Bodmillz: Bros you dey vex o! Please calm down and let everything pass.
Nigeria hard but please don’t call our fatherland shithole. I have spent barely two weeks and some days in Canada and I must tell you I’m missing home. Life’s good here and thousands times better than in Nigeria but no place can be like where you grew up.
The culture here is totally different from ours. You would be living in the same Condo and you won’t even greet one another when your path crosses. For example, in the walkway or when you in the elevator, you will either be looking each other like dondee or be pressing phone. Sometimes you greet them and they will be looking at you like mumu, and sometimes they respond with all smile. Even in 3 or more bedroom houses, you see only few that mix well. Most times it’s hi hi when you meet and when you in the house, you lock yourself in the room doing your thing.
The food too. You go chop rice tire. The best thing is to cook here. Not like naija wey you fit just enter one restaurant or buka and load fufu or Eba and spend less than 1k. Go to African restaurant here a the least plate you can get is for $15 (#4,350) and you won’t even be satisfied. And for your info, you pay tax for everything. SIM card wey dem dey sell 100 naira for naija, I bought for $40 (#11,600) here , which was the best deal and I was charged $6 (#1740) extra as tax. Even tax dey ontop bread. I buy wheat bread for $3.29 (#954) which is #250 in naija(more than x3). So the thing here is you have to change your lifestyle if you really wanna have savings. Wheat bread wey I dey finish once in naija, I dey chop am 3 times here . Beans of about 3 congos is $22 imagine! One thing, If you keep converting to naira, you won’t buy anything here lol. Got a jean jacket $70 wey I go see confirm akube for 1500 in naija.
Also, I learnt the weather during winter is mad. Even those that were born and bred here are afraid winter is coming! I remember during my orientation a lady at the information fair was asking me if I would like to study abroad. I told her I am already studying abroad because I am an International student. She laughed and said I can still study abroad, perhaps after I spend a winter here, I would like to study abroad...imagine! Lol
Congrats on your approval and I wish you the best in Canada! This is the comment of the year. I really love the write-up. You deserve 1000 gbosa for this |

Ysakaws: I want to apply to three universities in Canada for my masters. They are all requesting for academic references. However, I do not really have any lecturer I talk to. I got my BSc in Ghana and I am back to Nigeria. I am planning to create three email addresses to represent three different lecturers and to send different recommendations myself. Please, do you advise I do this? The administrator of this forum should not condone this kind of fraud here. Nairaland post discussion is accessible to the public including the spies working for embassies as well. This kind of post does not portray this forum and Nigerians a good image at all. INFACT, THIS PERSON OUGHT TO HAVE BEEN BANNED. |

Trapping: People please is there any penalty from the VO for typographical errors in someone's SOP. I submitted my SOP but somehow I had cause to go back to it only to find that one of the dates I refrenced in the letter stated 2108 instead of 2018. Also, I noticed same mistake in the sponosr's letter of support, he wrote "inthis" instead of "in this", please is there a way for me to correct these mistakes. It won't affect you. Doyenrey: Morning everyone,
If you have a visitor's visa with a validity that covers the entire period of your proposed study before you apply for study permit, what will happen? Will CIC issue another TRV for study? Or just study permit without TRV?
I hope my question is clear. Thank you. They will issue you another visa ( student visa) |

jnyuwa02: Sure can travel in May and traveling before visa expires will ensure you don’t fall into so many potential pitfalls. But be prepared with good answer on why you arriving very early. 4 months too is reasonable, but I think this should be the cap. Good point |

jnyuwa02: You won’t encounter any trouble as long as you go within a reasonable time to your resumption date. So anytime after June 2019, you can travel and if POE proffers a reason for coming early, tell them you came to get acclimated to your new environment before school starts. The problem with coming way to early is that they will think you came to work before school starts and can deny you entry. A visa is not a guarantee that you will enter Canada, the real permission is with the officer’s discretion at POE. So better to be safe than be sorry! What about a scenario where at the time the applicant is applying for visa, the Nigerian passport expires in May 2019 and the Nigerian Immigration insists on not renewing it until less than six month expiration but the visa is issued to end in May 2019 when the passport expires. Can he/she travel in that May before the visa expires? |

mightyola: Amen..Mine Eligibility has not even started..well it started, but went back to processing. June 3rd. It shall end with praise. From what I have gathered, when an application get to the Canadian High Commission, it goes straight to background check which is in two ways. One is done by CSIS for security and criminal check while the second one is conducted by the quality control unit for document check and verification. Once your application get to the VO for a review, your application changes to "we are reviewing whether you meet the eligibility requirements". IF ALONG THE LINE THE VO HAS CONCERN WITH CERTAIN DOCUMENTS YOU INCLUDED IN YOUR APPLICATION, HE WILL RETURN YOUR DOSSIER BACK TO THE CONTROL UNIT FOR FURTHER VERIFICATION. That might be the reason your eligibility started and went back to processing. |

Na to go put head for Lithuania na If the school did not mandate you to pay tuition fee, don't pay. Don't be deceived with the refundable gimmick you see. You will not get your full money when they refund the money. Apart from the administrative charge the school will deduct, exchange rate differences will also make you to lose substantial amount. I have seen somebody who lost close to N200,000 on about $15,000 he paid for tuition fee after the refund |

Carlz1: My last gcms note Applying for the GCMs notes to know the actual reason for visa denial is the first impression you are giving that you are serious with your mission. Responding to the visa officer concerns is to argue point by point those concerns in the GCMS notes but many of you only address the generic reasons included in the notes. |

I'm curious to know if there has ever been an incidence where an applicant misses his/her resumption because CIC exceeded the visa processing time and issued the TRV much after resumption time because @ this current pace from the VO's, a lot of June applicants may miss their resumption date for the fall academic session. There's less than 2weeks left yet some applications are counting out ten weeks as against the standard nine weeks for June applicants. They will request for the updated offer letter. If you defer your entry to winter, they will issue the visa to you but not in a hurry. Maybe around October |

solu1: Good day my people:
I have a quick question to ask.
I recently got my TRV application approved and would be travelling from the EU with a valid residence permit to Canada. Most of the flights that I have seen have brief layovers (4 hours max in the UK). I would like to know if I will be needing a transit visa to go through the UK. The airline could not provide me with this information. Your urgent answers are needed so as to enable me make an informed decision before the prices go up again. (1) AIRSIDE TRANSIT: This is for those who will be arriving UK airport by air and depart by air and wil not go through they immigration . Nigerians with USA, Canadian, Australian and New Zealand visas do not need a UK transit visa to transit but must have a confirmed onward ticket to their destinations and must depart the UK airport by 23:59hrs of the following day, latest. 2.LANDSIDE: This is for those who will be be arriving UK airport by air and depart by air and wil go through they immigration to change airport. E.g arriving the London Hearthrow from Lagos to London and will depart London through the London Gatwick or City Airport. Nigerians with USA, Canadian, Australian and New Zealand visas do not need a UK transit visa to transit but must have a confirmed onward ticket to their destinations and must depart the UK airport by 2359hrs the next day, latest. In summary, if you want to see a friend or family in London before you go to Canada. Do LANDSIDE and make your time of connection to the next day in London Gatwick before 2359hrs of that next day. But be warned, don't make a costly mistake of telling the UK immigration that you want to visit somebody o, you will be deported back to Lagos. Just tell them you are doing a LANDSIDE transit and make your ticket handy and show it to them. When you pass the immigration, you can go to anywhere you like before your next flight to Canada |
