Saraki just dey pass bills , you only HV to pass bills that impact the masses positively and not cheery pick. Just one or two might have a bigger effect than passing 10. I also feel he could have even contested to be president and gathered massive support but his past has come back to haunt him. He doesn't need to praise himself, his achievements will be felt by the masses if truly he has had any impact. I will just say he has tried but a lot more was expected from both the senate and executive , they have both failed Nigerians.

Please understand that during GEJ oil price was 100 dollars o,compared to when buhari came in . if you are earning 1millon a month and suddenly get sacked or salary gets reduced won't your standard of living drop.
Please the truth is you can't really compare both because buhari has earned less than GEJ did . Buhari does not determine the oil price , oil companies and some countries also had issues with their economy so was that buhari's fault as well. GEJ had eight years in power and buhari has only had 3years , do u know that your fortune can change in a year due to years of consistent hardwork and perseverance? I know buhari also has his faults like tackling killings and nepotism but in terms of trying to kill corruption and managing to work with the money he has at his disposal I think he is doin OK but can improve no doubt.

She has 4 kids and homeschooled them all. Her oldest is around 16-19yrs I guess. That girl doesn't talk her size. None of her kids do. They have all been attending board meetings with their mum since 6yrs or so.

Also the prospect of getting promoted and earning more and being fulfilled. The only ppl that shld really consider is those earning 200k below and no prospect of getting promoted or earning more.

That is why we must deregulate.

Prices go up, yes, but so does investment, refineries, and eventually prices will crash due to competition.

We can't afford subsides anymore. Unless oil goes up to $150 and above
Bors let the refineries be built first , the government should build refineries , if dangote comes on stream all other unpatriotic oil companies can go and die self. What stopped shell, chevron, oando, total , from building refineries and these guys say dey are into oil and gas. Now wen dangote builds his dey will all be scrambling to build their becos no more importation lol. Dangote for president jor. We must compel DAT man to run by force.

Allowing marketers to sell at any price shouldn't be import dependent. How do u encourage other refineries to spring up. Once ppl realise dangote is making money other refineries will def come on stream. It should be market driven but locally produced. Government refineries should be revamped or a new one should have been built to compete with dangote. I guess dangote will get crude at a subsidize d rate from government and it will in turn be cheaper than having to import. We own this crude , we can use sm for local consumption or do we have to export everything. Crude oil is being found in most part of Nigeria now so if dangote needs more crude it means more ppl will invest in finding more crude oil in Nigeria .I believe dangote can buy a stake in a small upstream company as well if he really wants to be extra patriotic.

Why should the masses always have to swallow pills are they pregnant, why can't all these govt ppl swallow pills by reducing their salaries and allowances. We no go agree o. The last increase what happened the minister said after 6 months price will reduce, is it the masses fault that they didn't do their maths properly.
Politics / Re: Fuel Scarcity: NEC Plans Price Review by Seankay323: 11:49am On Feb 16, 2018
Cromcruach91:

Problem is...govt cannot afford paying subsidies anymore....and the marketers of petroleum..both big and small cannot continue to sell fuel at N145...when it costs N171 to import it.

Infact, most marketers cannot afford to import fuel because NNPC is forcing them to sell at a loss.

And more refineries won't solve the problem.

Honestly...we should have deregulated since the idea was mooted in the early 1990's.
When more refineries are built the sector will be fully deregulated and if marketers want to import and sell lower than the refineries it will benefit all and if the refineries sell lower it will also benefit all . so its a win win when refineries are built. The only draw back might be not deregulating.

Politics / Re: Who Is The Cause Of This Fuel Price Hike In Nigeria This Yuletide? by Seankay323: 5:36pm On Dec 22, 2017
9jakohai:

Basically

1. During the last fuel crisis in 2016, it cost N132 to import one liter of fuel. Govt was subsidizing fuel to N87 per liter. Due to falling revenues from crude oil, Bubu was strongly advised to allow deregulation. Instead, we just had a partial withdrawal of subsidy MANIFESTING as an increase in price from N87 to N145...allowing marketers to make a profit of N13 per liter.

2.Over the last few weeks, due to crude oil going up to $64 per barrel, the cost of refining fuel has gone up as well. So NNPC (According to IPMAN;NNPC is busy hemming and hawing on the issue)..raised landing costs of imported fuel from N132 to N141.

3.This means that most independent marketers have seen a drop in profits from N13 to N3 to N4 per liter of PMS...which means either they increase prices....or they go out of business.Because they cannot afford to buy the fuel NNPC imports...especially as there are additional costs to that landing cost. Hence scarcity.

WHO IS TO BLAME?

1.NNPC...for not fixing our refineries, and investing in new ones.

2.GOVERNMENTS PAST AND PRESENT. for allowing the NNPC to become the mess it is (honestly it should have been privatized since) and for refusing to deregulate the downstream sector...instead they keep the subsidy in place.Which is why IPMAN members cannot set prices...and DPR goes round locking up stations whose crime is trying to survive financially.

3.NIGERIANS..for protesting back in 2012 when GEJ tried to massively decrease subsidy payments...by increasing prices from N65 to N140. Protests forced him to reduce it back to N97..which became unsustainable within a year...and which made it imperative to dip into our forex reserves to maintain the subsidy(and led to scams,20bn, etc)...and crucially...loss of investment that might have sorted out the whole mess.

SOLUTIONS
1.DANGOTE refinery MIGHT take care of the deficit we have in PMS production.(We have a deficit of 28-70million liters of PMS; no one knows the actual value..which means we have to import that deficit). But that comes in 2019..optimistically.

2.DEREGULATION...or govt stops setting prices..which would lead to an increase in prices (N200-300 IMHO, some nairalanders have suggested N400 per liter PMS). Yes..short term hardship...long term, investment, market forces, etc would force fuel prices down. And IPMAN would be able to import fuel, breaking NNPC monopoly.

3.NNPC needs to be privatized. As do the refineries. Govt business in Nigeria is badly run business.

4.We could build more refineries...which is where those modular refineries come in...and which nothing has been heard of.

Fin.
I agree with most points but that one of increase price kolework o.. All the senators and govtmnent officials should donate half yr salary to build new refinery becos if its increased only dey can afford it.
Politics / Re: Worsening Fuel Scarcity In Nigeria, Buhari Should Resign As Petroleum Minister by Seankay323: 8:16pm On Dec 21, 2017
9jakohai:
Oil subsidy must go...

1. There were serious scarcities during GEJ'S time in office...and we did not chase him out then. grin
2.Reasons why we have fuel queues are simple

First, we import PMS now at 142 . Before it was at 132 naira. And we are still forcing IPMAN to sell at N145. If i was an IPMAN member, i would have hoarded too.
Second, oil prices are too low for Nigeria to adequately subsidize fuel AND increase the value of the naira. As a result, naira value is falling, meaning we need more naira to buy fuel, and more naira to get dollars to import.
Nigeria needs oil at $120 per barrel to balance the books. Right now it is at $64. (That is why we borrow to finance the budget, but that's another story).

Bubu could end fuel queues IF he removed the 'imaginary' subsidy, and allowed fuel marketers to set their prices.

YES...fuel will sell at 200-300 naira per liter.
YES...govt should have built new refineries, and gotten those modular refineries running.

BUT as investment flows in...since under deregulation, people would be allowed to make heavy profit...prices will fall, since those marketers who sell at lower prices than their competitors would make more money.

If BUBU wants to be a leader, not a politician, he should take the HARD decision and allow for deregulation.
lai lai o dey must not increase it o u want to kill people ni, we should shut down this country if they increase it o without building refineries , u can talk about deregulation after dangote or government or some1 builds refinery. At least this year we have had this scarcity once so , wen the festive period is over things will normalize Na Naija Na but to deregulate now no o.

good contributions oga, I have lil issue with my landlord o, I have been diligently paying rent for the past 2 years. As at January this year our electricity was disconnected from the main source (another estate due to reasons beyond me and can't be resolved) I paid rent a week b4 the light was disconnected and since then nothing has been done till date , I have paid rent and landlord is still being laid back about sorting the light issue. God knows how much i have spent on fuel this year. Please wot do u suggest, is there a way I can be compensated or just wait till January move out and allow landlord to get away with this( 700k rent) .

yes o I would say its a close though but it was part of an estate but demarcated his houses for reason I don't know and got a transformer that then blew and to get anotha one now Na wahala.Naija sha so u pay rent and landlord can decide to not provide a means of having electricity and nothing can be done, free money be dat na, no compensation?

The landlord has 3 houses on the same street and had a transformer that blew , so has put everyone in perpetual darkness. Is it the tenant that will go and procure transformer for the landlord ? Or look to get one from the government ,is my name written on the c of o as a co landlord of the property? If there's no electricity will people move into the house. I know my mistake was to pay rent early. Does it take a whole year to get transformer? Stupid landlord if he did the maths 5 peoples rent is enuf to buy transformer. I know dis becos a company I work with had same issue and a new one was bought o not given to for free after 1 month. So we HV to wait a whole year for government to get 1 transformer now chai...

Politics / Re: Fuel Scarcity: Have We Been Truly Scammed By The APC? By Audu Bulama Bukarti by Seankay323: 4:15pm On Dec 12, 2017
9jakohai:
There is no scam.

Just Nigerians refusal to face reality.

The truth is, most Nigerians don't want to pay high for fuel. They want govt to subsidize fuel...

Which is what PMB is doing. All this 145 naira is partial removal of subsidy. It is the same thing GEJ, and OBJ and Co have done.

Meanwhile, cost of importing fuel is 142 per liter. We import 50million liters of PMS daily, and produce less than 18 million PMS daily at home.

Oil price has fallen, from 120 in 2013 to 64 today, and somehow Nigerians expect govt to find money to knock down fuel to 97naira per liter.

Even when oil was high, we wasted billions subsidize fuel, that we could have used to do things like increase refining capacity at home. (See why GEJ could not build refineries).

Nigerians should stop deceiving themselves and embrace deregulation. Yes, fuel will cost 200 per liter initially. Yes, poor people will suffer. But investors will come, and eventually, due to competition, prices will fall.

Time we stopped deceiving ourselves. Oil subsidy must go. So that we can have money for better things.
They have to build refineries first or privatise the existing ones. Why should ppl HV to die first in Nigeria to enjoy the dividends of democracy. Why should ppl HV to pay 200 per liter initially. All these oil companies should be compelled to build refineries , for Christ sake dangote is doing it , do u know how much these ppl u elected get paid to do things that secondary school students can do , if u channel some of the money to build a refinery won't that alleviate the suffering of the masses. The government promised that competition will bring down the price after 6 months but its almost 1yr and nothing ,it should apparently be selling for more , so we are still paying subsidy. They should refine crude oil here , if they budget some money and start building and another govt then must finish the project. If buhari didn't increase the price of petrol there would HV still been persistent scarcity so don't think dey HV done any magic. The fact that buhari hasnt done 1 major thing right is wot pisses me off.

Also opposed by most Nigerians...because they did not see the long term benefits. All they saw was N65 becomes N140.

Even Buhari was a fan of subsidy, until Kalichukwu and Emefiele showed him how it was harming our economy...then he agreed for the 'partial' removal.

Problem with governance...sometimes bad decisions are made because people 'don't like suffering'. Jonathan did not campaign with deregulation on the agenda in 2011 or 2015...neither did Buhari....and none of our politicians ever will.

Just let one politician say he is going to deregulate the downstream sector. He will be accused of making Nigerians suffer, and lose the only benefit they get from government. Many people are angry with Buhari for raising fuel prices. Imagine the anger if we went full deregulation. Thankfully, that thinking did not happen with our GSM sector...or else ...
They don't HV to deregulate now what buhari should have done was to do what Jonathan didn't by building or privatising those refineries for Christ sake ,so now we are all waiting for dangote , if buhari had put some money down from the day they raised prices at least a refinery would have been built by 2018 or 2019 and then u can then say to ppl that we have built a refinery that should cater for half our needs or all then u can then fully deregulate by that time there will be so much petrol that price will def fall in the preceding months.
