BusinessRe: Transnational Corporation of Nigeria Plc (Transcorp) by Seun(mod): 11:09am On Nov 03, 2005
One of my favorite sayings come to mind: "the only thing worse than a government monopoly (like NITEL) is a private sector monopoly (aim of Transcorp?)" When we put all the power into the hands of a few people, be it government or private sector, there will be exploitation".

Why is the government throwing so much support behind a private firm? Why is it Transcorp, and not Nairaland or Layi, Inc., that is being launched by the President? Is what they are doing fair to the thousands of small and medium scale investors and entrepreneurs in this country?
FamilyRe: Best Way to Punish Kids? by Seun(mod): 11:00am On Nov 03, 2005
Jenny247: I agree with discipline, and I agree with being firm. But I do not believe that verbal abuse (yelling) and physical abuse (flogging, spanking) are sensible ways to apply discipline or express the (occasional) disapproval. The problem I have with [your opinion on this issue] is that you do not seem to recognize the difference between physical/verbal abuse and discipline/being firm/applying correction.

You can discipline, be firm, and apply correction without yelling, flogging, beating, hitting, screaming or other such primitive methods of child rearing that have been passed on from our parents who simply didn't know better. Physical or verbal abuse does not damage every child, but how do you know that your child is not the sensitive type whose life will be colored by the negative effects of your yelling and flogging?

I wonder if the new look that we're proposing matters in the face of alleged corruption in the police force.

BusinessRe: New 1000 Naira Note by Seun(mod): 1:04am On Nov 03, 2005
gbengaijot: You're right about the missing Naira sign on the note; I don't know what they were thinking.

This note seems to be a bit of a rush job - remember they were planning a polymer note, but decided to use a paper note instead so they can go ahead and launch it this year?

It's different from all other naira notes I've handled. Maybe a different team of designers?

RomanceRe: Your Parents Oppose Your Engagement ... by Seun(mod): 12:36am On Nov 03, 2005
Once your child is over 18, you can give advice but you are no longer to impose your opinions on her.  If you give your sincere opinion to your adult child and it's not accepted, why not forget it and try to enjoy the time you have left to live?

So I don't see why my parents should object to my carefully chosen fiancee: I'm the one who is going to have to share a life with the young woman, right?  The only problem I might have is if my future wife is afraid of the marriage because of my parent's opposition.

If a woman sees that you really love her and are determined to have her, but refrains from saying "I do" because of the opposition of her parents or your parents, then maybe she's not yet woman enough to be a wife?  Maybe a man who does the same is not yet man enough to be a husband?
RomanceRe: If Your Lover Kicks the Bucket in Your House? by Seun(mod): 11:26pm On Nov 02, 2005
Why die with her when you know that if she had not died there's a strong probability that you two would have broken up eventually?

We have ladies here who have lost their husbands but survived, so if you lose a loved one who is not your husband or wife, life continues more easily. This seems to be easier for the men; even the widowed ones seem to get re-married so quickly!

The main problem in this scenario would be that the lover kicked the bucket in your arms. How do you convince her relatives and the police that you did not "poison" him/her, or that a former lover of yours did not put "mugun" on you?
FamilyRe: If Your Newlywed Husband is Impotent by Seun(mod): 11:17pm On Nov 02, 2005
So what if he can't get his soldier to stand at attention?  His hands are still there! Who says the hands alone can't work wonders?

And as for the aspect of having children, if you are rich artificial insemination is an option, and there's the society-friendly option of child adoption

The key to beating life's circumstances such as this one is to know your options and take them!
PhonesRe: NITEL Up For Sale Soon by Seun(mod): 11:10pm On Nov 02, 2005
The only thing worse than a government monopoly is a private sector monopoly, and the government should be careful not to sell NITEL into the hands of South Africans. Remember that NITEL has complete control of SAT-3 fiber optic cable Internet connectivity port in Nigeria?

Would you like that complete control to be in the hands of any private company, not to talk of a company like MTN Nigeria that has been accused of exploitative pricing? I don't think so!
FamilyRe: Have You Once Been Rejected by Your Father? by Seun(mod): 11:06pm On Nov 02, 2005
How do you know it was the woman he was living with that poisoned him? Would she be stupid enough to poison him while she was the only one living in the house with him? Are you sure that an innocent person has not been accussed in this case?
TV/MoviesRe: Best Nigerian Comedies? by Seun(mod): 11:00pm On Nov 02, 2005
Hmm ... even after several months, 'Fuji House of Commotion' remains the one and only worthy Nigerian comedy. or is there any new contender for the crown?
Music/RadioRe: Your Kind of Music by Seun(mod): 10:58pm On Nov 02, 2005
I also love Rap Music, but only at the level of Tupac (unfortunately, I was not a rap music fan when he was reigning) and Eminem. I listened to Tupac recently and I thought to myself, this guy was even better than Eminem; I really wish he was still alive, because he was so good cry!
TV/MoviesRe: 'Who Wants to Be a Millionaire' in Nigeria by Seun(mod): 10:53pm On Nov 02, 2005
I don't get to watch it because they show it at around 8:30pm on Friday, which is when they show my favorite Dharma and Greg. Is there anyone who is still following the programme, and would like to keep us informed on what's happening in Who Wants to be a Millionaire Nigeria?

Let's go ahead and answer the question in this thread's topic: what are the problems commonly faced by members of polygamous families? (We need those with real experience to answer this question, not just those who have watched Fuji House of Commotion!)
ComputersRe: Convert MS Word, MS Powerpoint etc to PDF by Seun(mod): 10:38pm On Nov 02, 2005
Why convert MS office documents to PDF? Because PDF is a presentation format! You type with Word and you publish in PDF format for people to read and download.

Men who have found love in their wives need to be careful about how they drive and who drives them to save their happy families from this kind of bad ending. What a story, bagoma. I'm so sorry about the bad ending; I was so happy when I read about how you changed your mind about leaving him. cry
FamilyRe: Should Homosexuals Be Allowed to Raise Children? by Seun(mod): 7:02pm On Nov 02, 2005
The idea that a homosexual couple will raise and have sex with a homosexual son is ridiculous. This is like saying that a heterosexual man shouldn't be allowed to raise a daughter or else he might have sex with her. Or that a heterosexual woman shouldn't be allowed to raise a son.
