#NigeriaAt55 | An Open Letter to the President of Nigeria,
Mr. Buhari.
Mr. President,
Please accept my sincere congratulations on the
anniversary of Nigeria’s 55th Independence. I wish you and
members of your family and cabinet a Happy Independent
Day. Also, let me use this medium to congratulate you on
your recent victory and emergence as the President of
Nigeria. I wish you the very best.
Millions of Nigerians share common objective of seeing a
greater Nigeria as we start a new phase in our emerging
democracy especially with the major promises or let me
say, anticipation of greater country with the coming in of a
new administration and political party altogether at the
centre. Naturally, we expect a different approach where
things haven’t worked out well for us as a Nation and a
continuation and even higher velocity in areas where things
are working for us.
Speaking about things that is working for us or not, I will
like to quickly draw your attention to a few areas where I
believe you should now focus your attention and of course,
more resources – Wealth Creation.
When I say wealth creation, I mean empowerment of your
people to create wealth for themselves, which will
ultimately be a bigger source of revenue to Nigeria than the
conventional oil wealth we have known before now. Permit
me to share this idea with you, Sir.
Nigeria must totally move on from dependence on oil
wealth. In the most developed countries of today, oil
wealth isn’t among the top sources of income. At 55 years
old, Nigeria is overdue in taking its own place among the
committee of world’s richest countries. What is the secret?
If you carry out research on why the rich countries are truly
rich and financially independent and stable, they all have
something in common. Their citizens are rich. They have
been empowered to make money and the more money the
citizens make, the more money the government makes in
the form of tax.
Companies like Google, Microsoft, Facebook, GM, to
mention just a few, have more money than many countries
of the world today and it’s actually sad to say this Sir,
including your own country Nigeria. The annual budget of
Google for instance is much bigger in multiple folds than
that of Nigeria. Now imagine the kind of tax money Google
pays to the US Government. Sir, until you turn your
attention to the income from tax, we will continue to
struggle as a nation. Oil money must be supplementary.
Let’s come back home. How can we achieve this in
Nigeria? It is very simple sir. Do you have a record of the
number of Small & Medium Scale businesses in Nigeria? I
am not sure this information is readily available to you sir.
Do you have a record of take for instance the number of
road side mechanics we have in the entire country? Or
maybe in major cities like Lagos, Kano, Ibadan, Port
Harcourt, Abuja, etc.? I am also not sure this information
is readily available to you. I am sure you now get my point
here Sir. If we don’t have this information, it is very much
impossible to know how much wealth we generate from
SMEs.
How can we make this happen?
1. Register them
Firstly Sir, make it very very easy for SMEs to register their
businesses. Please pardon my use of the word ‘very’. I was
only trying to make you see the emphasis. In fact, if it is
logistically possible, let us get Corporate Affairs
Commission (CAC) staff to physically visit SMEs we have
in the country, starting with a pilot state or states, maybe
two or three. Take for instance, Lagos and Abuja. Get them
to register as easy and cheap as possible. In fact, I will say
for free. For the sake of example, let’s focus on Road Side
Mechanics here.
2. Screen Them
How do we screen these people? How many of them did
we register? Let’s assume we registered five thousand
(5,000) mechanics. Questions that easily come to mind
are:
a) How much do they need to operate a standard Garage?
b) How many staff will they need to run the garage?
c) How much space will each require? A plot? Two plots?
d) What kind equipment will they require to operate?
e) Etc.
All of these questions will be answered by trained
personnel or government consultants so at the end of the
day we can actually come around three thousand (3,000)
genuine businesses after much screening.
3. Establish Them
Empower the Bank of Industry or any other financial
institution approved by the government to set them up for
them a proper Car Garage business. Let’s assume each of
the 3,000 requires One Million Naira (N1m) each to start
up. The government has only invested how much now?
3,000 x N1000000 which Three Billion Naira (N3bn). This is
enough to set up three thousand SMEs (Garages) in two of
the busiest and most profitable cities in the country.
4. Control Investment
Appoint collection banks and/or agencies that will work
with, report and consult with each of the mechanics.
These people will act as cashiers and all cash payment for
services will go to them so as to help the Garage owners
from mismanaging funds. Why are we doing this? Each of
the three thousand businesses will sign agreement with
the government that every month, they pay back a fixed tax
amount into the government account for a number of
years, say 10 years after which they will be subjected to
paying standard tax rates because they will grow bigger.
5. How will the government make money?
Mr. President, let’s do a little calculation here. If they pay
back Twenty Thousand Naira (N20,000) monthly for the
next 10 years. That will be N20000 x 120months x 3000
SMEs which will give the government Seven Billion Naira
(N7bn). This is the least the government will make from
3000 local mechanics because after 10 years, 3000
garages will most definitely have multiplied by another 50%
as they will grow bigger than this. And how much did we
invest? N3bn. That is a profit of N4.2bn minimum. We are
only talking of two cities Sir.
There are other SMEs we will empower. We have Salons,
Hotels, Agriculture (Fish, Cattle, Poultry, Piggery), Plastic,
Medium Scale Manufacturing, etc. If we make N4bn in
each of these Sir, we are talking of multiple means of
income for the government from difference sources of
income.
Immediate Tangible Benefits
1. Wealth Creation
2. Multiple Job Creation
3. Higher Standard of Living
4. Economic Growth
5. Peace in the country
What more? Your government will definitely have more
time to focus on the major government business that
major on industrialization in the country and International
Businesses, Image Advancement and Security in the
region.
Mr. President, this is a little bit of my contribution to the
country at 55 years independence. I believe if you take this
blueprint and make sincere efforts to implement them, we
will experience massive growth in the economy which I
believe is one of the biggest issue and plans the
government has.
Once again, Happy Independence to Nigeria.
Respectfully,
Temitope Ajijola |

PMB, sir, you could have announced your ministers 1 day after your inauguration but you took your time, because you want the best for us. Don't mind some Nigerians sir, they don't know what they want. If you had announced your ministers earlier than now and they failed, they would have said you're not different from your predecessors. Proper planning must be ensured if mistakes are to be avoided.
Thank you for giving me a renewed hope in my country.

crazygod: I listed hulk as a marvel character that will decimate the whole of JL. Now let me list another dude. Thor. He is said to have strength that is greater than that of all the other Asgardian Gods. Hulk may have held an entire mountain, but Thor once lifted the Midgard Serpent – said to weigh at least half of what the Earth does – and tossed it into space. It weighed at least half of what the Earth does! Can we even calculate a number that high? While Thor’s power over weather is arguably rivaled by that of Storm he still manages to possess other Godly qualities that she just can’t match. In fact, Mjolnir can absorb any form of energy and redirect it into blasts so powerful they can damage vibranium and adamantium. And that “Godforce” he uses? It’s so powerful it can even kill those stated to be immortal. His connection to Mjolnir only increases Thor’s abilities as it follows his every instruction and the two are virtually inseparable. Thor’s powers make sense in a world full of almighty Gods and Goddesses but on Earth – even among other overpowered characters – he’s just a bit too much. Not only does he have far too many abilities but the power levels are almost infinite. He has strength, longevity, and energy manipulation. And he also has a scary beserk mode that amplifies all his already scary qualities by 100 folds. This dude once battled galactus to a standstill. And u think superman is a match for him? U guys are rating thor based on the wimpy character in the movie. But thor of the comic books is simply unstoppable. I'll still post more on scarlet witch. Absolutely spot on. I was livid with rage when I saw 'The Kursed' beat Thor, in Thor 2, to a pulp if not for Loki who pierced it with a blade from behind. The movie character of Thor is the whimsy version of the comic books Thor. Though I hear we will be seeing the 'real Thor' in Thor: Ragnarock. Hulk is no match for 'Almighty Thor'... |

criminalmindz: friends and colleagues from every part of the nation and some of my best friends are not even from my side of the country.
However, recent events are making me to have a deeper reflection and I wish we- Southerners in this instance- can have some kind of introspection. Out of 25 appointments made so far, 18 are from the North, 3 are from the South West, 4 are from the South South while the South East has ZERO appointments. A tweet which I saw today stated that “southerners are only competent when it’s time for elections but northerners are competent in terms of governance” and this made the following thoughts run through my mind:
1. Only Southerners have been accusing fellow Southerners of corruption. Oshiomole has been attacking Ngozi Okonjo-Iweala as if Ngozi turned down his marriage proposal. The same Oshiomole tried to make nonsense of Akinwumi Adeshina’s successes in the agriculture sector. Ambode tried to pull Fashola down and successfully smeared him with stains. Maybe that’s why Fashola did not get the Chief of Staff role. I’m yet to see a Northerner accuse another Northerner of corruption, even when they belong to different parties. The closest a Northerner got was when the new Kano State Governor attacked Rabiu Kwankaso but he quickly sheathed his sword and even disowned previous reports of attacks. Why are we like this?
2. Are Southerners the only ones who are corrupt? Were there no northerner heading the ministries and parastatals? Did the outgone Comptroller-General of Customs, Abdullahi Dikko not have an alleged case of certificate forgery but he still served out his tenure until he resigned voluntarily? I’m not in support of corruption under any guise but the fight against corruption must not be seen to be sectional.
3. How come it’s easier for the President to believe that Sanni Abacha was not corrupt in spite of recovered loot while it is so easy for him to believe Goodluck Jonathan is irredeemably corrupt?
4. I still remember that aside from God, Tinubu made Tambuwal what he is today. The same Tambuwal would later call Femi Gbajabiamila ‘incompetent’ and rated Dogara as more competent. The same Tambuwal was propped up by Tinubu, a Southerner against a fellow Southerner, Mulikat Akande. Obasanjo was very key to denying Goodluck Jonathan a second term. A good number can still recall how OBJ tore his PDP membership card in public glare. The Northerners find it easy to support themselves but we are always pulling ourselves down. Babangida Aliyu, Sule Lamido and all the other Northern Governors including the former PDP Chairman Adamu Muazu often times refused to campaign for Goodluck Jonathan openly and many times even espoused the virtues of the opposing candidate on the rostrum!
5. Southern leaders and Presidents pull down Southern business men but prop up Northern ones. How many people still remember how Obasanjo ran Mike Adenuga out of town but both Obasanjo and Goodluck Jonathan made Aliko Dangote what he is today. No northern leader goes against their own. I dare to put it on record that President Buhari will never go against Aliko Dangote for any reason.
6. How come OBJ pardoned Salisu Buhari, the ex-Speaker who forged his credentials and he later was given an appointment as a Governing Council member of a University and heavens did not fall- but when Goodluck Jonathan pardoned Alamieyeseigha it became one of the major issues counted against him? Is there one rule for some and another rule for others?
7. We find it easy to raise our voices in support of the deportation of Buruji Kashamu but have no qualms with Atiku Abubakar strutting around the corridors of power.
8. Only Southerners find it so easy to abuse their elders when they voice opinions not in tandem with the popular opinion. We find it easy to diss Afenifere elders and call them ‘Afenifebi’ while hurling expletives and curses at them. We even abuse our kings and priests. Northerners will never abuse an Emir no matter how unpopular what he said is. Can you imagine any Northerner raising his voice against the Sultan? In spite of Tanko Yakassai, Balarabe Musa and Dangiwa Umar’s perceived support for Jonathan, northern youths did not abuse them. But our own youths run down our elders on social media while our educated elite also support the act.
These are some of the thoughts that have been running through my mind. I don’t pretend to have all the answers and I do this at the risk of being labelled an ethnic bigot. The point however is that Southerners have to get their acts right. We have to put our house in order. The bickering must stop. Let’s engage our emotional intelligence. Let’s not allow others to exploit our tendency to self-destruct. This kind of thinking will only drag us back to the stone age. |

Ahmeduana: THE QUESTION IS CAN PDP GO VIOLENT THE WAY OF THE APC? Left for me apc did not win this election on the stren of merit. WHAT I WOULD LOVE PDP TO DO IS TO MAKE SURE THEY WIN ALL THE SOUTH-SOUTH AND SOUTHEAST STATES AND MAKE SURE THEY JEALOUSLY GUARD THOSE STATES, AFTER THAT THEY SHOULD SYSTEMATICALY CREATE THEIR OWN TYPE OR VERSION OF BOKO HARAM, AFTER ALL a child that denies the mother the chance to rest, the child also will not rest. THE PAINFUL THING IS THAT NIGERIANS WILL BE THE ONES TO SURFER IT. You are a big fool for subscribing to killing and blood-letting all because of retaining or acquiring power. When the new Boko-Haram is formed it is your family members that'll be first to be killed. Buffoon. Even if PDP wins all the SS and SE states, if Buhari does considerably well before the next elections, PDP will still lose more states in 2019. PDP must place and use good governance as a campaign strategy. People won't vote for you sentimentally any more. If you like engage 1millions thugs to intimidate people, with the PVC and card readers and the continued reform of INEC, your party will still be voted out. Good governance is the new campaign strategy. Gra-gra has no place in Nigerian politics anymore. |
