As I said go and learn your traditions. You don't know more than traditionalists who have said Bini have traditions of their ancestors coming from the sky

It's a prevalent tradition in West Africa.. Igbos have it, Aja have it, Yoruba have it

And I have explained severally that the issue of oduduwa is not that complicated when you realize that there are two entities
I can't be repeating myself every time.

Lmao you are the ones always eager to fight, it is after all the war that you declared. Yorùbá have no problem with you
It is you that have problems with us. But that's your business, that's why you are the ones going on TV, opening websites and making posts on all platforms against Yoruba
Yoruba can't be bothered by any minority who we gave the monarchy and taught the art they are most proud of.
Even the so called "Bini juju" everyone in Pop culture is talking about, na Yoruba give you
There's nothing that brings Bini into the light of discussion that isn't traced back to the Yoruba nation
I can understand why you hate Yoruba guts grin cheesy
I have learnt my origin and for the traditional am still learning it ...Benin tradition is vast one

As for our origin we neither migrated from Egypt or fell from the sky ...we came from the red soil.

Our history, tradition and origin is been passed through our dressing, our choice of colour, our dance, and our artworks. There was a time when Benin was an empire a kingdom and it shall be great again.

I pray for my people to wake up from their slumber on time.dont you think you should be doing talk show on the history of Benin since you are well knowledgeable of its history...Benin history is very large to the extent it can be taught as a subject in schools and universities .

Shut up there. Rather than learning your own traditions and what your elders told people who asked, you are here fighting a "glorious war" against yoruba. You are ever prepared to give it hot to yorubas grin or so you think. When you people are done with your supremacy war you will rest. Nonsense

Screenshot from "Kings, Magic and Medicine" by Chief. Dr. Daryl Peavy
Maybe you know more Edo traditions than a chief priest
ogiso was chosen as a name for those leaders so that the people will see them as leaders that were sent by God from the sky not that they fell from up

I may not be educated as you are but I can vouch that there was never a time that the Benins claimed that they fell from the sky instead it was the yorubas that claimed that oduduwa fell from the sky

The Benins only believe that when God created the world their ancestors chose the land instead of the sea and sky and that's one the reason their colours are red and white.
The red which stand for the mother earth (mud sand)the white which stand for purity and holiness (native chalk)

I am aware that there's a lot of conspiracy theories about Benin and history as a whole that is why I will never comment or argue what am not sure of .

Why is it only in nairaland that you like claiming supremacy over Benin ?why don't you go out there on Facebook or raise an argument in a TV station station if you're really sure of what you're saying

The latest from the Edos:

"Oba" is only an abbreviation in Edo language ?? ?? ?? grin cheesy grin grin grin cheesy cheesy grin cheesy

My people coman hear oo:

They're gradually confessing that the word "Oba" is not found in the Edo lexicon. cc: macof .. gomojam .. googi .. babtoundey.

So, with this recent confession, let me drill further:

Do other Edoid speaking people have cHiLdReN who sHiNe for them?? ?? ?? cheesy grin cheesy grin

See, do not deceive yourself, ask ANY Edo person who is not preview to this Nairaland Edo gymnastics to translate the phrase Oba of Benin into English language.

They will be honest enough to tell you that it means King of Benin.

Everyone (including your people) know that "Oba" is an actual word, not an abbreviation. And that it simply means "King".

The problem for you all, then, remains that this word "OBA" is original to Yoruba, and alien to Edo.

"Ogie" is your original Edo word meaning "King", and since the beginning of the Yoruba connection till date, it is almost never used for any Benin king.

That's precisely why it is not found in your lexicon. Hence your latest gymnastic of "iT iS aN aBbReViAtIoN".
I didn't say oba is an abbreviation in Edo language, oba is an abbreviation of "OMO NOR OBA NE EDO ".

oba has a meaning in edo language and please if you know that you're allergic to other people history or language then you should stick with your king who fell from the sky.

TAO11:

(1) No, the word "Oba" doesn't even exist at all in the Edo lexicon.

The question of it having a different meaning, therefore, doesn't even come up to begin with.

(2) The Edo root-word "Baa" means "Shine"

(3) The derived form "O - Baa" (not even one word, not even a noun) means "it is Shinning".

(4) The derived form "N'Oba" means "that which Shines"

(5) The derived form "Noba" means "Red"

(6) Now, comes the question:

"Where is the word "Oba" to be found in the Edo lexicon, let alone its meaning"?? ?? cheesy
they say see ebo you say see father,

How is oba of Benin addressed?,is it not OMO 'NOBA" N-EDO " when you translate it to English won't it give you the same thing you wrote ? or you didn't see where I wrote that oba is an abbreviation.

You people should tell your histories and leave that of Benin for them

Everyday our brothers and sisters from Bini come up with revised meaning and different interpretations knowing full well they are only fooling themselves.

In the first place the dialect you are trying to interpret is different from the wider Edo dialect. It is a Yoruba dialect, a lingual franca in Bini Palace.

The dialect is spoken not only in Benin today but in Warri within Itsekiri to Ugbo, Idiani, Ondo and more.

Yoruba are the ones that will tell you the deep meaning of what you speak.

Who are you trying to explain OBA and OMO to? Why are you guys so plainly fraudulent?

Please also explain what OKU means.

I am not good in Benin language but I know that almost all name in Edo are or were an abbreviation of sentences or words which were used to describe an event in tme of the old.
Oku means death if am not mistaken and it might also mean some other things like I said am not good in Benin language

Oba might mean king in yoruba language but in Benin it means either light, shine or red .oba is an every day word in Benin .

The fact that we come up with different interpretations to things should tell you how vast and deep Benin is.the Benin language have honomnys and synonyms just like the English language.

Some parts in Ghana call fowl the name the Benins it call it does that mean that the Benins borrowed the word from them?

A place in Japan is Edo does that mean the Edo as a whole came Japan?

Oba is in Yorubaland. Your monarch is Omo Oba....a descendant of Oba!
is omo nor oba not omo oba

Omo nor oba =the child that shines

Omo oba =child of light

Omo =child

Oba=shine,red

Nor=that,what

Obanosa=shines like god(

Ogie nor ki so re(ogiso)=king from the sky
=is also to describe God king

Omo nor oba ne Edo = the child that shines in Edo

Oba is an abbreviation, when introducing the oba of Benin his title or his name must be called in full that's where you hear 'omo nor oba ne Edo 'uku-Apkolokpolo oba Ewuare.

Hope you now understand that the yorubas meaning of oba is different from the Benin

EmekaMD:
Brutai and his men have been fighting Bokoharam for many years without any traceable improvements.

Chad soldiers pushed one major offensive and Bokoharam got dismantled.
Then Brutai immediately relocated to NE.
And today Shekarau wants to surrender, something that wasn't foreseeable until now.

My verdict is..

1. Chadian army has disbanded and weakened Bokoharam, and so Shekarau is at the verge of being captured. And his capture would exposed many grey areas including the sponsors to Bokoharam. So Brutai quickly goes in to do the capturing himself and make sure all that needed to be concealed are not exposed .

2. Another option is they'd have Shekarau turn himself in and be given first class treatment and eventually released as a repentant. We've seen lots of these already.

3. Worst case scenario he'd pretend Shekarau wants to surrender, and orders his soldiers to cease fire for negotiations. This would offer Shekarau more breathing space to recuperate and reorganize again. After all Bokoharam is a business venture Brutai and the elite north would never want to lose.

If you think I'm being pessimistic wait till time proves me wrong

he is not the problem. As a woman I once shouldered a man's responsibilities for the fact that the guy was an asshole doesn't mean I should take the bitterness to my recent relationship. If we truly love someone, automatically their problems become ours so the OP wasn't foolish or stupid for helping the woman he loves.

My advice for the OP is for him to move on ,it might be hard at first but is the best thing to do.just move on don't think about it too much, do things that we make you happy and try to forget about her

TAO11:

Warning!!! The comment below contains academic reference, logic, and common-sense: Brace yourself.

From the same article you attached:

(1) Ryder only said in "records" --- He never said anywhere that there was no connection.

(2) He clarified that there is a well known-connection.
He anticipated cogent objections to his own conclusion that the Ogane's kingdom is "probably" in the Niger-Benue confluence. He wrote:
"Many objections may be raised against such an argument, the most cogent being those which demonstrate the well-known links between Benin and Ife."
Reference:
Ryder, (1965), p.35.

(3) Most importantly, his conclusion that no written record existed follows from the following:

(a) João Afonso d'Aveiros documented in c.1480
about the connection between Benin Kingdom and the Kingdom of the Ogane.

(b) Ryder believed (although probabilistically) that the Kingdom of this Oghene is in the Niger-Benue confluence --- not in Ife.

(c) Hence, he concludes that there was no record of Benin's connection with Ife.

(4) But since it has been demonstrated overwhelmingly by historians (in modern times) that the Ogane of d'Aveiro's c.1480 account, is none other than the Ooni of Ife (see attached); then it becomes clear that Ryders' conclusion of no records of connection is blatantly erroneous.

In conclusion, not only is there evidence of early connection even from the source you've put forward; there is in fact evidence of early record of connection as seen in d'Aveiros' c.1480 account.

Keep trying. Don't give up just yet.

Cheers!
I didn't send you that link to argue who first existed. That description was a written history backed up with a photograph to ascertain the authenticity of his claims.

In Edo artworks are used as an evidence to confirm the truth in the oral history. If the old Benin was to still be intact then you would have gotten your evidence on the claims that Benin is over 2500 years.

Benin original artwork is all over Europe so you can set to really investigate those artworks or better still come to Benin to do your research because in Benin every statue and every area has its own history

If Benin people can identify themselves with something as simple as greetings then why do you think we don't know our origin or the origin of our king?

Don't you think is time you people really know where your oduduwa came from?why don't you divert your attention to that area and leave the Benins alone.
