If this is what both sides have as the best, then it's obvious the PDP flawed. FFK, Okupe, Ay Dee, Omokri, Patience Jonathan and Dokubo are only good with brief interviews, twitter strengths and campaign attacks. Anything other than this is a sand burial for them. My observation. |

OLADD: By March 28 and April 11, you will know how politically influential Yoruba Obas are. Be that as it may, Buhari wll never win southwest. Mark my words. Funny, why not take a survey around before making your claim Of all Obas, I stayed in Osun state for a number of years and I'll gladly admit that the Ooni of Ife is a PDP fan but that does not apply to the Alaafin of Oyo who has shown his support towards the APC. As interesting as it is, the son of the Alaafin is running under the platform of the APC. Tell me, why then do you think he'll go against the ambition of his son for a stranger who is totally alien to the culture of the Yoruba people
The only state GEJ will comfortable get his confidence is Ekiti and that's largely due to the fact that the tout in Fayose has stirred fear into the hearts of the people of Ekiti. And as touching the Ooni, kindly know that the State of Osun is an APC state. There are facts to back this up. Nuhu Ribadu got the highest vote of the S/W in Osun while other S/W states were only average. Trust me, it is not enough to take to a forum and comfort yourself just because you are inclined. I've seen the odds in the S/W and I don't expect the PDP and GEJ to be surprised at the eventual result of the S/W because it's obvious. Okupe knows this, and so does FFK. |

https://punch.cdn.ng/wp-content/uploads/2012/08/Dr-Doyin-Okupe1-360x225.jpg The Senior Special Assistant to the President on Public Affairs, Dr. Doyin Okupe, on Friday, said as far as the forthcoming general elections were concerned, politicians from the Northern part of the country had miscalculated.
Presidential candidate of the All Progressives Congress, Maj. Gen. Muhammadu Buhari (retd.), a Northerner, is contesting against President Goodluck Jonathan (a Southerner) of the Peoples Democratic Party.
Okupe, who spoke to journalists in Abuja, said Northern politicians got it wrong because they erroneously believed that a national leader of the APC, Asiwaju Bola Tinubu, is the leader of the Yoruba race and that he could deliver the South-West.
He said while doing that, the North left out some of the people that really matter in the zone whom he described as the North’s former allies.
He said, “The North has always had partnership in the South; in the South-West, South-South and South-East.
“But somehow, the North miscalculated this time around because they assumed wrongly that Bola Tinubu was the leader of the Yoruba race, and that if they can strike a deal with him, they have got the South-West.
“While doing that, they left their former allies that included Gen. Adeyinka Adebayo (retd.), Richard Akinjide, Omololu Olunloyo and others.”
Okupe said even if Buhari wins the presidential election, which he said was impossible, the North would still lose out.
He said if Buhari wins, he would not be able to do a second term, therefore, giving room for a southerner to again emerge as the President in 2019.
He wondered if the North would be satisfied with only four years when they could have their full eight years from 2019.
“Even if Buhari wins this election, which is impossible, he cannot do a second term. So, when the second term comes, why would other people not contest against him? He is a Northerner and if he cannot run for election again, then, the thing should go back to the South. So, would the North be satisfied with only four years?
“These are the issues. That is why I am saying this 2015 election is beyond Goodluck Jonathan and Muhammadu Buhari. It is a matter of national stability,” he explained.
Okupe was of the view that if Jonathan completes his second term of four years in 2019, the North has a chance that cannot be denied to present a candidate who will rule the country for another eight years. Source: http://www.punchng.com/politics/elections-north-has-miscalculated-says-okupe/ |

This obviously doesn't make any sense. If GEJ believes he has worked hard enough to earn a return, I see no reason why he should be afraid and hellbent on destroying our democracy just because he is power drunk. Why would a so-called party spring up now when ballot papers have been reportedly printed by INEC? GEJ should accept the outcome of things. He cannot force himself on people who don't want him. |
Politics › PDP Lays Fresh Ambush Against Election by Sanchez01(op): 11:16pm On Mar 07, 2015 |
There are indications that the national leadership of the ruling Peoples Democratic Party might have perfected a fresh strategy aimed at stalling the March 28 presidential election.
Investigations by our correspondent in Abuja on Thursday and Friday showed that the ruling party was actually the brain behind those who registered Young Democratic Party and that it may use this new party to achieve its objective.
The new party had on Thursday asked the Independent National Electoral Commission to postpone the forthcoming general elections.
The party said this a day after the Federal High Court in Abuja ordered the commission to register YDP as a political party.
At a press briefing in Abuja, the party called on INEC to re-schedule the general elections if it could not accommodate it on its ballot paper.
It said that contrary to insinuations, the court did not order INEC to only register the party, but added that the commission was ordered to issue certificate and include YDP in the 2015 elections.
National Publicity Secretary of YDP, Mr. Ugo Nwofor, said there were only two options available to INEC, saying the commission could either reprint its ballot papers and include the party with a view to accommodate the party’s candidates or shift the elections.
Nwafor said, “If INEC does not have the appropriation for logistics for reprinting of its ballot papers then INEC ought to within the constitutional provision further re-schedule the general election so as to accommodate our party.
“In either of the two options, our party is ready, it has been a long journey for YDP; we wish INEC would explore the first option.”
Shortly after the press briefing, one of the brains behind the YDP was seen at the national headquarters of the PDP in Abuja on Thursday evening, where he said he had come to confer with some of its officers.
In a confidential discussion with our correspondent, he said he had come to brief the party on the success of their legal work which made the court to order that the new party be registered.
When our correspondent called him on the telephone on Friday whether they were planning a fresh legal option to compel INEC to comply with the court order, he answered in the affirmative.
According to him, “Recall that I was at the national headquarters of the ruling party in Abuja on Thursday where I met our partners. We are working together to move the nation forward and deepen our renascent democracy.
“We have already fixed the dates for our convention and we would pick our presidential and other candidates for the elections. We expect INEC to give us a chance as stated in the court order.”
However, it was learnt that one of the strategies of the ruling party in connection with the YDP is to head for the court and ask that the presidential election be set aside, by pleading that the party was excluded.
“This is what we would do if President Jonathan loses the elections,” a source at the national headquarters of the party added.
But if the president wins, it was gathered that the party would not show any interest in pursuing any case in the court.
Nwofor, however, said that the party was interested in contesting the election, adding that this was in compliance with Sections 85 and 87 of the electoral Act.
“Because of this, the party has fixed its governorship/House of Assembly and Presidential and National Assembly primaries for March 26 and 27 respectively,” he added.
It was gathered that the party cleverly picked the dates in order to make sure that the election slated for March 28 does not hold or to make it have a legal proof for exclusion.
The party was believed to have known that submission of candidates list for elections expired 60 days to the election.
An INEC official said that the “commission and Nigerians are aware of the provision of the law on this.”
Nwafor, however, said that his party had commenced the sales of nomination forms due to the court judgement. He said, “We have approved sales of nomination forms as follows; Presidential (N15m), governorship (N3m), Senate (N1m), House of Representatives (N500,000) and House of Assembly (200,000).”
He described the Wednesday’s judgement as victory for democracy, rule of law and triumph over impunity.
It was however gathered that the national leadership of the new party was waiting for the commission to reach out to it tomorrow on the judgement.
One of their elders, who spoke with our correspondent, said that “we expect the commission to reach out to us and ask us to send the names of our presidential and other candidates.
“In the alternative, the commission can also reach out to us, discuss with us and we may say that we are not fielding candidates for the Presidential and National Assembly elections, which come up first.
“The result of the discussion will determine what we would do for the governorship and state Houses of Assembly elections, which holds April 11.”
Efforts made to speak with the National Publicity Secretary of the PDP, Mr. Olisa Metuh on the issue failed. He neither picked nor responded to a text message sent to him. Source: http://www.punchng.com/news/pdp-lays-fresh-ambush-against-election/ |
