2Face doesn't have such a lovely voice if you listen closely. It's just that his popular songs are really melodious and his voice is good enough to render them well.
Christianity EtcRe: Catholic Church No Longer Swears By Truth of the Bible by Seun(mod): 9:33am On Oct 08, 2005
Is the book The GIft of Scripture in which these views were proposed actually sanctioned by the Pope? Because, you know, in a large church like the Catholic church it is possible for some top-ranking leaders to have opinions that differ from that of the main man.

Can anyone here shed light on the Catholic publication, "The Gift of Scripture"?
HealthRe: Abortion: A Right Or a Crime? by Seun(mod): 2:53am On Oct 08, 2005
At what exact point does the first cell that forms from the fusion of sperm and egg become a person?
- 1 week?
- 2 weeks?
- 1 month?
- 2 months?
- 3 months?
- 4 months?
- 5 months?
- 6 months?
- 7 months?
- 8 months?
- 9 months?
- Point of birth?

If you say '3 months' does it mean that abortion of a 2 month 29 day old pregancy is wrong while abortion of a 3 month 1 day old pregnancy is ok? Or are you saying that it's all relative?

If your view is that it's all relative, then shouldn't the law give freedom to each mother to commit abortion based on her own view of when the baby she's carrying becomes a person?

Since we cannot determine the exact point at which the 'thing' becomes a 'person' then a pregnant woman should have the right to take the stand that until her baby is born it remains a 'thing' and she can abort 'it'.

PoliticsDoes the U.S. Use 'Globalization' to Cheat Poor Countries Like Nigeria? by Seun(mod): 11:29pm On Oct 07, 2005
Sokari Ekine has written about an interview titled 'Confessions of an Economic Hit Man: How the U.S. Uses Globalization to Cheat Poor Countries Out of Trillions' (Interview Transcript | Audio (MP3) | Video (128K) | Video (256K)).

In the interview, a man named John Perkins confesses that, as an "Economic Hitman", he used to go around convincing poor countries (like Nigeria) to accept large development loans which they'll never be able to repay, and make sure that the development projects were contracted to US companies. And once the debts mounted to a level where they could no longer be repayed the US would then use their influence as creditors to influence the policies of those countries to favor the US, such that the US would indirectly control their natural resources (such as Nigeria's oil).

He says he would never have confessed but for the events of September 11, which he indirectly attributed to the frustration of the masses in developing nations in the middle east who are angry about how they have become so dependent on the West.

What's your take on this issue? Why do our leaders keep falling over themselves to accept loans from organizations such as the IMF? Are the development plans proposed by organizations such as the World Bank (were our finance minister used to work) meant to help us or to enslave us to the developed nations or the US in particular?

Read the interview and make up your mind!

I guess I'm gonna have to be with the Lagos people because of my proximity to the area, and I think this is a lovely idea. The enthusiasm that people have shown each time it's raised is a sign that this is something in demand.
HealthRe: Abortion: A Right Or a Crime? by Seun(mod): 10:05pm On Oct 07, 2005
Here are the summaries two opposing arguments from the debate in nferyn's link:

Pro-life: intentionally killing an innocent person is morally wrong because it unjustly denies them their intrinsic rights to life, liberty and the pursuit of happiness. Both biology and genetics prove that a unique human individual begins at conception, therefore, by definition, rights and value that are intrinsic to humanity must also take effect at conception. Abortion intentionally and unjustly denies these intrinsic rights, therefore it is morally wrong to abort an innocent human being in the womb.
Pro-choice: Abortion is the destruction of a group of cells which merely have the potential of becoming a person. But an embryo or early stage fetus is not an actual person yet. Therefore abortion is not morally wrong.

At the heart of this debate is whether an early stage fetus is a person or not. If you say it's not a person, then at what exact point does it become a person?
Forum GamesRe: Who Are You Missing Today? by Seun(mod): 9:42pm On Oct 07, 2005
I don't think it would hurt to post the list, but I guess what you're trying to say is that you miss everybody, not just those you can remember. But that would mean you admit that you don't miss everybody equaly, which is the point of the post. And I think it's ok to admit that.

Off the top of my head, I miss Kenya, Imnakoya, and Jiten. When I return I'll post more names, it depends on the what's going on in the forum at the moment.

The relative denomination of the currency is not important (it is very easy for our government to come up with a new currency called 'NairaPlus' which is equal to 1000 Naira). What is important is the day-to-day stability of the currency, and I think we have that now.

What do you think I should do about the nddy/terry menace? I have banned him so many times that I'm tired of doing so, yet he doesn't stop fighting and the rest of you keep fighting him instead of reporting him according to the rules!

Knowing about the overpopulation of the world and the painful life of an unwanted child, wouldn't it be better for a child that is not wanted not to be born?

On the other hand, no matter how bad life is, every individual, young or old, will always choose life over death because "where there's life their's hope". So if it were possible to ask an unwanted baby "would you like to be born?" the answer will probably always be yes!

FamilyRe: Husband at Home While the Wife Works? by Seun(mod): 10:05pm On Oct 06, 2005
As a house-husband, you won't have time to play golf or travel. You'll spend all the time dealing with the children and caring for your wife when she's at home. That's what housewives have to do. When last did you see a full-time housewife on a golf course? How many hours does a full-time housewife have for TV is a day?

I am sure that only one of the votes was recorded. The only way to ensure that 2Face will win is to get more people from different countries, using different computers, to vote for him. I have done my part by inviting 3,763 Nairaland Forumites. Perhaps you can send this page to your friends to convince them to vote.

Nairaland GeneralRe: What One Thing Would You Change About Nigeria? by Seun(mod): 4:34pm On Oct 06, 2005
I agree with you. It would be really nice if the rest of the world could see that there's more to Nigeria than corruption. it would be nice if the 419 stigma could stop being a problem for Nigerian businessmen who want to use the internet to run legitimate businesses. It would be even better if the problem of corruption in our government and police force could be radically reduced.

However, the one thing I'd like to change about Nigeria is the NEPA problem (sorry, PHCN). If I could change one thing about Nigeria, it would be to make constant, cheap, public electricity available to every Nigerian!

PoliticsRe: Ojuelegba War: Nigerian Soldier vs. Nigerian Police by Seun(mod): 1:48pm On Oct 06, 2005

No fewer than three persons were killed and over 50 cars destroyed Tuesday, as soldiers sacked a police headquarters and barracks in Lagos, rendering hundreds of people homeless. The police armoury was also looted.

The early morning bloody attack left several policemen including the Lagos State Police spokesman, Mr Olubode Ojajuni battling for life. About 40 suspects in police cell were reportedly set free and the Area Commander’s jeep burnt before the rampaging soldiers began to set buildings on fire.

InvestmentRe: I Want to Buy Microsoft Shares by Seun(mod): 1:44pm On Oct 06, 2005
Actually, I think you're better of buying shares in a public company in the same country. The various fees you'll have to pay in order to buy and sell shares in a company in another country might eat up any profits you were hoping to make.
